Sometimes you just want a burger
Date of Scene: 16 April 2022
Location: Fred's Diner - Mutant Town
Synopsis: Sarah and Nick have a small chat at a diner with similar results as the last time
Cast of Characters: Phantasm (Drago), Sarah Connor

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Even though it might be best to stay in a secure location during one's downtimes, that's not always going to be the case. As is the case for today. You see, Nick wants a burger.

But the cafeteria in the Trisk was not serving them and he didn't have any ground beef to work with in the guest quarters.

Which brings the musician with the questionable status of personal security at Fred's Diner this evening. Dressed down, hair tucked into his tee with a ballcap added to provide the illusion of short hair, Nick puts in his order for a to go order before shuffling towards a nearby booth. He sits down on the edge of the bench, feet positioned to face the dining area.

Now all that's left to do is waiting for the food to be prepared. That's not a major issue. Fred's diner is relatively quiet tonight. That is good. it'll mean that there's not much of a wait beyond the time it takes to kill away the evil agents of e-coli.

Sarah Connor has posed:
Two things were on Sarah's mind: 1) a late supper, and more importantly, 2) checking this neighbourhood out. You could never be careful about it when you had to be on top of Terminators, and as well, the FBI.

As it was, she had just wandered into Fred's when the third reason showed his face: Nick.

Great. Though a quick look around showed to be by himself.

Without asking she sat at his booth, on the opposite side of him. Her position had a very good view, via mirror, of the whole place. Mirrors were a waitress's best friend. "So, I have to wonder, you never did say why you were hanging around the SHIELD agent. A movie star, perhaps?"

Afterall he could have been watching Clint to pick up a hint or two to play him better.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Well, if anything else supported the 'not a spy' argument beyond the previously described 'pretty face', it would be the general process in which Sarah joined Nick. Being that he was already seated on the side of the bench, feet facing the dining area instead of under the table, the woman's approach did come to notice. He did have enough warning not to look at the woman in complete shock as she sat on the other side. The look of befuddlement, well that was still present.

He's quiet, letting Sarah break out the reason for her joining him. A head tilts up slowly before lowering. Ah. She wants to know about the other guy. "...I think I more or less did, actually. He put in a food order. Then called up and changed the delivery address. Which would be why he had that to go bag..." He pauses, looking to cook at the grill, "Seems the onion rings here are to die for."

Sarah Connor has posed:
"No." Sarah was not fooled by that. "He had your name, and furthermore he questioned me with you present. A delivery man you are not. And given the way he talked with you, he wasn't treating you like a lower lever agent or probie, means two things could be true."

Really he could have been a lower level agent but she doubted it. Even knowing Clint as little as she knew him, it was too cordial even for him.

"Either you are hanging around taking notes, or you're in protection. And you aren't being looked after too shit hot if I just walked in and sat down with you. Which is it?"

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Oh yes. I just happen to carry random 'To Go' bags with me whenever I meet someone." Nick responds, tone displaying a bit of sarcasm, "And I somehow doubt they're the type to agree to do movie op deals so, that's not it either. And you've already ruled off the protection based off me being here"

Nick tilts his head. Cracking a smile, he turns slightly, resting his back against the bench seat by doing so. "So, it looks like you are 0 for 2. And why would you even care?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Depends."

Sarah smiles a smile that doesn't go beyond her features. Her eyes are still hooded.

"How much do you want me off your back. Because right now you're an uncertain. And I don't like them in my life." She switches the topic. "You said I was flirting with danger. That I was heading for my death. Why."

She wasn't surprised at this. But she was definitely curious why he had said it.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick looks to the woman mirroring his expressions. The question regarding how much he wants her off his back gives him pause. "Are you saying you were actually seeking me out? Because that seems like a BIG waste of time."

He glances to the grill and the server who is starting the process of bagging up orders. Nick looks back towards Sarah, "I said that because I was listening. And it doesn't take a genius to figure out where you're heading."

Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah leans back for a minute. "So you were listening. Your friend hasn't made the connections yet. Why is that?"

Which brought back to the first question. She leans in. "Your friend is most definitely a SHIELD agent, so that makes you a person of interest. You know how it goes."

She doesn't even bother to bring up whether or not she was actually hunting him down. Let him stew on that one awhile.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Are you sure he hasn't?"

Teasing? Or a valid question? "He's an agent so he likely figured it out before me. I'm just less inclined to do the cloak and daggers bullshit."

There's that word again.

Nick glances back towards the grill for a few moments, then the growing to go bag. He glances back, "You were right in that I'm no spy. I WAS delivering food. That rookie comment was probably just to annoy me."

Nick looks back to Sarah, "Seriously though. You guys say someone who can blend in with the crowd is trying to kill you. But then you avoid any opportunity for help from those likely capable to help you. And then you start talking about how your only reason to be alive is to make sure someone else stays alive and how he's all that you care about. What other conclusion is there to make?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
"That I should keep my big mouth shut?" Sarah had to admit it, she'd let too much information out. Probably since Clint was getting close.

Lowering her voice even further, she continues. "How can I trust anyone? Clint has gotten too close to me." Yes, Clint. Not Agent Barton. "How can I protect you from what I know. Damnit. We're trying to end this war before it breaks out."

"Yes, you are correct, I'm probably going to die in the not too distant future. I've come to terms with that. What I can't live with is the deaths of innocents."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
The other side of Nick's lips twist upwards, making an actual smile. He shakes his head, "There's worse people to talk to than Clint. And it turns out he can be just as much a mother hen as you are a mother grizzly."

Nick rests his arms on the table, "Anyways, without diving too far into the details on my end, It seems to me that the best way to prevent something is to educate those who can do something to prevent it. Even if it looks to be a pain in the ass. Who knows? You might even get to beat the fate you seem so set on running towards."

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Who? Him?" Sarah gives a bitter little laugh. "And here we come to the next problem. I can't trust him, nor you, because of being too close to him."

After all, she had warrants out for her arrest. Multiple warrants.

The people who were responsible for the Terminators, made certain that she could get help from anyone like Clint.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Well, I'm not really asking you to trust me." Nick points out, "Nor do I feel like doing some bullshit to try and prove myself. I'm just sharing my general observation.

"Nick?"

The musician turns his head, seeing a rather large to go bag ready and waiting. He gives a nod and looks back to Sarah. "Since you took the time and all to ask." He starts to get up. "...I'm not saying go to him. Just... go to someone. Hiding only works for so long."

Sarah Connor has posed:
"No one asked you to prove yourself."

Well Sarah didn't.. but she also did. Except no one could prove beyond a shadow of a doubt. You were damned if you didn't; and equally damned if you tried.

"You better get your food." She nodded with her chin. Her appetite was gone.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick nods as Sarah prompts him to get his order. "Well. Good luck Sarah. And get help if you can. Losing a mom sucks. Make sure it's actually necessary before you go jumping on that grenade."

With a nod to the woman, Nick turns, heading to the counter to collect the food.
