Cast of Characters: Akula, Moonstar

Akula has posed:
It's a lovely evening at Breakstone Lake, a perfect place to watch the sunset, to contemplate, or just to be alone for awhile. The sun is getting lower in the sky, the birds are singing evening songs. Frogs splash into the water, and a pair of great herons are walking through the reeds, looking for small fish to catch.

Beneath the surface, a larger fish is moving around, just visible a foot down. Every so often, a tall fin rises above the water and sinks.

One of the teachers at the local school had made contact just a short time ago. Word might have gotten around about a strange mutant living in the lake.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani was flying over the lake with Brightwind, as she often does... but that's when she senses it. It's something below the waters, something akin to the bond she has with Rahne. Like an animal, but not really. Frowning to herself, she urges Brightwind to the shore, the winged stallion landing and slowing to a halt so that Dani can slip off.

Once she's off the horse, Dani walks up to the shore of the lake, seeing the glimpses of that shark as she reaches out with her empathic abilities, trying to get a better sense of what's out there...

Akula has posed:
What's in the lake is as incongruous as a flying horse outside of mythology: It is animalistic to be sure, but the type of animal its based on should be swimming in the dark beneath the waters around the border of the Arctic Ocean and the Atlantic.

It's a shark, a hybrid of sleeper and thresher. It's already put a small dent in the apex predator fishes of the lake.

It's already aware of Dani's presence.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani doesn't flinch, but she senses that hunger, that timeless ache in her belly that needs to be filled, something otherworldly... but still, beneath that, there's a little something, like Rahne. And she whispers, "Hoka hey, come on big girl. Don't be afraid. And don't try to eat me either." She grins a little, crouching at the edge of the shore, looking out at the lake as she doesn't know /why/ a shark is there, just that there is one.

Akula has posed:
Intrigued by the smell and the sight (the horse haunch does look kind of appetizing), the fin submerges, then resurfaces on a path towards Dani. Closer to shore, the creature beneath rises out of the water, standing up on two legs. She's big - just a foot or so shorter than Juggernaut, and her build is halfway between pin-up and bodybuilder.

She has a smirk on her face, orange eyes bright around dark slate-gray skin. She stops to push long hair back over her shoulders, adjusting the tattered rags of a white t-shirt and cut off jean shorts, both waterlogged.

"Privyet!" she calls out in Russian. "I am feelink you from shore. Is no fun, cannot sneak up on you," she complains playfully.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani actually looks a bit comforted by the accent, "Oh no, you're not another one of Piotr's sisters he never mentioned, are you?" She sounds half-joking about that as she gives the shark-woman a wave, "I have a friend that's linked to a wolf, and I sensed it was pretty similar to you. A bit more... primal, though." She smiles, "I'm Dani, by the way."

Akula has posed:
"Akula," she introduces. "Are plenty of Piotrs back home, but I have no family," she explains as she walks towards shore. Her body makes waves as she moves, the displaced water sloshing and swishing, sending ripples back outwards. Her tail sways almost with a mind of its own along the surface of the water, dragging mud and pebbles with it.

"Is good to meet you, Dani." Orange eyes go to the horse. "... are you goink to eat that?"

Moonstar has posed:
Dani blinks, "No eating Brightwind!" The horse, meanwhile, neighs indignantly and faces Akula, snorting a bit as he clearly understood what she was asking it seems. She shakes her head, "He's a stallion of the Valkyrie, you can't eat him!" She doesn't quite know if she's serious or not... but best to be sure.

Akula has posed:
Akula chuckles. "Okay, is your horse." She was only half joking. A whole horse would sustain her for a good while, and there aren't many of those in the thick of the large cities nearby. None she could snatch without being too noticed, anyways.

"I am hearink there is school nearby, from little blue demon-priest. Also there is being 'Logan' that is spikey when angry," she explains. "Is soundink like fun to play with."

Moonstar has posed:
Dani grins, "Well, yeah, there's a school nearby for... gifted people. Like me. And I suppose like you." She smiles a bit, "We actually have a lot of Russian students already, and so's our art teacher. He's pretty nice." She relaxes a bit, since Akula isn't going to eat Brightwind.

Brightwind still looks leery at Akula though, not nearly as mollified as his rider is.

Akula has posed:
"'Gifted'." She rolls the word on her tongue. Yes, she supposes she's gifted. "If by that you are meanink born freak."

The giantess comes to the shore and has a seat on it, noticing the horses unease. "Sorry horsie. If makink feel better, you are fine lookink animal, da?"

Moonstar has posed:
Brightwind snorts a bit, sounding somewhat mollified, though he does keep a respectful distance. And Dani hrms, "Well, I wouldn't think that, but I guess a lot of people would, huh?" She sighs a bit, looking at Akula, "But most of us are pretty different, Akula. And we don't judge people based on how they look. Or at least, we try not to." She smiles, "Sounds like you met Mr. Wagner already, anyway, from the sounds of it."

Akula has posed:
"Yes. Germanski. Only one I do not wish to bite head off of," Akula agrees. She's ... kind of blunt, really. "He is the one suggesting meeting 'Logan'. Is good. I am hopink he fights." There's a definite predatory grin across her lips as she voices that desire.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani laughs a bit at that, "Oh yes, that he does. He fights pretty well, too. I think you'd like him." She's getting a better feel now for her moods, the bond not... even remotely close to what she has with Rahne, but it's mostly because sharks and wolves are so different. "Did you want to come up for anything? I mean, you're more than welcome to the lake if you're comfortable here."

Akula has posed:
Akula sighs, the smile fading a bit. "Is difficult. I have been out of contact with the world for thirty years, since the fall of the Union. Am soldier. There is no place for the soldier of a dead nation." She places her hands on her hips, looking out over the water, the sky starting to turn the glowing hues of evening. "I haff nothink. Not sure what to be doink now. Am wishink there was war. Then I would know what to do."

Moonstar has posed:
Dani nods, the empathic link definitely showing she sympathizes with that, "Yeah, I can see that, Akula." She hmms a bit, "Well, the school could use a swimming coach?" She jests, of course, but it's not entirely a joke either, as... well, Akula can sense enough that Dani finds Xavier's a good place for people without a place otherwise.

Akula has posed:
That makes Akula break out into peals of laughter. "Ahahahah!" Swimming instructor! The very image of it - her plowing through the water at close to seventy miles an hour while the others were struggling to keep their heads above the surface. The giantess appears uncomplicated, something closer to the bare necessities of wild creatures, without the pretense that humans so often get tangled in. Eat when you're hungry, sleep when you're tired, play when there are others around to join in.

"Am probably not beink good teacher. Is... actually better if not around small children."

Moonstar has posed:
Dani grins, "Yeah... that's probably a good idea. But if you ever wanted to visit, I'm sure you'd be more than welcome." She shakes her head a bit, looking amused, watching the sun settling down into the horizon, enjoying the sunset. "How long have you been in the lake? I hadn't seen you there before..."

Akula has posed:
"Two days," Akula answers. "Was in Mutant Town before, that. Fighting there for fun. Was big man, 'Juggernaut', there. He was very fun to fight." Slowly, bit by bit, her English is cleaning up. It only took a couple of weeks. "Before that, catchink fish in harbor, tryink to remember how to read Americanski on papers to see what year it was."

Moonstar has posed:
Dani nods, "Well, if you want, I can see about getting Piotr out here. Art teacher, big guy, you'd like him I think." She grins, "He's a really nice guy. Soul of a poet. But um... don't tell him I said that." She blushes just a little bit.

Akula has posed:
"If you want. Would be nice to know what became of Mother Russia after the glastnost-loving [insert horrific Russian profanity here] got done killink it." Welcome to the language of the Russian military, Dani. Akula was kind enough not to make Kurt's ears catch fire with it.

"I am not thinkink he will like me much, da? I am Spetznas. We are only good for three thinks: Fighting, drinkink and [censored]."

Moonstar has posed:
Dani chuckles, "Well, I wouldn't know how he does there, I know he's good at fighting, wouldn't know the other two." She blushes a bit, sensing the meaning of the profanity if not the actual words, though she does blink, "Spetznas? Wow, that's pretty intense... you'd definitely like Logan, then." She grins a little, visualizing THAT meeting in her head. "Anyway, I should probably get Brightwind into the stables. But it was nice to meet you Akula." The oddest thing? She actually means it, and you can tell she does in the link.
