Hang In There
Date of Scene: 10 December 2021
Location: Gymnasium, The Triskelion
Synopsis: Nick's shadow is slacking off. Skye and Yaozu bring some light to the situation
Cast of Characters: Phantasm (Drago), Quake, Yaozu Lin

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
It's been a chaotic second half of the year for Nick. But that's what happens when someone knocks out a brick to the Jenga game that is one's life. Of course that makes things shake a little, but then finding out that poking at that particular brick was causing the rest of the tower to wobble crazily? Well-

That's a very indirect and confusing way to explain Nick being a guest at the Trsikelion. Just him and whatever shadow got assigned to him for the times he wanted to leave the guest quarters. One such time is now.

In the gym, the previously mentioned shadow is sitting on his ass, getting comfortable as his charge looks up at the climbing wall. Nick is currently dressed down. Hair pulled back in a ponytail, athletic pants, athletic shoes, and a dark gray tee are the key elements of his look today. The rocker lingers for a moment. giving the smallest of smiles before grabbing on.

Quake has posed:
Skye was heading down to the archery range - it had been sometime since she and Merida had put on some time. Along the way she looked who else here, seeing as she used to come late to her gym times.

Skye didn't quite like to have a lot of people around. Not that she was a cranky old bitch, but neither was she buddy buddy with the agents here at SHIELD. She worked with them, but she was particular about who she opened up to.

The 'shadow' didn't look very impressed with his charge. At that she laughed under her breath, and she didn't leave right away, watching Nick instead.

Yaozu Lin has posed:
There are some things in life that are a given. Chaos and change and mayhem all seem to find their way into everyone's lives, now and again. For Yaozu, those three things converged on him earlier this year. And his life had changed in ways that he had never expected that it would. Such is the way of things, sometimes. And what's done is done, never to find its way back to the way it was.

The door of the locker room opens, and Yaozu steps from within it. His talons make soft ticking sounds upon the floor as he steps a bit further into the gymnasium. He's dressed in a pair of black tactical style cargo pants paired to a long sleeved black turtleneck. His long hair has been tamed into a braid that rests the length of his back, and he carries a bo staff in his right hand. The staff is a very dark brown, and he carries it with a familiar sense of ease.

His gaze lightly flicks over the space of the gymnasium, to see who happens to be present in the moment. He notices Skye, after she's entered, and he slightly inclines his head towards her. A greeting, although wordlessly offered. The shadow and his charge are both noticed, and his head tilts just a touch to one side as he watches SHIELD's guest about to take on the wall.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Well, the tee does betray the fact that Nick is by no means a bodybuilder. Any tone he has is from just being very active, and apparently finding excuses to climb things. Nick takes this one a bit slower than the one at RockWallz. He's not as familiar with the paths and the color scheme doesn't seem as- organized. It's like they don't want the agents to expect color coded rocks or something. A few feet off the ground, Nick's glance looks to the holds near him and travel outwards, charting out his path. After a few moments and deciding his path, his speed picks up a little.

Yaozu Lin has posed:
There are a couple more steps taken into the gymasium, and then Yaozu stops, angled just so to be able to watch Nick as he proceeds in his climb. His gaze wanders over the assortment of holds that are within the fellow's reach, and he holds quiet for the time being. Simply watching. It's often a good way to learn things. He takes a moment to shift his wings, easing them fully open in a bit of a stretch before lightly flicking them closed at his back again.

The bo staff is shifted from his right hand to his left hand, and he lightly turns it about in order to bring the end of it to rest over his shoulder. The gesture is calm and smooth, and his right hand settles to rest at his side. His wings rest lightly at his back, and his feathers are mildly fluffed, an indication of being relaxed. His practice can wait for a wee bit, for his schedule is relatively open.

Quake has posed:
Skye didn't climb walls as a rule. She did the minimal amount to pass her exams (which were a bit harder then the regular agents), but since her powers, she had been taking even more things to prepare her.

Still, not much rock climbing!

With Yaozu noticing her presence with a nod, she smiled. "Hey. I see, we're all in here against normal hours. What's your excuse?" Her question included Nick.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Skye's question is not ignored but it takes a moment for the question to register. "Well, I wanted to get out of the room." Nick replies matter of factly, "There's only so many hours one should sleep in a day. It was suggested this would be the least disruptive time to come here."

After a period of chaos, it is good to be introduced to something that seems familiar. However, there is a drawback some do not consider. In that need for something familiar, sometimes the closest semblance to it is embraced a bit too quickly.

The climbing wall in the gym is indeed something to climb but the paths are still new to Nick. His eager ascent upon planning the course ended up having a consequence about five more grabs up. When he reaches over to grab onto another hold, the smile that was building vanishes as he comes across nothing when he grasps down. With the pace he set that ends up being a problem as his grip on the actual hold slips a bit, causing for him to drop until the free hand juts out to grab another handle as the other hand loses its grip. Its only a few inches of drop but the mind has a way of putting certain events into slow motion, making it seem much longer.

Hanging by one hand, Nick rocks back and forth a little before reaching over to secure another handle. He is quiet for a few moments before letting out a chuckle, looking to the hand holds a bit more closely this time.

"If he kills himself on that wall, it's not my fault." The shadow declares to the floor level agents. While the words are a bit harsh, he seemed to at least have the presence of mind to move to his feet at the sight of his charge nearly taking a header.

Yaozu Lin has posed:
There's a smile that parts his beak at Skye's greeting, and Yaozu turns his head to look to her. He shifts the bo staff in his grip, and then he bows to her, his left handoutermost and thus making the mark upon the back of that hand visible in the process. "I often come here outside of normal hours. There are less people here, then," he says softly, a thoughtful tone to his voice. Less people who would watch him for being different. "And what of you?" he asks of her, tilting his head a bit to one side as his gaze holds upon her.

His attention turns back to Nick as the man offers his own answer for Skye's question, and he gives a small nod. "Mm," he affirms. "It is a good idea to see different spaces, to keep one's body and mind active. Change can create chaos, and a familiar activity can often serve to ease the ripples of it," he says softly, inclining his head a touch. He falls quiet then, to cease being a distraction to Nick as he makes that journey along the wall. He tilts his head a bit to one side as he watches. His beak makes a soft click, and his feathers slick briefly, a step forward taken when there's that stumble along the intended path of holds. Yet with the grip being recovered, Yaozu's feathers fluff softly.

"You are either experienced with the rock wall, to climb without a spotter, or you have a significant amount of what could be called beginner's luck," Yaozu says, a hint of amusement finding his voice.

Quake has posed:
Meanwhile, Skye moves in and prepares to stop him from falling down. Or, at least, not so heavily.. But Nick catches himself.

"Are you certain you're not a secret agent from SHIELD?" Because, most of the special agents, and her, do something similar regularly. "I should say you really should have a spotter." Then she backs away.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"My usual gym is Rock Wallz." Nick replies, taking a bit more time to select the next grip. "Back room is nothing but climbing walls. I'm comfortable with the level 5 course now. Done 6 a few times. The 7 once. They'll probably be done with building courses 8 and 9 in January. I heard they're planning to do an obstacle course with the new space they grabbed. That could be fun..."

At the mention of the lack of a spotter, with an additional confirmation from Skye's commentary, Nick pauses in his climb to glance down. Looking over to the shadow who is much too far from the wall.

"Ok. You're a dick." Nick declares, looking to the guy who is supposed to follow him around.

The shadow looks betwen Yaozu, Skye, and then the Nick above before sighing, stepping closer to the wall.

Yaozu Lin has posed:
The avian turns his gaze to Skye, and there is a soft chuckle that slips from him, bringing with it a hint of amusement. The fingers of his left hand move slightly along the bo staff, and he tilts his head a touch to one side as his gaze shifts to Nick. "I am not familiar with Rock Wallz," Yaozu says softly, a touch of curiosity to his voice. His head tilts a bit further to that side when Nick mentions the different rock walls that he's climbed, and then he gives a small nod. "I suspected experienced was more the case," he says softly, a small smile parting his beak.

His gaze turns towards Nick's shadow, studying the fellow for a long moment. "You should consider yourself lucky that he was not harmed. Had he been, and this would become a write-up in your file. While I realize that guarding someone is oft not an exciting sort of assignment, it does not change that you have responsibilities to be minding," he says softly, giving a short nod to the fellow.

His gaze turns from the man, to briefly look to Skye before lifting to Nick, watching him. His right hand slips to the small of his back, settling there and being out of sight.

Quake has posed:
"Well, you know, it really would look to save you from Hydra, only to watch you fall from our rocks." Skye says it so blandly, it's really up in the air if she means it. "I'm not a rock climber by any stretch of the imagination. Clint is fairly good at them. Until I got my powers, I only needed to pass the minimum."

And now? It's a bit different what is expected of her.

Skye does not feel any sympathy for the shadow. Not. One. Bit. That Yaozo was ripping him a new strip was much nicer than she would have done it.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
The shadow, to his credit, does not talk back to Yaozu or do anything to interrupt the lecture. The tension to the jaw does betray the desire to. He glances down for a moment before he looks back up towards Nick.

"You should check it out sometime. It's in the Upper East Side. You know where that giant monster with the scorpion appeared about -" Nick pauses in thought, "...Has it really been over a year?" He shakes his head, continuing his climb, "A bit over a year ago some giant monster with a scorpion tail appeared in that area. Just outside the gym."

Yaozu Lin has posed:
There is a glance cast towards Skye at her words, and he gives a small nod to what she says. There is a flicker of amusement that chases through his eyes at the way she says it, and he inclines his head a touch towards her. "It would be poor form, at the least," he says softly, a hint of a smile barely parting his beak. He's quiet for a lingering moment, and one of his shoulders shifts in a faint shrug. "I was better at the rock wall before," he comments. Before what, he doesn't specify. But it was certainly easier to climb it when he was still human.

The tension that had come to the shadow's jaw was noticed, and it's a thing that Yaozu had expected. Most people tend not to take being scolded very well, if such a term could be used for the words that he had for the shadow. He, at least, hadn't ventured into the realm of calling the man dishonourable for his inattention to his duty. The notion had crossed his mind, though. "I will perhaps need to visit there sometime," he muses, his tone thoughtful. His gaze lifts to Nick, studying him for a lingering moment, and he gives a small shake of his head. "I was not here then, and news of it did not reach Beijing," he says softly.

Quake has posed:
"Or, I could follow up with the paperwork."

Now, Skye speaks up. And as the ranking agent, and one of Fury's special projects..

She stares at the shadow. "I have many more things than Agent Yaozu said. If I have to put off my archery practice, I would probably make certain it was worth it for me."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Ah. I don't think the news would have gone that far with the amount of weird stuff that happens in New York." Nick admits, pausing to focus on an overhang section. The arms pull his weight for a bit until he can return his footing. Upon getting on to the slab, he gives a small smile. "It didn't last long. Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, A Barbarian guy and a raven fought it."

As Skye brings up the paperwork again, the shadow's expression breaks with a bit of a frown. He shifts away from Skye. Be it a retreat or him just making sure to remain under Nick's climbing form is up in the air.

"If you want to check it out, let me know when you plan to go over and I can get you a guest pass." Nick offers, "I might just have to piggyback of that that trip too." As he reaches the top of the wall, he flips over the ledge to land disappear from view. There is a thunk as he lands on the platform. "Not bad!"

Yaozu Lin has posed:
Skye's threat of the paperwork causes Yaozu to look to her. His ear tufts lift, and he gives a small nod. "Yes, you could," he affirms. After all, he wasn't the only one to witness the shadow not doing his job. "It would be more significant, to come from you," he says softly, his tone thoughtful. He, after all, has only been here in New York since April, and his rank is less tha what Skye's own is. Skye has more status.

Yaozu looks up to where Nick is, and he tilts his head a bit to one side before he gives a small nod. "It is where I lived, before I came here. Beijing," he says. It explains the Asian notes behind his words, at least. At the offer of the guest pass, he gives another small nod, and there's a smile that parts his beak. "I will be sure to do that. Thank you, it is very generous of you to offer," he says softly. His right hand slips out from where it had been resting at his back, the staff in his left hand being shifted so that he can slip his right hand within his left (so that the back of his right hand is against the palm of his left), and he bows in Nick's direction, his arms extended. It takes him a moment before he straightens, and his right hand slips to his back once again. "It would be an honour to have you go with me there," he says. He inclines his head slightly towards Nick, then adjusts his staff within his left hand. "I will leave you to your climbing, to see to my own practice," he adds. That said, he turns to make his way across the gym to where he can practice with his staff.
