Date of Scene: 17 March 2023
Location: Themysciran Embassy - Manhattan
Synopsis: Catwoman came to Diana for answers. She might not like what she hears.
Cast of Characters: Wonder Woman, Catwoman

Wonder Woman has posed:
The Themysciran Embassy is as much a home away from the island for Diana as it is her place of work when fulfilling her duties as Ambassador. While most of her staff live elsewhere in and around New York City, a few do live on the property as do a dozen or so Amazons who serve as security and in other functions around the grounds.

In the middle of a Friday night, everyone has gone to bed or retired to their living spaces with the exception three Amazons who are patrolling the grounds.

Diana's private apartment is located on the top floor of the Embassy's east side. She is still awake, seated in the living area on acomfortable couch that faces a fireplace. There seems to be no fuel for the flames to consume, yet the licking flames radiate a comfortable warmth just the same. Quiet classical music is playing as she looks over a number of reports and briefings. She is wearing a blue tank top under an unzipped gray hooded sweatshirt and loose cream colored linen pants. Barefoot, her right leg has been tucked up under her other leg comfortably as she reads.
Catwoman has posed:
The night is still young, even as the Embassy reaches the last hour of operation for the night. But Catwoman isn't much for front doors, especially given her criminal record. Not that she came here to rob the place but she rather suspects or believes that she might not be allowed in through the front door.

The Amazon guards were easy enough to avoid, sending off little firecrackers in the opposite direction as a distraction to draw their focus one way while scaling the building on the opposite side. She blended in well with the darkness in her black catsuit as she slithered quietly up the three stories and outside the third floor apartment room of the Amazon Princess.

Once there, she considered simply picking the lock but a quick glance in shows her that Diana is still awake. Best not to give her a reason to attack her, Selina is pretty sure she'd lose.

A few minutes later she raps softly on the door, and waits...
Wonder Woman has posed:
Looking up at the sound curiously, Diana stands and closes the folders of paperwork. Setting them inside of a briefcase which she clicks shut and locks, she makes her way to the balcony door. It isn't often she is visited unannounced like this, but if someone is here there is certainly a motivation for it.

Unlocking the door, Diana opens it without checking to see who it is. She has no reason to feel threatened in her own home on the Embassy grounds. On seeing Catwoman, Diana tilts her head. "Catwoman. Hello." It certainly wasn't someone she imagined being visited by, no matter the hour.
Catwoman has posed:
Catwoman smirks at Diana, not someone she knows well. Of course she mostly stays out of the way of the other Leaguers, being mostly Batman's problem in Gotham..So it is indeed a uprise that she came all this way to see Diana of all people.

She smirks nodding to her, "Hey there, princess. Mind if I come in? I...I need to ask a favor of you.." her cool smirk slips just a bit, clearly desperate for her help but too proud to admit it. "Please.." that last part was not without effort. But she's trying.
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince didn't expect that either. However. "Yes, of course." Stepping back and opening the door farther, she lets Catwoman come inside before closing the door again. Gesturing toward the couch she offers, "Please make yourself comfortable. May I get you something?" Ever the hostess.
Catwoman has posed:
Catwoman arches a brow at the offer, shaking her head. "Let me be quick. I need your help with the lasso of truth. I need to know if I willingly aided in a potentially far reaching crime, or if I was forced to do so. And.." she narrows her eyes at Diana, "I need your word that you will not repeat any of what happens in this room to anyone else. Ever."
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince looks at Catwoman, slowly frowning as she considers what is said and what is asked. "You have come to ask for my help, Catwoman. Yes, I will offer help however I may. I will not speak of it to anyone. It is your business, not mine." She pauses. "But. I cannot say that I won't offer advice or opinion based upon what is said. You, of course, may heed or ignore any of it" she notes with a touch if a smile.

The Lasso appears in her hand - but where did it come from? She wasn't wearing her armor and it wasn't hanging off of her hip. Yet there it is in hand, the golden cord glowing softly with its gody imbued powers. Gesturing to the couch, she moves over, "Please. Join me and make yourself comfortable. Be at ease. You are safe here."
Catwoman has posed:
Catwoman bites her lip, eyeing the lasso, eyeing Diana again anxiously, warily. "They tell me you are a woman of your word, a woman of honour.." she draws a deep breath, taking a step towards the sofa, "It seems my life will be in your hands." she takes another step towards the couch but seems hesitant anxious. She is not used to putting her life, her trust into the hands of others, especially those she does not know.

"Tell me, how does it work, exactly? Will it...Hurt?"
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince raises a brow when Catwoman voices doubts about her assurance of confidentiality. "Catwoman, I do not make a practice of lying or misleading." She holds up the lasso. "I cannot weild the Lasso of Truth if I do not speak it myself. It will not yield its ablities to one who is dishonest."

Assurance hopefully given, she moves to sit near Catwoman. "The Lasso will impart upon you a compulsion to speak the truth. If you are open to this and speak truthfully, it will not be uncomfortable. However, if you resist or seek to avoid speaking the truth then you will feel a growing pressure upon your mind to return to the truth. Few resist for long. However if you should continue to struggle and resist the truth, the experience is not pleasant. Saying that it will hurt is a rather simplistic way of looking at it. It will not be like an electric shock or other harm. It is.. more of a mental discomfort. It may cause a headache the longer one struggles."

Holding the lasso in her right hand, she offers the end of the glowing cord toward Catwoman in her left. "I will not ensnare you in it. Take it in your hand willingly and wrap it once around your wrist. It needn't be tight, only that it encircles. When you wish, you may let go and no longer be compelled by the Lasso's power."
Catwoman has posed:
Catwoman nods as she listens thoughtfully, still frowning softly as she considers what she's getting herself into. "I see, then I am not entirely out of control. However, do I have your word that you will only ask me what I want to know, and nothing else? I have..lMany secrets that must remain a secret, and only one that I need to know, that is unknown to even myself."

She tries to get comfy on the sofa, holding out her hand, waiting for the lasso, waiting for one last reassurance before letting Diana wrap the lasso around her wrist. Oh but it's all so very mysterious isn't it? What exactly is Catwoman looking for, anyway?
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince's brow arches. "If I wished to force you to tell me anything, there is nothing you might do to stop me, Catwoman." The tone suggests she is a bit displeased that her word already given is not enough. Crimnals do tend toward mistrust of course.

"What is it you wish to know? It is not that you will be in a trance. You will remain fully aware of what is happening. And, again, you may release the lasso at any time."
Catwoman has posed:
Catwoman nods and sighs, "Very well.." she flexes her hand, wondering if she needs to bare her arm to feel the lasso's powers. Paranoid? A lot. And she-has reason to be..However this woman seems truthful and honourable. "A few months ago, something happened. But my memory is fuzzy. I met...A vampire. He convinced me to help him to steal things for some grand plan..Harley and Batman are slowly helping me to regain my memories but in the meantime there is something crucial I need to know. If I willingly helped him to build this evil device whatever it is, or if he forced me to do so through hypnosis? There is a difference and it matters if I ever confront him again.
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince listens silently, offering a nod in understanding.

"Very well." Pausing, she looks to Catwoman.

"The Lasso of Truth compells you, Catwoman. Speak the truth and be freed of doubt and fear. Did you willingly assist this creature, this vampire, with his plans without any other method to secure your cooperation?"

The glow of the lasso brightens as Diana uses its power. The need to answer the question truthfully is clear and strong. It can, of course, be resisted but the pressure will grow. Not unlike the need to breathe grows ever more urgent the longer someone tries to hold their breath.
Catwoman has posed:
Catwoman nods and swallows, staring anxiously at the golden rope that wraps around her wrist. It's a strange sensation, and even if that part of her memories have been largely suppressed, the feelings are still there, and so is the truth.

"I..." she swallows, "No..I...I never loved him, but he tricked me, he used me. I wanted out but he wouldn't allow it..He..Hyonotized me, pushed me against my will.." she gasps as the words just spill out, Which leaves her drained, flooded with confusing emotions.
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince listens as Catwoman reveals the answer to the question. Of course, as with everything, there are layers of truth and it is that which comes to light in Catwoman's admission.

WHen she finishes, Diana nods. "You have spoken the truth. Is there more that you wish to know? If not release the Lasso and you will be bound no longer."
Catwoman has posed:
Catwoman sighs, leaning back in the chair, "Damn...It wasn't what I wanted to hear, but it is what I wanted to know.." she seems exhausted all the same, stretching her arms above her. Maybe a little anxious even. "It sure takes a lot out of you, getting in your head like that. I don't like it.."

She frowns softly but nods to Diana, rising to her feet, "You are different than most people, straight forward and honest. I appreciate your help, Diana.." she smirks, "No wonder Bruce likes you.."
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince slowly coils up the Lasso as its glow begins to fade. "I am sorry that you had to experience the truth in this manner, Catwoman." Moving to stand, she looks at the burglar intently. "I am not most other people, Catman. I am an Amazon." Walking toward the balcony door, she opens it, "I wish you safety and health. May the gods go with you."
