It came from the Deep
Date of Scene: 22 February 2021
Location: Atlantic Ocean
Synopsis: Power Girl and Captain Marvel save a supertanker from becoming an environmental catastrophe, then go get coffee.
Cast of Characters: Captain Marvel (Danvers), Power Girl

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
The call came out from just off of Long Island - a super tanker the SS Ulysses had declared a state of emergency. The huge ship, full of crude oil from the North Atlantic fields, was under attack. The reports suggested it was a massive squid. A krakken. something like that!

Time was critical. If the attacking whatever-it-is were to rupture the ship's hull and oil tanks, the environmental damage would be catastrophic on a scale that would put the Valdez and Deep Water Horizon spills at the kid's table for the holidays.

Captain Marvel responded from the Avengers, speeding her way into the sky and out over the water swiftly.

Power Girl has posed:
Finding the tanker from the air is pretty easy, actually, just follow the flailing tentacles. Apparently the reports of the squid/krakken were not exaggerated, because the thing is absolutely huge. Tentacles wave all around, many extending between fifty and eighty feet in the air. And those waving tentacles are chasing something as it flies around; something white with a red cape and blue boots.

The Avengers weren't the only ones to get the call. Power Girl, from the Justice League, is already on the scene when Captain Marvel arrives. The blonde Kryptonian is making pretty good work of the creature with her heat vision, slicing them up as they try to wrap around her. But there are a LOT of tentacles to take care of. As it rains giant calamari down onto the tanker, one tentacle manages to snag her right anke, spiraling up and around the bare leg. Had she been a normal human, the barbed suckers would've sliced through her flesh like a power saw. As it is, the creature tugs her downward with the surprise grab.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Captain Marvel does find the location quickly enough. The advantages of flying As The Crow, straight from point A to point B could never be over stated. As she arrives on the scene, she quickly appraises she is not the first. Someone is loping off squid legs like confetti. Or was. Seeing the creature manage to take hold of Power Girl, Captain Marvel tapped her earpiece, silently appreciating the cross-team communications arranged long ago for these sorts of situations. "Power Girl. I'm here. I'll start distracting it."

Diving in, Captain Marvel's fists begin to glow. First orange then yellow then white as the mid-day sun, then beams erupt from her fists and slash through half of the tentacle that holds Power Girl and severing a second completely.

"Just how many legs does this thing have?" Captain Marvel wonders aloud as three more rise above the water.

Power Girl has posed:
"..."

"...!!!"

"... oh NO you didn't!"

Power Girl is a bit distracted, it would seem. In any case, she's doing a fine job of distracting the monster's attention away from the ship. Mission accomplished!

The tentacle wrapping her leg is severed, and the Kryptonian blonde lasers another one as it lashes out at her. She's quick enough to prevent being captured by the slimy thing, but not quick enough to prevent it from wrapping around her waist with the reflexive clenching. Bursting free, she grunts as more of the squid-flesh is pushed away.

"I swear it must be growing more!" she calls out. "I think we've gotta get this things out of the water."

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Captain Marvel just watches in disbelieving admiration for how fast more tentacles seem to come out of the water to attack the ship and the two heroines. "Looks that way. Maybe try going underwater. see if we can pull this thing away from the tanker before its ripped open like a sardine can?" she considers aloud.

Dodging past a tentacle attack, Captain Marvel does as she considered, diving under water. Looking around, she blinks. No wonder. It isn't just one massive squid - there are four of them. Fighting with each other as much as they are herself and Power Girl and the ship.

Yeah.. this is going to be dicey.

Power Girl has posed:
Power Girl follows the other heroine's lead, streaking upward out of reach before plunging down sharply into the ocean below. Good thing for high tech comms. <Oh, this is perfect.> she declares. <I'm going to let one grab me, then see if I can pull it free of the others. If we keep just cutting them up, we'll increase the local shark population for the next ten years.>

And with that, Power Girl streaks closer to the mass of squids. She pokes a tentacle aggressively, and this time she doesn't resist as it wraps around her several times.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Captain Marvel can't disagree. <Yes. That's the last thing we really need.> She moves in trying to do the same as Power Girl. It goes against personal survival instincts to let these things actually grab ahold of her. <Oh. They feel like month old sushi> she declares.

Having been grabbed, Captain Marvel turns tactics and seeks to return to the sky. To pull one, or two if she's lucky, with her. For a nice one way flight to the mid Atlantic trench where they may just calm down and stop being stupid sea monsters. It's worth a try.

Power Girl has posed:
<With barbs...> Power Girl amends, nodding in agreement. She lets the thing wrap a couple times around her, getting a good hold. A second tentacle joins the first. Great plan, Karen! She grunts as they begin to squeeze, pulling an arm free just so she can get a good grip on the thing itself. Alright, now it's just...

<Up, up, and away!> Power Girl laughs as she launches herself towards the sky, giant squid in tow. Yeah, she's always wanted to say that. Her progress is slow, at first, then she build momentum and heads towards the surface. With a rush of water, the blonde drags the huge squid and prepares to THROW it away from the tanker.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Captain Marvel smirks to herself, amused. The enthusiasm is a welcome addition to this crazy situation. She, herself, rises high into the sky pulling two of the squid along for a wild ride. The flight is eliptical. Up and then almost down again but well out into the ocean and away from the continental shelf and shipping lanes. She dives back into the ocean, dragging the creatures with her. She almost feels sorry for them, imagining those eyes larger than she is tall, wide with wonder confusion and perhaps for once some fear. Flying isn't natural for extra giant squid. Dragging them deep into the depths of the ocean again, Captain Marvel begins to twist and spin, breaking free. A few low powered photon blasts in the otherwise inky darkness help to encourage the creatures to find calmer locations to regrow their missing appendages.

Rising back above the ocean, she radios, <Just another normal Monday, right? No problem.> she comments dryly. "I'm going to have to shower five times a day for a week to get this smell out of my hair. No more calamari for me for a while!> A laugh follows. <I could really use some coffee. You?>

Power Girl has posed:
Power Girl is less gentle with her squid, whirling it around a few times before hurling it towards the opposite horizon as her blue-and-red counterpart. A monster is a monster, in her eyes. The fourth squid apparently lost interest in the ship once disentangled from its fellows, and descends back to the depths it calls home. Hovering high over the ship, she gives a bold wave in response to the ship's horn blasts.

<I definitely know what you mean! Yick, right?> She spots Captain Marvel and flies towards her. <I was actually thinking about this quiet little place on Iceland. Coffee shop and hot springs.>
