A Wonderful Day
Date of Scene: 23 March 2021
Location: The Coffee Bean - Manhattan
Synopsis: Clark and Diana meet for coffee, and discuss going out on a...*gulp* date!
Cast of Characters: Superman, Wonder Woman

Superman has posed:
Sometimes, even the heroes need a bit of a break.

Superman is no different. In fact, he had just finished stopping a giant robot in Metropolis, compliments of the toyman. But, he flies with speed straight over to New York, where a certain Themysciran Embassy is located. With a phone in his hand, he sends a text to Diana to look outside the window.

The message written in clouds? 'Coffee?' the question is pretty straightforward. Of course, she could absolutely just text him back for the specific location, which Superman is already flying to. He finds a nice ally where nobody is and changes into some civilian clothes to become Clark Kent.

Nerdy glasses, fedorah, classic reporter attire and all. The location?

The Coffee Bean.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Everyone, sometimes, needs to take a break. It's been a noisy day in the Themysciran Embassy, and not because of visitors. Well... not directly because of visitors. It's more because of work that the visitors are doing, since a pair of fire doors and their corresponding doorframes are in need of being repaired.

When the message comes in to her phone, Diana raises an eyebrow slightly as she glances towards it. Then she picks it up to open the message and read it, her curiosity piqued. She rises from the seat at her desk, then slips her phone into a pocket of her dark grey dress slacks as she steps over to the window of her office before lifting a hand to brush the curtain aside. She wears a pair of heels, and a dark purple blouse with long sleeves that button at the wrist.

There's a smile that quirks her lips, and she retrieves her phone in order to send a reply to him. 'The Coffee Bean?' Sometimes, there's something to be said for simple messages. She turns from the window, stepping towards the door of her office and opening it before stepping out. She pauses to tell her assistant that she'll be back later and to take messages if anyone calls for her. And then she steps across the floor of the main room, heading for the door of the embassy before stepping outside.

Superman has posed:
'The coffee bean. See you in a few!' Clark responds, specifically with a smiley face emoji to go along with it. He seems happy, almost excited, if Diana has any skill whatsoever in interpreting text tone. Either way, Clark is the first to arrive, picking out a booth and ordering himself a simple coffee, black, and in a small cup. He also orders a small pie for himself, and takes his seat.

Of course, there's a view of the city and people walking back and forth. But thanks to the strange magic of his nerdy glasses, not one soul recognizes Clark Kent as Superman. Who says Superman doesn't have magic? Irregardless, He waits patiently for Diana's arrival, and he doesn't seem to be in any kind of rush.

This was a fun date day, after all. He just hopes that he won't make it awkward.

Wonder Woman has posed:
The tone is easy enough to read, especially with the smiley added to it. Diana withdraws her phone to check the message, and she chuckles softly, a smile coming easily to her features. Then she slips the phone back into the pocket of her slacks as she walks the distance from the embassy over to the coffee shop.

Once to the shop, she reaches out to pull the door open before she steps within. There's a brief glance across the interior of the shop, a small nod to the barista behind the counter, and she heads over to the table that Clark has chosen. At his table, she reaches out to pull out a seat and settle to it before crossing her legs at the knee. Lifting one of her hands, she lightly brushes a bit of hair from her face, to tuck it behind one of her ears. "Is it luck, that you happened to be in the neighbourhood?" she asks, her blue eyes showing a sparkle of amusement in them.

Superman has posed:
Clark, of course, heard Diana coming from a literal mile away. It's one of his many quirks that may make this even more adorable. His eyes lift when Diana enters the coffee shop, his eyes on her until she actually sits down in the booth, a smile on his face as she asks him if this was pure luck.

"It may have been by design." he mentions a little shyly. "You look fantastic, by the way. How have you been since we spoke last?" Clark asks curiously. No doubt Diana gets a LOT of commentary about her looks, but maybe Clark won't get the evil eye for actually being genuine.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Much as she'd heard him order his coffee and the pie, even though she hadn't been within the shop to do so. Their sense of hearing might be similar, in the range that it stretches. She tilts her head a touch to one side, watching him where he sits there across from her.

There's a warm smile that comes to her features, and she inclines her head towards him in the wake of his compliment, a hint of colour just coming to her cheeks. "Thank you, it is kind of you to say," she says softly. Then she's quiet a moment, considering the question that he's asked for a lingering moment. "I have been pretty good. Getting back into the flow of things at the embassy, after being back to Themyscira for a while. There have been a couple of incidents though I believe that certain elements simply need a reminder that certain activities will not be allowed," she comments, a thoughtful tone to her voice. There's a hint of a smile that comes after that, and she settles her forearms to rest on the edge of the table nearest her. "How have you been?" she asks, curious.

Superman has posed:
Clark never doubted even once Diana's incredible extrasensory perceptions. She's very skilled, talented, amazing, wonderful...

SNAP OUT OF IT CLARK YOU'RE IN A CONVERSATION.

Clark seems to clear his throat ever so softly. "It's the truth." Clark smiles at her then. "I'm glad that you've been doing well, Diana. Really? What kind of incidents? Of a..." his voice goes a little lower, but Diana's senses can hear him clear as day. "magical origin?" he questions her. Superman has never trusted magic, and honestly, magic DOESN'T like him. Thankfully though, he seems to be willing to help. "If you need any help, please let me know." He rests his arms lightly on the table, slightly leaning forward with interest in his tone.

"I've been pretty alright. Work at the Daily Planet is good, extracurricular activities also going strong. I occasionally head back to smallville to chat with Ma and Pa Kent...pretty good and happy, I'd like to say. Besides, I'm happy the team has gotten back together...and, well." he rubs the back of his neck as his eyes rise to meet hers.

"and see you again."

Wonder Woman has posed:
There are a lot of things that Diana is. And perhaps a lot of things that she doesn't admit to being. She is just a woman. Just a woman who happens to be a princess of the Amazons, even though she doesn't always act the part.

"Sometimes, perhaps. Though I have a feeling that others might be inclined to disagree under certain circumstances," Diana comments, a thread of amusement to her words. She has a feeling that the men who recently felt hard metal of her shield would likely have a different opinion. One of her eyebrows quirks up, and then she gives a light laugh before softly shaking her head. "Ah, no... not of the magical origin," she says quite softly. She's not as wary of magic as he is, perhaps, but she's likely not the greatest fan of it, all the same. "It was more of the potential criminal intent sort of origin. Here, a week or so ago. A couple of men came in and thought they would make off with the day's profits. And a couple of days ago, at the embassy. The latter is somewhat more troubling," Diana comments, a thoughtful tone to her words. Then she gives a nod to him. "Of course, I definitely will. Always. And if you need my help for anything, then do feel free to ask it of me," she says softly, her blue gaze resting on him.

"It is good, to go home sometimes. It helps to keep us grounded, in a fashion. I am glad to hear that your folks are doing well. It is good to have the team back together. It has been a bit of a while," she says softly. Then she tilts her head a touch to one side, studying him for a moment. "Did you miss me, while I was in Themyscira?" she asks.

Superman has posed:
"Criminals intended to rob the embassy? What did they hope to gain?" Clark asks curiously of Diana. Deeply disturbing indeed that crooks would seek the embassy -and- a day's profits right where they reside! "I assume you were able to find them and apprehend them?" He questions, though when she mentions that help is a two way street, and all they ahve to do is ask one another, Clark smiles. "I'll definitely keep that in mind." he informs her with a soft voice.

"Especially...well, the way I was raised. In my mind, my home is Smallville. I work on the farm, I tend to the crops...keep the place going when dad needs me." he mentions, a fond tone and smile find themselves upon his face. Though Diana's direct question makes him blush ever so slightly with color.

"I did." he answers, after maybe three seconds to fight through nervousness. "Did you miss me when I was out of town?" Basically when he was running around between Space, Metropolis, and really anywhere else in the world where he was needed.

Wonder Woman has posed:
There's a small shake of her head at his question. "Their goal is unknown, alas. There are suspicions as to their purpose. They came with rifles and with net guns. There are two theories, currently, as to their goals, and I am none to keen on either one. One is that they wished to kill someone, and the other is that they wished to capture someone," Diana says, her tone soft and thoughtful. It's a thing that she's been trying to solve since. She gives her head a small shake. "I did not apprehend them. They retreated after they were trounced, and I let them. They had cut the power to the Embassy, and the gates within had all closed. They had interesting timing," she says, considering it for not the first time. "I suspect the criminal element became too comfortable whilst I was in Themyscira. Too bold. I may need to walk the streets more than what I did before," Diana muses.

There's a smile as he speaks of his home, and Diana gives a nod to him. "It is your home, Clark. You were raised there. It will always be your home," she says softly, a smile easily returning to her features. "If you need help with the farm chores, I would not be against it," she adds, a flicker of amusement showing in her blue eyes.

The barista brings over a coffee and sets it on the table in front of Diana, as well as a chocolate muffin before returning behind the counter. Diana gives a nod of thanks, then returns her attention back to Clark. "I did. Our duties sometimes take us far and wide. You should come to town more often. Though perhaps next time, I should come and visit you," she suggests with a smile. Then she reaches out to pick up her coffee to take a sip of it.

Superman has posed:
"Curious." Clark's pie finally arrives, along with another one of his coffees. He gives a grateful nod to the barista before his attention is back on Diana, though he leans forward just a tad. "You didn't apprehend them? Why?" he questions her. "Don't get me wrong, it'd be fantastic to see you back in the streets and doing some good work, Diana. People need you." he tells her.

Though as she mentions that she'd be more than happy to come help out at the farm, Clark smirks. "Sounds to me like you're trying to meet my parents. Well, they'd love to have you. And honestly, a new face other than mine would probably be good for them...and maybe for me too." It'd be nice if someone else could pick a tractor up over their head too like Diana can. "I'll let you know when I'm headed back there." he mentions.

Though he seems slightly surprised when Diana suggests that she wants to visit him the next time he's away. "That's something I definitely wouldn't mind. As long as you don't get tired of my company." he smiles, albeit a little nervously.

Wonder Woman has posed:
"It is, a very curious thing. Another possibility is that they could have been testing the defenses of the embassy. They sabotaged the generator to the embassy a bit before the combat demonstration was to start, on a Sunday, and all of the barred gates came down. Everyone was contained, essentially, in the rooms where they had been, save for those who were in the main atrium," Diana says in a thoughtful tone. She lifts her coffee, taking a drink of it whilst she watches him. "No, we did not apprehend any of them. They seemed organized. It would likely have been a good idea, but there were people in the main room. It was more important to make sure that they were safe, unharmed. And to free everyone that had been trapped," she adds, her brow furrowing a little bit. She chuckles softly, setting her coffee aside before reaching for the muffin, pulling free a piece to eat it. "There is always work to be done. Some agree with it and think it is good, and others do not. As long as there are people who are swayed to make the wrong decisions for reasons they feel are worth it or right, then there will be work to do," she comments, a smile coming to her feaures. "Do you truly think so?" she asks, after his statement of people needing her. Sometimes, it's not an easy thing to see.

She gives a light laugh, and then lifts one of her shoulders in a bit of a shrug before eating another bite of the muffin. "Maybe. Or maybe it has more to do with the physical labour, and the home cooking that I keep hearing you speak about," she comments, a smile quirking at the corners of her lips. "It is a simpler sort of living than here in the city. The air is different, and so many other things are as well," she says with a smile. "Do they not leave the farm very often, to be around many others?"

"It has been a while since I have come your way. It is past time that I do, perhaps," she says, then tilts her head to one side, one of her eyebrows quirking. "I have my doubts about that ever happening, Clark. I enjoy your company," she says, a smile easily coming to her features.

Superman has posed:
"Even if they were just testing the defenses of the Embassy, those are Amazons that are defending that place. Very foolish to throw yourself into a pit of highly trained warriors unless you knew exactly what you were doing." Clark muses, before he pondered. "Agreed. Innocent lives are paramount. I'll help you catch them next time. Nobody was hurt in the chaos of the attack?" He questions her once more. Otherwise, he smiles warmly to her. "I do. There's no one else like you in the world, Diana."

Is Clark genuinely complimenting her, or just full-blown flirting?

As to his home, he smirks at her when she mentions physical labor. "I don't think it will be too challenging for you, but who knows? You might be surprised." as for his parents, he shrugs. "They leave the farm, sure, but they don't get too many visitors. They like to keep to themselves, especially now that they're a bit into their years." of course, Diana is immortal, and in some small way so was Clark, so long as he's solar charged, but the Kents? As human as humans can get.

"I enjoy yours too." he says with a soft tone.

Wonder Woman has posed:
"I think they knew the procedures for the demonstration. My sisters go into the back rooms to get ready, and that is where they were when the power was cut. It is where they were trapped, for the duration of it," Diana says, a thoughtful tone to her words. "They seemed to know what they were doing, in that regard. I am not sure that they expected me to be there. I took a couple of scratches from bullets, but they were healed before everything was said and done. There was a man who was in the main room of the embassy, he helped with fighting them off, and he was shot. Innocent lives will always be more important, regardless of what harm comes to me in the process. I can not be hurt as easily as they can, so I will always fight to protect them," she says softly, a smile tugging the corners of her lips.

Diana takes a moment, lifting her right hand to lick a bit of chocolate from one of her fingers, and one of her eyebrows quirks up at his words and she gives a soft laugh, a bit of colour rising into her cheeks. "I suppose there is not. Though I think the mold was broken with just me," she comments, a hint of amusement to her voice.

"It might not be challenging, but it is different than the work I usually do. And different is good. Variety is good. It is not often that I have a reason to go to the country, to see a farm, to help out on it. I think it would be nice to do," she says with a smile. "The farm is a fair size, I imagine that it is a good amount of work for them both. It is... hard. To see people grow old while we stay the same. Pick a weekend," Diana says, quirking a smile.

Superman has posed:
Clark ponders. "Well, I couldn't say anything about it. Your sisters are battle-trained...it makes me think this was more an inside job rather than someone looking outside in." Yes, maybe Clark has learned a little bit from Bruce about how to think about certain coincidences. "But, I hope you returned the favor of this man in the embassy, who seemed to have helped me. It is our duty, after all." to help people.

He then watches with mild surprise when Diana's cheeks color just a tad. "Of that, there is no doubt, Diana." she really is one of a kind. One in a billion. She's a rare kind of person, one that Clark admires.

Clark digs into his pie a little bit, before he chuckles. "That's true. Besides, could be interesting to see how you do on a farm." He smiles at her. "That being said...how about this upcoming weekend? You can have a slice of the world-famous pie and you can help me around the farm. It can be a date?" He's...officially asking her out now.

Wonder Woman has posed:
"Anyone who would dare to try an attack when my sisters were free to fight back would truly regret it," Diana says, watching him. "It may have been an inside job, I suppose. There are others than the Amazons who work at the embassy, so it is possible. I had not considered it," she adds, her brow furrowing. "There are too many questions that do not have answers, yet. I thanked him, for his help. I would like to give him some manner of gift for his efforts, but I have not figured out what is best yet," she muses, a thoughtful tone to her voice. "I should have prevented it, stopped it somehow," she adds, giving a small shake of her head. There was nothing that she could have done to make it turn out differently. Whenever people other than herself are hurt, there are regrets and second thoughts over every action she took.

"It could be, and hopefully will be. I hope there are horses. I will want to ride, if there are," Diana says with a warm smile, her blue eyes bright. She eats a bit more of her muffin, then takes a drink of her coffee. "I happen to be free this weekend, and I would like that... and helping you around the farm. Especially the opportunity to try the pie, so long as it would not be an imposition for it to be made," she says, giving a nod to him. Her eyes show a sparkle to them as she gives a nod, after that last question of his. "It can be a date," she agrees, a smile quirking at the corners of her lips.
