Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Cyclops, Cypher

Cyclops has posed:
After the events of the wedding, Scott had made sure everyone returned safely. Sans Rogue of course, but that was another matter entirely.

Scott had been mostly sequestered in the basement, but he did make an attempt to come up and check up on things. This was such a time, the X-Man came up into the rec room, taking a place behind the bar and uncapping a sparkling water, no one was in here at the time, but it was a common gathering spot, he was sure someone would be by.

Cypher has posed:
Doug had declined a return home, saying that he needed to think -- that he would text Illyana when he was ready to come back. The next day, in the evening, a Lyft dropped him off at the house, and he came back. He took the time to change and re-dress his injury, before he entered the Rec-Room.

"Cyclops." He says, his posture relaxed, back straight, arms at his sides, "Could we talk, for a moment?"

Cyclops has posed:
Scott took a drink from the bottle. "Cypher..." He offered, raising an eyebrow in question. The man was serious nearly all the time, and this was no different. "By all means, you want a drink?" He asks, looking to the young man from behind those Ruby quartz lenses.

Cyclops would keep talking whilst he grabbed whatever Doug had asked for.

Cypher has posed:
Cypher strokes his chin, and then says, "Diet Soder Cola. With a lemon." Then he says, "I wanted to tell you... making Sam an X-Man. I think you made the right choice. And he's ready--been ready. I would bet my life on him, any day."

Then he says, "I had been talking with Phoenix about--becoming an X-Man myself. I'm not at the same level Sam is--but I'd still like to earn my shot."

"There are people in this world--men like Graydon Creed, William Stryker, and Cameron Hodge, who are as adept at using words to move the game state toward oppression and violence as they are using violence itself. I would be... irresponsible, if I did not commit to the fight. But at the same time--" He says, "I am missing years of my life. Years where my friends grew and changed, and I--" He says, "Didn't get a chance to grow with them."

"I am discovering that my powers have changed, expanded to the point where sometimes I emotionally shut down because the information I'm processing is just too... too much. I should have been paying closer attention. If I had been looking at Spiral I would have seen that she was going to stab Gambit, in time to deliver a warning. My powers could have prevented disaster, and I failed. I'm sorry."

Cyclops has posed:
The X-Man starts with the can, frosty and chilled. "I wouldn't have promoted him otherwise." He quips, dropping ice cubes in a glass. Cyclops pauses once he is told of Cypher's intentions on being an X-Man as well.

A loud crack as he breaks the seal on the can, the relief of that pressure starts the signature Soder Cola bubbles popping with their effervescence. "Creed and Stryker, you're right. They are extremely adept at skewing public opinion towards their agendas. The cause could use someone just as adept in countering their arguments." He cuts a lemon into wedges, pouring the soda into the glass and garnishing. "And you feel like you can do that as an X-Man?" He asks, sliding the glass across the bar to Cypher.

Cypher has posed:
"I am committed to the idea that there is a way for mutants and humans to co-exist without it turning into a war--or a genocide." Doug says. "And for that matter, a way for mutantkind to co-exist with itself. My power IS language, the ability to interpret information and then respond in kind." He takes the soda and squeezes the lemon wedge before dropping it in.

"My powers have evolved to include considerable utility in combat, but I am aware I am not a front-line fighter. Technology might increase my combat effectiveness--" He leans back, "But I am still discovering the ways my powers work. There isn't a form of decryption I've yet tested myself against that even slows me down."

"I want to be a journalist. I want to create the empathic connection that is necessary to counter the othering and whataboutism that men like Creed, Stryker and Hodge use against Mutants. And I want to stand with the only family I have left, if the war does come."

Cyclops has posed:
"That is a very noble goal, Doug." Scott offers, taking a sip of his drink. "So, you're going to become a journalist, and your abilities have changed too. You'll need more advanced training." Cyclops takes a moment to think on that one. "Admittedly someone with your abilities would be desirable. But like you said, you're not on Sam's level." Scott says that in a way that holds hope. "We can train you, and regardless you have a home here. If you truly want to be an X-Man, take that next level. We can make it happen."

Cypher has posed:
Doug takes a sip of that soder, and closes his eyes, mentally breaking down the ingredients in his head -- some secret recipe -- "When it comes to collecting information or breaking into enemy systems or analyzing their strategies, I'm exactly who you need." He closes his eyes. "I'm prepared to do whatever I have to do." Then he opens them again, and says, "Thank you. For the chance." He lights his gaze on Scott. "If you have any questions for me, I'm prepared to answer, sir."

Cyclops has posed:
Scott gives a nod, giving a close to his drink. "You're welcome, and like your colleague, I expect you will not let us down." The offer of answering any questions makes the field leader think a bit. "I expect I will have questions. But I think for now we all could use a respite." And funerals to prepare for...

Cypher has posed:
Doug lets out a sigh, and then he nods, once, slowly. "Whenever you're ready to ask them, I'm ready to answer." Then he looks down at himself, and says, "...But if I can speak on authority an issue sir, it's this one. Life will go on, for Rogue and for all of us. And... don't give up hope. I'm proof that the impossible happens.

"I also wanted to bring up -- I have experience with Mojo too, from before I died -- he's a trickster and a liar and a mind-bending sneak. Why would he bring us to Mojoworld, just to try to kill us? That's not his language." He swallows another sip of that cold soder. "Something's not *right*, Scott. It could be he had something more elaborate in mind, and botched it--but there's a sour phrase in this somewhere, a double-meaning..."

Cyclops has posed:
Cyclops looks a bit thoughtful. "Exactly. There was something going on the entire time there." He's not exactly sure what it is, but it would be a safe bet that Scott was investigating it downstairs in the X-wing. Though he admittedly was not sure on what exactly is the scheme. "Have you done any research on your end in all this?"

Cypher has posed:
"No." Cypher says, "But I have an idea for a mission. Mojo records *everything*. If we could get hold of his footage, I could analyze it... and then maybe tell you more." He laces his fingers together. "I'm willing to go as part of an expedition to Mojoworld, I've beaten his tech before." He meets Cyclops's gaze. "Even if it turns out Mojo's not really the culprit."

Cyclops has posed:
"It would be a dangerous mission, going to Mojoworld...but I don't see any other way we will get the answers we want." Cyclops sighs, really there was no telling what purpose Spiral and Mojo had bringing them there, this would certainly shed some light on the situation. "Type up a proposal for the team to go on this mission. Consider it your first part of advanced training." He said with a slight smile.

Cypher has posed:
"Done." Doug says. He smirks, and then says, "...Thank you, for the opportunity, Cyclops. I, ah--" He thinks, "I appreciate the opportunity you and Phoenix are giving me. I think she was interested in training me herself, if that's all right." He extends his hand. "It means a lot. I have to go forward--I can't have the life I had... before. But this is who I am, this is the language I speak best."

Cyclops has posed:
"That's fine, Phoenix training you further." Scott offers, not that he wouldn't mind the challenge himself, but his methods were not the easiest. The X-Man reaches out his hand, giving a strong shake in return. "But I would say you might want to look into tactics and strategy, you may find you have a knack for it."

Cypher has posed:
Doug smirks. "I'm going to work on exploring multiple ways to use my powers that would make them effective in combat and outside of it. I think..." He says, "I have a lot to offer. But I'm interested in training with you as well, and with all the X-Men. The more I communicate, the more I learn, and the more I learn the more effective I become. Sir." He says, "And I have experience working with Cannonball already--aside from his tendency to fuss, we synchronize fairly well--" His expression has brightened, considerably. "I'll get started right away."

Cyclops has posed:
Scott gives a hearty nod. "That's the spirit. I know you will succeed." He offers, smiling just a bit more. "By all means, we encourage everyone to learn as much as they can with us." Scott does add in: "Sam was very adamant on staying your roommate, he thinks very highly of you. And I know you do him as well. Nothing wrong with a good friend by your side."

Cypher has posed:
"He's a perpetual older brother, sir -- and if he doesn't have cats to chase, he's unhappy." Doug shrugs, lightly, and says, "It was obnoxious, sometimes. But now that I have a little more perspective, it's nice knowing someone is watching your six." He smirks. "He's a good friend. And he'll make a great X-Man. And a great leader of X-Men, someday." Then he says, "Ah. With all due respect sir," He rubs the back of his neck, "It's been a long couple of days. Would it be all right if I went and got some sleep? I'll log some Danger Room time later tonight."

Cyclops has posed:
Scott gives a nod to the young man. "Go ahead Doug, I think we've all earned a bit of rest." A reassuring statement for the young mutant. "I'm going to follow up on our data on Mojo."
