Nature Puts Down The Folly of Man
Date of Scene: 19 August 2017
Location: Metropolis
Synopsis: A huge monster emerges out of the sea, and many heroes join to turn it back.
Cast of Characters: Traci 13, Terra, Aquawoman, Stargirl, Aquaman, Star Sapphire, Supergirl

Traci 13 has posed:
It had been just over two days since The Defier, a two-pilot submarine had investigated the Deep Challenger, the absolute deepest trench within the Atlantic Ocean. It had explored, drilled, and investigated for pockets of exploitable resources, wealth. And, it had left.
Ever since then, fishing had been ... off. Almost from the trench, in a straight line to Metropolis, where The Defier was based, fisheries were coming up completely empty on what, a day or two before, were almost decadent pulls of nets and line. Several vessels had even reported strange migrations of fish, sharks, and even whales. It had made people scratch their heads, curse, and ask questions about what was happening. But nobody at all was asking the -right- questions. At least, not on the surface.

Now, the waters of Metropolis Bay begin to froth. To bubble, and boil. Fish. Fish like people have never seen before. Fish en masse. Fish of all sizes. Fish swimming on top of fish. Fish jumping into boats, not the strange flying fish. Tuna. Salmon. Flounder. Several Marlin. They are all swimming, swimming towards the shore. An Orca pushes through the near pure mass of fish at the shoreline, and beaches itself.

In the distance, far out to sea, the water begins to crest. A large cargo boat is suddenly lurching off the water, and then, no longer in the water. Instead, it's resting a a dark green crest of boney ridges and scales.

Terra (1034) has posed:
The water is not her domain, by any means. Thus, Terra is currently unaware of the trouble heading towards shore. She's in Metropolis after having helped with a car crash on one of the city's many bridges (that constantly end up being broken and smashed up), and the repairs to said bridge afterwards, strengthening and fixing it until it could be used safely again.

That done, she decided she'd take a little time to explore Metropolis, having not really gotten to visit the city much previously. And, after a day of playing tourist, ended up at the beach.

Where she's currently assisting several children with building the most boss sand castle EVER. It's currently big enough that the children can actually run inside, and stable enough that there's no worry about it collapsing. She figures she can let it crumble again once they're done playing.

Thus, the sudden arrival of the fish...especially the Orca! - grabs her attention immediately as she blinks. "Oh no..." she breathes out, already moving over. She's heard surface fish do this sometimes! Maybe she can get it back in the water if she's careful?

And then she sees the surge in the water.

She whirls around. "Okay kids! We're going to play a new game! Let's, um, race back to your parents as fast as you can and I'll meet you there!" She shoos them off quickly, then shouts to the other beachgoers, some of which are drifting towards the beached orca. "EVERYONE! Please move towards the parking lot at a calm but rapid pace!"

She's not really good at this sort of thing yet.

Aquawoman has posed:
Mera had been near the beach as she as she noticed the strange group of fish jumping into boats. "What in the name of Poseidon?" Mera manages to say to herself just before the Orca beaches itself. "All right...that's not good." She says as she begins to change into her normal underwater adventures outfit.....AND grab her Bident.

By the time she gets back to where she was, she notices the strange sight off shore. "And that's even worse." She doesn't even wait before she LEAPS from where she is and into the water.

Of course, Terra might notice the red haired woman leap over her from a good distance away.....and dive into the water. It'd be kinda hard to miss......

Stargirl has posed:
Courtney Whitmore had been reading through and struggling with (as usual) Ted Knight's notes on cosmic energy and the underlying theories that lead to his breakthrough creations of the Gravity Rod and later the Cosmic Rod. Needing a break, she checked her phone, only to see the reports of strange ocean happening. She popped another Adderall and chased it with the last of her soda. "Back to work, I guess."
Soon she's dressed in her costume and she's flying out over the city and eventually the water. Stargirl comes, a golden comet until she nears, then the blonde girl in blue and red and white comes into focus. "What the...?"

Aquaman has posed:
Further out at sea, past the rising form of the creature, another crest of water begins forming. It would not be hard to mistake this formation of water as signs of another of these monstrous creatures arriving on the eastern seaboard, that however, would be a mistake.

Beneath the water, near the surface is Aquaman, swimming at incredible speeds to approach the emerging monster, kicking up quite the impressive wake behind him, calculated to minimize the wave's impact on the beaches before him, yet fast enough to bring him in towards the scene of the impending attack.

Star Sapphire has posed:
Carol Ferris has been living in Metropolis ever since Ferris Aircraft moved. Hell, she's pretty much been living at Ferris Aircraft, come it to that; by preference. She'd rather work than spend idle hours at home.
The complex is near to the ocean. That was a bit of self-indulgence on Carol's part: the testing fields are all in deserts, and after years spent in them, Carol just wanted to see some water that didn't come from Culligan while she worked. That's how she sees the boat lifting out of the water. Her eyes widen in shock, and her hands plunge into the hair at her neck to find and unfasten the clasp of the necklace that her power ring dangles from, hidden in her blouse. She pulls the chain out so fast its links rasp like a zipper being pulled open across the ring's crystal curve, and she jams it down her middle finger. Her business-smart attire vanishes, replaced by Star Sapphire's gleaming latex, and then Star Sapphire vanishes as well, cloaked in the ring's invisibility as she takes long strides to the balcony--no point inviting people to notice purple comets routinely flying from her office, after all--before launching into the air toward the bay. Once she's over the water, she drops the cloaking effects and looks down grimly, considering her options. How can she save the ship without it crumbling under its own weight?
She smiles a little. It needs cushioning, of course.
Star Sapphire gestures toward the ship, and violet light flies in an ever-expanding beam toward the ship to engulf its hull in a giant marshmallow, one impaled on a titanic stick as if ready for the campfire that will toast it. Star Sapphire doesn't let herself wonder if that's an omen as she slowly, carefully lifts the ship up away from the gargantuan head it rests on. Losing her concentration now is a terrible idea; hurrying and shaking people loose is a worse one.

Supergirl has posed:
In town for a visit with the Kryptonian side of her family, Supergirl was flying over the city on the way to her destination when she caught sight of the fish frenzy out of the corner of her eye. She pauses, hovering in the air and watching the explosion as all the fish rush toward shore. Seeing the orca beach itself, she is streaking down toward the beach and landing near the creature. But her eyes are on the water where something else is stirring.
"What in the world...?" she muses softly to herself as she rises into the air again. But no, the orca needs to be gotten to safety and there are other heroes approaching the big whatever that is out there. She goes through the mental encyclopedia of animals she knows and nothing seems to fit the bill.
"Quickly, up off the beach," she says, moving to hover not far from Terra and helping the other woman with evacuations for now.

Traci 13 has posed:
The water finishes erupting; and, the huge creature begins to at last show itself, and it's still far out to sea. But it's moving swiftly, the massive crown of its head lifting further above the water to show it's huge yellowy reptilian like eyes, its head expansive, it makes the ships around it seem less like bathtoys and more like large insects. A jawline and mouth filled with craggly teeth that is large enough to swallow a whale whole. A huge wave crashes out to shore, a good twenty feet from it's emerging body. And emerge it does, moving with a deceptively slow speed; slow for it's massive form, but it's strides? Dear God. It's strides would cover a city block. Maybe more. Massive shoulders, then chest, and arms, each tipped with fingers of a massive claw. Finally, about two hundred feet out from shore the creature - some kind of Elder Thing, maybe Alien, or twisted experiment. Its massive head raises in the air, and it -bellows- into the air. The howl, the rage, the cry of the creature echoes into the sky. It will rattle windows to the closest buildings, and through most of Metropolis sound off as loud as a tornado warning, throwing a mixture of spittle and water like rain, into the air.

Moments after that scream, there is a bright flash of electric purple-and-bluish light upon the shoreline. A young girl with black hair, dressed in leggings beneath her micro skirt, and a tanktop, and an iguana on her shoulder. "Wow. Wow. Okay. Wow. Traci. Deep breaths. Remember what you've learned." Traci 13 is on the scene, to protect 'her' city. "Remember what you've learned and don't screw it up." A pause, "YES, Leroy. I KNOW. I KNOW." Another pause, "Atlee! Supergirl?!" Those two the most visible and closest to her, as they're each successfull in getting the people off the beach who might otherwise be hurt by the incoming fight.
The marshmellowed-ship is, thankfully, made safe through Star Sapphire's efforts. Not that the gigantic creature seems to have noticed. But the way it tipped it's head up, the ship certainly would've killed almost everyone on board with the impact of it falling off the behemoth.

Terra (1034) has posed:
The petite if muscualr Atlee is already watching the water, even as people start to flee...sadly without the calm she was hoping for, as there are more than a few screams of panic as the huge head crests out of the water, the surge of water roaring upwards. She only has moments to act...but she tries, holding out her hands as the ground trembles from something other than the tread of the massive kaiju beast, before there's a series of rippling explosions along the edge of the beach, the dark-haired girl letting out a grunt of effort as rock surges out of the ground in wall to form a fairly high wall. It's not very solid...but it doesn't need to be to act as a breakwater for the massive ocean surge coming at the shoreline.

There's a tremendous *CRASH* as the giant wave hits the makeshift wall, a huge gush of spray shooting into the air...but blunting the worst of it as the water washes out to perhaps thigh level for most of the slowest people fleeing, rather than knocking them over or washing them back out to sea. The wall doesn't fare well, but it wasn't intended to last longer than the one hit anyway.

As Traci appears in a bright flash, the Stratan girl glances over to her. "Traci! What's happening? That doesn't NOT look very friendly at ALL!" she says. A bit unnecessarily. She peers up at Supergirl and the glowing light as the ship is pulled to safety. "Um...ah...I can try to ...make it spikey here so maybe...." She racks her brain a bit. It's REALLY BIG.

Aquawoman has posed:
Mera is actually glad that Star Sapphire caught the ship, because Mera wouldn't have gotten to it in time. She DOES, however, use her Hydrokineses to get the ship farther away from the monster.........

That part was easy. The rest of her job meant figuring out what the heck this thing WAS. And the sonic scream could be heard underneath of the water.

Mera swam over to the shore and attempted to use her Hydrokinese again....this time to pick up the Orca and get him to safety.....back in the water. "If anyone knows what this thing would be...it'd be Arthur. It's primarily his territory."

Stargirl has posed:
"Oh, God!" Courtney curses, but she moves towards the immense creature as it approaches the shore. "Go back!" she shouts, blazing her forcefield aura bright, trying to attract the creature's attention. "Go back!" of course it doesn't speak English, but she has to try.
Stargirl motions back to the deeper ocean, flashing brightly in the sky. There were others taking care of the evacuation on the beach... if she had to sacrifice herself, so be it. But that seemed unlikely anyway. "Away!"

Aquaman has posed:
The wake that the speeding Atlantean is kicking up begins to subside and dissipate as he dives deep, though the large waves made previously do continue in towards the coast, losing a bit of their energy.

Moments later the form of Aquaman emerges once again, rocketing out of the water, launching himself like he were some sort of graceful dolphin at play, if Dolphin's wear battle armor and carried tridents. The trajectory brings Aquaman high out of the water, Trident of Neptune held at the ready, as the arc of his leap peaks, and he begins descending towards the back of the massive beast, aiming to drive the magical weapon square into the back of the giant beast with all of his Atlantean might, which is rather considerable.

"You do not belong on dry land, beast of the deeps!" Arthur Curry shouts out at the massive creature, "Return to the depths, and to your slumber, or I shall have to end you! This is your only warning!" It is questionable if the creature can understand him, however.

Star Sapphire has posed:
Think, Star. Remember your science. You can't set the boat down on land or it'll crush itself, but water displaces, so you can't set it down near this creature or the waves will capsize it. Get it away from the big guy, but carefully. Slowly.
A Green Lantern makes a fist when using his ring; a violent, dominating gesture of will. Star Sapphire's hands are cupped together instead, like some saint holding a pigeon in her hands. The gesture reminds her to focus her interest and intensity on the ship, on the marshmallow, on needing everyone aboard to be safe. It hurts her heart, but that's alright. The pain is how you know it's working.
It takes two agonizingly interminable minutes to get the little ship (or is it a boat? looks more like a boat) a quarter of a mile out, north and parallel to the coast; far enough to be safe, Star Sapphire reckons. She lets the marshmallow construct diffuse slowly as she lowers the boat down: its entry into the water is sloppy, but no one goes overboard. Good deal. Star Sapphire waves goodbye at the sailors and is stricken by a sense of melancholy she'll never know them; a melancholy she forces down as she flies back to where the big guy (she can't quite make herself call it a monster) had been cresting. She is wryly certain she'll have no trouble finding it.

Supergirl has posed:
Supergirl flies up higher, putting herself between the monster and the shoreline. Because monster it is. She's seen a lot of movies on Netflix and the ones that involve things like this always end up with people screaming and running in circles before half the city ends up toppled to the ground in piles of rubble. That is not a movie she wants to be a part of so she plants herself, so to speak, in the air between it and the city.
As Arthur speaks, her brow furrows a little. Apparently, this isn't going to end with the thing just turning around and going back to beddie-bye from the way that Aquaman sounds. It's going to fall on them to keep it from going forward.

Traci 13 has posed:
"Atlee, can you make me a small circle. Like a ward?" Traci 13 gestures, around herself. "I -- don't know what's happening," she admits, "Or, what that thing is. And I'm -totally- going to be winging this. But I'll need all the power I can collect. And that one's a bit big for Leroy to tackle. I need a ward." She starts to 'draw' in the sand a few magical sigils, in clockwork fashion, "Just around this. Gems or - well, any -special- kind of rocks? Really helpful, too."

The ships are moved away to safety with Mera's ministrations and manipulation of ocean waters and Star Sapphire's forward scientific-thinking, and thankfully most of the fish are now swimming behind, and away from the monstrosity that has came from the deepest depths.
At it's full height, the creature is well over 300 feet high. A flash catches the creatures eye, that aura of Courtney's catching it's eye, and a massive hand moves to swat at her as a human might swat an annoying fly. Forcefield or not, Courtney is going sailing across the sky, and straight into one of the shorelined buildings.
However, as Arthur plunges the trident into it's back, the creature lets out another terrible bellow, and it twists, forward motion stopped. Across it's scaled back, there's a strange shudder. A rolling mass of shifting, and -- something white emerges from its back. Then another. And another. And, another several hundred more. Each as tall as a man, in height. Each, a miniature of this creature. One by one, they begin falling into the sea, rolling off the gargantuan creatures back. Several of them move towards Arthur, seeking to attack with claws and jaws strong enough to tear flesh and bones apart.

Terra (1034) has posed:
"A circle?" Terra says, then the ground under her erupts slowly as a piece of stone pushes up through the sand, lifting her up into the air as she floats, glancing quickly at the other heroes facing off against the massive beast. "...oh nutbunnies..." she says, fervently, seeing the smaller creatures, before quickly turning her attention back to Traci, before she turns her palms up, focusing. "Got it!"

There's another rumble through the beach, shaking it slightly, before a perfect circle of sedimentary rock rises up surrounding Traci, as the sand on it flows to the sides to keep it clear. "Like that?" she says, glancing over again towards the people still fleeing the area. Oh, this is sooooo not good.

She holds out another hand, focusing again as there's a sudden explosion of sand in a wider circle out perhaps thirty feet closer to the beach, as sharp spikes of rock start bursting up of the sand, angling towards the oncoming monsters in an attempt to discourage them from getting closer to the shore, the final defense extending all along the immediate beach area where the sand meets the asphalt of the parking lots and roads beyond.

Aquawoman has posed:
At the creature's bellow, Mera looks towards the monster, as she crests out of the water...to find....things, mini-monsters going after Arthur. She barely hesitates as she goes BACK under the water and attacks these mini-monsters herself.....while using her Hydrokineses to try and funnel them together...to make them easier to attack.....

Stargirl has posed:
"Aaaaahhhhh!" Stargirl cries as she's knocked back violently hundreds of feet to crash into a building. She and the forcefield hold up, though part of the building is less lucky, and the girl ends up a couple of floors down from where she impacted the outer wall.

Courtney crawls out of the wreckage, tossing a huge chunk of masonry off of her. "Whuff." the windows are gone here anyway, so she doesn't have to smash her way out. She ignites her field again and zooms back to the creature, staff in hand.

"My turn!" Stargirl shouts, her staff emitting a powerful energy blast, she means to hurt the thing now. It's not the best idea, enraging a giant monster, but it hurt her first!

Aquaman has posed:
Remaining upon the back of the giant beast, while it's spawn attack is not a sustainable option for the King of Atlantis, but there are many more down in the waters beneath him, "Try and drive it out of the bay, further from the city!" Arthur shouts out towards the gathered heroes, voice loud and practically booming, though still just the voice of a man used to issuing commands.

He kicks out with bone crunching force at one of the white mini-monsters, before he turns to launch himself away from the large creature, heading out towards the deeper water, in hopes the monstrosity will continue to follow after him.

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire is late. She hisses inwardly through her teeth, her dismay threatening to become horror as she spots Stargirl attacking the big guy. Time is too short for anything else: she conjures a shield in the shape of a giant hand mirror, as ornately shaped as you'd expect to find on a Victorian queen's nightstand, hoping to deflect the beam upward into the sky, where it can't hurt anyone yet. That done, she lets the construct dissipate and pays Stargirl no more mind; she doesn't have the time to. She has to act now, before it gets worse.
Star Sapphire hovers about forty feet in front of the big guy's face, hoping that's far enough back from its enormous field of vision it will be able to focus on her. She's floating very still and her arms are spread out at the sides, like someone offering a hug.
"Are you alright? Can you understand me? Can I help your wounds?"
If the big guy has a language, then the ring will find the right psychic frequency to make her questions understood. If it doesn't, or if it doesn't feel chatty after being speared in the back, well, that's an entirely different problem. Star Sapphire is already preparing to let her flight laspe and drop fast if she sees something swing at her. There's a rumor her ring's aura will protect her from mortal harm, but she'd really rather not find out.

Supergirl has posed:
    Instructions!
She grabs onto those words from Aquaman. Something Supergirl can do is help try to push it back.
With a sudden movement, she flies across the sky and skims low near the water. Her speed and strength come into play as she tries to knock out a few of the fledlings monsters on her way to the big one. There are an awful lot of the little ones.
Seeing what Star Sapphire is doing, she hesitates on her physical attack for the Momma Monster and decides to focus on the little ones until she sees if the thing even understands. If it doesn't, then she will be doing her best to drag it back out where it came from. Literally. At least give the other woman a chance, she figures.
She spins and comes around for another pass, a punch aimed for the face of white monster then spinning around to take on another.

Traci 13 has posed:
As if there weren't enough going on, a helicopter can be seen on the horizon, heading directly to the event, and those with sharp eyes would be able to see the Channel 2 News banner on the helicopter. Everyone loves a good news story, right? The chopper is closing in quickly, to be sure to have the best footage, live, for Metropolis - and the rest of the world.

"Good." Traci's voice comes quick, and she finishes her hasty drawing in the sand about herself before sitting into the circle, legs folded. She breathes a few times, telling Atlee, "Best ward I ever had that I had to make up on the fly." Then, she calls, "Chains of Hecate, bound by Light, and Silver, and Clarion Sound --- Infuego!" She holds her hands forth and gestures - three huge pillars of flame appear in a triangular pattern around the beast trying to box it in, but none are tall as the creature itself.

Beneath the water, the creatures begin to spread out, en masse, though Mera's efforts do manage to effectively 'herd' and 'force' some of the remarkably agile swimmers together in 'pod' or two. Yet, already they are making their way towards the beached areas. Luckily, Atlee's actions will give them an obstacle to overcome so they simply don't swarm through.
The creature does go for Arthur, but not in the way he might've thought, a massive but extremely fast tail even in the water snaps forth, seeking to slam into the King of Atlantis, at least until Stargirls energy pelts it. The creature opens its mouth again, and it's tongue lashes out like that of a massive frog, a stinger at the end of it, towards Stargirl -- luckily Star Sapphire's shield will protect her, but the tongue hits as hard as any Kryptonian could punch the same shield. It does not yet move forward, though, the pillars of flame something it doesn't particularly care for, and is 'new' to the mind of the creature. At least for now it's working.
Yet another maddened howl, ear-splitting, is emitted as Supergirl crushes several of it's young in an effort to protect the city. Many others of the hundreds in number already nearing the shore.

Terra (1034) has posed:
Atlee shoots a brief smiles at Traci at the compliment on the circle, as she rises up a bit higher on her platform. "Okay! I'm going to try and keep them back!" she says, spotting a few of the young monsters who are attempting to get past the spikey barrier. The young woman is used to fighting to a variety of cryptid creatures...usually from below ground though, not below the ocean. She's not quite sure how durable these creature are..but she gets a determined expression as she focuses her geokinesis.

There's a swirl along the sand of the beach, before it suddenly surges upwards in amorphous pillars of swirling, abrasive sand, before they start to slam into the oncoming creatures, trying to smack them around the head and shoulders. It's hard enough to stagger them, but it's more the abrasive nature that she's trying to use...to blind them, to get them to flinch, to make them turn back towards the ocean to get away. She can only maintain a few at once however, since she has to keep them constantly moving, rather than just creating a stone structure.

If that doesn't work...she starts heaving rocks at their heads. "Bad whatever the heck you ares!"

Aquawoman has posed:
Mera watches as Arthur and Supergirl handle the smaller ones. That left the big one. "Time to give a little trick I have a try on this monster."

Suddenly......a WATER DRAGON erupts out of the water. A long blue serpentine eastern dragon to charge, bite and generally attack the monster.

Why is it called a water dragon?

It's made completely out of water.

Aquaman has posed:
While the other heroes seem to be focusing on assaults up high, and his position now back under the water not providing him any idea that the Star Sapphire might be attempting Diplomacy, Arthur Curry moves in for another attack at the sea creature.

Aquaman begins to accelerate beneath the waves in towards the 'leg' of the beast, assuming it has one, but anyplace low on it will do, accelerating to ramming speed, to plow himself into the creature in an attack on it's balance, if nothing else, doing some fancy manuevers to try and avoid the flailing tail.

Supergirl has posed:
Apparently hitting the babies is not a good idea going by that noise.
Supergirl sees that diplomacy isn't working. So it's time to get into this the way she knows how. Her lack in fighting skills is made up for with her physical gifts. Perhaps if they can get ride of Momma, the babies will follow her back where they came from. Although that whole part of the back thing? Gross on so many levels.
Supergirl finishes up with teh two white beasties then flies upwards. She puts both of her hands up above her head and puts on the speed. With her strength and her momentum, she goes for a knock right in the chin of the beast in the hopes of pushing it backwards a bit.

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire winces as she watches Stargirl's energy blast break through the shield and strike the creature despite her best efforts, just ahead of it being surrounded by pillars of flame. It's down to violence now--'Isn't it always?' a stray voice in her head asks in cheerful tones that don't quite hide the shrillness of impending panic--and that...
...That it not a Star Sapphire's place.
Star Sapphire flies up and back, away from the big guy's head and, hopefully, from its grasp. She needs perspective, she needs a vantage point to see where she's needed.
The little guys, then. Star soars in an arc well over the big guy's head toward its back, and she stretches out her hand, fingers splayed, toward the battle below. Violet light flashes and creates dozens of glowing octopi, nothing realistic-looking at all but totally chibi little fellows that reach out for the smaller creatures to embrace them with eyes shut and little hearts popping from their foreheads.
Look, Star Sapphire doesn't make fun of YOU for what mental images run through your head in a fight with Godzilla. Don't judge!

Traci 13 has posed:
The Channel 2 News Copter continues to get closer, and clower, the loud noise of the blade heavy in the air as the cameraman leans out, and circle 'round the great beast and the heroes assailing it. Suddenly, that Copter seems to get the brunt of the attention of the creature, despite whatever other attacks are going on, and it's massive claws swing upwards to grab the helicopter, closing around it with ease. The whirling blades are silenced, breaking on the intensely hard skin of the monster who now sways, just a little, to the left as Arthur's crunch into it's leg makes it wobble, briefly. But it doesn't have time to look down, as there is a water dragon coming towards it; and as the dragon impacts against the beast it also takes out one of the pillars of fire with the massive force and size of the water dragon - but that's enough to disrupt the harmony of Traci's spell, and the bindings holding the creature, as it stumbles back one full step at the impact, then it whirls 'round, tail whipping out of the water to crash into the water dragon and break it apart. More of the little infant creatures roll off it's back, spreading out, even as Supergirl nails it in the jaw, and it does take another step back at her punch before turning and slapping Supergirl in much the same way it did to Stargirl, earlier, the creature annoyed.
The chibi-octopi are accepted. Just not in the way that Star Sapphire might've thought. It does give many of the babies pause from their route to land -- to feed. Those free of the chibi's move to 'help' their brothers and sisters out by opening their mouths and trying to eat the heart-popping watery creatures.

On the shore, the creatures simply get more and more, and more, and more. Sure, Atlee's defenses are holding them back, but the girl can only do so much. "Leroy, you're up!"
There's a crackle of energy as Traci tosses her iguana towards the charging creatures, and suddenly there's a twenty-foot tall dragon crushing, snapping jaws, taking rakes of claws, and returning them twofold.
"Alright, Atlee, Leroy, keep them off me. I'm not quite out of steam yet," Traci insists, not bothering to dwell on her spell being diffused. As one gets past Leroy, Traci blasts it with a magical bolt from her hand, before moving to sit in the middle of her ward. She folds her legs. And, slowly, certainly, she begins to slowly float into the air, hovering just a foot or so above the ground as she meditates. Focuses.
But across the entire shore? It's going to be pretty much impossible to stop all of them. Some of them are bound to get into Metropolis ...

Terra (1034) has posed:
The floating girl nods, her violet eyes watching the oncoming horde...but there's no give in her, even as the odds start to mount. "I won't let you down!" she calls back, letting the sand constructs fall again, as they're at best only irritating the creatures, but obviously not enough to push them back. She takes a deep breath, a few beads of sweat on her temple now as she starts focusing on the nearest creatures as they tromp forward, timing it as she holds out her hands.

As the first couple reach the spikey barrier and try to get around it...there's another explosion of sand. This time, however, it's right under the creatures, as huge pillars of stone on which they're standing shoot up and outwards at an angle, sending the the human sized figures flying into the air to tumble faaaaaar out to sea to land with tremendous splashes as they skip along the water a bit.

Then she changes tactics again. This time, there's a rumble from the ground as the areas under large clumps of the creatures abrumptly drops down forty, fifty feet, create huge squared off pits to trap them inside. She can do this faster....it's less concentration to create the pit without having to maintain it afterwards.

Stargirl has posed:
Not seeming to be especially effective against the larger creature, Stargirl turns towards the shore, flying back towards the city to warn of the impending invasion.

Aquawoman has posed:
as the water dragon was a significant distraction, Right after it breaks apart, Mera re-creates it to provide another distraction.....but Mera's full concentrationis on the water dragon, so she can't exactly help with the little creatures on shore....

Aquaman has posed:
Aquaman continues to move about beneath the waves, launching a couple attacks, avoiding flailing tails and such, and generally harrying the beast below the waterline for a few moments before he pulls back just a bit and surfaces to take in the entirety of the situation before him.

His attention shifts to the Pink woman in the sky, "Pink.. Pink?" Then the kawaii hugging constructs appear, "They must be a good one." He mouths to himself, "Pink Lantern!" He shouts, "Help protect the bystanders, and the ones on the beach!" He shouts out before diving back beneath the water to gain enough momentum for another leap to bring him up atop the giant creature.

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire watches her little octopus constructs get devoured, and is satisfied. Better some holographic cartoons get the chomp than the people of Metropolis. Watching their plasma-sculpted bodies dissipate into the light they came from gives her an idea, though. She swoops down to the ocean to yell, "Aquaman--!" Too late, he's already gone. She tries again. "Aquawoman! You have the best chance of finding where that big guy came from, right? Find where it came from so we can send it back! I'll take over your part of the battle!"
Star Sapphire doesn't wait for conversation. Her idea will land or it won't. She's already shooting a hundred feet up in the air to avoid any waves so she doesn't get distracted while doing her part of the job, the part that maybe she's the best-equipped hero for: she summons an immense turtle behind the big guy, one with a strangely blank expression on its face (actually based on a tortoise who's allergic to Atreyu). The turtle grows between the big guy's arms as if to wrestle it, its fin-like appendages braced against the creature's chest to push it back from Metropolis's shore while the size of its shell tries to push the creatures arms apart so it will release the helicopter in its hands.

Supergirl has posed:
The good news is it worked. The creature fell back a step at least which means it can be forced away from the shore.
The bad news is it worked. The creature is still standing, still fighting and even more mad than it was a moment ago. The blow hits and Supergirl goes flying through the sky toward the buildings a distance away.
She manages to use her flight against the throw, coming to a stop about five feet before she hits a window and goes through it. She glances inside and sees a family staring out at the goings on. With a brief wave as though this happened every day, she rushes back into battle.
While Star Sapphire's turtle is pushing and Aquaman is attacking, she goes for the tail. Her intention is to get a good hold on it and use her strength to try and start dragging the thing the out to sea. Preferably without getting smacked into the skyline again.

Traci 13 has posed:
Atlee and Leroy go to work keeping the area clear around Traci, who is working up a quiet spell, or at least, the power to cast -something-. What? Is anyone's guess. But between Atlee's prompt catapulting of creatures, and entombing them in great pits, a large amount of them are being buffeted, corralled or stompted on and skewered. A tremendous amount of magical power is slowly building up within, and around Traci, however, if any are sensitive to it.

The creature seems more and more annoyed with Aquaman, it's tail trashing now with such resounding force to hit the Atlanteean that it's creating huge thirty-fourty foot waves to crash into the shoreline -- luckily Atlee's rocks will take a lot of that damage. And then there is the water dragon again, and with nothing to actually grab -onto-, the creature is only more infuriated as the water dragon crashes into it and it slams a fist through the center of the dragon's hydrokenetic body.
And then there is Moira The Turtle. Or, as close a facsimilie there could ever be if Moira was Violet. And it becomes a literal roadblock to the massive monster, who is being assaulted from all sides. Literally, as Supergirl grabs it's tail now. She is in for a 'fight' though, as the tail swishes to and fro, and for all appearances might be the equivilient to Kara as if she were trying to ride a very ferocious Kryptonian Wild Stallion who had spent a few years here on Earth soaking up the yellow rays.

Yet, with all the distractions, the helicopter is dropped, and several voices scream as they begin to freefall into the ocean, the news crew still well alive and not crushed to death.

Terra (1034) has posed:
Terra doesn't know what Traci's doing, but she trusts that it's important, as she works with Leeroy to continue defending the barricades surrounding the young sorceress. But there are so many...some try to wiggle past the spikey wall, before the geokinetic turns her attention on them, and the rock suddenly reshapes to close around them, pinning them in place like stone stocks. She's definitely panting now, as she raises both hands, then sweeps them from right to left, as the sand on the beach surges up into a long, curling snake of swirling sand as it sweeps down, adroitly avoiding Leeroy where he rampages through the creatures, then tries to sweep as many as she can catch back into the water. This leaves the beach...well, bare of sand pretty much. The local tourist board will be annoyed if she doesn't put that back later.

Aquawoman has posed:
Mera hears Star Sapphire, but isn't willing to leave yet. So she swims over to Arthur....if possible......and hopefully stop the waves from hitting shore while she waits for Aquaman to ask him about where it came from.

Aquaman has posed:
Arthur is on his way up and out of the water, grabbing onto the shoulder of the large behemoth monster with one hand, so it's easy for Mera to relay the shouted question from Star Sapphire to him, if he hadn't heard it with his enhanced senses already. "The beast came from somewhere out in the vicinity of the Deep Challenger trench, Pink Lantern!" He will shout out towards the women.

The answer shouted out to the two, He attempts to leap a little further up, aiming to land atop the creature's head, trident held at the ready in one hand, though he doesn't use it, yet.

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire chose the shape of a tortoise for a reason: the slope of its shell juts out beneath them like a slide for the news crew to hit without breaking their bones, and the roughness of its carapace slows their rolling descent while offering lots of handholds for them to cling to once their descent has slowed. They'll be banged up but basically okay as Morla wedges its flippers against the beast's arms just above the wrists and puuuuuushes with all the force it can muster--which is getting a lot harder for Star Sapphire to maintain; her ring is really burning through its energy to keep up with this creature's strength--to keep its arms apart in a wide T. She's less worried with winning a wrestling contest right now than just making sure the beast can't hug the turtle and crush the news crew thereby. Supergirl can deal with getting him back there.
"Supergirl! You heard that, right?" she yells, then immediately feels like an idiot. Gosh, Star, I don't know, do you think the Kryptonian might have heard that?

Supergirl has posed:
Supergirl grabbed a tiger by the tail. Well, a monster. Either way, she's having one rough ride as she is pulled left and right by the beast, not getting any momentum going to be able to drag it the away. Which is when she starts to lose her temper. It's one of her problems, something she needs to work on. It's not pretty when it happens.
"Then I think it's time we send it back to the trench!"
She digs in her hands and decides that up is the way to go instead. While the beast will still be strong, the tail is designed more for side to side motion so up may be less resistant. And if nothing else, she's going to see if she can just lift the thing and carry out out to sea the hard way.
She grunts with the effort, a grimace on her face as she puts her full strength into the effort to fly up and taking the monster's tail with her--and hopefully the monster too.

Traci 13 has posed:
"Brilliance of Ra, consumed in Fire, and the Truth of Sight, I bind thee. Brilliance of Ra, Sword of Light, birthed in Flame, Seer. I bind thee. Brilliance of Ra, Sun of Heavens, First of All, Life. I bind thee. Brilliance of Ra, Giver and Taker, Renewer, Firstborn. I bind thee. I bind thee, and I cast thee -OUT-."
And with that last chant, Traci 13's eyes flash open, and there is, briefly, a third eye - not upon her forhead, but floating between her two hands. And, from that eye a flare. A flare not as if one were just staring into the sun, from Earth. But one as if one were standing in front of the sun, and staring it, at Earth. One that will blind, befuddle, and cause anyone to turn away.
Even the babies cannot withstand the light, it -hurts- them. Thankfully, Atlee and Leroy are both on the other side. However, the heroes fighting the creature - as well as the creature itself will not be able to look directly to shore, now.

The creatures head turns away, sharply, from the light, and it's dazed momentarily, stunned, by the sudden brilliance which gives Arthur the time he needs to launch himself on the creatures head, and the news team the time they need to get into the water, safely. Of course, as soon as they do? There's several swirling baby monsters heading towards them. Feeding time?
With the creature turning it's head about, it's easier for the turtle with Star Sapphire's efforts to yet push the monstrosity back even further, as Supergirl strains to lift the creature up. She has some success, being as strong as she is, lifting the creature somewhat off the ground it's on, but the creature struggles, twists, and it's a -lot- bigger than her. It's going to be a major uphill battle.

Terra (1034) has posed:
The sudden flare is a suprise to Atlee, the light burning across her back lightly for a moment as she's momentarily taken by suprise. But, seeing the creature reeling and many of the smaller creatures backing away from the bright light, she grins. "Great!" she calls back to Traci, as the rocky platform she's on floats over then merges with one of the spikes, like a little conductor's dais hanging out over the now rocky beach. Violet eyes scan quickly over the situation, lighting on the news crew as she clenches her hands, seeing the monsters starting to surround them, before the ground shudders, then a larger platform of rock pushes up underneath the crew, lifting them into the air and out of range of the monsters as Atlee starts to float them towards safety.

Of course, she's now focused on that, and unable to watch the smaller monsters for a moment until the group is safely over the barricade of spikes...

Aquawoman has posed:
"Right." Mera then turns and swims......after seeing what Supergirl is trying to do. So she swims....and adds her momentum to her considerable strength to add to Supergirl's momentum to try and throw the monster back at the trench.......

Aquaman has posed:
Clinging onto the head of the Monster, Arthur Curry does something that doesn't involve hitting it in the head, or stabbing it with his Trident. Instead, he attempts to engage the beast in a little battle of wills.

*VUU VUU VUU* Is the sound his telepathy would make, if it actually made sounds, he engages with the mind of the beast, attempting to give it the urge to rest, or relax, to stop resisting, even if just a little. *VUU VUU VUU*

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire's hands fly to her mouth when she sees the crew drop into the water, though she supposes she understands why they did it. The water probably felt safer than the back of a giant turtle wrestling with Godzilla. Thank god the girl in the two-tone onesie saved them! Seeing Supergirl's and Aquawoman's plans, not to mention feeling her ring losing some of its kick, Star decides the best option right now is to follow their lead: she lets the turtle-construct lapse and instead builds a new one, a harness of immense straps hooked in an H shape around the creature's back, connecting to a platform with a pair of giant, torpedo-shaped machines against its chest. A jetpack, but worn backward; one that's firing now, doing its best to generate enough thrust to assist the two goddesses with their attempts to push/pull it back from the city.

Supergirl has posed:
It's at least working a little bit it's going to take more strength. Supergirl focuses entirely, her world centered around trying to lift the immense, writhing mass that wants to do anything but go flying. She'd try to explain that flying is enjoyable but she doesn't it would understand. Or care. Unless it involves destruction and feeding people to it's babies. Ewww.
With a yell from the effort, she continues trying to drag the creature up, to get it's feet out from under it. Perhaps with the push from below and the harness jetpack, it might just be enough. And if Arthur can get it to just chill for five minutes, they'll get it out of there.
Course then there's the babies. Maybe they'll follow. She has to have hope.

Traci 13 has posed:
The news crews shield their eyes, and are almost uncertain what's going on, because they're so temporarily blinded -- but at least they're not dinner. And soon enough, they're safe, and on land again thanks to Terra. Few of the babies are able to make it over that rocky expanse Terra has crafted, now, between her barrier and Traci 13's light - which is still eminating from her hand. Terra might see, though, that Traci's nose is starting to bleed. Both spells she cast required a massive amount of power. And her body is still not used to channeling so much at once.

As Mera's strength adds to Supergirls own, the task becomes all that easier with their mission clear - to literally toss the creature towards the ocean. At least, as far as they could. And with Arthur's telepathy at least, in some fashion, getting through the -very- thick skull of the old and very forgotten (until now) leviathan, it does relax, but only for a few moments. Enough to not struggle against Star Sapphire's new construct of a very imaginative and helpful rocket-powered 'Lantern Pack' across it's body or tear it off immediately. And, enough to allow the entirety of the effort of Mera, Supergirl, and Star Sapphire to literally heft the creature and throw it several miles out to sea -- the ocean crashing, waves blasting as it lands.
There is a long, pregnant pause, and keen eyes can see the creature surface. It bellows again, but this time softer, lower. And then it submerges. A few of the babies do, in fact, begin heading back to mom, mostly those in the water. Those that have already landed, and that are either trapped in Terra's pits - or, made it into the city proper? They may not have heard with all the city sounds. But, there are other heroes in Metropolis, too. And sirens. And authorties.

Traci lets the lightshow go, her hands dropping, her body dropping onto the ground, as she breathes, and blinks, "Whoa." She swallows, hard, and wipes her nose, "That. Wow." She might not yet be talking about the monster, or realize exactly the progress made.

Terra (1034) has posed:
Atlee finds an easy way to deal with the problem of the ones in the pits...as she repeats her pillar/catapult trick, one after the other, sending large groups of the babies spinning past the other heroes to splash down in the distance near the retreating beast. By the time she's done, she's sweating noticeably, before the flat pedestal she's on breaks free then floats down to land near Traci. Before she falls on her back, chest heaving, in the remaining sand. "Good job! Gonna...hah...just...hah...rest here...hah...little bit...hah..." she pants, letting her head slump back as she closes her eyes. "...you..hah..okay? Others...hah..okay?"

Aquawoman has posed:
Mera takes a breath.....yes...of water, and rises to the surface. "At least it'll stay out to sea for now." She then sighs and rises a bit further up. "I am not Aquawoman...." She says to Star Sapphire. "I am Mera. There's only one Aquaman...and he's over there." She says pointing with the Bident she has to Arthur. "We'll need to find out why it came here....of all places."

Aquaman has posed:
Telepathic contact with ancient leviathans, even those that were created to serve Atlantis, is taxing on one's mind, and this was something different completely. His influence works on the creature, at least long enough for the others plan to work.

When the creature begins to succumb to the force of the three women, Arthur's grip on the beast falters, and the King of Atlantis begins to tumble down from the top of the beast, impacting the water with a big SPLOOSH.

Star Sapphire has posed:
<<Power reserves at ten percent,>> Queen Aga'po informs Carol Ferris. Carol makes note of this fact and then promptly ignores it. She's flying back to Metropolis, searching for any straggling critters--at least their coloration is distinctive--and gets to work on collecting them as best she can. "Come on, little buddies," she murmurs mostly to herself as she conjures big, pliant life rafts; the inflatable kind, but these carefully monitored to be gummy and flexible, almost like hammocks. Each one flies swiftly out over the ocean and then into it, depositing the little critters into the water to find its mama.
Once that's done, and only once it's done, Star Sapphire... well, first she lands. She's a little worried about how much power her ring has left. But second, she creates a long, narrow, elegant wooden bridge from the stone pillar the news crew is trapped on, one with high, delicate railings that would look perfectly in place spanning the trees of Lothlorien. "Sorry. I'd fly them, but I think they might prefer moving under their own power after the last few minutes," she apologizes to Mera, only realizing that she she changed the subject of the conversation once she's heard the words leave her mouth. Her eyes go wide, and she shakes her head to clear it. "Ugh, sorry, I'm rambling. My brain is fuzzy from all the energy I've been channeling today. Yes. You're Mera. I'm Star Sapphire."

Supergirl has posed:
Supergirl hovers in the air for long moments after the beasties have disappeared. She rolls her right shoulder, making sure it's still working properly after all that. Then she glances to all the others. She floats toward shore as a bright smile lights up her face entirely. She lets out a little squeal of excitement as she does a twirl in the air. "We did it!"
Then she realizes that Aquaman hit the water hard when they stole his perch. "Oh!" She swoops down into the water and comes up with her arms full of the King of the Oceans. She carries him to shore with the others, landing lightly. "Are you alright? I hope you're alright because we did something amazing so you have to be."

Traci 13 has posed:
"Yeah," says Traci, breathlessly. She moves over to Atlee, and flumps beside her, putting an arm around the other girl, and closing her own eyes, making it appear as if the two merely fell asleep on a barren and sand-emptied beach now rather than just expend all their energy in a ton of Geokenetics and magical output. "Everyone is safe. Everything is safe. We're safe. There's some in the city. But. I think we got all the ones we could. Soooooo many."
She looks up, when she hears another voice, that of Supergirls. She finger-waggles to Kara, "Hi, Supergirl. Oh, Aquaman is here too?" She looks too tired to get up and greet him properly, though. Instead, she gives them a 'thumbs up' both, and exhales. "You are both pretty awesome."

Terra (1034) has posed:
Atlee mmmms as Traci flops down against her, reaching up to pat her back gently, then giving her a hug. Mostly by feel. She doesn't actually open her eyes until she hears a voice she doesn't recognize as well, opening her eyes to blink up at Kara. "Oh, hi! Yeah..." she says, taking a deep breath. "Just...not used to a workout like that...I need to practice more." she says determinedly. She peers down at the girl curls up against her. "Are you really okay Traci?" she says, a bit worriedly, then looks up at Kara. "Um...do you have a hankie?" Because, bloody nose..just worse if it dries. Ew.

Supergirl has posed:
There is a moment where Supergirl is about to start chatting up a storm but she hears something that gets her attention. "Uh oh. A few got through," she says softly. Then she is flying into the air. She pauses about twenty feet up and waves to everyone on shore.
"Nice to have met you and hope we never ever meet again. I mean, I want to meet again. Just not like this. No giant Momma monsters and its babies, 'kay? " Then she is flying off into the city in pursuit of a few of the little monsters to send them back to the trench with their mother.

Star Sapphire has posed:
"I think you're supposed to just let it bleed until it's done, or else you'll get stuffed up worse than you're already going to from having scabs in your nose," Star Sapphire interjects, but hesitantly. She spreads her arms to the side as if to invite a hug, but she's just showing off how tight her costume is, a fact made apparent when she offers, "I'd get on the internet to double-check that, but this costume doesn't really have a place for a phone."

Aquaman has posed:
Aquaman is delivered safely ashore by Supergirl, he is visibly weary as well, and just lays there for a few moments with a slight groan escaping his mouth as he moves to sit up, just in time to catch the costume demonstration that Star Sapphire seems to be putting on. "Good work everyone." He says with a little grimmace.

Traci 13 has posed:
Traci wipes her nose a little, grimaces herself, "Too much magic, at once. I expended all my natural energy with the Chains of Hecate. I've never made them so big before. And -usually- it's more of a purging spell. I kind of, manipulated it. And then the Light of Ra? Well. I had to channel the power of Metropolis through myself. Took a lot out of me. But yeah, I'm okay."
Still, she's not sitting up. Exhausted, or comfortable, she is at least, paying attention. She tells Star Sapphire, "You definitely need pockets. I mean, just look at Batman. He has a whole utility belt. Maybe you should get one to match?"
She exhales again, as she considers Aquaman. "I don't suppose you know what that was? Or, how to make sure it never comes here again?"

Terra (1034) has posed:
Terra waves to Supergirl as she flies off. "Good luck!" she offers. Yes. She should get on that. When she catches her breath. She's one of the S people though, she might be able to handle it all by herself too, though?

The dark-haired girl hmms at Star's advice, peering down at Traci with a little worry, then nods and giggles at the older woman, "Yes! They did not think of pockets with mine either." she admits with a sigh. "And I only have so many places it's comfortable to put things."

    Pause.

"...my boots get really full otherwise."

She then smiles at Star. "Hi, also!" she says. "Um, I'm Terra...well, Atlee, but when I'm dressed like this, mostly Terra." Yes, she really sucks at the whole secret identity thing.

She peers over at Arthur. "Oh! I know you...I've seen you on the TV! Do you know Kaldur? I've met him too!" She beams a bit. "Thank you for helping so much! Oh, and the other girl too....I guess she's gone already?" she adds, vaguely disappointed that she couldn't say hi to her as well, apparently.

Star Sapphire has posed:
"I'm afraid I'm stuck in this costume a bit longer," Star replies, but pleasantly. "I'm in a partnership with the Daily Planet, and we're running a contest to offer girls a chance to redesign my uniform. Until the submissions are in, here I am. And hi, I'm Star Sapphire." Her ring flashes violet. "Ugh," she informs it with a sigh. "I'm going to have to dash. Good work, everyone. Thank you for saving so many lives." Star double-checks that the news crew made it to solid land, lets the bridge dissipate, and lifts into the air with a jaunty little salute that doesn't quite mask the tiredness in her eyes. That's heroics for you.

Aquaman has posed:
Arthur turns towards those still remaining on the water's edge there, taking hold of his Trident and using it to help push himself up from where he sat, reaching to brush sand off the backside of his costume as best he can with the other hand and he nods his head towards Terra, "I know Kaldur quite well." He says, "I'm Arthur." He offers a hand out first towards Terra, his gaze shifting to nod at Traci, "Someone was, as I understand it, prospecting in a protected area of my kingdom illegally, and woke something up. There are things slumbering in the sea best left undisturbed. If it is not woken up again, I imagine it will not come back.. but I will monitor it from here on. That is for certain."

Traci 13 has posed:
"Jerks." Traci means it. She slowly pushes herself off Terra, somewhat reluctantly, but she dusts herself off a little bit. "But, I'm pretty sure you'll handle it. Diplomatic Awesomeness, and all that," she tells Aquaman, conversationally. Then she turns to Atlee, "You," and then she looks at her giant lizard, "And you, both did -awesome-." She points her finger at Leroy, the 20 foot tall lizard who is, by the by, just chilling out. And, he transitions back into his normal size, and starts to waddle over towards Traci again.

Terra (1034) has posed:
The black and white costumed girl waves as Star zips up and off. "She's nice..." she murmurs absently, before turning her attention back to Arthur, then, as Traci sits up, she's freed to do the same, taking the hand and shaking firmly. "Nice to meet you Athur!"

She frowns a bit at the news of where the creature, letting out a slightly frustrated huff. "Oh...people really need to be more careful about this sort of thing...they keep poking holes everywhere without looking to see if someone is living there first." she grumps, just a tad. Mind, usually the things she has to deal with aren't gigantic kaiju monsters...more annoying intelligent T-Rexs like Empathosaur. But he's a JERK. "Thank you for monitoring it then. I hope no one got hurt by this..." she says with a frown, glancing over the beach. "....mmm, this is going to take a while to fix again too..." she adds with a sigh, letting her head slump back. Sort of resigned...it's not like she's not going to fix it after all!

She blinks at Traci then gets a faint flush, rubbing her neck. "Thank you, but you did great too! That flare thing was brilliant!" She blinks, then giggles. "Literally!" Oh gawd the pun-ishment.
