Cast of Characters: Blink, Gambit, Maiden of Light

Blink has posed:
Early evening settles over New York like a soft blanket. Lulling drivers to use their horns a little less, helping those with normal day shifts to relax a little before the inevitable rinse and repeat of modern existence.

Which is nice and all, but not exactly /fun/ as far as a young mutant in her very late teens is concerned. It's America, so she's /pretty/ sure the legal age is twenty one, and besides, it's not like she's got fake ID anyway. Oddly, there's just not that many people on Genosha in the business of making you seem like someone else... Or at least not in Clarice's rather limited circle of friends.

Regardless! The last couple of times she's been to Mutantown, exciting things have just spontaniously happened, or at least she's made a new friend or two. So here she is again, wearing a green summer dress that leaves her arms bare and covers in loose cotton down to her mid-thigh.

Soft brown sandles leaves purple toes open to the elements, nails painted the same deep emerald green as her fingers. She's got on dark green lipstick too, though with her skin colour it's almost black in the false light. Softly glowing green eyes scan her surroundings, looking for a face she knows, or anything that catches her attention really...

Gambit has posed:
In the middle of mutant, not somewhere Remy ever thought he would be again. Not since that fateful day, years ago. But he's here an really only about three people know about that, so he's keeping to himself and stepping over towards a corner store and grabs himself a soda before stepping back out and stretching into the cooler air. "Hmmm." He sighs weakly to himself. Those ruby and obsidian eye scanning slowly, but not really searching for anything specific.

Maiden of Light has posed:
Blink and Gambit wouldn't need to wait long for 'interesting'. The sound of screeching tires and yelling can be heard as a trio of pickups come to a halt, pulling off nearly to the sidewalk. This has a few others pausing as they walk the streets or step out of workplaces or stores. A man in a suit with fox ears and a tail. A woman and her daughter that float lightly off the ground. A swarthy man in jeans standing eight foot tall. All obvious mutants, and as the gang of clear neo-nazis step out of the truck, they have beer bottles, bats, and one has a shotgun. The leader, a tall and skinny man, laughs.

"Ya damn mutants! Takin' away jobs and infecting /real/ people with yer dirty blood! We're gonna teach you all a lesson!"

That's exactly when Jeanne Laurent, a blonde slip of a girl exits the shop where the leader has confronted this small band of towns folk. Shopping bag clutch under one arm, nun's dress fluttering lightly in the cool breeze, she's staring befuddled at a map of mutant town so hard that she's not watching where she's going. Across her back, something long and suspiciously spear-shaped is wrapped in a thick traveler's bag. She looks up, having gotten in between floating mother, daughter, and skinhead.

A pause. "Uhm...what's going on?" The nun smiles, warm, innocent, even as she cringes a little at the symbols of hate on the man's flesh.

"Shut up, bitch!" And then a bat is swung at her, out of nowhere, in broad daylight. Jeanne is too stunned at the sudden violence to react, even as wood meets face and she's sent to the ground.

The other men laugh, screams start, and the group is advancing, ready to do the same to others.

Blink has posed:
Mutie-haters /again/!? She'd have thought after the last group of neo-nazi's just apparently dissapeared from the edges of Mutantown, they'd have got the message. But apparently not. Blink's already breaking into a run as soon as she see's them bursting out of the car... Her internal monologue keeping her company, but then it's time to /focus/.

The gun is the most dangerous thing, she can't do anything for the poor nun on the floor (who hits a nun!?) if there's a guy shooting at her at the same time. And so, it's a brief moment's concentration that brings a three foot long crystal shard into her hand - even as she's already extending it to throw the displacement weapon, straight into said firearm.

A purple glow around the object and a sudden -blink!- and it's no longer there. Somewhere off the New York coast, a shotgun materialises, falling into the drink with a very satisfying -bloop!-. If only someone had been there to see it. "Why not pick on someone who can fight back scum?" It's the only word that really sums them up, and besides, it draws all eyes to the mutant, and away from the innocent family and Sister.

Maiden of Light has posed:
Blink, thankfully, is both a good distraction and a swift kick in the butt. The hot pink mutant draws the ire of the pack of jerks, even as one of them spits on the fallen nun. For her part, Jeanne shakes her head enough to make the ringing go away. There's no blood where it should be. Not even a hefty bruise: for a girl of such a slight frame, she should be spitting out teeth. Instead, there's only the slightest of red to her cheek as though she'd been slapped.

Shotgun guy gives a cry, and stumbles back as that shard is tossed! That alone probably does the barrel of the weapon in, but then it outright pomfs out of his hands! "The fu...bitch!" He takes out a long, heavy chain, wrapping it around his hand. He stalks forward, meaty fist pulling back as he makes to punch Blink.

That's when a cross-shaped shield of light springs up out of nowhere, first across Blink, and then across fox-guy, and mom and daughter. Bats, fists, and other implements smack against the solid projections. One of the thugs goes down, clutching a new broken wrist. The fallen nun rises, her left hand glowing. The shields dissipate seconds later.

"The Lord weeps to see so much hatred between His Children. If your heart is so dark that you must do this, then you may do what you wish to me. However!"

That tiny, almost squeaky french voice from before carries now, confident and full of purpose.

Light envelopes the nun, and when it dissipates, she's clad in pure white armor and skirt. In her hands, she clutches a tall battle standard. It unfurls in it's full glory, motes of blessed light shining off of it.

"I am the Maiden of Light, and all who gather beneath this banner, I shall protect with my life! Repent your ways, surrender, and find salvation!"

Sadly it seems, the men aren't interested. Drunken laughter erupts, three men charging the maiden, while three more round on Blink with knives and bats. The're clumsy, but strong men, and their strikes have drunken bravado and hatred in them.

Blink has posed:
Blink's green orbs widen as the shields materialise, and they go wider still when the small nun stands up in all her Glory. And that's Glory with a capital G! The mutant's grin is firmly in place as the three close the distance on her...

Muscle memory saves her from the first unexpected swipe of a knife that had been hitherto hidden behind him, her sandaled feet skipping back a step as the sharp blade whisks past her face, parting several strands of hair from her head at the same time. Clarice actually /growls/ defiance.

"Manners..." She intones, both hands glowing that odd bluish purple, twin shards of crystal appearing as if by magic. "Maketh..." Her dark lips are pulled back in an almost rictus grin as she pivots out the way of a swinging baseball bat, her own answering volley of javelin's hitting two of the three square in the chest.

"The man." She finishes, as they too glow with the light of displacement to completely vanish from the street. The last guy, still with his chain covered fist, openly stares. "What the f-" Staring is a bad thing to do in a fight, and as the mutant backflips, she shows him the error of his ways, both feed slamming firmly into his jaw, causing the big guy to stumble back several paces.

But he doesn't go down... Bully for him. Not so good for the two female protectors of the people...

Maiden of Light has posed:
Somewhere amidst being harassed by lovely things such as bats, chains, and knives, the Maiden shoots a look to her fellow warrior mutant. She shoots a brief, warm smile, of thanks. Her eyes do widen a moment as the man outright blinks out of existance!

A matter for after the violence, though. A knife comes for her, and the holy knightess spins around her weapon. It's smacked out of the first man's hand, only for her to tilt her hips. Swinging it around horizontally, she stops just in time to whack the man on the side. It's something of a love tap, but a strong one. He takes a lovely arc, smacking against the passenger side door of one of the trucks. It leaves a skinhead-shaped dent. With a groan, he falls unconscious. With another twirl of her staff, the second man has his bat outright smashed to splinters from a two-handed downswing. A kick in turn has him falling, holding the family jewels.

The leader is a little more adept than the rest. Coming at her from the side, a two-handed blow from an aluminum bat is met by a gauntleted first. It makes the Maiden grunt. She might be tougher than steel in her armor, but that doesn't mean she's immune to pain! She can feel that blunt impact vibrating in her bone.

Not all of them are so brave. Much of the group is already packing up into their vehicle, speeding off. It's down to the leader, the goon facing down Blink, and one more driver that leans out of the truck. Suddenly, wild gunshots ring out as he first fires at the Maiden. One shot plinks off of her chestpiece, the other is half an inch away from her face. The third is met with a shield of light. An a hard bat to the chest. Shoving aside the leader, she takes a running start, and then does a classic pole vault.

Metal crunches as she lands on top of the truck's roof, nearly collapsing the thing utterly. Axles snap, and the gunman is suddenly surrounded by twisted aluminum like a cage.

Once again, she raises that banner high. "Oh Lord, I beseech you, grant this brave warrior your protection!"

That's when light would descend upon Blink herself, something close to chainmail settling around her in the same color as the Maiden's own. There's a little bit of heft to it, but nothing like metal armor. Which might be good, as that big guy is up now. And soon joined by the skinhead leader, both charging with bat and now just big fists. It's down to Blink now!

Blink has posed:
No one escapes the wrath of Blink! With tall dark and ugly concentrating on the marvelous Maiden, the young mutant has time to fling an arm out towards the truck that's trying to high tail it off down the street - ripping open a tear in front of the vehicle to... Is that the Gotham Police department Headquarters? Regardless, it's the only police station she knows, and besides, running your van into the back of a parked swat truck /must/ be some kind of violation.

Regardless, the portal snaps shut behind the flatbed - leaving the neo-nazi's to explain to a rather irate looking police woman just what the hell they're doing there. Clarice actually giggles as she turns back, just in time to take a bat to the chest - thankfully absorbed by the new mail-of-light - but still enough to send her back a few steps apparently winded.

The men snarl wickedly; "We'll at least get yoo, f'kin' mutie." It's crazy really, you'd think they'd learn. As he comes in, swinging the bat, a flick of fingers produces a small 'displacement wave' around a tiny portal no bigger than her fist - but it's enough to cut the bat clean in half, leaving the guys open for a flurry of blows from the apparently not winded Blink.

However, as they go down, so too does the purple girl sink to her knees, raggedly drawing a breath in through lungs that seem to have, for the moment at least, forgotten the right way to function...

Maiden of Light has posed:
Down goes the last pair from the glorious, agile blows of Blink! By now, the crowd is erupting into post Superhero Incident things: some crying, some in awe, and a few more long time residents of mutant town starting to try to calm people down. There's already police being called. One or two are crossing their chests and praising in low voices.

A look to the crowd, and the Maiden smiles the smile of the innocent and pure. She waves her banner high before leaping off the truck. The armor on both women fades, and she's swiftly trying to pack her banner back into that large duffel bag.

It seems no one else has been hurt, aside from some bad guys, and a whack or two to the heroines. Jeanne is rushing over to Blink as she sinks down. The short nun is already trying to shoulder Blink. Sirens are way off in the distance, but growing closer.

"Miss! Are you alright?" Comes the worried Jeanne. Looking Blink over, she smiles, wearing both worry and admiration on her face openly. Heart on her sleeve, this one.

"You were so brave! And your powers, amazing!" As the adrenaline wears off, it's Jeanne's turn to feel shakey in the knees. For all her strength, she's still learning her powers!

Blink has posed:
The girl swallows, then gives a somewhat shakier grin than usual. When she talks, there's a wheeze to her Barbadian accent. "I'm fine... That's good armour." Clarice would not like to think how she'd be otherwise. Baseball bats to the chest /hurt/.

Pushing up, she sort of leans /against/ Jeanne at the same time giving the other woman a leaning post. It's mutual leaning really, their weights giving the other something to hold up against.

"I should probably get out of here though..." Her elfin ears twitch at the oncoming sirens in the distance. "People hear 'Genosha' and just assume I'm up to no good... Or the authorities seem to anyway." She lets out a sigh, but then grins at the nun. "Wanna come? We can grab a uh, smoothie or something. I'm Blink by the way." Best to stick to code names out here, now at least.

Maiden of Light has posed:
Jeanne is happy to accept the support. She might be tough as mutant nails, but it's still draining to use her powers. The cost of being a young mutant. She clearly needs more stamina.

Still, a bright smile fills her at the offer. "Genosha? Isn't that the mutant nation? I've always wanted to visit! But, um, I don't have money for a flight..." It seems the girl hasn't quite put two and two together.

"I am the Maiden of Light! Uhh...but you can call me Jeanne. Jeanne Laurent. Or Sister Laurent if you want. I'm not picky." A small chuckle. Then a sigh.

"I...really wish everyone could just love each other, and be at peace."

Blink has posed:
"Yeah, equality for all's a bit of a distance off yet Sister, but we'll get there sooner of later." Blink's answering comment is given with a rueful grin. Her voice getting stronger as her chest starts working again. Damn autonomic responses...

"I'll cover your flight, don't you worry." The grin's still there as she slips an arm around the nun's waist, fairly easy to do as they're leaning against each other. With that done, it's a flick of the risk to -Blink!- a portal into place, through which can be seen a sandy beach with a small refreshment stand in the distance.

"Here we go, mind the edges..." The last warning is given perhaps a little late, but the mutant does her best to make sure that they both skip up over the bottom of the portal... and into soft sand. Waves lap behind them, and as the portal closes with another -Blink!- she adds; "You can call me Clarice here by the way. Just need to be 'Blink' out there."

Maiden of Light has posed:
Maiden balls up her hands, holding them up with a determined look on her face. "You're right, Miss Blink! If we all work hard, pray, and defend each other, we will find a better world! Together, we can do anything!" The naieve hope in this young sister's voice is undeniable.

But then ther's that portal. Bliiiiink. "U..umm, are you sure this is sa...safe?" Gulp. And then? Through the portal!

There's a little, girly 'eeeek' as she makes the leap. She lands on the sand with a blush and wide eyes. She almost drops her now covered standard.
