Synopsis: A brief meeting with no answers
Cast of Characters: Black Widow (Romanoff), Sarah Connor

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
It's late in the evening when the door opens to admit a petite redhead. She paused to glance around the place first then moved toward one of the seats at the end of the bar. It would give her an angle to see the front door, windows, and was closer to the door passing through to the kitchen.

She was wearing jeans, a button up blouse in black with a light-weight black leather jacket over the top. A pair of black boots with a short heel were on her feet.

For those that kept up with the news, she may be recognizable as a member of the Avengers. But most people wouldn't really glance at her twice on the street.

Sarah Connor has posed:
Too bad Sarah isn't up onThe Avengers.

Sarah was taking a double shift today. Not because she wanted to, but because someone had neglected to show up today. Also known as losing your job. Sure the money was great, but she really had something to take care of.

She wasn't impressed.

Wearing a smock with "Mel's" on the left breast, Sarah had just finished cleaning up a booth. "Wow. Twenty four cents." Another thing she wasn't impressed with tonight. For some reason the tips were pathetic.

"I'll be with you in a moment. Take wherever." She slid a menu on the first available table. Who knows? She said wherever, but she certainly seems to have chosen a booth.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"I'd like to sit at the bar if that's okay?" Natasha said in response to Sarah's offer, motioning to the bar itself. Then she moved to that seat closer to the kitchen door. Right at the corner which gives her that full view of the grounds.

She picked up one of the menus that was nestled between condiment containers. Flipping it open, she took a bit of a look over it as then glanced around the back area of the diner bar. It looked clean and taken care of which made her more comfortable about ordering food.

"May I get a cup of coffee to start?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Sure! Most people prefer the booths. Sorry, the other waitress is on her break. Just a minute!" Quickly she put the used tableware in the kitchen, and turned on a fresh pot of coffee."I figure you didn't want the dregs."

She shrugs.

She also noticed that if she was sitting here, she would be approximately right where Nat was. Give or take a seat or two.. surely it was just a coincidence?

Sarah folded that bit of info into her brain. It might be useful.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"I'm not that picky but do appreciate it. I often get distracted and never get to finish mine until it's cold. And not the right cold where it has ice in it."

Because there is a difference. People might say otherwise but Natasha knew the truth.

She gave Sarah a brief smile then looked back at the menu. "You have any recommendations?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
"I know what you mean." Sarah didn't often drink a full cup, except when she had one after her shift. It was glorious. Now that she was back in civilization a good cup of coffee was really the only thing she deserved as a treat. "Some days I look forward to the end of shift just so I can savour my only cup that isn't cold, or worse, left half in the cup."

She poured Nat the first cup in that pot, and handed over creamers. The sugars were already there.

Now, Sarah was excellent at picking things from the menu. Especially when they needed to use up some stuff by the end of the week. "The cheeseburger is always good." She cocks her head at Nat. "Do you like fried pickles?"

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"Fried pickles?"

Natasha takes a moment to look over the menu, spotting the pickles listed in the appetizer section.

"Have to admit I've heard of them but never tried them." She closed the menu and put it back in place. "Let's go with the cheeseburger. If I can, the fried pickles instead of fries. If not, I'll still get the fried pickles to try them."

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Good choice." She wrote out her order, including fries /and/ pickles (something made her chose both.. just in case).

"So.. you're not from here, are you?" Sarah didn't *think* she was a terminator, but you could never tell." As she talked she put out the cutlery for Natasha.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"Not this neighborhood, no. But I do live here in New York."

Having someone recognize her was always nice. She doesn't relax visually but mentally she does. She is always a little on guard but at least she doesn't have to answer a dozen questions about the Avengers or Captain America or Tony Stark. That sometimes got a little exhausting.

"Over in Manhattan. But I have business here tonight. Thus the need for coffee. Copious amounts of coffee."

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Manhattan? So you say." Sarah gets her plate and puts it down. "I included some fries."

She listens to the rest, and nods. "You work in the city? Let's see.. You are.."

Nat earns herself a very long look. Sarah had been hoping she could stare at her without hiding. She could be a taxi driver, except she was quite fit. Could be a trucker, however she was, again, fit. Too fit as a matter of fact. That threw away a whole bunch of jobs. She *could* be a Private Investigator. It fit. Mostly.

Still it didn't get rid of the niggle at the base of her spine.

The more she *looked* at her, the more she fit into a Terminator body. Except.. something wasn't quite off about her.

Then Sarah had a clue, and she wasn't pleased: Could she be an F.B.I. perhaps?

"Nope." She lied. "I give up. What do you do for a job?"

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"I'm an investigator of sorts. Sometimes private. Sometimes working for other agencies under contract." Which really wasn't much of a lie. In fact it was the truth. Natasha just skipped the part about being a full time agent for SHIELD and a member of the Avengers. Yet she did do private investigations and she did sometimes take contract jobs so that kernal of truth was there. It was easier to give some truth and just omit details than to create lies that had to be remembered precisely.

"Tonight is a private gig. Need to watch the husband and see what he's up to at night." She gave a roll of her eyes then focused on her plate. A fried pickle was picked up and examined. Again, what she was doing tonight wasn't a lie. The man was married. And she was watching him to see what he was up to. Course, it was following up on a lead for a friend in the spandex crowd and not some wife worried about her man cheating on her.

Sarah Connor has posed:
Something in the way she put it made her wary. Back off her little voice said, and how. Even if - and she wasn't sure about that - she was telling her the truth it was a hop, skip, and a jump from what Nat did and what Sarah was running from.

She changed the subject. "Well? Do you like the fried pickles? Either you like them, or.." She nodded with her chin. "You don't. In which case, I brought you some fries."

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"I appreciate you brought both just in case."

Natasha was still looking at the fried pickle captured between her thumb and index finger. "Guess it's time to find out, huh?" She tossed the bit between her lips and chewed thoughtfully. Her brows lifted a bit and she dipped her chin in a brief nod. "Alright, that is really good. A bit weird as I'm not used to it but the flavor is on point. Thanks for the suggestion."

She reached for the burger, carefully making sure it had all the bits and pieces tucked in under the bun. Then she considered if she wanted to cut it in half first, to make it easier to deal with.

Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah grins. "Really they should make a pin so that the believers could show the world. Instead you will have to be silent. And unfortunately I've got to tend to those dishes." The other waitress was back from her break now. Time for taking her break, and fast!

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"The button would just pinpoint those of us with good case to those of us without, making us targets. I'll just stick to enjoying without advertising."

She gave a nod to Sarah as she headed off, allowing Natasha to focus on actually enjoying her meal. The coffee had cooled to a point she could take an actual sip of it finally.
