Take the Weather with you
Date of Scene: 10 March 2022
Location: Lucifer's Penthouse, Melville
Synopsis: Bit of a fright. When you're tracking a potentially supernatural comet through the outer limits of the solar system and profess having been studying it, you do not expect the devil to pop out there and claim a chunk. After the heart attack, there was endearing progress.
Cast of Characters: Sinister, Lucifer

Sinister has posed:
March weather has been what it has been for the last week in Melville and its proximal big apple. It seems however, to have reached a kind of critical mass point, for some. There is a device, very similar to the storm guage that once was measuring and capturing lightning during a storm of Lucifer's devising, which is parked on the balcony. It has two concentric gyroscopes which whir around a glass globe affair in which a tiny vial is suspended in the middle, connected to it by electrodes. An odd affair, but whilst a formidablel windstorm is battering the area around the penthouse of Lux, here, it's positively balmy. There's an anti-cyclone bubble over the balony and roof which affords a strangely clarid night sky view, complete with a scattering of very bright stars and occasional flying debris blustering over the higher atmosphere. And the temperature is quite pleasant enough that a simple outdoor brazier is providing a lovely heat. There's a telescope set up here, a side table and a pitcher of what might be adult limeade. Or more likely, mojito.

Sinister can be found here, reading astronomical data through the telescope, leaning forward in a wicker chair, as music plays through an honest to goodness gramophone. He's dressed for comfort, rather than the practicality of the twenty first century. He looks... a bit old fashioned.

Lucifer has posed:
Lucifer follows the music that he hears coming from the balcony, to the balcony itself, and as he approaches he gives a tilt of his head one way and then the other. He eyes the authentic gramophone and the comfortably dressed Sinister before poking his head out to find the temprature is warm, the skies are clear and there's a telescope. Along with other things that are likely responsible for the clear skies and warmer temps. Much like Nathaniel simply nods his head and pretends to understand most things magical, Lucifer does the same for most complicated science workings. Just goes along with it. "So, what are we studying tonight? Mercury is reverse retrograde with water rising? Pisces having a splash? Did Orion leave his sword at home?" He jokes, grins, and then leans against the railing of the balcony and lights up two cigarettes, offering one to Nathaniel soon after.

Sinister has posed:
And if the devil doesn't ask, there will be no explanation. If he gets curious though, there's absolutely going to be an attempt to make the strange little gyroscope make sense. Sinister looks up at the presence he can feel, a glance over his shoulder and the hint of a smile before he looks back into the telescope and carefully swings it another way. "I'm sure the horoscope is dancing through the great houses -- you know there's entire religious castes that spend a great deal of time fiddling around with just that. But no, I was actually trying to find....." fiddle fiddle, fiddle. "....that." He gestures grandly, sits back from the telescope and offers the eyepiece.
There's a comet being viewed, its icy tail oddly reddish tinged and quite large by comet standards. The telescope shouldn't by all rights, be able to make out that much detail, but this one seems remarkably clarid. It is what it is albeit.

The cigarette is taken, a pleased 'thank you' following as the mojito is decanted into a couple of glasses, with one held out. "For a change, I felt like cool and fruity. It goes well with a side of Apophis comet."

Lucifer has posed:
Lucifer isn't going to ask, not that he minds the technical explanations of how things work, but in this moment he is just going to accept what is going on. As Nathaniel explains about how he's looking for something in particular while offering off handed details about religions and their want to understand astrology - whatever the man has been looking for is found. Lucifer shifts to look through the offered eyepiece, being careful to hold his lit cigarette aloft for the moment. "Oh wow. That's a lovely sight. Which comet is this one? Assuming it's one of the actual named ones and not like ex vee jay dash two seven six five point one aught..." He chuckles then before shifting back a bit. The offered glass is taken and he smiles. "Ah, Apophis comet... doesn't the red in the tail mean what it's made out of... like... what would it be..some sort of mineral?" He asks before taking a drink of the mojito.

Sinister has posed:
"NOrmally they have an ice corona. But this one in particular, I think because of its passage through the oort cloud at the edges of the solar system, picks up ... something. Given that the scientist in me would say it's high in meteoric iron content, I'm going to stab at that. But according to the research data I was actually able to catalogue through various agencies in the middle east and north africa, which beautifully came through for me today... the legends associate this particular one with an unknown element. One that I suspect may be dragged through from a different plane. I haven't had a lot of chance to study extra-planar matter." Sinister replies with a sniff, easing back and taking a sip of mojito. He clears his throat, places the cigarette there to be enjoyed and crosses his legs, looking up at the night sky with his naked eyes. "Historically speaking, this particular comet was a herald and a portent of disaster."

Lucifer has posed:
"I mean..." Lucifer starts this and then glances up into the skies themselves. "What's stopping anyone from actually knowing the material? Going up into space and getting a sample?" He asks this much more and then glances to Nathaniel while taking a long drink from his glass. "If you want...I can go grab a chunk of it, bring it back to you. So you can analyze it?" Asking and offering at the same time, perhaps even readying to take off as soon as Nathaniel says yes. "....You don't need to breathe...so technically could you go into space too...without repricussions?"

Sinister has posed:
"Well..." Sin ponders that, wincing a little and drops his gaze to Lucifer. A couple of drags are taken, blown out to the side and ash flicked. "The last time this bad boy popped up significantly, it was before the awakening of the world to the Supers and considerably before it became the centre of this quadrant of activity on the prime material plane. I don't think many people -could- hop on up to it and just take a sample when it was close enough and making trouble." He drags again, flicks again. "I could easily survive in space. My problem is the vast distances between celestial objects and the fact that my ability to teleport is strictly scientifically powered, with the exception of a few very precious genetic samples. And I already told you about the problem of teleportation and certain other powers and how it can make for an unstable genome structure. Exploding clones. So... previously I never tried. And /we/ have only known each other a year. It's been about that long for all the data on the Apophis meteor to be gathered by my intel crew."

He sighs a little, shooting back half the mojito and fighting a moment of brain freeze with a grimace and his tongue on the roof of his mouth. "Aaagh. Better. You know that thing where I'm wary of a thing, because I've not got all the data? Well, part of what I was doing here, was charting in seven point triangulation, where in relation it is to us. Coordinates in three dimensional space, as opposed to regular GPS. I worry that it might contain things we're not quite equipped for."

Lucifer has posed:
Lucifer sets his glass down and then takes another drag off his cigarette. "Okay, but I can likely teleport to it, knock off a chunk and bring it back here. I wouldn't even be gone that long. Couple minutes tops? Cause I can survive hurling through the universe at thousands of light years a minute." He offers this. "If it's me, it'll be fine. If you are the one holding onto it, and I'm sure you can figure out a way to hold it with all your advanced sciencey stuff..." He grins and then...

He's gone. For a breath. A beat. Perhaps juuuuuust long enough for Sinister to perhaps get just a little bit fearful that the Devil isn't coming back. Or somehow manages to disappear again....

Only he reappears just then, juggling a piece of rock in his hands. It's a nice sized chunk too. Plenty of it for analysis and ooh'ng over.

Sinister has posed:
"Oh, I believe you," about to reply when the grin comes and then, well, when you're pale as a sheet in the first place, it's impossible to go any paler than that. However, there is an instant where intent is recognized but POOF too late, mate. Sinister gets up sharply, staring straight up, darts to the telescope, cusses mightily because of this tiny thing called 'the speed that light travels' and promptly starts walking back and forth on the balcony like a caged tiger, staring up at the sky.

When there's a poof of brimstone and a reappearing archangel, he gasps a breath in, fists clenched at his side, face a mix of worry and fury at the same time, which promptly deflates into a stare at the chunk of rock. "... ... ... ... Right. Okay then. Clearly not cthulian in any way, nor dragging voracious critters from another dimension. Just a rock. With perhaps odd qualities." His cigarettes are taken out, one quickly set to lips as the other one got crushed and lit. There's a slight shaking of his fingers where he strokes his zippo flint.

Lucifer has posed:
Lucifer frowns just a little when he sees how sort of irritated his little trip made Sinister and sets the rock to floating. Keeping it there with his mind as he moves forward to place one hand around the shaking one holding the zippo. His other snaps hellfire to life so Nathaniel can light his cigarette. "If I didn't do it now, when would we get another chance? Decades? Centuries? Sure we'd still be here but... in all that time you could be making waves...." He offers this and then takes a step back. "Also, no, no critters..." This much more and then he smiles. "but a gift, my love, for you. A piece of space rock for you to oogle over..."

Sinister has posed:
Sinister almost grabs Lucifer's hand when it's brought in to replace the zippo. The action was there, but then he kind of just takes it and enfolds it and laces digits and FIERCELY does not let go. "I suspect I should've said before, that I wasn't sure if an element of that comet wasn't inherantly supernatural and could in fact, have been terribly dangerous. I am, at this point in time, EXCEPTIONALLY grateful that I was being my overly paranoid self. Thank you, my love. But I needed that heart attack, just to feel my lack of mortality laughing in my ear, like that kid from the Simpsons."

He lets the hand relax, so that he's just holding it. "It would have been centuries, you are quite right. I just... wow, my heart is racing." He puts his hand to his chest and lets Lucifer just feel how it's gone up to ninety a minute. Practically a sprint for he who usually putters at 50.

Lucifer has posed:
"Glad I could be of service?" Lucifer answers, with a sort of question, as if he's unsure if he should really be glad or perhaps not so much. Either way, when all is said and done, he's all grins once again. "Well, you needed that heart attack, I was glad to go into space and get a little piece of history." Feeling the racing heart of Sinister's, he rubs at the chest a moment and then steps in and presses himself against Nathaniel's form. "Now, hows about we take this chunk into your lab within the penthouse and get some good reports off of it hmm? We'll have to find the best way to store it as well."

Sinister has posed:
The stepping in results in a sudden and abrupt clutching. He doesn't say it in words, he does it in action, the fierce need to cling, enfold and reassure himself and transfer by inferrance, the depth of meaning. "Thank you," said again, in a whisper, but it's meant. Then before it can get a bit awkward when he was being suave and weather controlling, he slaps the back a couple of times and nods, stepping back with a drag of the smoke and a glance to where it's floating. A click of the fingers and his ozone ring appears, dropping a geiger counter and some kind of spectrometer into his palm, both of which are aimed at the space rock, with a check of the readings. "It should be fine just stored in the safe, with all the stacks of money and gold bars. It's only got a borderline radiation level, which is likely due to exposure. I'll clean it off and it ought to be safe to handle even for a human being." A roundhouse gesture of his right hand pats the rock to float ahead of them, rotating swiftly as it does so, shaving off bits of intergalactic dust which gathers in a cloud. "And that, I can put into the Mass-spec and leave it running a full analysis. See... the rest of this which I didn't manage to get to before-- the data suggests that various artifacts were created out of this meteoric rock when a portion of the Apophis meteor crashlanded into the Sahara desert in the 2nd century BC, spawning the cult of Apophis, centered around the coveting of these stones."

Lucifer has posed:
Lucifer is held, for a lingering moment, and then he's let go and he smiles. "You're welcome." This offered before Nathaniel tests the rock, determining that it's not quite radioactive and can be cleaned and stored safely. "Nice." Then they're heading into the apartment, watching as he even gathers the dust that continues to fly off the rock as they continue onwards. He'll likely help where he can and then decide to further reassure his geneticist about life, love, and all things they share.
