Date of Scene: 20 May 2021
Location: Midvale, New Troy
Synopsis: Cameron and John talk about hammocks after a hard day of landscaping.
Cast of Characters: John Connor, Cameron

John Connor has posed:
It was a quiet Sunday evening in Midvale, and John Connor, John Baum to his neighbors, was outside in the backyard. He and Cameron had been working all weekend out there, weeding, cutting the grass, painting, covertly setting triggers, alarms, sensors, and otherwise fortifying it. But that was the easy stuff. The hard part was fixing the fence, painting, and the general landscaping. And finally, it seemed to be done.

John was exhausted. He was only human. Cameron was able to continue if she had wanted to, but they were done, at least everything they could do tonight. He was now stringing up a hammock between two trees, it was a large one, pretty wide, and he had been looking forward to testing it out all day. As he slowly climbed into it, he let out a moan of pleasure, almost as if all those aches and pains no longer existed. "Ahhh."

Cameron has posed:
Cameron is wearing a pair of jeans, just because it avoided any nicks and cuts that always seemed to happen when working on things like this, and a plain t-shirt which is smudged with dirt and paint at this point in the afternoon. She had to wash her hands multiple times to get the dirt out from under her nails but finally succeeded.

As John settled on the hammock, she stood nearby. Because she often just stood instead of sitting when they were in private settings. More efficient for movement if something happened.

"This is poor engineering," she decided, looking critically at the hammock.

John Connor has posed:
"Oh?" He asked, bemused by her critical examination of the hammock. "Why don't you climb in, see for yourself. It's pretty comfortable. And there's plenty of room." He practically could doze off right there and then after such a long, hard day of physical toiling. He was wearing beige shorts, something he now regretted, as he had a number of marks across his legs from the day's efforts. He had worn jeans yesterday, but it was too hot, so today he went with shorts. Above that, he had on a burgundy red t-shirt that said 'Empire' with an image of Darth Vader above it. He had yet to explain his thoughts on the Empire in Star Wars to Cameron. It would likely cause her to short circuit.

Cameron has posed:
It was probably better not to mention it ever. Cameron had enough to process dealing with the real world.

"No, thank you." Ever polite. "Due to the way it is designed, it would require rolling off the side or up-ending to have any sort of speedy exit. This would limit my reaction times to a threat. I will stand."

For her, she doesn't worry about comfort. Though she played the role as needed but they were in their own yard and no witnesses. No reason to pretend.

John Connor has posed:
They were in their own yard, but the neighbors could still see into the backyard. They had elevated the fence to exactly the legal limit, down to the millimetre, and added additional posts, to strengthen it. They had also planted strategic trees and other natural barriers, but it wasn't perfect. It was just optimal given the confines of the backyard layout, what was underground, and the surrounding architecture.

But he wasn't going to win that argument, or any argument with Cameron. He even asked her, politely, "hmm, have I ever actually won an argument with you?" Not that this was volatile or anything. He said it with a smile as he climbed out of the hammock, acceding to her security concerns. "Perhaps we should go inside then?" If that was to be better for his protection. Such was his life. He never really got to have any fun.

Cameron has posed:
"We have never argued. Arguing involves emotional responses to situations. We have disagreed at times." Cameron points out. She considers as he starts to get out of the hammock. "Perhaps you have argued. I have discussed." There, she was ceding his point.

"If you wish to enjoy the comfort of the hammock, you should continue to do so. I can protect you while you rest."

John Connor has posed:
Shaking his head and chuckling softly, "no, it's okay, besides, it feels a bit weird with you on guard duty like that, just standing while I relax. Besides, what would a neighor say if they looked out their window and saw you just standing there for an hour or more." He really did have a lot to teach her about humans. "You can protect me inside better, right? It's safer, isn't it?"

Cameron has posed:
Now she is looking away, off toward the neighbor's house. If they were on their second story, they could look right into the Connors' back yard. "So I should be on the hammock. Or sitting."

She suddenly is in motion and rolls into the hammock as though she's sat in one before. Which she has not. No flailing and falling about like most people do the first time they sit. "Sit."

John Connor has posed:
She was a funny one, to be sure. And she always made him laugh, sometimes deliberately, sometimes not, but she was amusing to be around no matter what. He wasn't too sure about her instructions, but took them literally, and sat down on a nearby rock, while she enjoyed the hammock. This way he could get up far quicker and easier than if he were in the hammock with her, as she had mentioned being a concern. "You got into that pretty well. Most people have trouble their first time. Or does the Resistance have its own hammock in the future?"

Cameron has posed:
"Hammocks are a common sleeping choice for the Resistance," Cameron admits. "It allows for more people in a space since they can be stacked vertically. But I do not sleep so did not use them. However, simple analysis shows the level of resistance--or lack thereof--from the hammock. Take into account the weight of the person going into it, the sway of the material. It is easy enough to caculate to be able to get in without falling."

John Connor has posed:
"That makes sense. They are an efficient use of space, and future John should think as I do, and hammocks are pretty comfortable, once you get used to them. Probably some issues with back problems down the road, not that?" yeah, he was thinking about how people with him likely didn't have long life expectancies." That soured him a little. The joy in his body language had largely gone, though, despite her being a machine, he immediately put on a brave face, the kind that most people wouldn't be able to pierce through. She was not most people. "Come on, let's go inside. We can watch something on Netflix, do homework, or something."
