Synopsis: Mon-El and Lyle have a chat.
Cast of Characters: Mon-El, Invisible Kid

Mon-El has posed:
Mon-El was actually pacing on the bridge of the Legion Cruiser.  His face belies the consternation he was feeling as he read Brainy's log in regards to the Fantastic Four and Valeria.  Without noticing it, his pace picks up speed until he was pacing at near-Flash levels of speed.  Stopping when he realises what he was doing, Mon took a deep breath, and then moves his hands behind his back in a traditional "at ease" pose.
"Okay.  He was just being Brainiac.  I can handle that.  Even if he did overstep his authority and…."  Stopping again as Mon starts to become angry once more, Mon-El reads the log and sighs.

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle wanders in at the tail end of the high-speed pacing—well, more accurately, a small black kitten floats in at about the height of Lyle's shoulder, so it's a fair guess that's exactly what she's perched on, even if Lyle's not in sight.
He grins at the comment, and fades back into view.  "There are so many things covered by 'Brainy just being Brainy', you know.  Anything specific, or just general smugness above and beyond the call of duty?"

Mon-El has posed:
Looking back over his shoulder, Mon-El nods, and says, "You know, you are right.  And that shouldn't be the way it is."  Mon sighs, shakes his head, and brings up the log again.  "I see that Brainy made a deal with this Reed Richards, and got something called 'vibranium'?  That is good.  What I am concerned about is this situation with his daughter, this girl named Valeria.  And Lu."  Mon looks at Lyle.  "I am concerned at the effect of the timeline, amongst other things.  Please tell me this is a good idea?"

Invisible Kid has posed:
"I…" Lyle begins uncertainly, contemplates a couple seconds, then settles on blunt honesty rather than tiptoeing around all the potential issues, "…don't know."  Well, that was useful.  "A lot of the work Richards has done is really not that far off from what we take for granted, technologically.  Working with metas closer to her own age will probably be good for their daughter—how many of us would have loved to have had a superpowered mentor growing up?  And there's no two ways about it, we needed the vibranium and I can think of worse deals that could have been made for it."
He perches on a console.  "It's not optimal, I know.  And who knows, if we end up stuck in this timeline longer than we plan, we may need to start training the next crop of new Legionnaires from this world anyway."

Mon-El has posed:
"I understand.  You can't know everything he does."  Mon-El frowns.  "It really isn't a big issue.  He just needs to let me know what is going on I suppose."  Mon shakes his head and adds, "You do have a point though.  If we are stuck here, allies will be important.  Or we could all spend some time in the Phantom Zone.  Again, in at least one case."  Mon frowns.  "You are always good at bringing things into perspective Lyle.  Thanks."  Mon nods.

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle nods, resting his hands on the edge of the console and leaning back a little.  "And maybe despite his protestations, he let himself get used to being in charge and hasn't yet let himself get used to not being in charge anymore.  I know how relieved I was to not be elected, and I have a fair guess he'd rather not have done as well as he did, but once you get used to the responsibility, it becomes a reflex.  I know, I've been leader before, and it's hard to let go of the feeling that you need to be responsible for everything, even when you're not officially responsible anymore."
He reaches up to pet the kitten, then scoops her down to cradle her in one arm and scritches her happily.  One almost doesn't need super-hearing to hear the purr.  "I think working with Richards and his team will be a good thing, anyway.  We're going to need to have some sort of connection to this era, even if we try to keep it at arm's reach to avoid temporal contamination."  He leans over and adjusts the bridge temperature control up a notch.  "And anyway, between Brainy and I, we can probably safely judge what tech would be within Richards' reach and therefore safe to share if necessary."

Mon-El has posed:
"Maybe so.  Good point."  Mon-El nods, and takes a moment before continuing.  "It is a lot of responsibility, especially considering the situation we are in."  Mon hrms, and nods.  "I'll 'cut him some slack', I think I heard someone say the other day.  Give him a break.  Huh.  Another 21st century term.  I guess it is starting to influence my use of language."  Mon nods.
"You are right though.  Working with Richards is a good idea.  He's brilliant, in an 'irritate Brainy' kind of way."  Mon-El smiles.  "I will hope you will rein in Brainy's enthusiasm though, so we don't go too far."  Another pause.  "Yes, temporal contamination would be very bad.  We already have done damage to the timeline… we need to be more careful."  Mon nods.  "As it is, I'd like to meet this team.  The Fantastic Four.  They seem interesting."

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle can't help but laugh.  "Me?  Rein him in?  C'mon, Lar, you know if anyone's likely to be hovering over his shoulder going 'No, do THAT!' because it'll make the boom bigger, it'll be me!"
He perches Shadow back up on his shoulder.  The tag hanging from her collar, predictably, is black with a white lower-case 'i'.  "Anyway, Brainy's the expert on temporal dynamics, and he has a theory that the timeline is self-healing.  I hope he's right, but yes, we should be careful anyway."

Mon-El has posed:
"Fair enough."  Mon-El relaxes a bit, and crosses his arms across his chest.  "I trust you Lyle.  I know you have a good head on your shoulders, and I can trust you to be responsible."  That was subtle.  As in, he could trust Lyle but not Brainy.  "I appreciate your thoughts and advice.  In this time of difficulty for all of us, it is good to know you are here."
Mon-El moves forward, and places his left hand on Lyle's shoulder, avoiding the kitten.  "Thank you my friend."  Lar smiles and nods.  "I hope the timeline is self healing… for all our sakes."  He releases Lyle and smiles.
