Missing: One Rosie
Date of Scene: 17 May 2021
Location: NY Forest land near Trapp's Mountain Hamlet
Synopsis: Rosie is found and returned to the Xavier Institute.
Cast of Characters: Antigravity, Cannonball, Rogue, Sinister

Antigravity has posed:
The trail of minor destruction going North from the Salem Center Renn Faire grounds was somewhat telling, it showed someone was probably flying low, in a panic, with several trees uplifted from their roots and screwn accross pathways and small ravines. A boulder was perilously dislodged and surrounded by tape by the parks and rec team of another town. A disused storage shed had a crumpled wall where someone had adjusted its mass in on itself, and continued North and East, going up into the mountains.

The damage began to be sparse the further up they got -- probably because she was wearing herself out. Rosie's flight had been fueled by adreniline, and it appeared it had worn out. Broken branches high up in the trees would lead fliers into an area of old logging and hunting cabins.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over and says "Ok, so ya know, if she is striking out, she can make you get some massive vertigo, crashed into a tree, first time we met." He offers to Rogue. Sam is flying slower and cutting his roar as best he can as he watches for the trail "Looks like up ahead she should be getting close to a place she held up at."

Rogue has posed:
"Alright, I'll take that into consideration." Rogue says as she keeps pace with Sam, the two of them flying and following the trail that they find. Looking ahead to see the same thing as Sam does and so she shifts to actually fly a little bit lower and slower. "I just wonder how we're going to better pinpoint where she held herself up in."

Antigravity has posed:
The cabins are pretty sparse, but there is signs of Rosie's passing in the broken boughs -- and one utterly destroyed and abandoned cabin. Its wall has been reduced, and its roof partially caved; looks relatively recent.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over and says "I would think she has probably taken up in one of the cabins." He motions to the destroyed one "Lets check that one first, she maybe held up in the remains if there is enough left, if not might be a clue on which way she went." He will head down to land next to the cabin.

Rogue has posed:
"Yeah. That's my guess as well..." Rogue says this and then nods. "Sounds like a plan, yeah. Be a bit careful as we go..." Dropping down, she lands next to Sam and then shifts to begin walking around the cabin to see if she can find a door to walk into.

Antigravity has posed:
The door is thankfully just shifted off its hinges.

This cabin looks old, and a bit like no one's redecorated since the late 90's.

    Smells like it too.

There's a windbreaker (or pieces of it, whatever wasn't taken by dry rot) hanging on a peg. A squirrel chitters at Rogue, and goes out via a gnawed-out hole in the boarded up chimney.

There's a creaking sound as the roof above tenses with some wind.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks about the place, letting Rogue step inside the place. If it comes down on her, she will be ok even if not flying. He starts walking around the place, looking for tracks or evidence of Rosie having been here.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue watches the squirrel a moment as it shitters and then flees out of it's hole. Her eyes shift to the roof as it groans with the wind and then she looks around the cabin itself a bit more. Further steps take her inside - and Sam's right - even if it all came down she'd be no worse for wear. Maybe a bit bruised, but she'd be otherwise fine. "...Rosie?..." A pause. "It's Rogue. Are you here?"

Antigravity has posed:
There's no answer in the ruined cabin. The squirrel escapes out the roof, chitters at Sam a moment, and then hops off to another branch.

There's a few other cabins in the area, most of them older, set up along an old logging road.

Sunlight glints off one cabin that has a broken window, just big enough that someone small might be able to get through. Some of the points are tinted red.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks into the window of the cabin Rogue is in, "Got a broken window in one up the road a bit, looks like might be blood on the broken glass. I'm heading up there, will meet ya there." And with that Sam starts a jog up towards the other cabin.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue sighs as she doesn't get an answer, about to step deeper into the cabin when she hears Sam's voice through the window. "Alright." This and then she's turning to leave this cabin, moving to take off into a jog with Sam to head to the other cabin up the road. "I'll go into this one too, first. Don't need you gettin' hurt, ya know? We both know I can take it if the roof is collapsed onto me." A pause. "Maybe see if you can peek at any more clues through that busted window?"

Antigravity has posed:
The broken window cabin shows signs of disturbance. The glass on the inside shows that it was busted from without.

There is also a black and white flannel shirt with glass shards and blood spots on it sitting on the side of a couch, seen through the window.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will walk around the window checking out what can be seen inside it from the windows, trying to get an idea if Rosie might be in there or at least signs of her having been there.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue shifts to walk over towards the door of the cabin, whether she can open the door or she has to force it open, she'll make her way into the cabin if she can. "You seein' anythin' Sam?" She calls out before stepping inward, slow steps as she's making sure she's not walking into a trap or...some sort of trouble.

Antigravity has posed:
The door was originally master-locked from the outside. It was no longer locked, the padlock hanging with its shackle open. Rogue is easily let into the cabin.

This cabin's decor is from the 80's. There are shoeprints coming from the window, going towards a pantry (which hung open, a spider is currently busy with a little blue butterfly caught in its web). A yellow and white afgan had been moved from the couch. A cushion was also moved and set near the stone fireplace, which had signs of recent use. The smell of woodsmoke hung in the air.

There was a plain, brown wallet set on an end table. Rosie's Xavier Institute student ID is on the table, taken on her second day at the school, shows a smiling girl with a healing forehead cut and a couple of bruises along the side of her head.

Other than the blood on the glass, there doesn't appear to be much in the way of a struggle.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks through the windows, and says "Not seeing anything from here." He will head around the building till he is back to the front of the building stepping up to the doorway, and asks "anything inside?"

Rogue has posed:
"Is this her wallet, Sam?" Rogue asks while glancing back to him, picking up the wallet from the table and the student ID. "Her student ID is here too...so...we're getting closer?" She offers Sam the wallet - and assuming he takes it - she walks over to the fireplace, actually reaching in to move some of the ash around to see if it's still hot or just warm. "Lets go see if there's footprints outside..."

Antigravity has posed:
The ashes were cooled, long since perished the embers.

And inside, in the dust as Sam steps out of the light coming in the window, they'd be able to see additional, larger footprints. A brushing of the dust near where Rosie had been by the fire to stay warm, like someone with a cape had knelt there.

And then back outside -- where the pine needles were disturbed by someone's footprints, and then -- nothing.

Whowever Rosie left with, they also flew.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie does take the wallet, and nods "Looks like hers." He will frown a bit at the sign of other foot prints, and signs of a flyer "Ok, she could be doing the flying, but she is not comfortable with carrying people yet, so looks like someone else who could fly or teleport got her."

Rogue has posed:
Rogue frowns, walking back outside, eyes to the ground to find those pine needles disturbed until the foot prints are gone and she looks up to the skies. "Fuck." It's a simple word and then she looks around again. "We should have brought someone who's good at tracing scents..." None the less, she takes off straight up into the skies and looks around, perhaps trying to find any sort of evidence on where Rosie and company fight have flown off towards.

Antigravity has posed:
While Sam flies off to the West, Rogue takes the East, cruising along until she may find an abandoned little medical complex -- with a suspiciouslly big crater in the parking lot. Almost like something super-massive struck down, and then got up and walked away.

Rogue has posed:
At this point, Rogue isn't going to let anything go unsearched. She shifts to fly down towards that crater, landing and looking around for a moment. Assessing how many buildings there are, their conditions, and if any of them look more recently used than another perhaps? Walking forward a bit as she looks around, steps slow in case anything comes out after her - not really sure what to expect at this point.

Sinister has posed:
THe complex looks as if it was once part of a community that shut down, likely from jobs drying up in the late 80's. The construction all looks like it came from that particular era, including the rather clunky looking finishes and love of ugly concrete parking, which is cracked with weeds, but nowhere near as much as that crater.

There are one or two signs of life about the place, which had a high street and a few houses, a church, etcetera, all borded up. Some areas of the store fronts etcetera have cleaner spots where lettering used to be.

Homeless and vagrants likely shack up in a couple of these holes. The doctor's office and pharmacy that was here looks about as run down as other places, but there is a singular sort of hum from beneath the ground that vibrates the soles of feet, suggesting a basement generator.

Rogue has posed:
If this is where Rosie and company is, then Rogue has to consider what's been found so far and that includes the blood stained window. So she takes into account the fact that there's hum beneath her feet, and a medical facility of sorts here, and that's where she'll go first. A city away from the cities it seems, but she'll decipher all of that in her mind later. First thing is finding Rosie, making sure she's safe, and getting her home. Starting with the medical facility, doctor's office, and then working around - unless she finds the source of what that humming might be coming from or further powering.

Sinister has posed:
Definitely appears to be the basement of the doctor's and pharmacy. The doors are rather cleverly boarded up, in fact. Close examination will show that it's a facade and the boards don't nail the door closed. It's openable, quite possibly by just turning the handle.

Rogue has posed:
Well here goes nothing! The handle of that door is turned and Rogue tries to both push and pull to see if the door opens. Slow goings this one because, again, she's not really sure what she's walking into and she's trying to keep herself prepared for just about anything. If she manages through the door, she'll pace herself to further see where the rabbit hole goes.

Antigravity has posed:
How deep does the rabbit hole go?

Far further insidethere's a blonde teenager quietly working on a non-neutonian substance in high, viscous quantities.

And when she's done chewing, she adds another glob of chewing gum to the mass the size of a softball, using her mass control powers to condense it ever smaller. There is splatters of paint, and she's wearing an old lab coat over her shirt. She's got a scar on her forehead that's still healing, but other than that, she's still Rosie.

There is a loud SPLAT and SQUEALCH sound when the mass of chewing gum sails through the air and strikes a wall within, out of Rogue's sight.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue doesn't see the mass sail through the air and strike the wall that's out of her sight, but as she spies the teenager she's been looking for there's at least a slight loss of tension knowing that Rosie is alive. The bigger question will be if she's well. And so Rogue quickens her pace, hoping to get to Rosie's side.

"Rosie? Thank gods you're alright." She offers, trying to sound simply relieved that she's found the woman and not at all worried about what might come when she tries to get Rosie to leave.

"You've got everyone worried sick...is everything okay?" Asking this, looking to the woman's forehead very briefly before trying to catch Rosie's gaze.

Sinister has posed:
The sound of a kettle whistling to high pitch boil arrives about then, from a small office kitchenette around the corner from the reception room. The floor is a bit dusty, but otherwise quite clean, though there's not much in the way of homely touches.

Sinister, or rather Sinister looking just a lot like a man, without the glowing red eyes, cloak and diamond in the forehead looks rather ordinary, if extremely tall, when sporting a regular human complexion. He appears in the archway of the kitchenette, holding a couple of cups, a small bagette roll and an assortment of cookies on a plate, including a jammie dodger or two (Peak freans if you're not appallingly english).

Antigravity has posed:
Rosie hadn't noticed Rogue walking in -- but when she hears her name called she pauses, stiffens, and retreats backwards, her hazel eyes opening wide before the gum expands from its sticky spot on the wall, and she backs up from Rogue.

"Ah'm all right, Miss Rogue." she states softly, her hand reaching back to an abandoned medical cart, her fingertips brushing against it as it gives a shudder --

And then Sinister arrives, with cups, bread... and biscuits on a platter. Well, the funny things that the Brits call biscuits. They're just cookies to Rosie.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue glances over to the man who comes into that archway, brow raising as she looks him over. His face, why does it seem familiar? Then she looks over to Rosie and gives a smile. "I'm glad you're alright Rosie...but we need to get you back to the school." A look over to the man again and her eyes narrow. She doesn't care if he comes with treats and drinks. Rogue's mission is retrieval, and she'll do whatever necessary to get that mission done.

"Like I said, people are worried. It took me a bit to find you. Come on. Let's get ya home, yeah?" Reaching a hand out towards Rosie then.

Sinister has posed:
Sinister sets the tray and cups down on the bare reception desk, nodding a greeting to Rogue as he does so. He takes a cookie off the plate (a jammie dodger, of course) and black tea in cup, striding to look into an examination room and the quiet feed of a Tv playing local free news and bulletin reports. He sips quietly.

Antigravity has posed:
"... why?" Rosie challenges, taking a step back from Rogue. "Ah good as killed that girl, Miss Rogue, fer throwin' a rock." Rosie explains. "An' besides, Mr. S over there? He's been helpin' me with some instruction. Ah think Ah almost have makin' gravity bubbels down if I just refine the particulate energies and connect the energy through the electron cloud surroundin' each molecule as an extension of my touch but Ah've gotta get more practice in." she states, wandering over to the reception desk, and grabbing up a chocolate chip cookie.

"Ah'm as good as evil anyway. Like the preacher says, evil's jus' in my blood."

Rogue has posed:
"Wait. Killed? Rosie what are you on about?" Rogue says this before shooting Mr. S a look for a moment and then she glances back over to Rosie. "Wasn't Hank trying to help you with your powers? Besides, you got friends there. Hell, family. And you ain't the only one who's almost killed or even has killed someone with their powers. That don't make you evil, Rosie, don't none of it do. Fuck what any preacher tells you. Only person that can make you good or evil is you...and if you learn and practice...ain't a matter of what anyone else says. It's what /you/ believe." Though it seems like Rosie might not go as willingly as Rogue first hoped, so she's calculating what she might be able to get or not get away with at this moment.

Sinister has posed:
"See, I did tell you," Sinister murmurs, blowing on his tea, then sipping it again with hollowed cheeks. THe sigh of satisfaction is practically genetic. He looks from the doorway to the two ladies. "And I tried to point out that you were highly unlikely to be murdered for a power flare-up." He gestures with the tea to Rogue. "But I am glad that I insisted you didn't stay out in the woods. If I could find you, others certainly could."

Antigravity has posed:
"An' they found me anyway." Rosie points out to Sinister, and she frowns, lifting a cup of tea.

"... Miss Munroe had an outing for class, an' there were kids throwin' stones. I threw a bigger one and crushed a girl. I've seen the results of industrial accidents like that, Miss Rogue. The minute the boulder lifts, they bleed out."

And then she turns back to the man. "It wasn't a flare up, Mr. Sinister. I threw that rock with intent to hurt 'em. That was malice."

Rogue has posed:
"I kissed a boy when I was fourteen. The moment we kissed, my powers activated. I didn't know what was going on...and the consequence of that simple action resulted in his death." Rogue offers. "I gave Jeremy Statton mouth to mouth because he was drowning after falling in the lake. I rendered another mutant nearly permanately unable to use her powers, /and/ I stole her very consciousness, drawing it into mine. It took a very long time to separate us and while she's finally all she was and now some...I now have the powers I took from her permanately. That was from an order given to me by my step mother. While I worked for the Brotherhood." Rogue offers. "I've killed humans. I've maimed mutants. And the only one who ever actually showed me, a murderer and a threat to all mutants, any ounce of actual respect and gave me a chance was Charles, Scott, and Jean. The others had to come around to me being there."

She pauses a moment, letting it all sort of sink in. "Maybe it wasn't a flare up. You wanted to do a thing, you did it, and there was an unfortunate accident. And I get it... there's no words I could say then, now, or down the line to make that moment not feel like what it does, but I am telling you...you have people who are ready and willing to help you. To nurture you. To let you grow into the amazing mutant we all know you can be. Don't let the single action of a moment destroy what you've been working towards since coming to Xavier's..." She dares a step forward and holds out a gloved hand. "It's time to come home, Rosie. Please."

Sinister has posed:
Sinister's eyes shift to Rosie now, taking a bite of his biscuit and crunching it neatly in half. He cleans crumbs with an outstretched pinky, in a very well-bred kind of way. It appears he's guaging her response, accutely.

Antigravity has posed:
Rosie struggles a moment, looking at Rogue, and she wraps her arms around herself, losing interest in the sweet. The blonde girl looks back and forth between Rogue, and to Sinister, split in her wants. She knits her fingers together as she sits on the check-in counter, and she weighs her words.

"... I'm not going to be killed for making a big show of my powers? For bein' dangerous and angry?" she questions softly to Rogue.

Rogue has posed:
"No. Rosie. No." Rogue offers then and shakes her head before stepping closer. "We're not in the business of just killing mutants because of...any of that. Hell, even Logan is just tossed in the Danger Room when he needs to work out his issues." Then she tilts her head. "You have my word, Rosie. We're not wanting to do anything to punish you. We don't exist for that. We exist to help." She holds her hand out once more. "Please. Come home."

Sinister has posed:
Sinister finishes the rest of his cookie, wiping the tip of his pinky at the corner of his mouth, leaving it lingering there as he gazes at the exchange. There's a soft chuckle at the commentary on Logan, his finger allowed to relax and curl down into his palm, a secondary jammie dodger lifting off the plate and floating to waiting fingertips.

Antigravity has posed:
Rosie shifts her weight, looking uncomfortable a little bit, and then she breathes out, and loos to Sinister.

"... I've learned a lot." she states to the jammy-dodger noshing Sinister, and then she pushes herself off the check-out counter, and takes off the lab coat.

Rogue would be able to see the litany of scars around her shoulders as she does so, leading down beneath the sleeveless teeshirt.

"All right. Knew it wouldn't last." she states softly, rubbing the back of her head.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue isn't going to let Rosie get a chance for any second thoughts, and if Sinister plans on suddenly deciding he's keeping Rosie - well - she's not going to let him really make such a decision. Rogue gently takes Rosie by the arm once she's out of that lab coat and begins to lead the other woman from the room at her side. She'll ask about the scars later, likely insist Hank checks her out in the medlab back at Xavier's...but that's then. Right now, she just wants to ensure she and Rosie make it safely out and home.

Sinister has posed:
Sinister tracks Rogue with his gaze, lifting the cookie to wave it side to side in fairwell. "Don't be a stranger, miss Rosie... Think of me, when you're practicing," - his gaze shifts from blue to red and pupiless, his skin paling out around the eyes as he looks at Rogue, the diamond in the forehead and back once again to human looking and handsome if you like that sort of tall and dark.

He makes no move to obstruct them, taking cookie and tea and heading into the examination room to watch the news reports.

Antigravity has posed:
And Rosie isn't allowed second thoughts. The teenager turns to regard Sinister -- watching his visage change momentarily -- and then she turns back to follow Rogue.

"... I Don't even know where we are..."

Rogue has posed:
"It's fine. I can get us home. So long as you don't mind being carried." Rogue offers as they head out of the facility. "Sam has your wallet, and your student ID. I'll make sure he meets us back at the school. Ready?"

Antigravity has posed:
"... no." Rosie answers truthfully, "... but too late to turn back now." she states, and she takes a breath, and lifts off the ground on her own, lifting skywards.

    "... was Sam mad?"

Sinister has posed:
The answer to where they are, is soon to be 'where they were'. But in a more helpful manner, in an abandoned tourist township a little outside of Rochester.

Rogue has posed:
"Concerned. I didn't get mad from him...worry. Jeremy and Lucas as well. And Shannon." Rogue offers as she takes off from the ground herself to fly next to Rosie. She'll then lead the student back to Xavier's.

Antigravity has posed:
And Rosie follows dutifully behind -- until about thirty minutes into the flight when she begins to falter, in which case she'll be embarrassedly flown back to Xavier's -- likely for debriefing.

After all, staying with anyone by the last name of Sinister can't be good.
