This Is Why I'm Here
Date of Scene: 22 August 2017
Location: Xavier's School
Synopsis: Yana pulls Dani into the kitchen after her first meeting with the New Mutants and X-Men and a talk ensues about many things.
Cast of Characters: Black Rose, Moonstar

Black Rose has posed:
After the enlightening meeting in which Yana's 'inexperience' was contested, Mojo and Starro debated, and the Justice League and Alpha Flight mentioned, Yana had one thing on her mind.
Munchies. And, she'd wanted to talk to Dani, anyways. So, she more or less dragged Dani to the kitchen with her, promising to make her something - a small compensation for taking her in the first place.
So, now Yana is slathering mayo on a couple buns, making what will appear to be some decadently stacked sandwhiches. "I really do want to thank you for taking me, Dani. Trust me. I'll do right by you, when they put me in that simulation. I didn't show half of what I can do in that simulation we did."

Moonstar has posed:
Dani nods, "I figured, and I know you're good, but... this is going to be /very/ dangerous Yana. I need to make sure you're ready. Ms. Grey is right there." She smiles, "But I'm confident in you. Even if she makes me feel less confident in myself."

Dani then sighs a bit, and looks at Yana, "Look, got a weird question for you, and tell me it's none of my business if you want, but... um, there's nothing going on with you and Lexi, right?"

Black Rose has posed:
"Oh? That? Yes. I took her to the training room before we left for Paris," Yana says, conversationally. "Got one of the staff's permission, and they set it up for me, showed me some of the basic controls. I just worked with her on a few ideas, as well as building her confidence. Showed her how to make a body shield with her tendrils to protect herself if she gets in trouble, and how to use her tendrils to disarm, and attack, multiple opponents. Just used some basic training dummies, that's all. I want her to realize just how much potential she has."
Yana begins to stack a little deli meat, adding in some honey mustard, lettuce, a little more deli meat. "I wanted to speak to you, as well. I meant what I said down there, that I came here to heighten my skill with my abilities. But, also to try and learn some leadership skills. Lex pointed out something - pretty true. It's," she frowns, "Hard for me to remember that not everyone here realizes what I know. Or what I'm capable of. It's just -hard- when you -do- know and - well, it's longer to explain yourself." She looks to Dani, curiously, to see if the other girl can understand where she's coming from.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani nods, "Yeah, I can understand that. But it's going to take a bit of time for people to understand it. Best way to do it is training together, working together. And I'm glad you took the time to help teach Lexi some useful tricks with her talents..." Dani then pauses, not making a sandwich for herself, but she does pilfer a slice of chicken, nibbling on that as she adds, "Took me a while to get accepted too. But it'll happen, Yana. I'll help you with what I can."

Black Rose has posed:
"Which is what I wanted to talk to you about. I - appreciate it," she says, honestly. "I know I am a leader. It's, merely getting the experience. And, learning those skillsets. Earning respect, versus being given it." Which might be a small insight into why she presently tries to lead like she does.
"Lexi's my friend. Ran into her in Mutant Town, helped save her life." She does not offer details. "She - needs someone stable, to boost her confidence. Find purpose. I need someone to, well," she considers, exhales, twists her lips, "Care about, other than myself. I didn't have brothers, or sisters. And, until this semester started? I was home-schooled." For very good reasons.

Moonstar has posed:
Dani nods, and smiles, looking a bit relieved, "Oh, okay. She's really great, and you're right, she needs her confidence boosted. Honestly, that's kinda why I nudged Tabby into admitting her feelings for Lexi. Figured Tabby's brashness would blend well with Lexi's personality. And it seems to be working pretty well so far." She smiles a little, looking rather happy about that.

Black Rose has posed:
"And, I told Lexi that Tabby was hot for her. Then I put the two of them into a room together, and left them alone," agrees Yana. "Lexi deserves to be happy." She shares a conspiratorial grin with Dani. "Though, you must've said something to Tabitha. She wrote in that note she passed me that you told her I was 'okay', but to watch my step because I'm a 'newbie'."
Yana rolls her eyes some, even as she places the buns on the sandwhiches, and slides Dani's plate to her. "As promised. One delicious sandwhich."

Moonstar has posed:
Dani smiles, "Yeah, Tabitha is pretty volatile, but she's a good person. Just... um, takes a while to get to it. And, well, I'm telling her not to listen to the rumor mill." She makes a face, "Apparently she heard some things about you and Lexi that I had to defuse pretty fast, since they were obviously rubbish." Not that it takes a lot of effort to imagine what THOSE were, as Dani takes the plate, "And murky bo-cups." Her eyes flash with a bit of amusement as she heads over to a table, sitting down in the chair and diving in.

Black Rose has posed:
"Jesus. Is she -still- on that? Right." Yana sounds mildly annoyed, "Because, I have some grand plan to put the two of them together, so I can later steal Lexi away from Tabitha." She exhales, dismissing it, some.
"In other news, I'm proud of myself for not calling Ms. Grey out on 'borrowing' my car without permission and getting alien blood all over it. Or guts. Or whatever it was. She left an apology note in the seat, though. And some money for repairs, at least." Yana seems far more amused, then upset over that.
"Didn't figure that would get me in, any sooner. So tell me about Sam? The guy who actually stuck up for me, in there?"

Moonstar has posed:
Dani sighs, "Tabby doesn't always think things through, especially when her emotions are concerned. She's... well, she's been hurt, pretty bad. It's why she lashes out the way she does." She doesn't clarify that, as that's something that it isn't her place to reveal.

Then she grins, "Wait, Ms. Grey wrecked your car? Oh man, that would be something I'd hold over her for a while... though well, Sam is a pretty good guy. He was the co-leader of the New Mutants, with me. But he decided to get promoted to be with the X-Men proper, leaving me as the one in charge." She blushes, "It's... kinda complicated. But he's cool."

Black Rose has posed:
"I need to pull him aside and thank him, properly," Yana says. She pauses, "Ah." Perhaps she's misreading Dani's blush? She smiles, "I'm pretty grateful for it. But, I'll make you a promise. I'll do my best to work up to being co-leader with you. I'll have a lot of ground to cover, admittedly. And it won't be something I get in a week, or maybe a year."
She pauses, adding, "And, I'll make Ms. Grey appreciate your trust in me to bring me down there," she further promises. "That really meant a lot to me." More, after she saw Jean visually glare at Dani, and Dani wilt. "I'll bet you don't even know, yet, half of what I can do."

Moonstar has posed:
Dani smiles, "Looking forward to seeing it, Yana. It's just... I mean, Ms. Grey was literally the first student here. And now she's pretty much running things when the Prof isn't around, so..." Yeah, normally Dani is pretty feisty to the X-Men, but if Jean disapproves she has to fight the urge to cave quickly. Just a little bit of idolizing going on there.

Dani gives Yana a wry look, "Hey, Sam and I are... well, we might have been at one point, but the timing was never right, so I kinda gave up on it. Plus, I have a girlfriend in New York and I'm quite happy with that now." She winks at Yana, apparently catching some of that read.

Black Rose has posed:
"He's cute," Yana admits, somewhat appreciatively. "Be interesting to see what kind of slave driver her is, if Doug's right. I'm not sure if anyone can be more demanding than my parents, though." There's some humor there, and some earnest conviction in her thought. She amends, though, "But, they didn't have access to a fancy simulation system, either. Damn that thing is pretty wicked. Between Lexi, you, and that? Xavier's had me sold."
She pauses, then says openly, "If I can ever do anything for you? Just let me know. Whatever it is. If it's borrowing my car, yeah I know you have a flying horse, but, people tend to notice that stuff - or, well, anything. Thanks, Dani, really. For being my friend. Means a lot."

Moonstar has posed:
Dani smiles, "Hey, I'm glad to be here for you, Yana. I'm glad that we ran into you at the rave, and were able to get you to come up here." She hmmms, "And I might take you up on that, Brightwind doesn't like flying to the City that much. Though this weekend, if we're not saving the world, I think I'm going to make a visit to see Sarah." Her eyes twinkle a bit at the thought, as she works on eating that sandwich.

Then Dani adds, "Don't let the slavedriver crack fool you. He's a softie. But that's just part of the aw shucks Southern charm. And I can tell you... he really is a great guy." Because, really, she's not bitter at how things worked out with her and Sam, it was just timing.

Black Rose has posed:
"Considering the first time I saw Doug he was - running around chasing some kind of demonimpthing around on the schoolgrounds, and not well, and babbling about it -- I'm -really- not sure what to make of him. But his plan was pretty good. I mean, it's a classic. But it's a classic, because it usually works." Yana nods, "I can always run to town, if I need to. Keys are yours. Just ask. But I -do- get a ride on Brightwind. You promised," she reminds her friend, grinning.
