Cast of Characters: Wonder Woman, Sarah Connor

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince had been asked to be the Commencement speaker for a university in Maine earlier in the day. It had gone well as had the reception afterward. Now came the need to travel back to the embassy. Driving was never something that she had felt a need to do; Why would she want to when she could fly? But she had learned so as to understand the fascination that America, and other countries, had with vehicles of all types.

Still, she had come to appreciate that there was a sense of freedom in driving along back roads and taking in the scenery. Because of this she had chosen to drive to the ceremonies and now she had found herself in the area of Breakstone, in need of a refill and with a growing appetite.

Having refilled at the gas station she paused to ask someone for a suggestion of a place to get a meal. That suggestion led her to Mel's Diner. Pulling into the lot and parking, Diana made her way into the diner, glancing around with a curious smile.

She was dressed casually for the drive. A gray tank top under a red white and blue flannel shirt left unbuttoned. The sleeves were worn down, which unintentionally concealed the silver bracers on each forearm. Denim shorts and hiking boots completed the attire for her drive.

Looking for a server, she waited to learn if she would be seated or if she should find a place for herself.

Sarah Connor has posed:
Somehow she'd managed to be talked into a shift. Marie was off on a trip. The other girl quit. The one the owner would have counted on had surgery. All she owner had left was herself, and she's already taken two shifts.

In other words, the owner was desperate.

"Three times your usual pay. Please!"

What a sucker she'd been. Still, here Sarah was. At least it was dead at this hour. Which meant clean up the tables and chairs; fill up the condiments; that sort of thing. She'd done the tables and chairs, including the booths. Now she sat and was filling up the sugar bowls.

For Memorial Day it was especially quiet. Sarah liked it that way. (Though she had no doubt that come midnight the late night crowd would trickle on in.

*dingle*

"Take anywhere you want, I'll be just a moment. Would you like a cup of coffee while I'm at it?"

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince looked toward Sarah and offered a smile. "Thank you. And yes, please." Seeing how busy with the diner, the woman was, Diana chose to try and be considerate by selecting a stool at the counter rather than picking a booth and making the server go farther.

Perching atop the stool, the Amazon easily rested her elbows on the counter, eyes moving to the menu to see what manner of meals were offered for this time of night.

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Most people swear by the hamburger with onion rings.. oh."

For the first time she'd /really/ looked at Diana. "But you might find the sandwich plates better on the grease." Sarah makes a 'enh' face. In other words: for some manner of grease.

Everything at the diner, except for drinks, contained some modicum of grease.

She put the coffee mug in front of Diana, along with coffee creamers. The sugar containers were sitting in the bar within easy reach.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince looked up as Sarah spoke. She listened with interest before offering a smile, "Thank you. I do not tend to eat a lot of meat, but I am not against a good hamburger." She laughs quietly. "It has been long said that diners have the best food, likely because everything has grease, hasn't it?" Blue eyes regard the other woman with pleasant curiousity.

"I do think I will need a minute or two longer. But I have narrowed it down to the Turkey Club, the bacon cheeseburger - with the onion rings, or possibly... the salad." Because there always has to be a lighter, potentially healthier option. Even if it isn't chosen!

Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah has to laugh to herself. "That is what they say about diners. Though, they do offer other things with the health conscious person in mind. If I had the choice.." And she think a bit. "Since you don't eat much in the way of meat, and the hour.. I'd say the Turkey. But you have to try the onion rings. People come from over the state line to try them."

Then again she might be stretching the truth a little wee bit. Just this much ><.

Sarah has the usual diner clothes. She puts her hair in a ponytail, but doesn't wear a hair net.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince smiles and listens. "Then I will follow your advice. The Turkey club, please. And with the onion rings." She sets the menu back in its place at the counter and now focuses upon the cup of coffee before her. She adds several small containers of creamer to the dark liquid, watching the pale clouds swirl within.

Taking an exploratory sip, she seems satisfied with the concoction and cradles the mug in her hands. This causes her sleeves to pull back, revealing the silver bracers. Each with a red star upon them.

"I have never been this way before. It is a lovely town. I would have imagined a diner such as this to be more busy? Perhaps it is due to the holiday" she wonders aloud.

Sarah Connor has posed:
"It's the combo of it being a holiday over the Monday, and it being Sunday night. We're in the dead time right now. Come back.. say.. 3 hours? You wouldn't believe it's the very same place."

Sarah put Diana's order in.

"With the highway bypassing this town we don't get much of the holiday crowd. And actually I'm only here because I felt sorry for the owner. I haven't worked here, officially, for a month."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince listens with interest, sipping at her coffee. "I see. That does make sense. I admit that I would not have found the town or this diner had I not chosen to drive back to Manhattan the long, slow route" she admits with a smile. "It was a nice afternoon and it seemed a shame to just pass by all of the natural beauty of this area by taking the interstate. I shall have to come back this way more often, I think."

She looks curious, "Felt sorry? Oh. Well I shall hope that it is not to difficult on you to come back to a job you no longer work."

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Most people who take the scenic route are pleasantly surprised. However, if everybody took it, it wouldn't be long until this town was like New York." She grins and winks.

It wasn't long before the sandwich and onion rings were ready. "There you are!" Putting the dinner plate in front of Diana.

"In the business there are two types of employees. Terrible, and Old Pros. They are always losing the terrible workers." Sarah shrugged.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince listens as she sips from her coffee cup. A few nods along with the conversation are offered.

"It is true. Let us hope, then, that enough find their way through to keep this lovely town employed. But not so many as to overcome it's quaint status?" she offers with a smile.

"Oh? I would think it to be the other way around. I suppose that is my lack of business experience."

Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah quirks a brow. "The terrible ones are here today, gone tomorrow. Mind you, I guess the old experienced one leave. Though usually they skip from one place to the other when they do it. I suppose it may seem like they are gone. Take me. I quit, and got a new job.. at another restaurant. It suits my lifestyle."

And she was good enough that her bosses let her take time off.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince nods. "I see what you mean. As I am not familiar with the routines of staffing restaurants I had it completely wrong. Perhaps that is why I am not working in restaurants myself" she ponders with amusement. "But for my sake, I am happy that you are here tonight. I have both learned something and gotten a delicious meal based on your recommendations. I thank you."

She pauses long enough to close her eyes in silence briefly, before proceeding to take a bite of the sandwich.

"It is very good."

Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah stops and takes a good look at Diana.

"You're not from around here are you." It sounds like she means a visitor who has never been here before. When in reality, she means this isn't her kind of folks. Her talk was very particular; she used exquisite body language; and more to the points, Diana was very aware of her setting.

That last one threw Sarah for a loop. At least she didn't seem to be a terminator!

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince looks to Sarah curiously then smiles. "No. You are correct. I am most certainly not from this area. I live in Manhattan currently. But.." She shrugs, causing her sleeves to ride up and once more show off the silver bracers less than intentionally. ".. I am not originally from the United States. Or from any of the countries of the, mm, Known World as it is usually described?"

She offers another smile, "I am Diana of Themyscira. Ambassador from the Amazons." It seems to make her uncomfortable introducing herself. Not from a sense of embarrassment but from a sense that, while admitting who she was is usually of assistance to others as to why she may not always have the mannerisms of a local, it feels like bragging. Something she certainly does not intend.

Sarah Connor has posed:
As Diana introduces herself, Sarah memorizes her mannerisms - to keep in mind if she ever was near her again, *this* was her, *that* would be a terminator. She notices the bracers, and frowns ever so slightly.

"Well, Diana," she leans back on the rear counter. "I hope you have liked your stay. Usually there are a few more people than just me and the cook." And he doesn't leave the kitchen. Maybe the back to get a fresh bit of air.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince notices the scrutiny but passes it off as questioning whether or not she is who she claims to be. It doesn't seem to bother her as she continues to eat her sandwich and the onion rings.

Pausing for a sip of coffee, she smiles. "It has been pleasant enough, Miss. I have only driven into the town, gotten gas at the station, and come here for this meal. Perhaps I will have an opportunity to come back and stay for a few days to learn what the area has to offer. I think it would be enjoyable."

Finally finishing what she intends to eat, she gently pushes the plate away from herself. "Thank you again for the recommendation. I did enjoy it. And the onion rings were truly amazing" she says with a sincere smile. "I should probably pay for my meal and return to the road. There is still a bit of driving before I reach the embassy again." She pauses, "May I pay for another cup of coffee to go, please?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah smirks. "On the house."

Without questioning how Diana takes it, she pours a cup, and doctors it correctly. "Normally, most people enjoy a cup or three after their meal." As an explanation. Her cheque was provided with the cup of coffee to go. "If you stay on the highway instead of deking back to the interstate, you'll find it really won't take you very much longer, and it's a better drive. No trucks. No people up your ass trying to get home in a minute, instead of a minute and a half."

And best of all, no people would look at you. There's a lot of anonymity of the side treks. Ask her how she knows.

Wonder Woman has posed:
It would be something interesting to ask. However Diana has no reason to question the advice. What she has been offered so far has been sound and no worse than any other she had received. A smile, "Thank you, then." It will reflect in the tip which is now increased by the cost of the cup of coffee beyond the already generous amount written down. The card that is provided for payment does indeed proclaim her name to be Diana Prince and bears the embelm of the Themysrican Embassy as well as proper bank logos.

Once paid, she stands and takes the travel cup without questioning its preparation. A nod and a wave are offered, "I hope you have a pleasant evening and that you find the happiness you are looking for in all your endeavours." It seems quite sinceere. Perhaps even a sort of blessing or observation. And then she is making her way out the door toward her car.

Sarah Connor has posed:
As Diana pays, and heads for the door, Sarah watches over her. The feeling of blessing is not missed, but knowing Sarah it is tucked away under 'Diana, Amazon Ambassor' and not taken personally.

In Sarah's life god wasn't real, and you had to work it out for yourself. Or be stuck.

And Sarah wasn't about to be stuck.

Almost time to begin prepping for the late night crowd..
