Date of Scene: 11 March 2021
Location: Rec Room - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Jeremy and Indira chat about the future, both short term and long term. Capes are dumb.
Cast of Characters: Faraday, SpyderByte

Faraday has posed:
With only one more class in the day, Indira has a long gap of time to kill. She's been staying back at the mansion now that her family is settled in a nearby hotel, but she's got a lot to catch up on. She's hanging at one of the tables in the rec room with her history book open. Sort of. It's open on her tablet and she's highlighting some passages with one hand while her other hand is propping up her head to avoid falling asleep. There's a bag of microwave popcorn open in front of her and a can of Coke.

"What does it matter what war happened two hundred years ago? I am never gonna need to know this." She mumbles as she flips the page. "I don't even do trivia games."

SpyderByte has posed:
As he makes his way into the rec room, Jeremy is dressed head to toe in his black, goth apparel, complete with chains and choke collar. As he spies Indi, he heads towards her and sinks down across from her at the table. Sliding his chin into his hands, he stares at her from behind his black hair. His eyes tilt to the book, then back towards her.

<< Hello. >>

The digital Siri voice comes out soft and female from the phone strapped to his shoulder. << What war are you researching? What class? >>

Faraday has posed:
With her head propped in the same fashion, Indira glances across the table to her black-clad teammate.

"Hey." She says with a lopsided grin and a sigh. "Eh. Ms. Monroe's history. Just catching up on reading that I'd fallen behind in. It's just so dry that it's hard to keep focused on. I'll get through it eventually. Popcorn?"

She gestures to the bag before tapping off the tablet and leaning back in her chair with a grimace and a stretch. "Ugh, I think the only reason I'm still awake is that these chairs are too hard to fall asleep in. What's up with you?"

SpyderByte has posed:
As he glances at her book, Jeremy takes a few moments as his eyes give a rapid flicker. With a glance down at his phone, he unstraps it from his arm and pulls up the lesson plan that Miss Munroe has assigned. He scrolls with his finger slowly along the screen, then makes a low noise in his throat.

<< I will send you a few articles to help you out. I did this earlier in the year. It's not hard. >>

As he reaches out for some popcorn, he draws a few into his mouth for a slow munching. He shrugs his shoulders upwards at her question.

<< Nothing. Wanted to check on you. Make sure you are okay. >>

Faraday has posed:
"Awesome. The bullet points will help. All I need to learn is enough for the test than I can forget after." Indira remarks with a tap of her fingers to her temple.

"I'm good, arm's fine. Looked messier then it way." She explains regarding the other night. "Folks are doing okay. They're going to head home in a few days once things settle and after we get some security cameras and stuff set up, just in case anyone feels like some retaliation. Can't be too careful. I may still visit on the weekends for awhile, but I'll see how they settle back in. They're understandably a little spooked."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< This war is pretty important. It is a war of strategy. Very defensive. Was reveled as one of the greatest games of chess in modern history. >>

Jeremy takes another bite of popcorn, chewing on it thoughtfully.

<< I can help with security if you need me to. I was worried about you. >>

Faraday has posed:
"Yeah, but it's also ancient history." Indira shrugs as she looks to the blank tablet screen. She's smart enough, but clearly not an intellectual.

"But yeah, you can totally help. I just wanna make sure no one steps foot on the property without them knowing and to make it easy to call the cops. Some sturdier doors, maybe. I'm not sure what's out there. They just don't have a fortune to spend. I just wish I figured out what was going on sooner, but by the time I finally wore them down enough to tell me then the assholes were busting down the door like an hour later. I shoulda let you guys know then but I wanted to grab some info first. That was dumb. I owe you and Logan big time."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< You should have told me at the start. I would have helped you. To deal with danger, you need dangerous friends. >>

Like Logan! .. And himself? That was a night of stress relief for him it seemed. A step towards the dark.

He reaches out and places a hand over hers, feeling the 'bzzzt' beneath the skin.

<< We are a team. Teammates always help each other. You don't owe me anything. I think Logan enjoyed himself. He lives for this. >>

Faraday has posed:
"I know. Guess I wanted to try and be a bit more of a hero and it almost cost me." Indira reaches over with her other hand to thump it down on his. It's a bit like being the cheese in a numbing sandwich, but she doesn't let it linger much as she laughs quietly.

"Also, I really need to find some way to deal with this discharge issue. I'm tired of shocking everyone and frying my stuff. How're you doing? Jumping right into the battlefield isn't your thing, but you were being a straight badass out there."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< I am fine, I suppose. I have not felt myself in a few weeks. I have felt tilted and unbalanced. Confused. Heartbroken. >>

Jeremy gives a shrug of his bony shoulders upwards.

<< It's my fault, really. I'm not good at socializing, or understanding people. >>

He doesn't seem to mind the tingling effect of her touch as he sits there patiently, squinting his eyes a bit in thought.

<< But, I will just defrag myself and reboot. It's the only thing I know how to do. >>

Faraday has posed:
"People don't understand people, no matter how good you are at it." Indira says to him with a echoing shrug and a faded smile. "That's kind of why the world is the way it is, really. Plenty of people try. They're the good ones. They don't always get it right, but you try and learn. It's the people who don't even try that drag the rest of us down."

And in blunt Indira fashion, she goes on to say, "But think of it this way. You're feeling something. Angry, hurt, confused, off, sad; whatever. Pain is good. You've said it before that you were worried you were more computer than person. Well, a computer doesn't feel any of that. You do. It means you may not be perfect, but it sure as hell means that you can be a whole lot more too. So you pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep going."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< You can program machines to replicate emotions to the point you can't tell them apart from normal humans. You should see the things they are working on now in some of these oversea labs. >>

Jeremy gives her hands a bit of a squeeze before he lets her go. He can only be zapped for so long.

<< I will be fine in time I am sure. I am just keeping myself busy with work. I am planning to graduate early so that I can begin college. Not sure if it will be local or out of state. I may stay close to here. Maybe take classes online. >>

Faraday has posed:
"But someone is still telling them to feel that way." Indira gives a click of her tongue as she retrieves some popcorn and pops a kernel in her mouth. "And I know. 'But doesn't the brain already do that?' Yes, it does, but it's the point that we can feel something and choose to act different than how we're programmed. Anyway, that's crap for ethics class."

"Lucky. You're too smart to sit in a classroom anyway like the rest of us plebs. You should. Graduate, start checking out the world, find a place you're happy in it. I'm probably stuck here for another year but I guess that's not too long. I dunno what I plan on doing after. I do want to find some way to help people, I just don't know if a matching uniform is the way to do it."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< Being a superhero is dumb. >>

Jeremy is blunt and to the point as usual.

<< I don't need that type of attention, or a colorful costume. I like what I do from my computer, in the dark. It's safer. >>

Glancing back over to her, he tilts his head to one side, then glances over to his phone as the screen lights up. His real voice finally comes through the phone.

<< How do you want to help people? By electrocuting bad guys? >>

Faraday has posed:
"Yeah, it really is." Remarks Indira as she props her head back up in her hand with a thump of her elbow on the table. "You're lucky there, you can do what you do where it's harder to find you. You'd actually do awesome at investigative stuff. You could help so, so many people. How many people out there would be better at digging up information than you?"

She doesn't wait for an answer, they know it. "Me? Yah, that's about all I'm good for. I'm not sure how that can help anyone other than zapping someone trying to steal a purse. I dunno. Maybe I can go pick up a trade, help people the old fashion way. Electrical work, carpentry; help build and renovate housing for those who need it."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< You could join the police force and save them money on tasers. >>

Jeremy gives her a lopsided smile, then huffs some black hair away from his face.

<< Batman is the world's greatest detective according to the Internet. I think he is better than me. But, yes, I agree, I am good at digging up dirt and finding things. But it comes with a risk as well. >>

He slides his chin down on the top of his crossed arms and peeks up at her, followed by a yawn.

Faraday has posed:
"HAH." Indira barks out with a laugh as she leans back in her chair while munching more of the popcorn.

"It'd work out great until the department would get sued when I'd accidentally drop some guy on his face. I dunno if they'd even let me with my busted heart. Military definitely wouldn't, so no enlisting for me. Unless someone out there knows how to fix those sorts of things. It's ironic that the girl with electrical powers has a heart that can't use them right."

She gives another helpless shrug of her shoulders. "I can always take over my dad's business, but I really don't know that I want to be a landlord for the rest of my life. It seems pretty lackluster now that I've seen what others manage to accomplish."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< Landlords have it easy. They don't do anything but collect a paycheck. >>

Jeremy thinks for a long moment, then shifts his jaw to one side. << You could ask Doctor McCoy in regards to your heart. He is a genetics expert. They build containment suits and other accessories for mutants and their powers, I am sure they can find something to strenghten your heart. >>

He taps the top of the table a few times in thought as he tilts his head to the side. << Maybe Josh Foley can help you. >>

Faraday has posed:
"Still, I'm probably too sentimental." Says Indira with a soft exhale. "That rent check can mean if someone eats that month. It's something, I guess. I need to think more on it."

Mention of the doctor and healer lends her to give her head a soft tilt. "Hm. Maybe. Isn't Doctor McCoy on sabbatical? Heard something was up, this Cure business had given him a lot of trouble. I guess I can toss him an email so he can get to it when he can, though. I guess another opinion doesn't hurt. It'd open up so many options for me, and my parents could finally stop worrying."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< Yes, he is a bit off at the moment. It will be some time until he feels normal again I am sure. But, there are other options. I am sure I can research them. >>

Jeremy lifts his shoulders upwards in a shrug, then slides his phone into his hands as he quietly commands it to begin a deep dive of experts.

<< There is nothing wrong in being a landlord. It depends on what kind you are. If you care about your tenants, then there shouldn't be an issue. Treat it as a community, not as a receipt. >>

Faraday has posed:
"My parents took me to a bunch of specialists throughout my life." Indira explains as she rubs a hand across the back of her neck. "Outside of medication, there wasn't anything they could do. But, maybe people who have aliens for friends, weird super-tech in their bathrooms, and magic hands may have something normal medicine doesn't."

"But, guess I have school to finish first before I roll on to my future. Hey if nothing else pans out, we work together! You find me people to punch, I'll punch them, and we can fund it through rental properties. I'm sure that's an entirely foolproof plan that we can retire on."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< Now you're at a school full of superheroes with superhero hook ups. >>

Jeremy points out to her with a grin. He scrolls through his phone with a thought, glancing from it to her at times, looking as if he is cataloguing some resource sites.

<< I am pretty sure they have /better/ specialists to help you out on call. From the Fantastic Four to the Avengers. There is scientific minds of all types. Reed Richards for example is probably one of the best. I am sure they owe the X-Men a favor or two. >>

Faraday has posed:
"True that. Truuuee that." Drawls Indira as she points a finger at Jeremy with a grin.

"Hey, I'm game for more opinions. I can grab my records from online. It's easy. A few clicks and print and I can give 'em the history till now from scans to tests. Now that it'll probably help to march me in front of some of the biggest, most famous heroes out there and expect my heart to behave. That's like... legendary moment shit there. I still sit there in class sometimes and realize who I'm staring at. It's surreal. Then other nights, I'm sitting there busting up trainyards with dudes like /Wolverine/ and it just feels totally normal. ...that can't be a healthy feeling, right?"

SpyderByte has posed:
<< I don't know what normal feels like. >>

Jeremy hears his phone ping.

<< I got your records already. It was easy. The SNAP servers that they house the records on are as thin as paper. At least for someone like me. I can start cross referencing your issues with specialists around the world based upon by expertise. I don't think it'd hurt to do a deep dive and find rates of success. >>

He tilts his head towards her. << Could take The Cure to short your powers out so they could work on your heart properly. >>

Faraday has posed:
"Maybe? I'm not sure, though." Indira says to him as she reaches for her can of Coke. "I was born with it, so they were trying to fix it before I ever had powers. Once I got them, I thought: Perfect! Now I can fix it myself. But, no such luck. I don't know why, but, maybe it's because both are kinda genetic? I can't shock myself, so, it didn't work to try and fix my own heart. Probably for the best, I'd have probably killed myself accidentally trying."

"But, let's see what some of the big brains say. Summer's coming, so there's plenty of time for me to work on it since class will be over. In the meantime, I need to get myself some new rubber gloves so I can stop ruining my electronics."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< I'll look for some stylish gloves that are breathable and insulated. >>

Jeremy says as he leans back into his chair, peering over at her with a small smile on his face. He relaxes a bit in his seat.

<< I'm really glad that you are back. I have missed you. It's felt lonely here in the school the last couple of weeks. >>

Faraday has posed:
"I missed you too." Indira smiles back at him with that easy, energetic grin that she has. "It's nice to be back and have people I can talk to again. To have my friends back. Not that I wasn't here for class, but you know. It's kinda hard to hang with your pals when you aren't here."

She taps her fingers decisively against the tabletop as she adds, "We should get out this weekend, catch a movie or a hockey game or something. Weather is supposed to be good, which means it's perfect to get out and do stuff. It'd be fun! Change of pace from homework and missions."
