Reflecting in the Watchtower
Date of Scene: 12 April 2023
Location: Arboretum, Watchtower
Synopsis: Diana and Zatanna take time to enjoy the view of Earth from the Watchtower and catching up with each other.
Cast of Characters: Wonder Woman, Zatanna Zatara

Wonder Woman has posed:
High above the Earth, the Justice League Watchtower traces its orbit around the planet and affords a breathtaking view of the nations far below that its members have sworn to protect.

At the moment it is very early morning as the tower is moving from the southwest US up and high across the city of New York. In fact its path will take it directly overhead above the United Nations building, still cast in darkness and the glow of lights from the city.

From the Watchtower's perspective, however, darkness is already beginning to fade as the sun is not long from rising and already illuminating the Earth's limb as a ever brightening halo across the orbital horizon.

Having finished her monitoring rotation a few hours earlier, Diana sits in the tower's arboretum, her favorite place to be when visiting the watchtower.

Holding a mug of hot tea, the dark haired Amazon watches that dark beauty of the Earth-in-Night as it transitions to Earth-in-Light. She can hardly hide the contented smile on her lips or the shine in her eyes.

This is surely the view of the gods as they watch over humanity themselves.
Zatanna Zatara has posed:
Despite being a member of the Justice League, Zatanna does not actually spend a lot of time in the organization's environs. She is, at times, more *consultant* than active defender of humanity. Not out of any avoidance, per se, but perhaps more because she is a working professional (the show must go on) and there are things, often, of a magical nature that require things only she (and maybe Constantine but let's be honest: the man isn't the most reliable) can manage.

It takes only once of bringing along a superhero who solves everything with punching before you decide to just Do It Yourself.

Today, however, the Mistress of Magic does find herself on the Watchtower. Having logged a report on something that's of only minor note now but could be something down the line, she's in no rush to return Earthside (even if for her it's just a matter of temporarily turning a door into a portal home).

While the Arboretum serves as a place for those who live full-time on the station to get a taste of home; for someone like Zee, it's... a literal walk in the park. Dressed in her 'working clothes' (aka The Fishnets), she meanders and wanders beneath the trees that come from all parts of the world. However, her stride slows and stops as she spots the Amazonian. A change of travel brings her to stand to one side and just marginally behind Diana.

"Good morning."
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince smiles more, genuinely. She hasn't the hearing of the Kryptonian members of the League, still she is a trained hunter and her god-blessed skills include better than average hearing in her own right. Hearing those footsteps as were some distance away Diana knew it was Zatanna just from the gait. Everyone walks differently after all. Not unlike a fingerprint.

"Good morning Zatanna" she offers warmly as she turns to look up at the magicienne, her peer and friend. "It is good to see you. I am just enjoying the quiet of the trees and plants and the view of our Home." The Earth out the windows of course. "You are welcome to join me if you've some time?"
Zatanna Zatara has posed:
Not only that: there are a limited number of people who do this thing in *heels*. Zatanna is one of them. Heeled boots, but heels nonetheless. At least they aren't stilettos. And while Zee could *probably* walk silently with a touch of magic: she's never bothered. Especially not here.

At the offer, she dips her head in a nod and moves up and around to take a seat next to the Amazon. "Thank you," she says as she settles in, blue eyes shifting to the view of Earth at dawn below. "It is a rather stunning view. See the sort of things we do and the stuff that impresses us decreases over time, but I don't think this will ever not be impressive."
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince smiles as Zatanna agrees to join her. Setting her almost empty mug on the edge of a large planter beside her, she nods in agreement.

"Yes. It is very easy to focus upon the obligations, duties, and expectations each of us must fulfill and forget much of why it is that we do it in the first place. It is good to reflect and remember. This beautiful, yet fragile planet. Our only home. And all of those who share it with us."

She shakes her head lightly. "I can think of no better reason to continue to do all of the things, the list that grows ever longer" her tone turning a bit wry, "than simply because of.. this view. It was once said by a man with much vision that before us, with the exception of the few who share the space around the planet with us, everyone who has ever lived, all of their hopes and dreams, their loves and losses... are laid out before us on this very planet."

Her smile does not fade even if there is a certain view point that would suggest she is not only of this planet but of the gods of Olympus as well. Yet the Earth? It is home.

Looking to Zatanna, she smiles with a bit of guilt over waxing philosophical. "I am sorry. I did not intend to be wordy. You have been well?" she asks as she should have to begin with.
Zatanna Zatara has posed:
"Even having seen so many other places." In Zatanna's case, that means other dimensions. Other realms. Most of which, unfortunately, are *very not good*. The sorceress leans back, propping herself up with her palms. "One of the things I love about space is there is no up or down. Depending on perspective we could be looking down at the Earth... or up at it." Not very poignant on the surface, but there are layers to the concept.

At least to her, based on the tone of voice.

As Diana apologizes, Zatanna looks over to the woman and flashes a smile. "Don't apologize. Too many of our peers are the 'strong and silent' type. Work a shift with Batman and you're lucky to get a full sentence." It's teasing, obviously, but clearly intended to make the Amazon feel better. "I have been, yes, thank you. I'm working on a new show. It's time to mix things up a bit, I think."
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince offers a smile at the insight. It is always welcome to learn what the others think of the planet. Home means something different to every individual after all.

"It is a unique way to view the perspective. I think, perhaps, that both ideas are correct. Each of them in many different ways."

Laughing quietly, she nods her head in agreement. "It is true. And he does not share the keyboard or display feed controls very well." Batman a control freak? Who knew. "Kal is always so polite and organized... Flash.." well it's Flash.

At the affirmation that she has been well, Diana looks relieved and then instantly interested and curious, "A new show. Once you have it ready to tour, I will hope to attend a performance and see it. I've no doubt it will be spectacular."
Zatanna Zatara has posed:
"Flash you at least know you'll be entertained. Same with Hal. Kal you may get some good, deep conversation from. But Batman and J'onn?" Zatanna exhales in an 'oof' colored with a soft laugh. "I'm used to reactions, responses - even a heckler is engaging. The worst thing for a performer like me is the person in the audience just staring at their phone all night. That's Batman."

"And you? I hope you're well and this isn't a rare case of Diana brooding." A brief quirk of her lips in a smile. "And I would love if you attended. Once it's ready, I'll be sure to have a ticket set aside for you." An open-ended one, surely: she knows well how chaotic the lifestyle of the strong and heroic can be.
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince arches a brow. "I do not brood." No, of course not. Those of the lineage of Olympus would -never- brood.

A slow smile curls again at her lips, teasingly. "I am well, also. Thank you. My duties with the Embassy and at the United Nations are more than enough to keep me busy, though it is not all that I do with my time" which is no small understatement, but she is rarely one to complain about too much work or too little time.

"I will look foward to it. It has been too long since I was able to see you perform. It is always a pleasure to watch a true mistress working with her craft."
Zatanna Zatara has posed:
"I know certain League members are champions of The Brood, but it is not always standing obscured in shadow, staring in silence at the object of one's discomfort." Zatanna teases a bit further before turning her attention back to the planet... though a smile still curves her lips.

"Don't forget to take time for yourself, Diana. Even with schedules as busy as ours, self-care must be considered. If we don't take care of ourselves -- mind body and soul -- we risk not being capable of caring for others." A pitfall all heroes fall into from time to time, unfortunately.

"Thank you. I hope the new show can live up to your expectations. People are very into sleight of hand these days. It's all the rage in Vegas and on the internet. And while I'm good at it, it doesn't make for the best stage performance. So I'm trying to implement elements of it into the more showy things."
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince nods, "We do agree, Zatanna. It is taking time for myself that I came to enjoy this view. And, equally welcome conversation. It is difficult to find time but, as you have said, it is no less important to make the time even if it is only briefly."

Shaking her head, she smiles, "I only expect that you will live up to your own standard. I would not put additional pressure on you. You have a singular series of talents and abilities that I do not. Seeing you displaying them for the pleasure and amazement of others is all I would hope to see. What you decide upon, I have no doubt, will be more than enjoyable."
Zatanna Zatara has posed:
"We all 'punch up' as the kids say in our own way. I can't fly, not really. It takes so much effort and concentration that doing so mid-fight or otherwise would do more harm than good. It hurts when I have to punch people in that 'oh so human' kind of way." Zatanna continues to talk while watching the sun creep its way across planet Earth.

"All that to say: we both have talents unique to us that we've learned to utilize in a way that allows us to best serve the people and situations around us. I would prefer, any day, to traipse through some demon's domain than to get into a fist fight."
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince smiles as she listens to Zatanna's thoughts. "We share that view in our own ways. I would rather deal with a conflict with thoughtful dialogue and communication. It is never with a sense of satisfation that I engage in a physical confrontation. Even when it is the only possible course of action. Neither of us are afraid to fight, nor are we incapable. But it is never a weakness to wish to avoid conflict when there are ohter avenues that might be attempted first. With dmeons, humans, or gods of war." The last is added with a sense of resignment. Her.. uncle.. is always looking to stir up some conflict or other. It is his nature.
Zatanna Zatara has posed:
It is one thing that Zatanna both does and does not understand. Family issues, yes: she has her own, in droves. But family that causes strife, conflict, and even direct harm to the general populace? That one's a mystery to her.

One she's always happy to leave a mystery, even if there is a sympathetic glance toward Diana. Recurring problems: now that's something they're *all* familiar with.

"If only everything could be solved with healthy debate. Talkative types like you and I would be unstoppable." She winks, grinning briefly before shifting to sit up with hands folded in her lap. "Complications and limitations aside, I wouldn't change it for the world. I love magic."
Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince laughs merrily. "We -are- unstoppable, aren't we?" Then she shrugs a shoulder, "If only others would agree with us." Then an overly dramatic sigh. "One day."

"I agree with you. Even when it is the most difficult. It is the life that we know. What we are placed upon the Earth to do. And gods help those who should seek to stop us or stand in our way.." she says with a conspiratorial tone and almost impish smile.
