A Walk in the Park... sort of
Date of Scene: 17 July 2021
Location: Washington Sq. Park - Greenwich Village
Synopsis: While working on carvings in a park, Vitali meets Wanda and chats with her a bit.
Cast of Characters: Vitali Svyatoslav, Scarlet Witch

Vitali Svyatoslav has posed:
Dawn had come and gone a couple of hours ago, but the heat of the day has yet to arrive. It's somewhere in the middle of the morning. An assortment of grey clouds seem to have gathered in the sky, though it hasn't yet become rain. A fog has drifted into some parts of the park. The park is quiet. Or at least, the part of it that Vitali happens to be settled in is quiet.

The Siberian has settled himself near to the fountain of the park. He's wandered it somewhat, but the sound of the fountain had drawn him to it. He's seated in cross-legged fashion on the ground. A leather pouch rests on the grass in front of him. It's unrolled, and can be seen to have multiple sections within it, each of which holds a carving tool within it. Except for one, and that particular tool happens to be within his left hand. In his right hand is held a deer antler that's been cleaned and which he's in the process of carving. What it's becoming is unclear, for the piece of work hasn't really progressed very far as of yet.

Vitali shifts the tool in his hand, pausing, and he turns his gaze towards the tumbling fall of the water in the fountain. The sound of the fountain is pleasant to his ears, and there is perhaps something in it that reminds him of his frigid home -- it reminds him of the spring thaw in some ways and in other ways it reminds him of the little burbling streams of summer -- the ones too small for fish but that were good for finding plants growing nearby.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
Parks are always nice. Especially when it's before the hottest portion of the day has come. The fact that there's fog drifting about is not a good sign for that heat later, though. That means it's going to be hot and humid. For the moment, Wanda wanders the park, looking at what there happens to be to look at. She hasn't ever been to this particular park before, so it's a new experience.

Her wandering feet are taking her toward the fountain, which she can only vaguely see through the gathered fog. Once she gets to it, she stops to watch the water burble away. The sound and sight of it is soothing. The seated man with his carving things is noticed, and she stays where she is, unwilling to disturb him with his work.

Vitali Svyatoslav has posed:
Hot and humid is not a combination that's particularly liked by the Siberian. He looks down to the antler that rests in his lap, and after studying it for a moment, he reaches out to set it on the grass in front of him. It will tell him what it wants to be in its own time. He shifts the tool slightly in his hand, takes a moment to study the edge of it used for carving, and then he places it atop of the leather roll of other tools without tucking it inside.

Soraya wings her way out from a group of trees, and she lands on the ground near to Vitali. She ruffles her feathers and clicks her beak, watching him, and then she lightly hops up onto one of his knees. A smile tugs the corners of his lips, and he lifts his right hand to lightly stroke her back. She makes an attempt to catch a stray lock of his hair when a faint whisper of a breeze pushes it in her direction. He chuckles softly and moves his hand so that he can lightly tap a fingertip to her beak. "Nyet," he says softly, sounding amused. Lifting his hands, he gathers his hair at the nape of his neck, and then he draws it forward over the front of his left shoulder, his dark gaze upon the eagle. Soraya softly flutters her feathers, watching him. He hasn't looked towards the woman that's near, but he's aware of her presence, thanks to Soraya. There is a soft murmur that he makes, a faint gesture of the fingers of his right hand that coincides with a bit of concentration on his part. A thin trickle of water appears, between himself and Soraya, pooling in the air. Soraya makes a soft sound, and then she starts to drink from it.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
As Wanda watches the fountain, that bird winging in catches her attention, drawing it away from the water. Her jade green eyes turn to watch the bird and man interacting, and she notices he's put down the carving. She sees the magic of the water he draws up even as he's forming it. Curious, she watches the spell he uses.

And thinks for a few moments, then nods once to herself. She considers, then lifts her right hand to form a ball of water that hovers above it. Same effect. No words murmured. No hand gesture given. Nothing save for a tinge of red flame flickering about her fingers. "Neat trick," she says. In Russian. Afterall, she'd understood 'nyet', and knows the language.

Vitali Svyatoslav has posed:
Only a very small amount of water had been drawn upon in order to make a drink for Soraya. There is much more water that he could summon or control if he wanted or needed to. He tries not to use more than what he needs, especially with so much of the day left. As Soraya drinks, he reaches out to lightly stroke her back, his touch soft upon her feathers. Perhaps she doesn't like the taste of the fountain water.

When the words are spoken in Russian, Vitali turns his dark gaze towards the redheaded woman. There's a bit of surprise showing in his eyes, as it isn't often he hears his native tongue. A smile comes to his features, and he gives a nod to her. He looks towards the ball of water that she summoned, and he gives a nod. "It is a little bit of magic. Soraya was thirsty," he says, in Russian. "Yours is good, as well," he says, a smile easily returning to his features.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
It would stand to reason that the bird doesn't like the fountain water. This is New York City. The water has probably been as chlorinated as any city swimming pool would be. Ew. And poisonous to drink atop being ew. Wanda has an idea of the amounts of magic that the mage before her is capable of using. She has no idea as to his thoughts, though. Nor, perhaps, any desire to know. Other peoples' thoughts can be an uncomfortable thing indeed.

Wanda contemplates the water she's holding in the air for a time more, then releases the spell. The water scatters out in droplets, some landing in the fountain, some in the grass or concrete around it. Wanda's green eyes turn to the man. "Thank you," she says, still in Russian. The red firely glow has disappeared as well, from around her figertips. "I can understand bringing forth water for her to drink. The water in the fountain, or any other artificial bodies of water, is probably not safe for her to drink."

Vitali Svyatoslav has posed:
Once Soraya has drunk her fill of the water that he summoned, she makes a soft click of her beak. Then she bobs her head before turning her head to look to Wanda. Her head tilts to one side as she clearly studies the redheaded woman. Vitali looks towards the eagle for a moment, and then to the redheaded woman with the water she had summoned.

"You are welcome," Vitali says, still also speaking in Russian. "The water has a smell that it gives off. I asked her not to drink from any of them, so she comes to me for water instead," he says, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "I do not know what is in it that makes it smell, but I would not want her to get sick from it," he adds. He moves his right arm, to let Soraya step up onto it, and once she has, he rises to his feet before lifting her to have her move instead to his left shoulder. Then he steps a bit closer to her before offering his right hand. "My name is Vitali Svyatoslav," he offers.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
Wanda Maximoff studies the eagle equally as much as it is studying her. Her attention is diverted back to its master, however. "Chlorine. It's a chemical that kills bacteria, but it's also a poison. You were right to tell her not to drink it." She leaves the fountain's edge and turns to walk toward the man. "I am Wanda Maximoff. It's a pleasure to meet you, Vitali."

The redhead stops perhaps ten feet distant. Close enough to converse easily. Far enough away not to be within his, or the eagle's, personal space. She pays litle mind to the eagle, curiously.

Vitali Svyatoslav has posed:
"Chlorine?" Vitali asks, tilting his head a bit to one side. "I have not heard of this substance before. A poison," he says, giving a small shake of his head as he looks to Soraya. The eagle tilts her head to one side and makes a soft sound, and there is perhaps the sense of something passing between them.

"Soraya thanks you for the information. She will not drink from any such water." Then his attention turns to Wanda, as she introduces herself, and he gives a small nod to her. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Wanda," he adds, a smile easily coming back to his features. "It is a pretty park. I had not visited this one before. I thought it would be a good day for finding new places," he says, his tone thoughtful. "The weather does not quite have the feel of rain coming," he adds.
