The Calm of Home
Date of Scene: 15 March 2023
Location: Smallville, Kansas (the Kent Farm).
Synopsis: o
Cast of Characters: Superman, Supergirl

Superman has posed:
The Kent Family barn doors are ajar. From within an acoustic guitar strums a series of nights as a song begins the opening chords of Chris Cornell's "Seasons." The sounds dance in through the air thanks to a radio that stands proudly on a work bench. Resting in front of the radio is a pair of black rimmed glasses. Their owner is busy looking underneath looking at a tractor.

Clark often comes back to the farm to not only visit, and even help, his family. However, this is the one place he can get away from himself. The Clark Kent most of the world sees is one part truth and one part something else. And the same could be said of Superman. Clark Kent couldn't rush off to save people. And Superman couldn't enjoy a simple chili dog or a ball game on television.

In Smallville, Clark -could- do those things. Granted, it's within reason. Luckily, the Kent farm is far enough away from prying eyes he can take off the glasses, stand up straight, and work in a simple pair of jeans and a black shirt.

Right now, those sky blue eyes are looking over the frame of the vehicle. He's trying to make sure nothing about the structure is bent. If it is, Clark could maybe look into a correction rather than buying a new tractor. Gently, he sets it down. Grease and grim smudges along exposed arms and different spots of his person. There's something freeing in small moments like this one.
Supergirl has posed:
Kara has been gone for months on a mission far off into space. Whether this left a noticable void in the lives of her family, she can't say, but their absence has left a noticable void in her heart. Having recently, only a few hours really, returned to Earth; she makes her way to the one place she knows for sure she can almost always find Clark. It doesn't hurt that she can literally see him no matter how far away she may be, but it was a simple enough guess to point her home to Smallville and the Kent family farm.

She'd stopped at her apartment to grab something other than the suit she'd been travelling in and flew towards the farms of Kansas with a grin already perking the corners of her mouth when she spies the familiar visage of her cousin working on a tracker in the barn outside his childhood home.

The blonde kryptonian lowers down from her flight into the open doors of the barn. Her hair is pinned back with a red framed pair of glasses resting on the bridge of her nose. She's wearing a simple white sleeveless blouse, blue capri pants, and a pair of white sneakers. "You need a hand with that, lil guy?" He is anything if little, but what kind of cousin would she be if not to remind him which of them is older.. in her usual bright and playful tone. "Hey Clark."

"I'm home."
Superman has posed:
Clark hears Kara long before seeing her. It's how all Kryptonians fly. They practice enough, it can break the sound barrier. The hearing can pick up on the sound. To those that can hear, it's very distinct. The best way to describe it is a small one man jet, the size of a compact car, flying through the skies.

Her impending arrival allows him time to casually pick up the glasses and slip them on his face. Suddenly there's a blond figure before him with red framed glasses at the bridge of her nose. She's a pastion of white, a contrast to those drab colors of his own.

Clark grins at the sight of his cousin. "Not if you want to dirty those nice clothes." The grin stays on his face when some calls him "Lil' Guy." It's strangely humbling to have your cousin call you, "Lil' Guy." Clark figures it helps keep his ego in check. Kara uses that nickname whenever she can. This includes when the two of them are in costume together.

Inversely, Clark will always be there to tell others about Kara's prowess. Sometimes he outrights says that she's -better- than him. Mostly he attributes it to her mind. Kara remembers Krypton. She remembers other races, technology far beyond Earth's grasp, his family and so much more. It's a perspective he gives credit to. Plus, he is a little jealous she -has- that perspective. Everything about Krypton Clark learns through a computer. This includes his family.

A computer program only goes so far, even if it's a perfect carbon copy of your father.
Supergirl has posed:
"I have more clothes." Kara doesn't run towards Clark, but casually closes the distance between them with the grin widening with each step. Her intentions are never cruel with her nickname, but before coming to Earth, he was only a baby. The fact he's so much bigger than her now, well it's downright amusing. It's a little cheeky, but said with absolute affection.

"I missed you." Opening her arms a few short steps away as if she's fully intent on being pulled into a hug. The Kents are reknowned for their hugs, afterall. "How's everyone? I saw Karen when I landed, but Lois, and Martha?"

The irony is she would say the same about him. He was Superman long before she arrived and had already become the vision of heroism that most people aspire too. She's copying the framework he established.. Though she absolutely understands his desire to know their homeworld in the same way she did.

Even if that memory is so painful to her, she couldn't imagine it not being part of her. To learn everything through the lense of a collection of records fed to him through a computer. "Did you get taller?" She wonders playfully, pushing her glasses upon the bridge of her nose above her entirely too wide grin.
Superman has posed:
"I missed you!" Clark pulls Kara into a hug, since she didn't care about missing up the clothes. He'll pick her up and spin the young woman before letting her down. "Martha's good. Karen's good, but you know that. Lois is. . ." Clark's voice trails. "She yells at me for slouching," he admits. Clark's both amused and feeling a litlte chided for that.

"Well, you've always been short to me," he grins, just as playfully. "Maybe that time in space shrank you?" he grins and then pushes up his own glasses. The grin on his face, they're totally family. "How was . . .wherever you were? What did you do?" he asks.
Supergirl has posed:
Kara laughs around a spreading grin when she's spun into that hug and reaches up to squeeze Clark's arm affectionately when he sets her back down. Each assurance that everyone is as they should be given a nod, "She was happy to see me." Karen, "I think I make her feel more... herself? I can't even imagine." A clone, but that's nothing new to either of them, is it? Even that, however, can't break the blonde's stride. Her ever optimistic smile remains steadfast. "Well, you should probably listen to her, huh? What if you develop bad posture..."

As if that were even possible.

"Hah.. maybe it did. There weren't any yellow suns where I went, maybe my tired old bones have had quite enough of my nonsense." The bemused tone likely belays any notion of seriousness, until she adds in a quieter tone, "I heard rumors of other refuges from Krypton." The smile might remain, but the mirth behind it flickers as she shakes her head in the negative. There were none.
Superman has posed:
"At least you have that bond," sometimes Clones can feel a little inferrior. Like they aren't the source they're made from. In Clark's mind everyone is imperfectly perfect and who theya re meant to be. No excepctations, bt everyone can strive for improvement. To be the best they -could- be. His dull blue eyes looking at her.

"But. The world needs to see Clark from a certain light," he admits and gives a nod. "Same for Kara Kent," he knows they both have personas to maintain. "That might be harder for you," he says knowing people might still look upon the woman.

Seeing that mirth stay, but dull within her makes him sigh. "We'll find them. Kryptonian. Daxamite. Anyone to come from Krypton, if they're from the stars, we'll find them," he says trying to assure his cousin. He'll even try to hug the woman from behind. Something soft, gentle and subdued. No arms are to be wrapped around her too tightly.
Supergirl has posed:
"I am too. She's got a great deal of regrets for what she was made to do." Kara's expression threatens to sour thinking about how Lex had manipulated Karen to great darkness, but nothing can truly keep her mood dimmed. "She's come a long way. Thanks to Lois, apparently she's helping her learn about Earth." Which should surprise nobody. Truly, she is the glue that holds all of the artwork together.

"I'm sure it helps that image that she's always trying to keep you from slouching." It makes sense to her. She grips one wrist with the other hand and looks pleased as punch for a brief moment. Considering his encouragement, that they will find their people.

"I hope so. More have to have survived... I know they're out there." The comfort of the embrace silence her near ramble, instead nodding her agreement. Even she needs encouragement from time to time. Nobody can smile all the time. "You're right. Of course you're right.. We'll find them."
Superman has posed:
Clark knows enough about Karen and her regrets. The dull blue eyes watch Kara as she praises her namesake, for lack of better words. An inward nod of approval goes toward his cousin.

"It does, but Lois does lay it on a little thick," the man protests. Shaking his head a little bit, "I'm just making sure it's just for the act," he admits. Although, Clark's not entirely sure.

"We'll find others like us. Try to show them the good with the world and galaxy," Clark's afraid that maybe some Kryptonians would share a worldview similar to Lex Luthor. While he wants -everyone- to be good, the realist in him says they probably wouldn't be. There would probably be one. It's just hoping that they keep such a contrast at a minimum.

"What else have you done, Kara? Find anyone? How's the job?" he asks curiously.
Supergirl has posed:
Kara rests her hands on her hips, peering around the barn with a look of comfort washing over her. It really was good to be home. The smell of fresh cut grass, the warmth of the sun, even Earth's unique atmosphere, she genuinely loved it. Though his concerns about Lois draw her away from her revelry with a smirk, "Maybe.. I mean it is Lois, giving people a hard time is definitely one of her many skills." Only the mildest teasing.

Incase she's standing around the corner or something.

"I'm sure it's just for the act, Clark. She knows good and well you're no slouch."

Naturally guiding into what may come of WHO they find, "Mmm. Not everyone on Krypton was as good as your parents. That's what led to the planet being .... well.. anyways. Even if it was the worst of us, I still hope we find them.. Before they find Earth." If that kind of fight ever comes to Earth, the destruction it could potentially cause...

"Mm, good. I was able to get my job back. I told them I went on a Religious sabbatical to the mountains for a few months. I honestly have no idea why they believed me, but at least I've got a job, right?"
Superman has posed:
Clark shakes his head. It feels like a lot of people do love Lois. And he's going to let the point lay. Well, at least let it be for now. Maybe later he would resume it.

"I know they aren't. I heard stories about different family lines. Also, I saw the greed of certain council members. A rumored military coup," Clark goes throguh a lot of what he constantly sees via the fortress.

Dull blue eyes look to Kara talk about the sabatical. "What will you tell coworkers?" Both arms cross and he leans against the closest wall. Clark finds religon to be a good thing. He just sees it as something people can abuse.

In his mind, some people could say they're morning for festivals like "Maxium Occupancy" rather than be moved by it. He hopes more people genuinely embrace something higher in life.
Supergirl has posed:
Kara keeps her hands on her hips listening to what Clark has learned about the events that led to Krypton's destruction with a shallow nod. It was a long time ago, and she was far too young to remember what led to it... but she'll never forget the days leading up to his and her evacuation and the ultimate destruction. The fighting, explosions.. how terrified she'd been.

She gets a far off look in her eyes for a few seconds.

Then snaps out of it, immediately smiling as if it's a reflex response. "Hm.. oh.." She shakes her head again and shrugs, "The truth, I suppose. I went to find family back home.." The smile widens.

Kara's relationship with religion is certainly not an unpleasant one either. She believes in anything that people take comfort from in dark times. Her aversions only when the religion is used in malice.

She glances back at the house, "I'll let you get back to work.. I'm going to go say hello to Martha and, hopefully, there's some biscuits in there. You have no idea how bad I've wanted a butter milk biscuit." Her hands are held out as far as she can stretch them, "A lot, Clark. I've wanted one a lot."
