A sister's concern
Date of Scene: 04 May 2021
Location: Garage - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Rogue and Hank talk about the Shower of Doom, mostly because Rogue is concerned about Kurt's involvement.
Cast of Characters: Rogue, Beast

Rogue has posed:
After a lunch not-date with Bobby Drake in Mutant Town, and then retrieving her car from Jean and Scott's residence after having left it there last night, Rogue has returned to the Mansion/School and parked her car in the garage for later use. After stepping out of the car and locking it up, she walks back to the area where Hank has been working on the shower thingie. A glance around to see if anyone is there in the garage with her before she grabs a stool and sits in front of the device.

The shower is getting a long look from Rogue, and while she's overly curious about it, she's not going to poke around at it either. She and Kurt had talked on it a bit the night before, and while she's wholly grateful ... she's also a bit concerned. No one would know of the concern right off hand, but it's there, and it's causing the woman who can't touch anyone to be both touched and surprised by those who have agreed to work on and with such a contraption. None the less, this is where one can find a Rogue, regardless if one is looking for a Rogue.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy makes his way into the garage carrying a giant and very fluffy pink teddybear, humming as he goes with a pencil behind his ear and his overalls on. So imagine his surprise to find Rogue staring at the Shower o' Doom as she is currently doing. He blinks, shuffles the pink teddy off to sit astride one of the motorcycles in here, looking terribly weird and terribly cute at the same time and clears his throat. "Evening, Anna-Marie," cheerful enough. He grins a little. "Some gathering the Summers had eh? Nothing quite like slapping meet over fire to bring out the appetite." Ice breakers.

Rogue has posed:
"Yeah. Until you can't be the one slapping meat, or shoulders, or backs... and you're just there...even though..." Rogue stops herself. She's already ranted about it today. Now she's just sounding like a broken record to herself. A smile is plastered on and she looks over in Hank's direction. "It was nice, though. You're right. Was good to see everyone sort of just hanging out and having a good time sans students." This finally offered before she goes back to looking at the Shower of Doom. "A blue furred elf let slip last night that this shower is being made for me..." Another pause, a breath taken. "Is that true?"

Beast has posed:
"Yes. You wanted a way to have a social life from time to time. I've been modifying a micro-misting tanning booth to deliver a micro-mist of liquid latex in an emmulsification. Work in progress. Didn't cost much, overall," Hank prepares his tools to get to work on the delivery system perhaps. "But I have to make sure it's full coverage. Plus, that the level of latex to emulsion is correct."

He gestures at the pink teddy. "Crash test Teddy number one," he explains "I'll be able to see the extent of the misting because it'll gather on the ends of the fur filaments. Then? Well, once I've perfected the delivery system, we'll try a trial with a person and not a plush toy."

Rogue has posed:
"Liquid latex." Rogue echoes and then glances over to Hank as the man explains what he's actually working on. She also watches him get the tools and such he'll need to further test what he's planning on testing right now. As he mentions the crash test teddy, her gaze goes to the cute but weird looking teddy bear on a motorcycle and gives a chuckle. It's when he mentions perfecting the delivery system and running a trial on a person that has her looking back to him. "Yeah, that same blue furred elf let slip that he decided to volunteer himself to be that test subject. And I mean... I guess if it's liquid latex then as a whole it'll be alright.." She wrings her hands together a bit, her eyes filled with worry.

"....Just promise me you'll make sure he'll be alright in the end?"

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy tilts his head at her. "I wouldn't endanger anyone with something experimental, when there's a perfectly safe way to achieve the ends, if a bit of a messy one. Were you worried I was going to mute him completely?" Hank asks this with some concern. "He'll just end up looking like the teddy will, what with his fur, but liquid latex rolls off with some brushing. The ideal will be to see if the barrier between contact and him, will mean he can only teleport himself. If that's the truth, we'll have a winner."

Rogue has posed:
Rogue blinks and then tilts her head one way and then the other. "Well, no, I didn't think... I mean.. I know..." She pauses her thoughts and takes a big breath to sigh out. "I trust you, Hank, I truly do. I trust Kurt too. But he also wasn't really letting me in on what was happening so I got a little worried is all." Now she's flustered because really it all seems practical and safe. Little blue elf making her all worried and stuff. "Wait... so... Kurt has to be touching someone in order to teleport them? I thought they just had to be, like, in range or something..." She smirks. "But if it only sticks to his fur, is that going to be enough? Or are you hoping it creates some sort of...layer...held together by both fur and latex?"

Beast has posed:
"Kind of, yes," Hank replies, with a smile. A reassuring smile with crinkles around the eyes and a warm tone of voice. A doctor's voice that probably could've given Patch Adams a run for his money. "I suspect that it won't work brilliantly, because I think it's more proximity with him, but it WILL tell us how good the coverage is, if he ends up mildly yellow all over. I'm going to make the latex semi-transparent skin tone, so it's not bloody obvious and all that."

Hank lifts the teddybear off the motorcycle and sets it in the cubicle, getting down on his back to work on the nozzle feeds underneath. "I only tried it with water before, which made a nice little cloud. We'll see how it does with a thicker fluid now. Trial Latex -- the emulsion is important or the nozzles will get clogged and to note, any coverage we achieve will stand up to only casual contact. No hyper gymastics or punching people into next week, but being out in a sundress and casual contact, it ought to work fine. Then you will just need to wash it off with a shower scrub later. This is the reason I tested your power with a very fine layer of tissue paper."

Rogue has posed:
"And latex is better than like, even a suntan spray cause of the...uhm...polywhatsits.. they make a thicker layer. It's still thin, but it's thick enough to actually act like that tissue that you used..." Rogue offers. Her southern accent thick, but she at least seems to know a bit of what she's talking about. After a moment she lowers her head, and despite herself, a few tears roll down her cheek. So she turns her head away to further hide them, even if she shifts a hand to do a quick you-cant-see-this swipe against her eyes to rid the wetness. "Kurt last night, and Bobby today... said that we're friends, family even, and we'd do anything to help the other. I feel like a right twit being such a broken record lately. Especially since you've been doin' this for me cause I asked you to, when you could be doin' so much more important work. My social life isn't....worth all this effort. It's really just been a pipe dream."

Beast has posed:
"Anna-Marie..." Beast begins this with a softened tone "...never, ever, EVER belittle mental health. You are an integral part of this team and we live, work, learn and fight beside one another. When another human being is suffering when we could do something to improve their condition, well, who are we to deny it? This is not a cure, but I don't do cures these days. What it is, is a rather silly contraption that will be quite messy to clean, which will make your life a bit more bearable. Worth it a million times over." Looking up at her from underneath the shower, Beast then slides himself back under and does some important work under there.

THere's a PSsssssshs of gas cannisters being activated and he slides back out again, rolling to his feet and looking at the teddy in the middle. "Right. Here goes." And he presses the button. <<PSsssCCCCCCCCCCCHHhhhhhhhhhhhFFFFT~>> a yellowish white cloud, akin to someone having had an accident with a food mixer and flower, errupts. "Of course we're not going to get an entirely accurate picture here, as the teddy can't turn around slowly in the cloud, but..." Maybe a minute goes by, before the cloud settles to a pink bear with little dots of 'honeydew' all over it. It doesn't look as if any area got missed, judging by the dew. "Well, Huzzah!"

Rogue has posed:
"I should invest in some silicone lip gloss too, huh?" Rogue says, finally, before giving a nod of her head. "I dunno if I want a cure, this will be enough for now. Until we can find maybe a more permanant solution. Ideally, eventually, I'll find a way to control it. Until then..." She motions to the shower contraption. "A little mess or a lot of freedom...is worth it. Yes." And then she smiles, a genuine thing.

As Hank sets up the shower, activating gas canisters and making sure the teddy bear is in place, she watches. The shower gets turned on, there's a LOT of white, like a big cloud and when it all settles, the teddy bear seems to be covered where it was intended to cover it. "Huzzah indeed! It seems to be working."

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy claps his hands. "And now, we let Crash test Teddy set for a bit and I work out if I need more emulsifier or not. This is where the science and the magic happens, but yes, I'd call the initial sticky test a success!" Beaming, he looks at her sidelong. "Feel a bit less worried about your brother now? I think I'm going to tinge his batch with pink so it stands out well against the dark blue. I'll make him wear a shower cap or that'll be horrid. But I am definitely getting pictures."

Rogue has posed:
Rogue nods her head. "I shouldn't have felt worried in the beginning. Dunno why I did, really.." She offers this much and then smiles. Then, despite herself, she stands and approaches Beast...but at the tail end of it, she just reaches a gloved hand out to squeeze against his shoulder. "Thank you, Henry." Using his *actual* and *real* name this time. Gasp! It must be so genuine there's no level for it! "And yes. It should be pink, and there better be pictures, cause I want to see them."

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy beams at her. Just a simple thing, his name, makes a world of difference in appreciation. Respect. Honestly, that's why he calls her by her name and not her callsign; who she is, not "what" in so many situations. "It. Will. Be. Epic." He whispers as he leans forward a bit, to share the conspiracy, sotto voce.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue WANTED to hug him, so very much, and really if she were careful enough she could, but she ultimately doesn't. Held back by her fear that she'll screw it up in the long run. None the less, when he gives that whispered conspiracy of a thought, she chuckles. "I can't wait. It will be awesome." Then she looks around again. "Do you...need anything from me?"

Beast has posed:
"SO, VERY much..." Beast grins, then considers. He knew there was a hug that wasn't landing, seeming to be quite ok with it. "No, not really. Not at this stage. I mean I suppose you could move things around if you liked, or could help me poke the bear, but at this stage, it's just a matter of examining the filaments of Crash test bear under the microscope to see how glooped it is. Test viscosity and elasticity." He ponders.

Rogue has posed:
"Nah. I'll let you do your thing. Then wait for Kurt to be covered in pink stuff." Rogue says this much and then chuckles a little before she hops back a bit. "I think I'll head back into the mansion. Maybe get a snack or something...and then go and read more of the book I've been working on getting through." She chuckles then.
