Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Cyclops, Cannonball

Cyclops has posed:
One of the last weeks before school starts for the year, Cyclops had been working on adapting a new visor system to his suit. Currently dressed for training in the Danger Room, Scott was currently without his visor, substituting his glasses currently. The visor in his hands tweaks the insides with a small screwdriver.

He'd been working on new simulations for the trainees, always tweaking, tailoring the situation for all who would be involved, making things more challenging to keep everyone on their toes. While he tinkered with the visor, he almost seemed in a zen mode, he got this way when working with machinery, wether it were cars and motorcycles or combat gear.

Cannonball has posed:
The throat clearing is deeper than it was just a few years ago. The form that fills the door is significantly more muscular than it was too. More hair.
The smile is not as doofy-looking either. Sam, if one were to compare his build, is a lot like Scott was. Lean. Tall. Trim. His shoulder sets in the door. "Mister Summers? Can we talk?" Sam's tone is ginger, quiet, and vaguely troubled.
The younger mutant quietly adds, "Ah can come back. Ah know you sometimes get eye strain and headaches. Ah don't want to be a bother." His tone is ginger, and his body shifts in the door, his confidence fading with every word he says.

Cyclops has posed:
Ruby lenses look up from his work, visor components organized neatly on a mat in front of him, same with the tools. "Mister Guthrie, come in." Scott nodded to the table, open to whatever chair Cannonball wanted to use. "That's right, but right now is not one of those times." He placed his visor back down on the mat, the screwdriver too, a place for everything, and everything in its place. The headaches come from looking at the world as shades of red, but the X-Man had time for his students, or former students as it were.

Cannonball has posed:
"I need to stand." Sam moves over and Scott might see flickers of himself at that age as the young man, almost a man but not quite one. His hands slide to his side. "Ah need a favor, sir?" Again he starts off strong, but finishes weak. "Ah, uhm, think ah have messed up. Ah think ah have failed, and ah think ah have to fix it." His pose is respectful, but he is intent on Scott. He isn't quite as up tight as some other mutants, but he obviously here to turn himself in.

Cyclops has posed:
Scott gives a shrug at the refusal of the chair. "Suit yourself." He offers, turning his chair to look the young man face to face. "Are you okay?" Of course, he had an open door policy, though had a reputation for not being as approachable as the other teachers/X-Men.

"What exactly do you feel you've failed at?" Cyclops now knows that he wasn't in danger, but there was something on his mind.

Cannonball has posed:
"Well in addition to my personal failings. Like numerous curfew violations and the like, well ah love too much."
He has pretty good comedic timing. About the time Scott might think he is getting pranked, Sam continues. "Ah think ah holding my team back. Ah think that my mother hen act is topping them from becoming more responsible. I think Ah am too involved in their lives. I think ah am less the co-leader of the team, and more the big brother." He holds out his left hand. "Ah like being their big brother. Ah miss my family."
His speech pattern is a lot of I feel X statements. Obviously, the kid has been thinking about this.
"Ah am stunting their growth as people. Ah need to move on. Ah am done at semester, and ah have earned a scholarship. Ah am not a boy anymore, but ah admit ah am not fully grown. Truth of the matter is, that we face danger every day too, and ah am equipped to handle it. Ah think it is time I moved up being a teammate of yours, Mr. Summers."
Sam pulls in a slow breath. "Ah want to be an X-Man."

Cyclops has posed:
Cyclops adjusts his glasses, looking to the young mutant. "You feel too attached. It can happen, you and the rest basically grew up together." Scott takes a deep breath, processing the words, as much as Scott did see something familiar in Sam, there was something a bit different.

Scott stood up, crossing his arms. "Sam, I want you to be very sure you want to do this. It's not being a New Mutant any more." Cyclops leaned in a bit, looking right in Sam's eyes. "Are -you- ready to be an X-Man?" His tone was gravely serious. Even though the young team had gone through a taste of very advanced training, they hadn't been truly in that situation yet. Cyclops had to be sure that Sam was committed.

Cannonball has posed:
"Ah broke the first rule, Scott." It's a first name. "Ah lost Doug. He was my brother, and he died. Ah know there is a cost to this. How many Guthries are gonna come through this school? How many of my blood are going to train here? How about my kids someday? X-Man isn't about me. It isn't about you. It isn't about the team. it's about the world, Scott." First name again. "Ah am going to study politics. Ah have a family. Ah..." Sam slows his speech down. "Ah believe that a life has meaning in service." A little Southern Baptist in that. " He relaxes a little. "Ah have seen the price. Doug threw himself in front of bullets to save Rahne. We were children. I fought in tunnels with dwarves in Asgard. Ah have fought the brood." Sam pulls in a breath. "Ah still want to do it."

Cyclops has posed:
Scott backs off a bit, raising his eyebrow as Sam uses his first name.

The stalwart mutant remains stoic, receiving everything Cannonball throws his way. He kept an even tone, though as Sam continues on, Scott starts to smile.

"Okay." He offers, succinct and to the point. "If this is what you want, I will personally sponsor it."

Cannonball has posed:
His smile betrays his youth. "Thank you!" Sam all but throws himself at Scott. "Ah will not let you down." Guthrie is the hugging sort. "Ah want to stay as Doug's roommate though? Ah think he needs a friend still. Ah can be his friend, right?" He's strong, and affectionate. At least it is sincere.

Cyclops has posed:
It was now that Scott started to show more emotion, just a little, he actually gives a grin. "You've earned it, and I know you'll continue to do so."

Cyclops nods his head. "You can still be friends with Doug, and if you want to stay in the dorm that's fine too." Scott hadn't expected the hug, and after a moment of unsureness, he gives Sam a pat on the back.

Cannonball has posed:
"Awright. Um.. ah need to give Dani the chore wheel. and the danger room rotation schedule, and the recipe book." Sam pauses. "Do ah still do chores?" he asks. He doesn't see other X-Men doing chores. His eyes narrow critically. "Rogue and Kitty don't have chores?" Because they are the young X-Men.

Cyclops has posed:
Scott gave a bit of a chuckle. "We all do chores. Just different ones." He looks down at his visor. "We keep the basement clean, fix things that need fixing, et cetera." Of course that the students didn't realize that the adults do a lot for the mansion and it's inhabitants.

Cannonball has posed:
So relieved! "Oh good. Ah like chores." Sam admits it. "Ah will learn what you need me to learn there." He says simply. "Ah expect it'll start with the cleaning?" He sounds excited about the chores. "So there is an X-man chore wheel?" Yeah. That is Sam.
"Ah like to know what needs doing and who needs help. Ah cannot thank you enough. Thank you." He stands up and straightens himself up.

Cyclops has posed:
"No...I tried once. Gambit blew it up, that's why the lawn has the dead spot by the topiary." Scott answers, complete deadpan serious. "Cleaning first, we will see what you fit in with in terms of more advanced things." Cyclops himself likes to fix up the Blackbird, which he does more often than he would admit.

Cannonball has posed:
That is shocking. "I thought we did that. Someone might have had a bit too much to drink and someone might have been very sorry about it." Sam says very carefully. "I will not squeal, but we always thought that the rules were there for us to learn how to use our powers better." Sam clears his throat. "Too bad about the chore wheel though. Ah like those. Easy to organize."

Cyclops has posed:
Scott shook his head. "No, now we all have a little rotation, I'll show it to you soon. If there's no actual wheel, it doesn't get defaced...or destroyed." Cyclops worked with a couple hot heads, but no matter. "I should finish fixing this thing, and also fix up the new scenarios in Danger Room now that there's another member of the team." Cyclops offers, with just a tinge of pride in that statement.

Cannonball has posed:
"I gotta talk to Dani." Sam agrees quietly. "Ah.. ah won't let you down." Sam is radiating a youthful pride and enthusiasm. He gives another hard, fast hug. "Th-thank you!"
