Action Territory
Date of Scene: 07 August 2021
Location: Metropolis
Synopsis: Lex continues the chase.
Cast of Characters: Jericho, Lex Luthor

Jericho has posed:
Hudson Financial appears to be a moderately small company with an office in Metropolis, with a building that looks 4 stories tall. But little does the public know that this is really a shell company hiding a covert organization that has been hiding in the shadows for many years. It has had several fronts, and this is just one of them.

Three sublevels below the building are shielded from sensors, and who knows what else? After all if they have the tech to do something like that, goodness knows what else could be hidden anywhere in the building!

Lex Luthor has posed:
With an exact destination in mind, Lex has given his orders and called for Mercy to tail the kid. Now comes the interesting part.

Walking right up to the front of the building, the green and purple warsuit brings up both gauntleted hands and prys over the doors, activating the strength amplifier just enough that he breaks the locking mechanisms, but doesn't break the doors like so much tissue paper... and he wastes no time in walkng right for the elevators, preparing to open them next.

Outside, Hope is bringing a plain black van with a team of non-marked Team Luthor to the scene, along with a surveillance unit.

Jericho has posed:
As soon as Lex pries the door open and breaks the lock mechanism, an alarm sounds, the noise screeching into the night. He probably should've expected that part. But what he may not have expected, is that once he sets foot inside, all hell breaks loose. First, every light in the entire building flares to maximum intensity, then panels in the walls and ceiling shift and rotate until turret drones emerge from them. They seem to be small hovercraft with guns mounted on each side of the CPU, where a single camera serves as an optical scanner. They immediately open fire on him, followed by the people who happened to be in the building when he barged in. So much for being office workers, as they suddenly pull out assault rifles and begin emptying magazines at him, popping in and out of desks and cubicles being used as cover.

Outside, as Team Luthor pulls up in the van, they too are assaulted by four of those hover drones, with three of them going after the van and a fourth coming at Hope as she approaches the car Wilson had gotten into.

Lex Luthor has posed:
The turrets, people and drones inside fire... and their rounds bounce off his armor fairly harmlessly, though the sheer initial volume have him off balance briefly, before he does an area wide sweep with his sensors, and sees the situation outside.

Team Luthor is already firing back as they take cover. Panicky mercenaries this squad is not. A couple take hits, and their fellows pull them into cover while others suppress. The street turns into chaos as it's suddenly a warzone, and Hope starts taking pot shots. Mercy... she takes cover from the drone, pulling out her pistol and firing back at it.

Lex, meanwhile, brings up a hand, and put of his wrist pops out a mini-grenade launcher. two smoke grenades are fired; one in the middle of the party inside, and one at the entry, and Lex turns and flies out at top speed, going just below roof level as he starts targetting the drones. Palm projectors are aimed for the drones, and just enough power is routed to them to destroy them as he starts picking them off.

Jericho has posed:
The street has indeed suddenly turned into a warzone as the drones and mercs exchange fire. There's quite a bit of chaos, and the car Wilson was trying to leave in gets upended by stray shots before he can get away.

When the people inside the building see that their weapons are ineffective against the warsuit, they quickly retreat to the basement, but the drones do not, continuing to fire everything they've got at him. They follow him outside, but when he goes up and fires from above, he easily takes them out, and they go crashing to the ground. More come out of the panels, but...strangely they suddenly stop and go back to where they came from, and everything is quiet again, almost as if nothing had happened. Well, other than the mess.

Lex Luthor has posed:
This is not going as planned. Lex will need to buy out this building later to find out what they're using as a shield against his sensors. Brainiac derived scanners should not be able to be defeated by human technology... but apparently there's a fluke here. Lex does not like flukes. "Form a line for the drone this time. Mercy, keep on the kid, out of sight. I want to know if he runs or not." Now prepared with an idea of what to expect, power is transferred to the palm projectors and Lex flies right back into the building... intent on going right for the elevator and shooting down any drones that come his way.

Team Luthor is well equipped for mere drones. He doesn't need to babysit them.

Jericho has posed:
No more drones come out though, and Lex is able to proceed unhindered down the elevator shaft and into the first sublevel of the building. What he finds there is a room lined with bunks, and beyond that there are a few rows of desks.

There are...a bunch of kids in here. They look to be no older than twelve, all huddled either under the beds or under the desks, staring out at him with terrified expressions. They're all wearing the same plain, grey uniform. But if he is scanning again, they seem to be the only ones left in the building.

Jericho has posed:
Lex would get a ping from Mercy outside, as she is keeping tabs on Wilson, reporting that he appears to be trapped in the wrecked car.

Lex Luthor has posed:
Inside his helmet, Lex speaks to the team upstairs, "Mercy, the police can deal with the building itself, but tell them the elevator is off limits. Leave Wilson alone, he isn't to know we were involved."

Outside, Lex speaks in that modulated voice, "Stay or leave, your choice children." With that, Lex starts flying right for that tunnel, intent on catching up to the people involved in this.

Jericho has posed:
The kids appear relieved when he doesn't attack, instead making a beeline for the tunnels. Sure enough, there is a round doorway--it hasn't even been sealed, but that is probably because about 300 feet in, the passage is blocked--it's been collapsed.

However, that woman, Stacy Thornton from earlier, is sitting neatly on a large rock from the cave-in. With the equipment at Lex's disposal, he can tell she's not really there. It's a hologram, and it's coming from a small projector between some boulders. She looks very smug. "Took you long enough." she remarks.

Lex Luthor has posed:
Staring at the collapse for a moment, Lex uses his sensors to pinpoint where to hit the rocks without causing serious damage to the tunnel itself and to keep it stable. The mini-rocket pod in his shoulder opens up, and Lex looks directly at one of the camera as he stands up straight, his chest projector charging. Within moments, he starts firing mini-rockets and that projector to start clearing out the collapse.

There's no talking, there's only an intimidating sense of 'you're only delaying the inevitable' as the suit stares at the cameras while he mentally clears it out.

Jericho has posed:
This would take a while, as the tunnel seems to go on for several miles, and most of it is collapsed. Not that he can't clear the rubble, but it will take time. However, it does seem to slope up at least a bit, until it finally opens out to a waterway that leads into the East River. There are a series of small docks here, that look like they once housed vehicles, probably submarines given where this is.

Lex Luthor has posed:
"There are kids down here. The police can have them. I want the basement sealed off." Lex finally says as he comes out into the river. "Have people we can trust in the police start looking for submarines along the river." Indeed, Lex starts tapping into the LexCorp satellite network and brings up a PIP of the river proper, and starts scanning for submarines along the river in one direction.... and Lex starts flying low over the river in the opposite direction, using his sensors to scan for their vehicles himself.

"These people seem to think they can get away with this." Lex notes grimly, "Just another bunch of upstarts who need to know what happens when you cross Lex Luthor..."
