Looking for someone (to annoy
Date of Scene: 04 May 2021
Location: The Magic Box, Sunnydale
Synopsis: Spike meets Zatanna and steals a present.
Cast of Characters: Spike, Zatanna Zatara

Spike has posed:
For the first time in a while Spike comes into the Magic Box. The sun is down so he isn't smoking and entering at a dead run. Where is the fun in that? Regardless there is a cigarette dangling from the right corner of his mouth so there's that.

He pauses to look around to see who is about and then heads towards the candles of all things. He really doesn't look like a candle sort of guy with black finger nails, bleach blonde hair, and long black coat.

Zatanna Zatara has posed:
Zatanna has been spending more time in Sunnydale since the, um, issue with the cursed shield relic. The Magic Box seems to be a place where people gather. People who are, as they say, in the know. Right now the magician is dressed normally in a pair of jeans, a loose sweater, and a long coat.

Zatanna has found a book on the occult and is leafing through it casually when the jingle of the bell announces Spike's arrival. Her gaze flickers towards him, lingering a touch as he heads for the candles.

Spike has posed:
So he does stop and start picking up a few. He sniffs this and that and after about four he coughs and gags a little,"Essence of slug. Bloody hell what kind of...." he pauses and shakes his head and puts it back down,"Nothing says you're not getting any like candle of slug." he grumbles.

Nobody around that he is used to, but he does note the unfamiliar one. He nods to her and after a drag he exhales and asks,"So you the new girl then? Any thoughts on a gift for the girl that has everything...and if she doesn't she just gets it?"

Zatanna Zatara has posed:
Zatanna tilts her head, blue eyes meeting his. "The new girl? I suppose you could say that. No one told me about you, however. From the accent you're a long way from home." Putting down the book, she closes it carefully and turns more directly towards him.

"That really all depends on the girl, I suppose. What does she think of you, for starters? I'd generally start with something that reminds her of you."

Spike has posed:
"I'm the dirty word they don't like to use around here." he replies with a shrug. He doesn't exactly leer at her, but he does take time to take her in once,"A long way from home yes. Not sure what home is anymore. Definately not the land of the limeys."

Considering the shop again he admits,"She thinks enough of me to ignore the obvious problems and still share her home and bed with me." he replies with a shrug. He picks up a trinket on a chain, however the chain is wrapped into another and a cross comes up with the necklace and it burns his hand before he can drop it,"Bloody Hell!"

Zatanna Zatara has posed:
Zatanna watches him as he speaks, giving him enough of her full attention. Then he does the little juggling act with the cross necklace. She shares her home and her bed... with a vampire. How interesting.

"She must be a very understanding woman." Zee replies, reaching out casually to pick up the chain with the cross and untangle it from the other. "Sunnydale certainly does have some of the most interesting people. And I've met some interesting people in my time."

Spike has posed:
Shaking the hand a few times, like that really helps, he snorts and manages a,"Thanks." when she takes the cross away,"Selina's one of a kind." he agrees and takes the last drag of the cigarette and exhales before stubbing it out.

He taps the side of his head and comments,"The nasty government types stuck a mean ol' microchip in my brain. I try to much on anyone or try to injure them and it blows up white hot whithering pain in my head. It tends to make a bloke a little more...domesticated."

Zatanna Zatara has posed:
Zee's blue eyes brighten at that, her smile becoming wry. "The government." she repeats. "Of course." Crude, yet brutally effective. "There would have been other ways, of course. But then again, I'm sure you must've done something to deserve it. At least in their eyes."

For that matter, it would be simple for Zee to just... remove the chip. For that matter she could go one further; she could remove it and not tell him. She chuckles softly, and doesn't bother stifling the sound. "So the government domesticated you and this lucky woman Selina took you home."

Spike has posed:

He looks over the books for a moment and pulls one out a little,"A pretty good blow by blow." he tells her,"It isn't completely accurate, but mostly." He looks at a few of the other books and even considers the one that he pulled out for Zatanna to look at.

"Let's just say I wasn't the best behaved lot when I was younger." he tells her and moves on to the herbs and such, though he doesn't stay there long,"Since Buffy and her Scoobies don't seem to be around you can just tell them you met Spike and see how many stories you get."

Zatanna Zatara has posed:
Zee clasps both hands behind her back, watching him as he speaks. It's just the two of them in the shop, now, and she addresses him casually. "I may not know your personal story, Spike, but I'm a little bit familiar with things that go 'bump' in the night. Like vampires."

Zatanna shifts her feet, boot heels scraping softly. "But then again, I'm also not one to judge." Besides, if the Slayer lets Spike hang around, he can't be ALL bad.

Spike has posed:
"A white hat that doesn't instantly think the vampire is the bad guy? That's a first." he mutters and leans against the counter to talk to her casually, not looking anymore. A zippo appears and another cigarette is lit,"Non judgemental? You better not let Buffy hear that. She might quesion your integrity or something."

Zatanna Zatara has posed:
The woman's smile becomes somewhere between playful and downright mischievous. "My integrity is only occasionally questioned. I can live with that. But although I generally do work for the good guys, I don't wear a white hat." Reaching into her open coat, she produces a silk top hat and snaps it open with a flourish. A twirl, then she sets it onto her head with practiced tap. If he follows stage magicians or even performers he might recognize her. Then again, she never did offer her name.

Spike has posed:
He watches the hat flourish with a hint of a smirk. He takes a drag from his cigarette and when he exhales he frowns thoughtfully,"You're that magician lady. Zatanna something right?" His memory is disturbingly accurate and he rarely forgets anything so he proably never bothered to read past her first name.

He smirks again and admits,"Good to see someone that doesn't have to have the perfect bleached out hat. Black suits some better." He looks down at a ring and picks it up. No diamonds or anything, but old gold with a red gem in it,"What are the chances this isn't cursed some how I wonder? I don't feel too much."

Zatanna Zatara has posed:
Zee tips the hat with another practiced gesture. "Zatanna Zatara, at your service." she replies. In a lot of ways she's pleasantly surprised that he remembered her first name. Most guys don't get past the fishnets. He picks up the ring, then, and she turns her attention towards it.

"Llet ruoy sterces." she says in a low voice. Nothing seems to happen. The ring doesn't hop or rattle or even turn hot. "It's a normal ring. Old gold, and quite pure. The garnet is good quality as well. A very pretty thing, indeed."

Spike has posed:
In his defense, she is wearing jeans right now. He watches curiously as she looks at the ring. The words get a raise of his brow and after a moment he realizes what she's done,"That's..." he doesn't have words. Instead he looks at the ring,"...impressive."

He drops the ring into his coat pocket and pauses when his phone buzzes. He looks at it and smirks a little,"That would be Miss Kyle." he comments lightly and nods to her,"Thanks for the input. See you around." With that he heads out towards the back exit where the practice room is. Probably to workout right? Surely not to get the ring at the five finger discount. Right?

Zatanna Zatara has posed:
Zatanna watches him palm the ring and she sees where it goes. Sleight of hand? Yeah, that's definitely in her playbook. Folding arms over her chest, she shifts her weight to one foot and watches as he heads towards the back. Buffy must have her reasons.

With a tip of her fingers she touches the brim of her hat. "Tah raeppasid." The silk hat vanishes, and Zee turns back to the book she had been leafing through.
