Date of Scene: 10 June 2021
Location: Fred's Diner - Mutant Town
Synopsis: Jay is found lamenting a bit by Shannon and then they're joined by the older Guthrie brother, Sam. Plans are made to help Jay deal with his mental strife.
Cast of Characters: Icarus, Nightingale, Cannonball

Icarus has posed:
Just another day at the busy diner, and Jay Guthrie has himself tucked into a back corner booth. His guitar case is propped up next to his booth chair just in case, but for the moment, he's picking at a sandwich and fries like he's maybe hungry but his heart isn't in it. Really his heart isn't into anything these recent days. There's been a thought to reach out to someone, but then he figures it doesn't matter. Same song and dance - and no one likes to hear a broken record.

Nightingale has posed:
Every once in a while, it was nice to go out for a meal one didn't have to cook themselves. Such was the case when Shannon mosied on into the diner, in black leggings, black sneakers, and a long black t-shirt with a huge, hot pink sequined heart emblazoned on the front, dead center. Her hair is long and loose, save for a single thin braid on the left side of her face, dyed an improbable glacier blue just a shade or two deeper than her eyes, bearing three little silver beads on the end. Her wings are tucked flat against her back, a direct contrast to all the ebony fabric swathing her today.

One finely arched golden brow quirked upwards as she spied a rather familiar-looking guitar case, and its owner seated right nearby. Heading on over to the booth, she cleared her throat lightly. "Is this seat taken?"

Icarus has posed:
Jay Guthrie blinks after a moment, when he registers that someone is actually talking to him, glancing up at Shannon. "Oh. Uh, no... it's not. Please." He motions across from him and then reaches for his soda to take a drink. "Have ya ordered yet? You can add whatever ya want onto my ticket..." This offered before he looks back to his food and then he shifts back in his seat some. "You're lookin' well, Shannon. How're things goin' back at school?"

Nightingale has posed:
Smiling, Shannon slides into the booth across from Jay. "Thanks. Just, I never really got to talk to you a whole lot since you came to school, and even less after." It only takes a quick glance at the menu, for her to go for a diner classic--meatloaf and mashed potatoes, with a side of deep fried green beans. "Final exams got a little crazy, plus my healing gifts have been actually shifting for the better. Then there's my EMT certification exam next month, and finishing up writing my next single. It's a little crazy but at least summer's here."

Her brows furrow with concern, not at all blind to the rather lackluster state of Jay's fiery red wings, the way they are just sort of... there. Not much life to them, just... there. "How are you, though?" she asks, gently.

Icarus has posed:
"Ah, well that's good then. Least ya got some stuff to work on over the summer yeah?" Jay offers, trying to smile, but it's only half there. He picks at his food a bit more before pushing his plate away some. His burger is only just eaten, and his fries are still a small pile. He likely looks thinner than he has in some months and there really is no life in him aside from the fact that he's breathing and has a heartbeat.

"Hmm? Me? M'fine. I guess..." He shrugs. "I mean... it ain't nothin' I can't get over. I guess." This much offered before he looks to the waitress and makes sure that what Shannon orders gets placed on his bill. "So long as I don't go walkin' into traffic or whatever, I think it's a good day."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie had a meeting he had to handle at the club. He comes walking into the dinner planning on getting something to eat there since Kitchen staff were not working at the club. He walks in and spotting the winnged table, his brow raises a bit but walks over towards them. He slides in next to Jay with a "Scoot." Yup big brother.

Nightingale has posed:
"It's the great Guthrie takeover!" Shannon quips, chuckling softly. Her look of concern, however, does not quite fade, as she looks straight at Sam, then flicks her gaze over towards Jay. "Yeah, no walking into traffic. Not an option. Nope." There's a bit of a pause, the younger winged one giving a little flick of her wings, snowy white as opposed to flame red. "If you want to get anything off your chest, we're here for you, Jay."

Icarus has posed:
"Hello to you too, Sam." Jay says before obliging his brother and scoots over. He brings his drink with him but his food stays where it was pushed to. A glance given to Shannon then as he shrugs his shoulders. "What's to say? I ain't cut out for a lot...and all I have left now is an empty apartment that's way too big for me, and my guitar." He lifts a hand to push through his locks of hair. "Don't surprise me in the least she left me..." A pause. "How're you doin', Sam?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie frowns a bit and says "You got a job at the club, and can play there when ever you want. A family thats going to watch after you." He reaches out and steals a fry from Jay's pushed away plate "And one less french fry." He offers his brother.

Nightingale has posed:
"You've got a job at the club. You've got your band. You've got one hella big family that loves you to pieces, even if some of us were kind of grafted onto the family tree. Heck, nobody could blame you if you wanted to get out of that apartment. But would you let us help you find a new one, if that's what you want to do?" Shannon snickers softly as Sam steals a fry from Jay's plate, reaching for a second and brandishing it like a miniature fencing foil at Sam. "En garde!"

Icarus has posed:
"I appreciate the job..and I dunno what m'gonna do cause the band was gonna sign with Andrea's label but...that's kinda in the shitter now." Jay muses a moment before turning his head to look out the window. "We were gonna sell the apartment... get a place down in...somewhere..." He waves a hand which almost knocks over his drink, but he manages to catch it. There's a hint of a smile as Shannon tries to fence with fries against Sam, but then he falls silent altogether and looks out the window once more.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie munches his fry and will take another and jokingly fences a moment, as he says "Well, Ah can make a few calls, your liable to at least get some offers just from playing at the club. You can always come back to the mansion for a while and Alexis and I have talked about getting a place, if you want a spare bedroom.

Nightingale has posed:
"Sam's got a point. I've kind of got to think how to keep things going, too. Don't know if music will be my life, but I'm not quite done making my mark yet. And if some of the folks back at school can have varied interests, there's no reason I can't, either." Shannon nods firmly, munching on her fried fencing foil and sending it on its way to its final resting place down her gullet. "I'll play at the club if you will, and we can both of us see what happens."

Icarus has posed:
Unfortunately, all this sudden talk about his life has got Jay backed into a corner...while literally being backed into a corner because his brother made him share his booth seat. He shakes his head after a moment. "I dunno. I should probably get home anyway..I need to.." What? Stare at the ceiling all night? Wonder where things went wrong? Figure out how to fix it all over again?

When Shannon pipes in, he glances to her once more. "Yeah... I'm sorry things went a bit tits up for you too, Shan." He offers. "I did get a message from Roberto...somethin' about a new label he's puttin' together? Did you get the same thing, Shan?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie chuckles a bit softly and says "While ah aint heard of that Ah aint suprised. He does own the club after all." He offers to them "We have been trying to be a place to get bands out there, it makes sense he would do that." He looks at Jay and says "You don't have to run off you know."

Nightingale has posed:
"Yeah, we'd kind of prefer you didn't just up and take off," Shannon adds, smiling softly. "I mean, how many brothers do you think we have?"

There's a bit of a pause, and she just facepalms at the silliness of the question, groaning. "Not a word from the peanut gallery. Just, not a word, with a family as big as the Guthries. How your Ma keeps y'all straight sometimes is beyond me." She giggles a little bit, just shaking her head, and glances back at Jay.

"Yeah, as a matter of fact, I did get a message. Haven't had a chance to meet with him since. I'll have to fire off a note to him and see what this thing's all about."

Icarus has posed:
Jay Guthrie glances to Sam after a moment. "You just gonna eat mah cold leftovers or you gonna order somethin' for yerself? I'm buyin...so if yer hungry, order somethin' and eat." He offers this much while taking up his drink for another sip. "Let him know m'interested too. We should meet him together..maybe come up with somethin' together too..." Then he sighs and looks up towards the ceiling. "I ain't goin' nowhere. I know you two wouldn't let me anyhow... it's probably for the best. I don't think I should be alone in that apartment, truth told. ...I couldn't promise I'd wake up the next day..." He has a history of self harm, of manic depression..so it's no wonder he's feeling such. It's likely a break through in itself that he's /saying/ something rather than keeping it a secret. Course that's likely only because of his current company. A small handful of those he can confide such things to.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over and does order a burger and a drink. He looks to Jay and says "You're crashing on the couch in my room tonight." He offers/tells his brother. "We can play some video games, Doug set me up a system with all the old games we played on the NES back home as well as newer stuff."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, slipping her phone from her pocket and firing off a quick message, her fingers dancing over the screen for a minute or two. "There, that's done. As for snacks, I could either order you two some pizza, or just make some from scratch. But if you want fried chicken, you're on your own." She laughs a little, shaking her head. "For the life of me, I can get close to the recipe Sam uses, but I can never get it to turn out quite as well as he can."

Icarus has posed:
Jay Guthrie isn't going to argue. He LOOKS like he might argue for a brief moment, but then he just doesn't. In fact, he gives a little smile. "I...that might be for the best. So long as you don't think anyone would mind me crashing on your couch back at the school." He says and then glances to Shannon. "You're only allowed ta order pizza or somethin' if you promise ta stay an' play a couple rounds with us. I'll kick yer butt at Mario Kart or somethin'..." Finally, he chuckles, and even reaches for a fry to munch on.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks between the two and says "For late night video games cold chicken might work, but warm is too greasy." He explains of the etiquette of eating and playing video games. "Pizza can work but you got to have plenty of paper towels.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon just stares blankly at Jay and Sam for a moment, looking completely dumbfounded. There's a shuffling and squeaking of her sneakers on the floor beneath the table for a moment, and she shakes her head. "Ummmm... is this a good time to mention I've never played Mario Kart? 'Cause there's gonna be pizza, so there's also a pretty good chance you're gonna be whoopin' my butt, too...."

Icarus has posed:
"Never played Mario Kart?" Jay asks and the nhe glances to Sam. "We gotta mend that fact, right? She's gotta play Mario Kart with us now." Then he looks back to Shannon. "Ever play any video games? Do ya got a favorite?" Asking this, and now that he's on a topic of interest, seems his appetites come back a bit as he pulls his plate closer and munches on more fries.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smirks a bit and says "We will have to start with the 64 version, and take her up to some of the more recent versions so she gets the full feel of things." He adds, and thanks the waitress as his iced tea is brought over.

Nightingale has posed:
"Mostly PC titles. Minecraft's my favorite, but I like things like The Sims 4, Plants Vs. Zombies, Star Wars Rebellion, things like that. Some retro console titles are fun, too. Classics like Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig-Dug, Centipede... and who does't love Super Mario Bros 3?" Shannon grins a little bit, listing off a few titles, and digging into her meatloaf and spuds when they arrive at the table. "You might kick my butt at Mario Kart, but I bet I could give you both a run for your money at Centipede."

Icarus has posed:
"Never could get into Minecraft to be honest... I just sit in creative mode building things all day." Jay offers with a chuckle and then listens. "Mmn.. Galaga I'll give you. Pac-Man maybe. We'll have ta see... depends on how long you can keep up with us Guthrie boys. We've been known to game all night." He smirks then, a genuine thing, before sipping at his drink. "Anyway...I appreciate ya both...sorry if I downed your day any..."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over to Jay and says "Hey your my kid brother, and I claimed Shannon when she came in, reminded me of Cissie" He comments on one of their younger sisters. "As for being down your allowed a bit of it, but if you keep it up, I'll dye your wings green or something while ya sleep."

Nightingale has posed:
"Naah. Pink. A nice, hot pink. Or purple. Or both." Shannon grins evilly at Sam, giggling like a little sibling plotting some mischief. "God, I can only imagine what you two were like growing up, especially around April Fool's Day. I bet that got a little crazy."

Icarus has posed:
"There will be NO dyin' my wings any other color..." Jay grumps and then shakes his head. "So..at least we have a bit of a plan for tonight.." He seems to think on something then. "I should probably go grab some clothes and such from the apartment though.."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "You want company while ya get them?" He offers

Nightingale has posed:
Nodding, Shannon adds, "'cause if you need or want the company, you have it." Jay's reaction to the threat of re-coloration of his wings has her giggling up a storm. Suddenly, her meal becomes -very- interesting, indeed, taking her full attention for as long as it takes to polish off about half of the slab of gravy-coverd meatloaf on her plate. "If you'd rather it was just Sam with you for that, I could go let miss Grey know the situation. Pretty sure she's not going to leave an alum in the lurch, that just doesn't seem like her at all."

Icarus has posed:
"I think company would be a good thing. Though you, Sam, should likely go get things set up at your room right? Even if it's just tossin' a few pillows and blankets onto the couch." Jay smirks. "But if y'all wanna come to the apartment I ain't gonna say no."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Well I'll let you two do the apartment then, that way I don't have to slow down my flying at least." He teases a bit to the two, and says "Plus I can finish my food before heading out.""
