Cast of Characters: Nightingale, Detective Chimp

Nightingale has posed:
Sometimes, the simplest advice was the toughest to follow, even when it was the most sensible of all. For some days now, Shannon had been nudged by those closest to her to get out and about, and get her mind off of matters of the past few weeks. After realizing she was welcome at Harry's--so long as she stayed away from the booze, as was proper--she fired up her Vespa, and made the trip down for a change of pace and scenery.

The afternoon found her at the pool table, playing solo for now. She's in some dark blue jeans, a wine-colored turtleneck shirt, and soft black boots. Her hair is partially tied back, with some gathered into a small ponytail, while the rest was left to hang long and loose down her back, save for the pale blue braid on the left side of her face. As always, she has her little brown leather bag with her, which taps against the side of the pool table as she leans in to line up a shot. The air is alive with the pulsing, classic beat of an old 1980's rock song, which has even her swaying to the beat and humming along. "Sweet dreams are made of this..."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp comes walking into the place, he has been here before and knows they will let him drink here. He nods to Harry and orders a beer as he looks around to see if anyone is about. He raises a brow a bit at the girl in the back as she looks familiar.

Nightingale has posed:
A chimp walking into a bar, and it wasn't a punchline? That was always something. Shannon takes her shot, and smiles a little bit to herself. "Not bad." Reaching for a glass that was set near the pool table, she's just taking a sip when she glances over at just the right moment. One eyebrow lofts, then the other, and she slowly lowers the glass. "Now there's a face I haven't seen for a long time," she finally calls out. "How's it going?"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks over and says "Well that is you, I had wondered if you were you or perhaps your sister," He admits as he walks over to the pool table sipping his beer and nods. "Seems you have had a bit of a change going on. You doing ok?"

Nightingale has posed:
"Almost had a sister. Siblings never made it too far past birth. So... yeah, I'm an only child." Shannon raises her glass of root beer to the Detective, and smiles somewhat.

"Yeah, you could say that. I was caught up in that mess in Bushwick a few weeks ago. It's a helluva an adjustment, and I don't like it. But if I let myself freak out, then the folks who can help will be too busy worrying, so... what can ya do except KBO?"

Too, there's a small plate of nachos and cheese nearby, which she takes a few moments to nibble on, allowing herself a smile as she enjoys the treat. "But what about you? It's been ages, how have you been?"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods a bit, lots of work trying to track down some leads on a couple cases. Stopped by the music store to get an older Album, and thought I would stop in get something to drink." He offers her a smile "So you doing ok?"

Nightingale has posed:
"Honestly? I'm going out of my mind. It's frustrating as hell, but... KBO." Shannon nudges her plate of nachos a little closer in what was intended as an invitation to join her at the pool table. "Which album were you after? I think I remember you saying something about enjoying the blues, last time I saw you."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods and names some some old blues and Jazz artists. He walks over to look at the cues, and picks one up. The place here in town has connection to get some classic stuff I enjoy." He will walk around studying the table. "Come here often?"

Nightingale has posed:
"Wasn't too sure for a while if they'd let youth in here. Turns out I was wrong all that time." Shannon cracks a bit of a smile and nods. "Yeah, the music store here in town can get a hold of some pretty obscure stuff. Ran into Cap that way. He was looking for a couple of things in Gaelic, turned into me transcribing the songs for him." Her lips tug upwards in a smile as she motions towards the table, ceding the turn to the Detective. "Think there's still a dent in the sidewalk there where my jaw hit the ground that day."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp smirks a bit and says "Have ran into him a few times, but no big interactions with him to be honest." You speak Gaelic?" He will speak in it "Interesting still a few who speak it but more often expect them to be red heads." He jokes.

Nightingale has posed:
"Ha, only a few words, just enough to recognize the most... conversational bits of the language." Shannon smirks a little, chortling to herself. "Those always seem to be the first parts you learn. Transcribing those songs was an interesting exercise. Dunno, might try my hand at the language one day, but I've got my hands full with a little German and Russian at the moment."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods, and says "Both can be interesting languages, but then I sometimes wonder if I miss some of the feelings of the language as no matter what ya speak, I can understand you.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon snickers softly, then starts outright giggling. "Oh yeah. Especially interesting when you mix up 'Bunsen burner' with the F-bomb in German. Amazing, the difference a single letter can make."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods, and says "Well look at some speeches JFK's minor misstep calling himself a doughnut is still talked about the day, all these years afterwards." He will take a shot if it his turn, hands on the side of the table, shooting with his feet.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon snickers softly, shaking her head. "I don't feel so bad now. Looks like I'm in pretty illustrious company." Her eyebrows loft as she watches the Detective take the shot, whistling low. "Nicely done. You want stripes or solids?"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmms and says "I will take stripes." He will look at her "Fair warning, I pretty much lived inside a bar for 20 years. Figure don't want to hustle where one of my friend calls his normal pub.

Nightingale has posed:
"Fine by me, I'm just playing for the fun of it." Shannon chuckles softly and steps back, reaching for the nachos. "Your turn. So... which friend do you mean?"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will take a couple shots seeming to know how to play well. "Don't know if you would know him short fellow, hairy and a bit of a grouch a lot of the time." He offers her a description but does not give a name, for one, not to rat out his friend and two who knows what name he is using here.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon just gets the biggest grin on her face, crossing her arms. "Sounds a lot like someone I know. Grouchy sum'beach, Canuck, likes Molson?" The shots Chimp is taking have her whistling low as she watches, chuckling. "Good thing we're not playing for stakes, or you'd be fleecing me."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods, and says "Could be the same fellow, he does have a bit of a thing for helping kids in need, even if he might not admit it.

Nightingale has posed:
"Sounds like we may have a mutual friend," Shannon replies, smiling somewhat. "Wouldn't want him pissed at ya, but once he takes ya under his wing, he can be loyal to a fault. But if I ever said that in his hearing, he'd probably deny it."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods a bit and after a mis steps back, sipping his beer "So, what do you do up here in these part. Student at one of the local schools?"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon just smiles, not answering that one too directly. "Just started studying for the state EMT exam. Hoping to take that this summer, with an eye towards national later on, and med school after that. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it." She steps up to the table, leaning over and lining up a shot. Much to her embarrassment, one of the solids -does- sink in--and it was all white. "Crap. Scratch."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will get the ball, and nods his head a bit to this and says "Plan on using magical healing or normal?" If your going to be using magic, will need to be very subtle about it, maybe hide your back inside your uniform.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shakes her head. "The wings stay out. Hiding isn't going to get me accepted. The healing isn't magic, it's part of my mutation. It's... a little hard to explain sometimes." She perches on the edge of the pool table, thinking for a moment. "A full healing, yeah, no, I'd rather not do that so much. That could freak people out. But there's a way I can partially hold it back, so it becomes more of a diagnostic tool. That's been very helpful before. So I can use both my gift and normal medicine, and save the full healing for those who have trouble with traditional medicine."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmms and ahs a bit "I thought your healing might be connected to the bag on your side. Asguardian I believe." He says of the small leather pouch "Not hiding who you are can be a hard thing, but then I can't really hide.

Nightingale has posed:
"You're right about the bag. It's not magic, though. It was a gift for my sweet sixteen." Shannon smiles at the memory of it--how much had happened since then! How much living had been done... maybe more in a year and some months, than most do in a lifetime. "I wasn't sure what to do with it at first. It sort of evolved into a first aid kit, pretty much my EDC. Some basic supplies, one or two other small items in there."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods a bit to this and says "Not often you see something from another relm being carried around if it does not have some powers, but seems it has meaning at least.

Nightingale has posed:
"Person who gave it to me became something like a brother. Not sure if you've met him or not. He's the manager over at Evolution, in Bushwick. Sam Guthrie." She smiles somewhat, allowing herself a small sigh. "Don't get to see him as much as I used to, he's had his own things to do. But it's nice being able to keep a little reminder with me."

Glancing over at Chimp, she tilts her head somewhat. "Not hiding who you are, yeah, that's difficult. It's been worth it, though. Maybe someday, somewhere down the line, those who come after us won't -need- to hide. Makes for a nice dream, anyways."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp smiles and says "Well the ones who come after you, I don't expect there will be a lot more talking chimps around." He offers a smile "I'm not a mutant, but an actual Chim, just with a bit of a story."

Nightingale has posed:
"Hey, you never know. In a world where gods and heroes walk the land, anything can happen." The game seems temporarily forgotten as Shannon chitchats away with Chimp, smiling. "I've been fortunate enough to both meet my number two hero, and to be raised by my number one heroes. Doesn't get much better than that." She looks over at the good Detective, her brow lofting just a little bit. "If you ever want, I've got two good ears to bend."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp chuckles a bit and says "Yea, appreciate it kid, but pretty much only ear I bend on a regular bases belongs to a friend of mine who runs the main bar I frequent.

Nightingale has posed:
"Well, the offer stands, regardless." Shannon smiles and takes her shot, misisng but really not minding it quite so much. "Never askd, but what's your line of work, since you kind of sort of asked about mine?"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp smiles and says "I am a private eye." He offers a card to her and says "The hat not give it away? Maybe I need to go with the Sam spade look.

Nightingale has posed:
Laughing, she just shakes her head. "Could be wearing a fedora and carrying a bullwhip, but it still wouldn't make you an archeologist. Neat hat, though."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods, and says "Well It was good enough for Holmes so I figured it works for me as well.

Nightingale has posed:
Chuckling, Shannon nods, and smiles warmly. "Classic novels. Never got into them myself, though. Usually wound up reading Shakespeare or fairy tales as a kid." Looking at the table, then at the cue in her hand, she laughs. "Whose shot is it now, anyways?"
