Putting the New in the New York Public Library
Date of Scene: 27 May 2021
Location: New York Public Library, Manhattan
Synopsis: The grand opening of the Tony Stark Historical Hall of Heroes in the New York Public Library goes off without a hitch. Monkey jokes ensue. Nothing goes boom.
Cast of Characters: Slipstream, Mon-El, Nightingale, Captain America, Winter Soldier, Sentinel (Dallas), Iron Man

Slipstream has posed:
The crowds have gathered out front of the New York Public Library to reveal the unveiling of a new chapter in this historical and proud landmark of the city. From a gracious donation that was sent to the city several months ago, construction was finally completed a few weeks ago on a new historical wing! This particular wing is dedicated to the heroes of New York City, or at least those that are considered to be 'heroic' by the public. The Avengers are featured heavily, as well as the original Defenders from the Golden Age, and a couple of solo heroes that have long passed on in life The Grey Ghost, being one of them. There are old uniforms long retired, weapons, and even a few vehicles. One hallway is filled with heroic paintings memoralizing specific events, and there is even a wing filled with historical books on such broad and heroic topics.

The Mayor is out front with an oversized pair of scissors standing in front of a red ribbon in front of the double glass doors that lead into the new structure built into the library. As he speaks into a cluster of microphones with the media present and cameras aimed upon him, he crows on and on about how incredible Stark Industries is to have donated such a sizeable amount and to thank those who put on cape and costume day in and day out and put their lives on the line for the citizens of not only New York, but often times the world.

Drake Winters is one of those Avengers assigned to 'duty'. Though he is not going to be featured as an iconic hero by any means, he still has to ensure that the community is safe. He had done a quick round of 'recon' around the building and a few blocks out, as well as inspecting a number of rooftops via his powers. As he comes out of one last blue 'blurred' portal, he brushes himself off a few times, wearing a pair of jeans, a solid black shirt and his Avenger's bomberjacket. On the comms he quietly clears his throat. "Five mile radius is assumedly secured Cap. Hopefully this goes smooth. I'll take point at the South near the stage for Tony's big moment."

Mon-El has posed:
As Drake prepares to take off toward the station near the stage he'd just volunteered for, he finds a hand on his shoulder from behind, preventing him from moving. But before he can panic or anything, he'll see that it's Lar, wearing casual clothing for today's event.

The Daxamite smirks. "Hey now, who said you could use -our- flight ring to do Avengers business? But you never were one to read the fine print, were you?" A chuckle. "Just kidding. It's good to see you, Drake." Hey, he's -trying- with the loosening up thing.

Nightingale has posed:
With classes by and large winding down for the summer, Shannon takes advantage of the lull to venture forth from the walls of the X-mansion to the event at the Library. It was a chance to get out and about and hey, who knew who'd actually show up! Dressed in some comfy, wide-legged stonewashed blue jeans, soft but sturdy black boots, and a vintage-inspired long, cream cotton tunic with loose, long sleeves and fanciful floral embroidery at the scoop neckline, hem, and cuffs, she's at least comfortable in the warm weather. Her wings are in plain view, albeit tucked flat against her back. Her hair's pulled back in a ponytail, and as always she carries with her that well-worn, well-loved brown leather bag tied to her belt.

It was a beautiful day, and nothing could spoil her mood. Surely everything would go well, for once, right? Right!

Captain America has posed:
Captain America did not seek the spotlight, but they had been on him, practically from the moment he received the Super-Soldier serum. There was that brief respite, where he was buried in the ice, but ever since he thawed out, it has again been thrust upon him.

He was in uniform, even though this did not call for action, helmet on, shield strapped to his back, and looking very much the part of a monkey in a suit. He hated these kinds of public displays, not that anyone in the crowd would ever know it. He would smile when asked, wave when appropriate, and remain quiet the rest of the time.

As old as he was, a scant few of his friends from the War survived to this day. It was getting nigh on a hundred years. People didn't live that long unless they were a Human-Atlantean hybrid like the Sub-Mariner, a periodically frozen former Russo-Soviet agent like the Winter Soldier, a de-aged British superhero like Spitfire, or any of the others that had managed to survive into the present.

But this was more than just a dedication. A contingent of the Avengers were on hand. They would be augmenting security. They might as well. They were here, there were dignitaries, and the New York Public Library was a landmark that bore protection at all times. For now, Captain America stood on the temporary stage, hands folded neatly in front of him, looking at the speaker.

Winter Soldier has posed:
One of those scant few, James isn't here in an official capacity. He's not one of those Avenger types, he's just Avenger adjacent thanks to Steve. He's not here because of duty or because it's part of his job. He's here because he kind of, sort of, sometimes, maybe, the second Tuesday of each week, genuinely tolerates Tony. His circle of friends is small and he does consider Stark one, most days. So he's here to make sure no one that means to harm his friends manages to do so.
...and let's not forget that Steve's here, sharing the spotlight.
He's found himself a rooftop with a good vantage point to see everything. It's also a good vantage point from which to shoot everything if the shooting becomes a necessity. A rifle with a high power, high tech scope will hopefully ensure that if there's a need for shooting, only Bad Guys will get shot. Unfortunately, he's a lone-wolf on this one. He didn't even tell Steve he'd be here. Drake, however, may have seen him on a roof pass.

Sentinel (Dallas) has posed:
Set your watch to the "Way-Back" setting and imagine if you will, the Phantom Lady. a Sexy and sensational seductress of days gone past. A deep blue top clasps at the throat then plunges all the way to her gold belt. a Rich red cape flows in an otherwise unfelt breeze. The shortest of blue skirts teases the tops of her thighs. Short ankle boots sport unreasonably tall heels. Everything else, her arms, her legs, her back are all completely bare. ... Now imagine it on a capuchin monkey. Austin shakes his head slightly looking up at his friend. "I can't believe you wore that getup. He says amused. The monkey simply gives a haughty shrug and smiles, holding her autograph book before chriping at Austin hesitantly. "Yes I'm sure he'll sign if he has time. He's a busy guy you know.."

Iron Man has posed:
The one who isn't present, is the supposed man of the hour. Likely the one who made the donations enough to make this moment possible. To honor the heroes of before, the heroes of today and those of the future. Still, there's no sign of Tony. He's not among the crowd, he's not along side his fellow Avengers. He's just..no where. Not a single sign of the man of the hour, the honorary speaker, the man with the plan...

Well not until there's a sudden fly by over head, roaring across and then back around, that well known Mark VII suit of his a glint of red and gold as he does so. Then he's up, around, and coming in for a landing on the mock stage, right to the side of the mayor. His helmet scrambles back as it's supposed to so only his head is revealed while the suit stays in tact and he grins. Once the Mayor steps to the side, because Tony's been asked to speak words, he steps up to the mic with a grin. "This thing on? Uh hi. It's an honor to be here, representing those who fight to keep New York safe from greater threats, and ah...we're happy to uphold truth, honor, the American way. All that jazz. So... enjoy the view. You're welcome for the money and...let's get on with it, shall we?" Stepping back then to sort of not quite stand by Captain America's side as people applaud. "Cap."

Slipstream has posed:
Nearly jumping at the feel of the strong hand upon his shoulder, Drake turns and looks up at Mon-El's taller frame. "Hey! Lar. You came to check out the big moment, huh?" He says as he gives him an amused grin, holding up his left hand to wiggle his fingers and to reveal the Legionnaire flight ring upon it. "It doesn't come off, so I figured you wouldn't mind if I use it once in awhile. Saves me a ton of gas driving around the city."

He keeps his head on a swivel as he watches, having took note of Bucky on the roof earlier and passed the info on to Cap and Tony. At least that way there won't be any surprises on their end. He leans in to bump his shoulder against Lar's, giving him a smile. "Hey, after this, guys are gonna get a few drinks if you want to come along and I can introduce you. I'm sure they'd love to meet future Superman from the year three thousand."

Reaching to his back, he taps Snowball on the head, his small gold recon bot as she detatches from the backpack holster and floats up and over. "Perimeter sweep, two hundred yards, Snowball. No engaging."

There's a 'doot' from the bot as 'she' floats off with a swirl of blue light beneath her thrusters.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar laughs good-naturedly. "Of course. It's no problem. I was just joking around. People keep telling me I need to loosen up."

He nods at Drake's question. "Yeah, I could always use more doses of Terran culture I guess."

"Sure, I'd be happy to join you for drinks." Even if they don't have any more effect on him than a cup of water or punch. "I...I'm not Kal, though." His eyes go up to the stage when Tony starts talking, listening to his quick little speech.

Nightingale has posed:
Trust Mr. Stark to keep a speech short, sweet, and on-point in such an off-handed way. Shannon just chuckles softly, clapping along with the rest when he finished speaking. At least he hadn't called her out this time, as with this Christmas past. That was something of a relief.

Glancing away from the stage for just a moment, her brows inch slowly upwards. Was that a monkey in a superhero costume? "Now I've seen it all," she mutters softly, shaking her head and allowing herself a wry smile. Only in New York could one see such a thing. She gives a little flick of her wings and settles them against her back again, shifting her weight slightly as she turns her attention back towards the stage.

Captain America has posed:
Following after Tony Stark was a tough act. The man all flash and flash sold so well, that The Flash had his own Museum. Still, Captain America would try. He calmly strode towards the podium, raising the microphone so that it could accommodate his height, and he would begin by addressing the dignitaries. "To Mayor Fuleihan and Mrs. Fuleihan;" the Mayor of the New York and his wife, "to President Marx and Mrs. Marx;" the president and CEO of the New York Public Library, "to Mr. Stark," there was no Mrs. Stark, although there were a great many who seemed to want the job, "to all the distinguished guests here today: I am honoured to be with you to mark this historic occasion."

"Visiting the library was a ritual for my family. On Monday nights, we had a standing date here. Other times, Mom waited patiently as my brother Michael and I, chose our books. For me, our beautiful library is the beating heart of the city. The stories, the poetry, the music, and the neighors found here are the nourishment for the soul. A library's contents have healing power, and can transform a person's perspective - no matter where one resides. Again, a deep-felt thank you to Mr. Stark, and beyond, for the kindness you have to the people of New York. My mother would have loved to be here today. Thank you."

Winter Soldier has posed:
From his vantage point, James might not be able to hear everything that's going on down there. Or he wouldn't if it weren't for the parabolic type microphone he has set up on that roof with him. But sounds are background noise unless someone starts screaming. He's more concerned with scanning the crowd and the surrounding rooftops with his scope, trained eye on the lookout for anything or anyone suspicious or out of the ordinary. He's so caught up in keeping that one eye on things that he doesn't even take notice of the pigeon that just flew over and pooped on his back.

Sentinel (Dallas) has posed:
"Hey look Tina, a girl with wings. Only in New York, huh?" Tina shushes him, sighing dreamily as Captain America takes the podium and starts to speak. His primate friend apparently otherwise engaged, he shifts and moves through the crowd a bit to get closer to shannon, whispering softly "Some shindig huh?"

Iron Man has posed:
Tony Stark would clap, but that's a lot of metal against metal and he'd scuff his suit. Or that's the excuse he says inside his head. There's a smile and a nod each time Steve mentions him or thanks him and then it seems the captain's done with his speech. Not so short, but simple enough it would seem. At this point it was all up to the Mayor perhaps to say a few more words, cut the ribbon and they'd be all good. All in all, a decent moment. A peaceful moment. Some might even think a little too peaceful.

Slipstream has posed:
As the crowd erupts in applause at Captain America's words, it is obvious that he is a crowd favorite here in New York. He is the stars and stripes. He is the icon. He is the American Dream. While most heroes may be revered and idol worshipped, Captain America is on another level and everyone was dead quiet up until his last word. That's the effect he has.

Even Drake watches with baited breath as he listens. He may be a teammate now, but when Steve speaks, you drop everything in life and you listen. "Wow." He breathes out to Lar as he glances up at his best friend. "I would subscribe to that podcast. Just listen to inspirational speeches by the man himself. Anyways, good to hear you're loosening up." He says with a grin.

Tapping his communicator bracelet to re-summon Snowball back to him, he reaches out with his hands to grab her, then once more locks her into his holster. The Mayor takes the stage once more to announce the ribbon cutting, then with the help of one of the city councilmen, they snip the large red bow as it falls to applause.

"I now present to you, the Tony Stark Historical Hall of Heroes!"

The crowd erupts once more in applause, then the VIP's are the first ones in as well as select members of the media.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar stands near Drake, listening to Captain America speak. He had certainly heard of the man, after all it seems that many Terrans held him in very high regard. Probably not without good reason. He applauds with everyone else, then watches as they cut the red tape.

"Well, I'm trying to, anyway." he replies to Drake. "What's a podcast?" Honest question. But Drake is used to this.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon is as caught up in Cap's speech as anybody else there. For all she never really fangirled around him, one thing was for sure--the man was deserving of respect, and one's undivided attention. When he stepped back from the mic, she applauded along with everyone else, smiling wide.

Austin's approach catches her attention, the winged teen turning her pale azure gaze upon him, and smiling. Nodding, she replies, almost sotto voce, "No kidding. Glad I was able to take a break from studying for this." Lifting her chin towards the monkey on his shoulder, she murmurs, "Nice costume."

Captain America has posed:
Not having the time to prepare a speech, as his invitation mysteriously came rather late, hand delivered by one of Tony Stark's drones, if you can call that 'hand delivered'. Captain America did his best to wing it. Sometimes he wondered if Tony did these kinds of things on purpose, other times, he felt it was because Tony had so many things going on that he honestly just forgot. Try as he may, Captain America was unable to decide which was worse.

Moving back to his place alongside Tony and the other dignitaries, he would listen to the Mayor doing the actual unveiling and ribbon cutting. Privately, he knew he could have, and should have done better, but at least everyone seemed to think it was okay. After hearing the name, he gave Tony a sideways glance, but said nothing. The glance was enough. Someday, one of those lessons on discretion being the better part of valor would sink in. But it was not this day.

Winter Soldier has posed:
When everyone starts to head inside, James takes one more sweep of the crowd via that scope before he breaks down the rifle and tucks it away in its case to stash it under the ledge of the roof. He'll pick that up later. He pushes himself up from his previously prone position and damned if he doesn't look quite dapper in his white dress shirt, grey linen slacks and spiffy shiny dress shoes. Just don't pay any mind to the pigeon shit on the back of his otherwise neatly cleaned and pressed sport coat. His hair's even pulled back at the nape of his neck.
He takes the shortcut down, that is to say he leaps from the roof into an alleyway below, knees bending to absorb the impact. A smile and a wave is all he'll offer to anyone that happens to be around. In an incredibly short amount of time, considering his previous position, James is part of the crowd waiting to go inside. At least Stark... and Steve, of course Steve, aren't difficult to keep an eye on considering their current garb.

Sentinel (Dallas) has posed:
Tina chirps at Shannons praise going into a rather lengthy explanation of researching the Phantom Lady in old news clippings, painstakingly working with a mutual friend of her's and Austin's to cut and stich the fabric. The hours of work involved and how much she appreciated the recognition. Of course you'd have to speak monkey to understand any of that. Austin just shakes his head, "Yeah i think she ordered it off amazon, I swear I'm going to restrict her online privileges. So this is Tina, and I'm Austin. Austin Dallas. and before you ask, yes I know those are both cities in Texas, and yes so did my parents when they named me." He says with a grin. As the masses start inside he asks Shannon, "Think there is any chance we can meet them? If Tina doesn't get Captain America's autograph she might have kittens.

Iron Man has posed:
The biggest problem for Steve to figure out is *when* Tony is just being Tony about Cap giving speeches, and when Tony simply forgets. It could be either or, but it will never be neither. Such is the way with Stark, and people just have to get used to that.

As the crowd shuffles into the library, Tony lifts a hand and pats Steve on the shoulder. "Fine words, Cap. As always. You do really good at these last minute speech requests." Then he grins. Maybe /thats/ an answer to which of the two choices it was this time. Then Tony's looking around a little. "Anyone see a teenage kid about this high," indicated with his hand, "little robot on his backpack. Darts around like a kid version of Flash?" Winters, your boss is looking for you. Maybe. Maybe he's talking about someone else. Who knows!

Slipstream has posed:
His Door Dash sense is tingling. Drake gives a smile to Lar as he motions him on to head up the stairs. "Podcasts are just recorded speeches that you can listen to on your phone, or music player. I'll show you later." He says as he gives a tug of his bomber jacket a few times to straighten out the fabric. "Come on, time to introduce you to some legends."

Once he reaches the top of the stage and heads towards his teammates, he gives a smile to Tony and Steve. "Hey guys. I want to introduce you both to Mon-El, but he goes by Lar. He's a Daxamite from the future and team leader for the Legion of Superheroes. I got to go on many adventures in space with him and fought aliens and saved planets .. well .. he saved planets, I mostly just .. got space coffee."

He's a niche hero.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar listens to the explanation. "Oh, well that's a strange word for a recorded speech." he remarks. "It sounds like throwing away a supply pod or escape pod or something." Cast...away? "Just wasn't sure where the 'cast' part was supposed to be casted to."

He follows Drake up to the stage, and nods politely when he is introduced. "I think I met Mr. Stark before." he says, looking toward Iron Man. "Don't worry, I don't think Gigas will be troubling us any more." he adds, meaning the giant purple bounty hunter who had previously caused a bit of a ruckus earlier.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon chortles softly, nodding here and there through Tina's 'explanation' and pretending to understand. "Well, a remarkable job on the costume, miss Tina. And a pleasure to meet you, Austin. Shannon Lance." She holds out her hand and smiles, her wings flaring out just a tiny bit behind her. "I guess all we can do is hope and try to meet them, pretty much like anyone else. Think you'll like Cap if you ever get to meet the man. He's about as kind a soul as you'd ever want to know. And don't let Mr. Stark fool you, he's not too bad for the most part, either."

Captain America has posed:
"Thanks Tony," Captain America says, as he and the others begin to file into the new Hall of Heroes, correction, the Tony Stark Historical Hall of Heroes, "I have a lot of practice." The way he said that, it could be read multiple ways. To an outside observer, it would be a modest deflection, that he has been doing that a while, but to someone who knows him well, Cap was being slyly cynical, giving Tony a verbal jibe. It could go over most people's heads, and that was the way Cap liked it. He never liked to escalate things, but he always stood up for himself.

At the description of the teenager, Steve would immediately begin scanning the crowd for someone who met it. He wasn't sure what brought it on, or if this was part of another stunt, but for now, he was taking it at face value. Tony was looking for someone.

It would seem the teenager was SlipStream, as opposed to Slipstream. There were so many heroes these days that spelling deviations were required. An arm was eagerly extended towards Mon-El at the introduction, "Captain America, pleased to meet you Mon-El. Welcome to Earth and the twenty-first century." Steve was guessing on the Earth part, but seeing as he had never heard of a Daxamite, and the Legion of Super-Heroes were galactic, he took an educated guess.

Winter Soldier has posed:
Even dressed to impress like he is, James is still an intimidating figure. It's those eyes and the intensity of his stare more than it has anything to do with his size. People find themselves just moving out of the way without even realizing they're doing so as the former Winter Soldier sets off their 'dangerdanger' radars while he makes his way through the crowd. He makes his way to within a few people deep from Steve and Tony and then, well, he's right there beside the former. He slips right into place as if he's someone that didn't arrive late to the party, he's been there THE ENTIRE TIME.

Sentinel (Dallas) has posed:
Austin Dallas smiles a bit letting Shannon lead the way, "that kinda comes across you know? I mean I've never even heard of anyone saying a bad thing about him. Like that would be spitting on the flag itself." He smiles a bit as Tina shifts excitedly, straightening the fabric of her costume to it's best fit. Austin smiles a bit, "So you're like an Avenger too?" he asks curiously, since she is apparently on intimate terms with them.

Iron Man has posed:
Tony Stark reaches a hand out to Mon-El and gives a smile. "Lar, pleasure to see you again. I'm glad you got things taken care of." He offers this and then gives a smirk to Drake. "You got everything taken care of for the rest of the night? I mean I figured you and your friend'll come inside, but there wasn't anything out of the ordinary..." He gestures like he's including the whole outside area. Something wasn't settling right in Tony's mind. About this time someone like Loki or Insert Enemy Here would show up and throw down - but nothing's happened as of yet. "Also, you got enough money for tonight?" Does Stark know about plans? Maybe. Maybe not. He's at least going to cover all bases.

The snark remark from Cap just gains a grin and a shrug. Then he looks over to Bucky, giving the Winter Soldier a smile. "Bucky. How's the arm holding up?"

Slipstream has posed:
"No, sir, everything is fine. I found the Winter Soldier on a rooftop with a sniper rifle but I believe he was just taking an aerie's nest to ensure there was nothing going on. Nice to see Shield taking this seriously." Drake says as he gives a quick salute to Steve and Tony across the brow. He gives a glance over towards Lar, then back to the others with a smile. "Lar is a huge deal in the future. He's kind of like Superman a thousand years ahead. He's new to Earth and still learning customs."

As he grins at his best friend, he bumps his shoulder again, then looks over towards Bucky as he joins them. "Ah, there he is. Just like magic. I'm going to check out some of the stuff inside. I always wanted to see The Grey Ghost's original uniform. My dad loved that guy."

Mon-El has posed:
"Thanks." Lar nods to Captain America, giving his hand a firm shake in return. "I've heard a lot of things about you, all of them good. It seems you've gained the respect of the entire planet for the most part."

"Yeah, I actually non-violently convinced him to leave me alone. For now, anyway." he chuckles a little. "Surprising, right? Heh, nah, he's actually a pretty reasonable guy, if you get to know him."

He shrugs at Drake's comment. "I guess so. I can do a lot of the same things as Superman. But I'm not him, that part's certain."

He glances at Bucky as the man suddenly joins them. "Friend of yours?" he asks. He...couldn't help noticing the bird poop on Bucky's back, because you know, enhanced senses and all. However he hesitates to mention it at the moment.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon just looks at Austin for a moment, one brow lofting, and then the other. She shakes her head and just starts chuckling, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Far from it. I'm just someone who's been incredibly lucky to be able to meet them a few times. About the only uniform and mask I'll probably ever wear is scrubs and a surgical face mask." She looks up and smiles a bit more, shrugging. "Going to be sitting for my EMT exam in July, and I hope to finish out my third single by then, too."

As she's making her way through the crowd with Austin, she hooks her thumbs in her pockets, glancing over at him. "So how did you and Tina meet? She's quite something."

Captain America has posed:
Captain America and Bucky go together like... actually, things go together like Captain America and Bucky. They've been setting the example for decades, although there was a brief postponement on account of rain. When Bucky slides up beside Captain America, there was a nod of acknowledgement, but that was it. As far as Steve Rogers was concerned, it was as if Bucky had been at his side the entire time. He did notice the jacket issue, and would at an appropriate time, lean over to whisper in Bucky's ear, "Buck, you got something on your jacket shoulder. Might want to remove it, or clean it up in the bathroom."

Captain America's role with the military was complicated, but when someone saluted him, he instinctively returned it, as he did with Drake Winters. At the remark that Lar, or Mon-El, Captain America wasn't entirely sure what was the real name, and what was the codename, or nickname, but at the remark about learning customs, Captain America said, "I know the feeling. It can be difficult to integrate, but it is well worth the effort."

"Thank you, I do my best. It's all anyone can do." Captain America said in response to Lar's kind words, trying to play them down. And with Lar not knowing Bucky, Captain America make the introductions, "Mon-El, Sergeant Bucky Barnes," giving his friend full military honors.

Winter Soldier has posed:
James extends the middle finger of his left hand for Tony's benefit. "Well, I can still do this," he deadpans without ever losing that furrowed brow scowl of his. Is he trying to make a joke? Or is the the first Tuesday of the week when he really doesn't tolerate Tony well? The fact that he answered at all with more than a grunt likely indicates the former.
It would be nice if SHIELD even knew James was here?
All this public pleasing pomp and circumstance really is NOT his thing, but it's Steve's so James'll tolerate it. Because, you know, they go together like... they go together. That nod of acknowledgement is met with nothing more than a slight curl of one corner of his lips upward in a half smile. But his brow furrows again and that half smile fades at those whispered words. He strains his neck to look at one shoulder and then the other and mutters, "Damned pigeons." Wait, what's that? It registers a few seconds late that he's being introduced to someone because he's busy shrugging off his jacket. He does, eventually, remember his manners and extends a hand. "Uh... Hello."

Sentinel (Dallas) has posed:
As always, Tina preens with just the smallest bit of attention and she smiles warmly at Shannon, who obviously has good taste...for a human. Austin grins slightly "Friend of ours. It was originally only supposed to be for a few dayus, but by the time other arrangements had been made Tina decided she'd rather keep me." He says offering his friend his fist, which the monkey grins and bumps. "She's very intelligent, she just can't talk. doesn't have the right sort of vocal cords for speech. We considered sign language but..." At this Tina raises her fist to her forhead, pinkie out an extended. "We stopped that pretty early on." He looks like he's going to say more when his phone starts ringing. Tina looks annoyed at this but when he says "Speaking of Mindy..." He answers and a few seconds later says, "No, we'll be right over..." Tina just sighs putting her autograph book in her purse, looking resigned to not getting Cap's autograph after all. "Sorry about this, but I have to go... nice meeting you Shannon." he says with a smile.

Iron Man has posed:
Tony Stark tilts his head and then smirks, turning and heading off and into the library. Since things are winding down. He'll touch base with people later, unless he slips out into the night unbeknownst to most.

Slipstream has posed:
As he catches a motion of Tony's hand, Drake straightens up and starts off after him quickly. "I'll catch you guys later! Lar, let's do lunch tomorrow." He calls over his shoulder as he blinks forward in a burst of blue light, then appears next to Tony to stride along his side as they engage in quiet conversation. Yes, two coffees. Meatball hoagie and chips. On it! And thus, such is life for the youngest Avenger.

Mon-El has posed:
"You can call me Lar. Mon-El is just a...moniker that stuck, I guess." It was a bit complicated. Lar is inwardly relieved that Captain America totally just took care of the bird poop dilemma for him, though. That probably would have been awkward. He arches a brow at Cap relating to the whole alien thing. But isn't he Terran? "Do you? But didn't you grow up here?" And when he says 'here', he means here on this planet.

A toward Bucky. "Nice to meet you, Sergeant Barnes."

As Drake takes his leave, he nods and smiles after him. "Lunch it is. See you later."

Nightingale has posed:
"Do I even want to know what Tina just signed?" Shannon asks, trying--and failing--to hide her smile behind her hand. Her eyes twinkle with mirth, and she chuckles softly, shaking her head at Tina. "Don't know what you said there, but I'm guessing it probably wasn't polite. You really want Captain America to see you saying things like that?"

Her suspicion as to the nature of Tina's sign language commentary is only confirmed, as Austin admits to that avenue of communication being closed off. But just as she's about to ask him more about the story of how he came to have a monkey with him, that phone call comes in. "Well, heck. Pleasure meeting you, too. Be safe, m'kay?"

And so she gets moved along with the rest of the crowd. Thankfully, at least this time there were no anti-mutant shenanigans. Though, as she is pushed and pulled along near Cap's position, she gives a jaunty two-fingered salute, a la Skywalker, smiling.

Captain America has posed:
The public pleasing pomp and circumstance was definitely not Steve's thing, but when asked, he would serve. And he would do it to the best of his ability. To Lar, he explained, "I was on ice for 75 years. A lot changed in that time. I still have a lot of catching up to do." Captain America tried to have time for everyone, and he was quite observant. Like the red notebook with the glossy cover that said 'AUTOGRAPHS' on it being put into a purse. He would say, "excuse me," and make his way to Austin and Shannon, asking, "hello, I don't mean to intrude, but if you would like an autograph, I'm afraid you missed Iron Man, but there are a few people still here. And if you give me an address, I can see what I can do about getting Tony's for you."

Winter Soldier has posed:
"James, James is fine," is aimed at Mon-El. He watches Steve go about doing that thing he does and what is that? An actual smile that includes both sides of his mouth? It only lasts a second or two, but it was definitely there. "So, what is all of this anyway?" he asks of anyone that happens to be listening along with a sweep of his hand in the direction of 'all this'. He honestly has no clue other than the whole 'Steve and Stark were speaking' part.

Sentinel (Dallas) has posed:
Have you ever seen a monkey go full fan girl? Tina stands there mouth agape for a few seconds then is scrambling to dig her autograph book back out of her purse. She does this then is searching frantically for her pen with frantic intensity. At least till Austin hands her one. The tiny monkey chittering rapidly and happily as she nearly forces the book at poor Cap before staring longingly at the poor man. She then holds one hand palm up fingers curled slightly upwards, and clasps that hand with the other palm down. This causes Austin to chuckle slightly and say, "Umm, she asked you to marry her... sir." He says amused. "She's kinda a fan."

Mon-El has posed:
"On ice? You were in cryo-stasis? Why?" Lar asks, curious. Well, it was true that technology on Earth did change a lot around this time in history. Well, history to him? Time is a confusing thing. So anyway 75 Earth years could have been a lot in terms of that sort of thing.

"Right, James." he says, nodding politely. "Uh, I think Mr. Stark donated money to make a new historical wing possible at this library." he explains to Bucky's question. When Austin and Shannon and Tina approach, he looks over to them as well. "Heh, marriage is the last thing you'd want to rush into." he remarks at Austin's comment.

Captain America has posed:
Captain America has had this reaction from people in the past, so he knows that the best way to deal with it is to go slow, be patient, and wait for them to calm down, as he does now. He would accept the book, and the pen, asking who he should make it out to, and then sign it, 'Tina, in your golden chain of friendship, consider me a link. Steve Rogers.' His identity was known, he never signed it Captain America. He was Steve Rogers. Captain America was just a suit he wore. With the way the groups were, Captain America served as a link, close enough to reply to Mon-El, "I was buried in the arctic during the war. They found and thawed me out seventy-five years later." Then he would ask Tina, "would you like Mon-El and the Winter Soldier to sign as well?" He would then introduce them, by code and given name, since both were public about their identities too.

Nightingale has posed:
Mon-El's face was completely unfamiliar to her, so Shannon offers him a polite smile and a nod. At least, before the mini-primate's proposal of wedded bliss to the good Captain, that is! She can only facepalm, shaking her head. "Just no monkey business here, okay?"

Standing back, she smiles warmly at the way Tina finally had her dream come true--at least in some form. As she takes a moment to preen her feathers, she grins at Austin. "Told you, didn't I? One of the kindest souls you could ever want to meet."

Her brows loft as she sees Bucky, and offers him a smile and a nod as well. "Wow, seems like just about everyone's showing up. How is everyone?" she asks, encompassing Captain America with the question as well.

Winter Soldier has posed:
The current conversation takes a definite turn toward the uncomfortable for James. Cryo-statis, not his favorite topic. He snorts a breath that causes his nostrils to flare slightly and runs a gloved hand over his face before dropping that hand to his side. He touches his fingertips to his thumb one at a time, rhythmically, and again. Distraction comes in the form of a monkey proposing to Steve. His eyebrows shoot way way up, blue eyes wide and... he can't help it, he barks out a laugh that he tries to cover by following it up with a very fake cough.
Shannon, not helping! STOP! He chokes back another fit of laughter and it causes a few very real coughs before he recovers and croaks out, "Good, I'm good... swallowed wrong."

Sentinel (Dallas) has posed:
Austin Dallas just grins as Tina takes the book back, then shows it to him and he reads the inscription out loud. She hasn't quite mastered reading yet. Once he does however the monkey offers a chittering squeal of joy, leaps over onto Steve's shoulder and gives his neck a quick hug before leaping back to Austin. When Cap asks if she wants the other men to sign she holds out her book again eagerly with a large happy smile but Austin coughs. "Mindy is waiting for us Tina, we've gotta go. Sighing the monkey waves goodbye to them all, (Cap in particular,) as Austin offers a smile and respectful salute and heads away. "It would never work between you two. For one thing he's human and you are a capuchin." Tina then signs something back, that if anyone understands ASL translates roughly to "I would never hold that agienst him!"

Mon-El has posed:
The war. 75 years. Right, he must mean what the Terrans of this day call World War II. Then James starts laughing then awkwardly trying to cover it up with a cough that doesn't quite go so well. Lar arches a brow at him, then chuckles slightly himself. "You two must have known each other for a while." he remarks.

He waves goodbye to Austin, then looks over at Shannon. "Sorry, I didn't get your name?"

Captain America has posed:
Captain America didn't flinch when the monkey climbed onto him, or went back to Austin. He was as good with animals as he was good with people. He did smile at the suggestion that it wouldn't work between him and the capuchin. He didn't want to laugh, because that might be taken as offensive. Though sensing Bucky's discomfort, he was about to do his best to steer the conversation to another matter, but then Mon-El seemed to focus on Austin and Shannon, and things worked out for the best. Soon, he would be pulled aside by Mayor Dean Fuleihan, and have to excuse himself, dealing with whatever it was that the mayor wanted of him. The problem with being a national icon is that everyone wanted his time. If it were up to him, he would be somewhere quiet and open, like the park.

Nightingale has posed:
Smiling warmly at Mon-El, Shannon offers him her hand. "Shannon Lance. Pleasure to meet you, though I didn't quite catch your name?" As she was about to say something to Cap, he is pulled away by something else needing his attention, leaving her to smile, bemused. As Bucky coughs, she frowns a little bit, reaching over to give him a good pat on the back. "You okay?" she asked, lines appearing between her brows, and concern registering in her expression.

Winter Soldier has posed:
"Shoulda went for it Steven," James begins as Steve walks away. Don't do it, Bucky, don't do it. "...might do you good to spank..." Really Bucky, don't do it... "...someone else's monkey." He did it. He manages to not bust a gut with laughter, but he is smiling. He's really and genuinely smiling a smile that actually makes the corners of his eyes crinkle. He has a nice smile, damned shame he doesn't let it out more often. He really doesn't look much older than he did when he enlisted, but that smile take years off the shadows in his eyes.
"Yeah, for awhile," James comments vaguely in reply to Mon-El. He gives a double thumbs up to Shannon. "I'm good." Then he's following along with Steve, quiet and off to the side, but there. Kinda like always, just there to the end of the line or something like that.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar nods as Steve and Bucky take their leave. Whatever joke James thinks is so hilarious has gone completely over his head. He'll have to ask Drake about it later. Or look it up on the net or something. "It was good to meet you both." he says politely. Then it seems it's just he and Shannon left. He extends a hand for a shake. "Lar Gand. Nice to meet you, Ms. Lance. You from around here?"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon's grip is firm but gentle, with slight callousing of the fingertips betokening perhaps some familiarity with stringed instruments. "Originally from Connecticut. Came to the area a couple years ago and haven't looked back since. What about you, are you from around here?" She smiles somewhat, ruffling her wings and dipping her head. "Though when you say Ms. Lance, I expect to see my mother somewhere. Please, it's just Shannon."

Mon-El has posed:
"Shannon it is." Lar says, with a polite smile as he shakes her hand briefly. "Connecticut, huh? Close enough." In terms of the entire galaxy, it really is.

He chuckles at her question. "No, I'm from Daxam, sector 2813. Though I guess I have spent a good amount of time on Earth, comparatively speaking."

Nightingale has posed:
The winged teen's brows loft briefly, and for a moment, there is a slight look of confusion upon her face. "I have absolutely no idea where that is," Shannon finally confesses, with something of a sheepish smile. "Only been off-world once or twice, and none of that sounds at all familiar. Maybe if you're willing, you could tell me a little bit about it on the way inside?" she suggests, gesturing towards the newly minted Heroes' Wing.

Mon-El has posed:
"Don't worry about it, most Terrans have never even been beyond the stratosphere." Lar replies, his tone friendly. "So if you've actually been off-world before, that's more than average I'm sure." He nods and follows her inside.
