A Heart Full of Rage
Date of Scene: 07 August 2017
Location: Danger Room, Xavier's School
Synopsis: Directly following "Does This Kitchen have Deviled Eggs?" as Rahne encounters an angry Dani with Doug and Alexia involved as well.
Cast of Characters: Moonstar, Wolfsbane, Cypher, Tendril

Moonstar has posed:
Danielle heads down the lift from the main floor, nearly physically shaking in anger as she exits the lift. Her steps determined as she says to herself, "That arrogant, blue-furred jerk! How DARE he say that to me!" She grits her teeth, radiating anger as she walks towards the Danger Room. Normally she doesn't bother with the Danger Room, unless it's a team activity. She almost never does solo work here, typically she'll do some stalking across the grounds with Rahne or riding with Brightwind. But, in this case... she needs to work off some frustration.

Wolfsbane has posed:
After only recently finishing up a session of her own in the Danger Room, Wolfsbane and Sam chatted for a few minutes following that, then they went their separate ways. Just minutes later, she's almost staggered by an /intense/ flash of anger that hits her. A furred hand even goes flat against the wall to steady herself, a grimace etched on her face. It's been a long time since she's felt anything this strong from Dani through the link they share, and immediate concern is sent back, essentially asking 'Are you okay?' Then, before much longer, the elevator doors open.

Cypher has posed:
The door to the Danger Room opens, a few minutes later, and Doug walks in, juggling a bottle of water and a tupperware container full of warmed chicken wings. He doesn't know whose chicken wings they are. Because he's a bad boy. But that's neither here nor there. "Ah. It looks like I read her right. Alexia, have you seen the Danger Room before?"

He settles into the console chair and says, "I haven't seen Dani so mad in..." He thinks, "Well last time she was that mad I know she punched Sam in the face."

Tendril has posed:
The mauve mutant girl steps out after Doug, looking around curiously. "Whoa." Alexia murmurs a bit. No, never been down here before..." she admits to Doug, temporarily distracted by the shinies, before she remembers why she came down here.

She walks over by the console, leaning over to catch a glimpse of Dani then says. "Well, um...Professor McCoy sort of...lectured to her a little about usin' -Rez- as a way of talking about her reservation, an' she kinda got...y'know..." She sighs. "Okay, she blew up, but yeah, wasn't expectin' that either. Think it's just rubbed her th' majorly wrong way." She frowns. "She's usually in such a good mood." It's really the first time she can remember Dani really losing her temper rather than just being annoyed by something.

Shehe heads to the door, then hesistates, before her expression firms, pressing the button. If she needs the time to work it off, she can always leave again after she checks on her. She steps in, following after Dani. "Dani!"

Moonstar has posed:
Dani blinks as she comes across Rahne on the way to the Danger Room, and sighs, suddenly just hugging the girl tightly as the anger melts away, "Hey..." And Rahne knows, she /knows/ what Dani's feeling right now, which is a lot of pent-up rage and frustration. There's still a bit of anger in her core, though, as Dani says, "I know you were just there, but I really need to just punch something. Doctor McCoy..." She shakes her head, and mutters, "Horses' ass..." under her breath.

Then she glances over her shoulder, looking at Lexi and Doug, "Oh, hey. I just..." She sighs and slumps a bit, looking a bit drained now that the anger is just draining out of her, now that she finally gets a chance to calm down a bit.

Wolfsbane has posed:
Somewhere along the way, the two original New Mutants meet up and Wolfsbane's worried expression tells it all. "Dani, whit hap--" The hug may be even firmer than the one Sam gave her earlier, all but pinning her arms to her sides because she's slow to get them up. "Whit did he say?" she asks, risking it being brought up all over again.

She adds, "If there's frustration ye need tae work off, ye know this is th' safest place for it. Do ye want a room full o' Beasts?" Is that a joke she just made? She helps lead the Cheyenne to the right place, an arm wrapped around her waist.

Cypher has posed:
"As someone who's known Dani for years," Doug opines, "Her temper is both legendary and fearsome, but not irrational. However, I think that while Hank was trying to make a point about derogatory language... he may not have taken into account that Native Americans have felt the burn of language leveled as a weapon against their culture, used to relegate them to the status of cartoon characters or mascots, or sidekicks."

"In Canada, individuals who are partially of First Nations descent are sometimes called 'Metis'. It's french, and it means 'halfbreed'. And some First Nations peoples in Canada use that term internally to refer to themselves. However, if you're not part of that culture, best not to use that term at all, because to some it's HIGHLY offensive. But at the same time... it's best not to lecture them about using it either."

"Language is a precarious thing," Doug tells Alexia. "I've saved the Earth with it." He is more subdued, "And hurt friends very, very deeply."

He turns back to the console, and puts on aheadset. "Would you like me to set a scenario for you, Dani? ...Or would you like to fight me?"

Tendril has posed:
Alexia starts to walk forward, then halts as Dani catches up to the short redhead and gives her a firm hug. Okay. Well. She'll just give them a second, then, not wanting to intrude more than she has already.

She looks back at Doug, then nods a little as he explains. "Makes sense ta me...I mean...I didn't think anythin' of it..." she admits quietly to Doug. "She uses it all th' time, so I figured that was just how she liked ta call it, y'know?"

She watches the two embrace, looking a bit relieved that Dani seems to be losing some of the head of steam she'd built up.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani smiles at Rahne, "The arrogant jerk decided that he needed to lecture me about how calling the Reservation the 'Rez' was not sensitive to the Native American peoples." She gives Rahne a wry look, "Yes, it was as stupid as it sounds. So I may have yelled at him. A lot. But in my defense, the self-righteous nitwit deserved it." Her normal respect for teachers is definitely faded a LOT, where Hank is concerned anyway.

Dani then looks up towards the control console where Doug and Lexi are, and waves, "It's okay. Not sure if Rahne wanted to run a combat sim or not, but I wouldn't mind working off some frustration." With that, she mutters something that sounds almost... Nordic, and her civilian clothing warps and shifts, revealing her Valkyrie armor. Complete with a rather functional looking sword sheathed at her hip.

Wolfsbane has posed:
Wolfsbane makes a face at the things Dani tells her, but she still looks confused. "Why would tha' be a bad thing? It's just a shortening of a longer word, aye? How is tha' insensitive?" She knows very little about Native American customs, in spite of having been a friend to Dani for a few years now.

As they come across Doug and Alexia in the control room, she pauses and glances toward Dani, then the other pair. "Hullo, Doug. It's good tae see ye again. An' ye are..? Sorry, I dinna think we've met yet. I'm Rahne." She, of course, is asking this of the mauve girl.

Cypher has posed:
"I have nothing but respect for Hank. But he can be a bit of a pedant. When you have to be so confident in the output of your intellect... you tend to be very confident in the output of your intellect," Doug says, "But I find that with Selffriend Dani, it's best to pay attention when she tells you the first time. You may not get a second explanation."

He gets up, and takes off the headset, before he descends into the Danger Room proper. "Come on. Take a closer look," He says, to Alexia.

Tendril has posed:
Alexia raises a brow at the 'selffriend'..maybe it's an in joke? Hmm. "He's a pendant? I thought ya wore that..." she says, uncertain if she heard right, then turns back to the pair as Dani summons her valyrie gear, before she takes a last glance back at Doug before making her way over to see, curious about the room now.

"Nice ta meetcha. I'm Lexi." she says, offering a hand to Rahne, as she smiles in a friendly way, flashing slightly longer than normal canines. "Dani's talked about ya some, nice ta finally meetcha." She looks over to Dani then back to Rahne. "This is a practice thing? A combat sim?" she says, a little uncertainly. "Um...is it okay if I...watch or..join?" she says slowly. Something about the idea of a combat training thing striking a chord with her, for some reason.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani smiles over at Rahne, "Yeah, Rahne, this is Alexia, my roommate. Well, /a/ roommate, we can set up a bunkbed for you to join us in there. You know I live light." She hugs Rahne again, and nods to Alexia, "This, is the Danger Room. The holographic projectors can create almost anything, any setting, any environment, any enemies." She grins, "I was going to do some sort of combat simulation, hadn't decided what yet. But you can definitely join in."

Wolfsbane has posed:
"I'm sorry ye had tae deal wi' tha'," Wolfsbane says, going on to say, "I dinna think he really meant it th' way it came off, but I dinna understand why he'd say a thing like tha' tae ye, Dani."

Then, she pauses at something Doug says, turning back to Dani with an arched brow as she mouths the word 'selffriend' questioningly. That seems..odd. "I..think I'm all right wi' muh own room, or just one roommate. It's good tae have a wee bit o' privacy."

Alexia draws a brief smile from her, saying almost sheepishly, "I hope she's been saying nice things. I just got back from Muir Island th' other day. It's over on th' other side o' th' Atlantic. An' ye all feel free tae do whit ye like. I just got done wi' muh own session an' I'm fine wi' watching."

Before the others do make their way in, she bites her lip, approaching the only male in here. "Hey..Doug? I'm sorry if I forgot tae mention this before, but someone reminded me about it an' I just..wanted tae thank ye for whit ye did. Before, I mean. Ye know?" She tries to awkwardly steal a quick peck at his cheek before stepping back, hands clasped behind her by the time Dani makes her swich into Valkyrie mode. No doubt that makes her think of Asgard. "Ooh."

Cypher has posed:
Doug blinks, and when Rahne kisses his cheek, the apples of his broad face turn deep pink, and he gives a little smile. "Oh. Well." He says, looking surprisingly demure, "I'm not--" He smirks, and looks away, briefly. "Gosh. It's okay, Rahne, it's... it's okay. It really is." He unzips his hoodie and takes it off, before he stands there in his Xavier's School t-shirt.

"Danger Room, please call me up the broadsword from my Live Action 'Heroquest' sim." A broadsword, a good four feet of glimmering steel appears in the air in front of Doug, and he takes it by the hilt, testing it. "Okay."

He looks over to Dani, and says, "We can do a full combat sim in a minute. I'd like to test my powers against a trained combatant, if you'd be willing to oblige me? I beat the Sim of you I programmed based on your Danger Room data, but sims are nothing compared to the real thing."

Tendril has posed:
"Mostly nice." the petite pinkish mutant assures Rahne. "But it's really nice ta meetcha in person finally." She grins a bit, then hmmms, letting her walk past as she goes to peck Doug on the cheek, raising a brow as she watches Dani armor up.

She's a bit more suprised when Doug summons a sword. Mostly because WOW that's really COOL! Also, Doug with a sword. Not something she was expecting, though she moves back to join Rahne as Doug challenges Dani to a duel. "Wow...didn't know he could swing a sword." she says curiously to Rahne.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani grins and draws her own sword, the pattern-weld of the blade glinting in the light. "Alright, Doug, let's see what you know. Though I think I'd need to program in a few more tricks to that sim if you beat her that easily." She twirls the blade, then assumes a guard position, "Come on, then, let's play." Her eyebrows arch a bit under her helm, as she shifts just a bit, adjusting her footing.

Wolfsbane has posed:
"Ahh, Asgard.." Wolfsbane murmurs almost..dreamily? She must have a nice memory of the place.

Snapped out of it after Doug replies to her, she nods and rubs the back of her neck, a common thing for her to do when she's feeling awkward. She does seem curious about what Dani and Doug are setting up to do, telling Alexia, "I hope they have th' safeties on for this. An'..I didna ken he could use a sword either. He did get stronger, I noticed. So, whit do ye think o' th' place so far? Is this yuir first time doon here?"

Cypher has posed:
Doug's forearms and biceps flex and tense as he readies the blade. He has no formal training. But there is a strength there, a surety, and a confidence. He raises the blade and hacks it downward at Dani, letting out a cry of exertion. The blades spark as they meet, steel on steel, and Doug holds, in a clinch, as long as he can.

"I can read the language of combat." He says, "And converse in it too. I know what you're going to do before you do--" And then he swings a headbutt at Dani's exposed mouth.

"And I know what you're not expecting!"

Tendril has posed:
Alexia cocks her head, watching the pair inside then looks at Rahne, smiling wryly."Didn't even know this was here until Doug led me down here." she admits. "I mean, I remember Professor Grey sayin' somethin' about there being a room for trainin', but haven't gotten around to explorin' everythign yet." There's libraries to plunder, after all! "Do ya do a lot of trainin' like this down here?" she says curiously, meeting Rahne's eyes thoughfully. "I mean...like for self defense or somethin'? Or some sorta class?"

Moonstar has posed:
Dani yelps and falls back a bit, actually crashing towards the ground as the headbutt seems to have surprised her. However, she places her hands down to catch herself, twisting as she suddenly scythes a leg through Doug's ankles to try and knock him off balance. Continuing the spin, she sweeps her other leg through a moment later, using that momentum from the spin to pick herself back up, sword still in hand, "Sneaky trick, Doug. You've been learning." She sounds rather ruefully admiring of that.

Wolfsbane has posed:
Wolfsbane grimaces as if she felt part of Doug's attack on Dani. Any more of that and she might have to..do something. "Ahh, we can use it for all sorts o' things. Pretty much anything ye can imagine, it can duplicate tae th' point ye think it's th' real thing. I've done most o' muh training doon here, aye."

She glances toward the other student for a few seconds, wondering, "So whit do ye do, tha' ye ended up here?"

Cypher has posed:
Doug gets caught at the ankle and he falls backward, holding the sword out away with him as he rolls with the impact, and then he uses his sword to push himself to his feet. "I learn every day." He says. He brings on the attack again. "I will be prepared to defend myself, and others." This time the blade comes in low, an upward scything arc -- and then he's moving in to shoulder-block Dani, trying to use his height and weight to his advantage and unbalance the Cheyenne that way.

Tendril has posed:
Alexia winces a little as she watches the fight, finding herself suprised. She really shouldn't be about Dani, but she's never seen her in action, and her respect for Doug shoots up quite a bit as she sees him holding his own. Huh.

"Well..." she says, turning her golden gaze on Rahne again. "I grew up in Mutant Town. Well, under it, really. But..." She shrugs slightly. "...things happened. Ended up on th' streets for a while." She grins a bit sheepishly. "...then a few months back there was a little incident with borrowin' a police interceptor." She grumbles, rubbing her neck a bit "...an' I'm sure I would have figured out how ta drive it properly if I hadn't hit th' SWAT van, but I wasn't exactly drivin' well to begin with and...' She waves it off. "Um, long story short, th' officer who arrested me knew about this place, an' he brought me here. Said that it'd be a better place an' more stable an' stuff. An' Professor Xavier agreed ta foster me here." From her tone, she's still as suprised by it as anyone else. "...he's a pretty cool guy, he's been...real nice. Everyone's been nice here." she admits, with a faint smile, if a shy one.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani made a mistake once, in that she wasn't factoring in Doug's improved strength and size, and he's a bit bigger than she remembers. Possibly stronger. But still, she's quick, and experienced, blocking the sword strike and turning away from the shoulder-block. Rolling with it, she tries to shove Doug off-balance as the resistance he'd expect on that block just wasn't /there/.

Cypher has posed:
Doug only has about three inches in height on Dani... but almost 30 pounds. He's a stocky guy, thick-necked and strong. He is reading her maneuvers and adapting with remarkable quickness; he truly is picking on the subtlest cues of beginning motion, of movements that lead into other movements, and reacting. When she avoids the swing of his blade, instead of wheeling it around, he aims a pommel-strike, which glances off armor. He's sweating with exertion, his grip tightens on the hilt of the blade -- but she pushes him off-balance, which creates an opening, and then her sword is at his throat. Checkmate. Doug looks at that Asgardian killer, and opens his hands, letting his holographic blade drop to the floor with a heavy clatter. "I yield."

Wolfsbane has posed:
Wolfsbane winces again, though this time it's more from the story Alexia tells her. "I'm starting tae think naebody came here through a way tha' was no' strange a' all." It underscores the fact none of them are exactly normal. "But I was asking whit ye do. Yuir abilities." She smiles briefly as she says this, for it sounds like the purpose of the question had been misinterpreted. Naturally, she's curious while also studying the encounter between the two other mutants. In mere moments, Doug is suddenly at a disadvantage and giving in. "Tha'..was fast." She might not have to do the thing she was about to, after all.

Cypher has posed:
"There was no response I could have made that would have saved my head." Doug says. "Surrender was the only option."

Tendril has posed:
"Oh! Right." Lexi says, her attention drawn back out into the fight for a moment as she grins at the end. "She got 'im..." she says cheerfully, then turns back to Rahen, before holding out her arm. A moment later a long tendril purplish tendril sprouts out the muscle of her forearm, coiling to the floor, before flexing up like a snake slowly. "My whips. Dunno what they're actually called, but that's what I call 'em." She shrugs. "People where I used ta live, they used to call me Tendril cuz of it."

Moonstar has posed:
Dani actually looks to have... broken a sweat, which is a bit odd for her as she sheathes her sword, offering Doug a hand up, "Not bad at all. You've gotten much better than you were in Asgard." She grins and slaps Doug on the arm once he's upright, "I daresay there isn't a serving maid in Asgard that could stand up to you now." She winks at the boy, obviously having some sort of inside joke with that.

Cypher has posed:
That makes Doug scowl. "That serving made had a savage backhand." He says, before he moves to peel his shirt off and use it to wipe the sweat off his face. "I've begun combat drills. Hand to hand and with firearms. And Sam and I are working out together every day." He holds his shirt, and stands there, "I will be ready."

Wolfsbane has posed:
Wolfsbane keeps one eye on the proceedings in the Danger Room, the other on Alexia as the tendrils comes out from the other girl's arm, goes down, then winds its way back up. "Och..! Tha' is verra..it's definitely unique!" she declares, finding herself not at all sure what to make of it at first sight. "Does this mean ye were a Morlock?" the wolfen one wonders, her head tilting toward one side. And, there goes Dani, talking about Asgard again. Each time leaves her looking like she could start to daydream, a briefly distant look coming and going.

Tendril has posed:
The question from Rahne causes her to perk a bit. "Yeah, you know about th' Morlocks?" she says curiously. "Not a lot of people do, outside of Mutant Town, usually." Her lips twitcha bit as she watches Rahen's eyes get a bit dreamy as she listens to the talk of Asgard. Rather than being offended she seems to find it sort of cute she keeps getting distracted.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani grins at Doug, though does she blush a little at the mention of Sam? That might be one there, even as she says, "Well, good. Sam'll put you through your paces. If you want me to give you some more training with hand to hand weapons, I probably know a little more than he does. Or my holosim version of myself." She tries not to think of that being weird. It feels a little weird.

Cypher has posed:
"Actually based on the Danger Room data, Illyana is more dangerous with a sword than you by point six percent." Doug murmurs, perhaps making a little joke, before he says, "But I'll take you up on that. I have holographic versions of everyone for combat drills. You, Sam, Bobby, Rahne, Xi'an, Illyana. If I can hold my own against each of you individually, and all of you as a group, I can take on anyone."

Wolfsbane has posed:
"There are people much more poweful than us, Doug. Dinna forget tha'," Wolfsbane reminds, saying so in a..cautious tone. He learned that as well as anyone possibly could. "I mean, I know ye go' a second chance an' all, but none o' us are..ye know. We can all be hurt an' I dinna want tae see..it..happen again." Yes, she's worrying that Doug might be getting overconfident, but she's still trying to figure out why.

All she says to Alexia is, "Aye. We've..known about th' Morlocks for a while noo." This, said with the appropriate gravity of one who has dealt with heavy tragedy. Fortunately for Dani, it's a brief thing. To her, she adds, "We should talk some more about Asgard later on."

Tendril has posed:
"Yes! I still wanna have storytime for this..." Alexia notes, grinning at Dani. "Ya haven't talked a huge amount about it yet, an' ya gotta have great stories." She bounces on her toes a bit. "Hey, maybe we can have a movie night? Like when Doug stopped by last time..." She looks to Rahne. "...actually, we got th' big room too, if you don't mind roomies?" she says curiously. She's not sure how private a person Rahne is, but figures she'd at least offer. The more the merrier in her case...she hasn't really had roomies before, and she'sa bit overly excited about the idea honestly.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani smiles at Doug, "Yeah, what Rahne said. Keep in mind too, that our holograms aren't gonna use our powers, either. And in a real fight, that's something else you'll have to factor in." She squeezes his arm a bit, "You've come a long way, but a wise warrior knows when to be cautious."

Dani then grins over towards Rahne, feeling some of the daydreaming feelings. "Wait, Asgard... sure we could. Whenever you wanted to Rahne." Then she looks over at Alexia, "Yeah, the Asgard trip was... definitely something. Don't listen to Doug, though. It was a really wild time all the way around." With that, she mutters again in that quasi-Nordic tone, her armor and weapons fading away to leave her back in her denim shirt and jeans. "Man, /that/ is a handy trick, let me tell you." She grins at Lexi, "See you back in the room." And with that, she heads out of the Danger Room, waving to the others as she worked off that tension.

Cypher has posed:
Doug says, "I would like another look at the Enchantress's library. The rest of it?" Doug wiggles his hand. "Eh. Now if you'll excuse me..." He says, heading back for the Danger Room control room, "Sam's chicken wings have gotten cold. Does anybody else want one?"

Wolfsbane has posed:
"I'm all right wi' muh own room for noo, or maybe one other tae share it wi'," Wolfsbane replies, though she sounds more open to things like a movie night based on further reactions. Concerns over Doug's bravado appear satisfied for the time being, and she does come off as somewhat eager to discuss Asgard further when Dani aounds open to it. "Good. I've just had a few things on muh mind lately from there. But..I'm hungry. I'm gaunae go find something tasty."

Tendril has posed:
Alexia waves to Dani, relieved to see she seems to be back to her old self. "See ya soon!" she says cheerfully. On cue, as Doug and Rahne both mention food, Alexia's stomach growls. LOUDLY. She was in the middle of doing something about that, but then Dani ran off. "...right. Move that we adjourn to th' kitchen for snacks then!" she says, walking over to snag one of the wings, then heading for the elevator. "Last one there has ta try the mystery meatloaf!"
