Miss America has posed:
Another day, another deal at everyone's favorite ubiquitous Chinese Food Restaurant. Today? Order any main dish and get a side order of pan-fried dumpling with a filling of your choice of filling. It's simple, straightforward -- but it helps to bring in the people, turning the restaurant into a bustling hub of activity this evening as people filter in and out to gorge on their favorite meals.

Coming here, of late, has been something of a ritual for America Chavez, and though she'd hate to admit she had anything like a routine, this is by far the closest she's probably ever come to it. She's not here like clockwork, but it's close enough -- the sun has already begun to sink over the horizon, the skies darkening up above and the air cooling with the dawn of night time when the young Latina just lands at the restaurant. Quite literally. The girl just drops out of the sky out of nowhere in a gust of wind, pats herself down, and marches her way right in at a calm, laid back pace, as if nothing had even happened. Apparently, she just doesn't care who knows she can fly.

For now, she just waits in line, dressed up in something that looks like she just threw it on before she walked (flew probably) out the door: a simple, thick gray sweater with the entire front taken up by an American flag, cut-off denim shorts, and a well worn pair of sneakers. With stars. Obviously. She doesn't seem to heed anyone for now -- just places her order, and goes to find a seat at one of the larger tables, flopping back into her seat as bonelessly as can be. Just another day.

Hana Yoshida (1316) has posed:
Hana is already at a table, eating what looks like a jellyfish salad . There are bamboo steamers on her tabletop, one open with the remains of some phoenix talons inside. She looks up from her food and waves her chopsticks in salute to America as the other lady chooses a seat.

Wu has posed:
"Why do I keep getting dragged and ditched here?" Alice wonders aloud as the tall, leather-clad "gentleman" drops her off at the door before heading off dwn the road. She shakes her head and steps inside, wincing a little, before taking her place in line. Spotting America and Hana, she waves slightly, smiling professionally, on any eye contact before turning to place her order. This is a long conversation as she tries to find something, anything familiar.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Some days it's good to be able to go places without needing to have to drive a car or a plane.. And so Kae is now at everyone's favorite ubiqutous chinese place... After she enters, she glances arond, noticing some folks she might recognize, before the redhead tries to get a table very nearby... When she's there she glances at the menu and orders her self some General Tso chicken, extra spicy, and for her dumplings? Pork dumplings! Lets not forget the girl gets her favorite bbq pork buns and well a glass of iced jasmine too.. The Irish-featured woman glances over to the folks she's met before and offers an wave, and of course her seemingly every present cheerful smile.

Sublime has posed:
Even in New York there are some things that are just not common enough not to draw attention. Like flying Latino girls with a stars and stripe motif. Which is why the blonde coming up to the door halts a bit, blinking as it happens, then the girl walks in like there's no big deal. "...huh." she says absently, frowning as she tries to remember.

Which is the one with the stars and stripes? Like, Stripegirl? Miss Star? Ms. Flagg? Bah...no, that one was blonde anyway, she decides after a moment, before sauntering in slowly as she looks around, then heading over to the counter. She doesn't bother with the menu. "Beef and broccoli.' she tells the next person who can take the order, then leans back against the counter, people watching a bit as she frowns to hesrelf. Because EVERY Chinese restaurant has beef and broccoli. Or something like it that'll do. "And a diet Pepsi. NOT Coke." she says firmly. "Or Coke Zero." Because oh my god Diet Coke. Who drinks that stuff? Bleah.

Miss America has posed:
Leaning back in her seat until the front legs creak up off the ground, America seems content to just wait for her food in blissful (relative) silence, until she notices that familiar face from the corner of her eye. Her head tilts, to stare impassively at Hana for a moment, before she lifts her chin ever so slightly in greeting. "Huh. Hey. Little Miss Nada Interesante, right?" she asks, voice level; it'd be hard to tell if she was joking if it weren't for the faint loft of her brows.

Her attention drifts afterwards, though, as a few more familiar faces show up -- to Alice, she cocks a hand to the right in a half of a wave accompanied by a simple, "Yo, chica. Surprised to see you here again," and for Kaelyn, a simple nod of her head. A steaming bowl of mapo curry is set in front of her shortly thereafter, simple thanks offered up to the server before she grabs her chopsticks, looking briefly Rachel's way with a passing glance before she starts to eat.

Hana Yoshida (1316) has posed:
"Hana desu." she says. "Hana Yoshida." the pale girl adds after. "I suppose I'm not very interesting. That's alright with me." and she finishes up her jellyfish and opens a steamer of Har Gau and plucks one from the basket. Before she has a bite she notices the others that America treats and she manages a smile for them too.

Wu has posed:
"Thank you," Alice says in English once she's managed to negotiate the meal she wants. She pays, takes the receipt, and leaves the (sizable) change in the tip jar by way of apology for being so pushy. The little crumpled ball of rice paper she dropped on the counter while talking gets dropped into a wastebin on her way to the table.
"Anyone sitting here?" she asks as she pulls up a chair, spinning it around and sitting facing the back of it like she's a cop questioning a suspect on a TV drama. "Nice to see you both again."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae looks from person to person curiously now sipping on her iced tea as she glances around curiously. "So how is everyone doing today?" she asks curiously, taking another long drink on her tea as she eers around curiously again, then her dumplings arrive. Kae smiles happily and deftly picks up her chopsticks, before she begins nibbling on them while watching the others curiously.

Sublime has posed:
Well. This is a friendly place. Or everyone eats her regularly, Rachel supposes. She looks over as her food arrives, then snags it it and her drink, before sauntering over, then pausing by the big table, before just plopping down, rather than asking first. It's not like there's anywhere else to sit anyway, and she's not going to eat standing up! If she wanted that, she would have gone to the streetfood shop down the street, after all.

Her ice blue eyes flick over the others, returning to America for a moment, then the pale girl eating the octopus. Then to Kae and Alice. As if she's pondering if she's on the weird side of the room or the normal side of the room, or if it's just a mix of the two.

Miss America has posed:
"Hana," repeats Chavez as the pale girl introduces herself. "Simple enough. I like it." With that, the star-spangled Latina just jabs a thumb against her collar and offers her own easy introduction, "America," before plucking up that bowl to fish out a piece of spicy tofu. She looks up when Hana speaks again, head tilt to the side. "You're good, chica," she says after a moment. "You do you."

It's when Alice rounds up to the table and asks that question that America turns her gaze towards her way. "Knock yourself out," she answers, wrapping her knuckles on the table once by way of invitation... only to lift a lone brow just a bit as Alice chooses that laid back interrogation style arrangement. "Guess we're the regulars now," she notes, absently, before her attention drifts Rachel's way. As the blonde just sits, America cocks her head, considers her for a long, critical moment with those intense eyes... and then just nods. "What's up," is about all she offers before she just looks down at herself for a long moment at the end of Kaelyn's question. She considers.

"Still alive. So good enough for me." And with that exciting proclamation out of the way, she gets back to eating her tofu.

Hana Yoshida (1316) has posed:
Hana chews her dumpling thoughtfully for a long moment, then speaks up again. "Have any of you heard anything about an explosion in Gotham's Chinatown?" she wonders. She looks to Alice. "You said you were a policewoman, yes? Heard anything about money stolen from the yakuza? People with energy weapons?" she asks the other lady.

Wu has posed:
"I can't really comment on investigations in progress," Alice says, looking back at Hana levelly, face blank of all emotion. "I have heard of an explosion, although not in China Basin. That's in the newspapers. I can't comment with further detail."
Rachel gets a pass-over with the eyes. Then a closer, more analytical one. The face remains blandly neutral while her eyes continue the scanning and land on Kaelyn, who gets a quick smile of greeting.
    "Miss Silverleaf, always a pleasure."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae tilts her head curioulsy at the mention of explosions and Yakuza.... "Oh I was there at that one I bet I can give you guys information ya prolly don't have." she says cand grins at the flavor of one of the pan fried dumplings. Next she looks at American curiously and ooohs "Soo exciting day today?" asks Kae as she tilts her head curiously.

Sublime has posed:
Rachel notes the moment of silence and raises her head, looking back at America and meeting her eyes, now, before a thin blonde brow raises, before she smiles faintly, and shrugs. "S'okay..." she says simply. "America, huh." Apparently having heard the introduction. "Explains the outfit?" She gestures absently to the star motif. " She glances over as Hana brings up the explosion, then catches Alice looking her way the second time. "Heard it was an inside job or something..." Rachel say absently, stabbing at a bit of broccoli, then looks at the redhead curiously. "Really? Okay, so what went down red?" she says, curious now.

Miss America has posed:
"Something like that," is America's vague non-answer of an answer to Rachel's question, looking down at her casually-slung-together outfit. But her attention is soon stolen, brown eyes fall quizzically on Hana as she speaks; America's brows scrunch inward scarcely a fraction of an inch. "Energy weapons, huh," she asks, not really bothering to pretend not to be butting in on the conversation. It's all one big table, after all. "Know something about it?" she offers up to Hana, curious, before Kaelyn pipes up next.

"Same old same old," she says first and foremost to that question, because it's not where the bulk of her interest lies. She sets down her bowl, chair legs hitting ground again as she tilts her head Kaelyn's way. "What d'you got?"

Hana Yoshida (1316) has posed:
"I thought not, but it was worth a try." Hana agrees. "Though as a law-enforement officer, if there is something we as citizens should know to keep ourselves and our families safe, I am certain that we would appreciate hearing it... especially if there are gangs wandering the streets with high-tech weapons and gear." She looks at Kae. "Nihongo o wakarimasu ka?" she asks. 'Do you understand Japanese?' is her question.
A look back to America. "What do you think?" she asks the other woman, the touch of a smile on her face.

Breath has posed:
Lyssa slips in quietly with a folded kick-scooter in hand, and looks around a bit, awkwardly, brushing their hair back idly and self-connsciously straightening their skirt.

. o O ( 'Hey Lyssa, we want some us time', they said. 'here's some money, go get a bite to eat and take your time', they said. Sheesh, like I'm supposed to know how long I have to stay out. )

Lyssa gives Alice and Kae a second glance and frowns faintly in thought. . o O ( Those two again? Weird. I don't know if I like the way the one was looking at me.. ) They sort've daintily pick their way across the room, looking for someone to indicate where they should sit.

Wu has posed:
"Generally, it is best to stay away from gang operations if you can at all manage it. This is true in any city from Hong Kong to Gotham to everywhere in between or around." Alice looks around the table. "This is especially true when the gangs are not local," she adds for emphasis, as if providing an obscure clue.
"..." She's interrupted in what she was about to say by the arrival of her dish, a steamer with an odd sweet/savoury scent pouring out of it and a large bowl of rice.
"Ah, perfect. Who knew that a place like this did custom orders?"
    It doesn't.
She opens the steamer and starts spooning a red-brown coated mix of meat and something starchy over the rice, conversation forgotten.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae responds to Hana in rather equally unaccented Japanese << Yup sure do, stayed a year in Osaka>> she says and grins a bit then before answering the questions directed at her. "HOnestly? First and foremost the bombing was -not- inside, a setup and stage, but not an inside. The Yakuza had nothing to do with the destruction of their own parlor... Secondly, There was another group of guys there, well trained, stupendously armed, and tough as nails..." She says and sighs "Am thinking the whole thing was a complete setup by the high tech group.... Lastly, I was able to pick up some evidence, and well got a trace and a possible location to start looking for the people who started all this... " She says and shrugs... "Am thinking of going there tomorrow after I've prepared a bit and have time to grab some stuff to help me in case I run into trouble."

Sublime has posed:
Rachel tenses. Just slightly. When it's mentioned Alice is a law enforcement officer. It's a very minor twitch, and then she keeps eating as if nothing happened, though now her head turns so she can keep Alice in her line of sight. "You're going? Shouldn't that be a cop thing to do?" she says to Kaelyn as the girl explains. "I mean, if they got all these weapons and bombs?"

Miss America has posed:
"Got me," is America's flat response for Hana, her shoulders lifting easily into the air. "Kinda why I asked." True or not, though, the Latina shifts in her seat a bit as Alice offers that potential hint of a clue. Her lips purse into a pensive frown, but she says nothing, as if letting herself get lost into whatever array of thoughts might be drifting in and out of her mind.

"Yeah," she utters to Alice, half-aware, "I'll keep that in mind."

It's Kaelyn's explanation of the events, offered up so freely, that stirs America out of her reverie. Dark eyes look to the woman, considering her with that sharp stare for all of a handful of seconds before she utters a simple, "Huh," in response. Her hand goes for her bowl, plucking it up as she brings those chopsticks to bear, pausing only briefly to offer some short advice to the redhead, "Blondie's right, you oughta be careful with that crap," before she eats, chewing on some pork as her gaze casts down to Alice's steamer.

"You must be one pushy hardass," she notes to Alice as she wonders over her custom order. The tone, at least, doesn't sound negative in the slightest. Catching Lyssa looking for a seat, she nods her head in their direction, as if to silently usher them over before she returns to her meal.

Hana Yoshida (1316) has posed:
"<Don't go alone."> Hana says to the Irish girl. "<At least take one of those heroes with you.>" she advises in Japanese. "Don't mind her." she must mean Kaelyn. "She's very talkative." She goes back to her har gau while she watches the others talk.

Breath has posed:
Lyssa pauses and blinks at the nod. Do I know them? Lyssa freezes a bit, trying to decide how to take that, and slowly edges closer to the table, not wanting to take any liberties from a misunderstanding. They smile meekly and lift their fingers in a slight, easily deniable, confused friendly wave, still glancing around briefly. Just in case a server materializes and ushers them away. That hasn't seemed to happen yet, though..

Wu has posed:
"I find, actually," Alice opinies at America's implied question, "that courtesy, a friendly smile, and a touch of mind control are all that's needed to get good service."
Her face is deadpan. She'd do well in certain styles of standup comedy being able to keep a straight face like that while joking.
"There's really nothing here they didn't have in the back: pork bellies, taro root, five-spice powder, cracked rice. They just had to make it differently; a minor procedural difference."
Another chopstick full--FULL--vanishes into her mouth and succumbs to almost orgasmic levels of chewing and enjoyment.
"If you need assistance in that venture, Ms. Silverleaf," she says, addressing Kaelyn, "you should probably not go in alone. I would tend to agree with prevailing opinion."
That wasn't worded as an offer...

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae blinks and shrugs "Not that anyone outside our little circle will even remember a thing I'm saying.." Kae mutters, now poking at her food some with her chopsticks before taking a bite of her chicken. "Anyhoo, I may not look it but I'm quite capable of taking care of my self." she says, still grinning. Kae then glances to Lyssa and tries to encourage her to sit with them, before she glances to Hanna <<Well if I can, I don't intend to go alone. If I have to I will... Not that Bat-boy Red-Robin really liked the idea of me getting involved>> She responds in Japanese without a thought. Kae lets go of her chopsticks briefly to grab her glass... Her chopsticks continue to pick up a bit of chicken and convey it to her mouth without her. Right after Kae takes a swallow, then she takes up the chopsticks again, and histles.... "But yes I won't go alone. The fellow I saw was some kind of enhanced being I'm thinking... He was able to do a bunch of damage to one of my wards with just a sword..."

Sublime has posed:
The blonde at the end of the table gets a speculative look as Kaelyn claims she can take care of herself, looking her over a little doubtfully. She doesn't LOOK like she could. Then again, America doesn't look like she could fly unless you'd seen it either....though of the two, she'd be slightly more willing to bet on America being able to deal with something like that. Girl looks solid. Speaking of which...

"Rachel." she says, apparently not wanting to become 'blondie'. "And I'd take her up on the offer, Red." she says, nodding at Alice. "At least she's got backup if she needs it."

Her eyes flick curiously to Lyssa as she moves closer, mostly at the meekness. Well. Maybe she's shy.

Miss America has posed:
"Yeah," America asides to Alice, with a conversational lack of affect to complement the officer's own. "I just bet."

Two poker faces like theirs probably doesn't make for a very good comedic duo, though.

"Gotta put in some legwork if you ever wanna get anything done the way you want it, I guess," she ultimately decides of Alice's meal, before returning to her tofu. It's really a tribute to her voracious appetite that she's very nearly done by the time Kaelyn tries to assure them all. Coupled with Hana's dismissive words, it just makes her lift a brow towards a slow, skeptical arch. "Just a big damn gossip," she tacks on after the fact, before she sets that empty bowl down. Hands shoving into the pocket of her sweater, she looks Rachel's way with a brief, critical stare.

"Alright, Rach," she concedes easily with a small look of wry but well-meaning amusement, otherwise content, for now, to just listen to Kaelyn continue to describe the event in silence. Everyone else seems to have covered the 'don't go alone!' angle pretty damn well.

Hana Yoshida (1316) has posed:
Hana pushes over another basket towards America. "There are some siu mai in there if you care for shrimp and pork." she offers. "It's good to have a gossip in your circle - it distracts people from seeing the job get done." she says sagely.

Breath has posed:
Lyssa nods quietly and pulls out a chair, arranging herself delicately and sitting, setting their purse in their lap and looking around with a hesitant smile. Lyssa smiles watchfully, keeping Alice in the corner of their eye, and offers a hesitant squeaky "Hello-o.." They glance around a bit, trying to take in the group and decipher, maybe, what about them drew their attention.

Wu has posed:
"Actually my job," Alice says, regarding Rachel, "would be more to make sure she stays out of the way of people investigating the crime so that there's less room for misunderstanding." Short pause. "And to kill opposition who threatens a civilian, naturally, but that goes without saying."
And idle wave and glance of greeting is spared Lyssa's way with no visible sign of recognition.
"What we most need from this situation at the moment, however, is the distancing of team spandex." A glance and a wicked grin America's way. "No offense," she adds with a glint in her eye. "The situation is complicated and not really helped by well-meaning costumed amateurs. Ms. Silverleaf has the decency to not wear spandex."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae tilts her head then introduces her self "Kaelyn.. Kaelyn Silverleaf is my name." She says cheerfully by way of introduction. Kae peers at Alice now curiously "I can if you want, but I prefer blue jeans..." She adds and tilts her head "Anyhow, my plan is to get information, find out more about this stuff and give that information to the right people... I might even stay around and help once the right folks show up." She says with.. She pauses a moment and grins as she looks to Lyssa and motions to an empty seat.. "Pop a squat, relax hang out!" Kae directs toward Lyssa. Kae sighs now as she glances at her cell phone... She reads what's there and mutters "Gotta get back to the shop.." She glances to the others and grins a bit, making sure to get lids for her meal and all, what with it being served in those nifty sealable plastic thingies, as she ordered her food 'for here' but with the intention of going home with half her meal... The wait staff then shows up with a large bag of goodies, which Kae pays for, then grins "Taking food to the girls... I think I'm spoiling my workers, go all over the place to bring them a nice treat... Anyhoo I better go before it gets cold!" Kae says and starts to head toward the door.

Sublime has posed:
Rachel lets out an amused snort at Alice's comment on heroes, though she does peer over at American, thoughfully, as if imagining that, then shakes her head. Totally not a spandex girl, she suspects. She nods to the newcomer. "Hey..." she says absently, watching Kaelyn head off, then purses her lips, before popping another bit of her beef and broccoli past her lips, chewing. "She'd probably look good in it, at least." she says absently, at the mention of Kadelyn in spandex. "Does kinda let people know who you are when you show up in it though. You'd think a good disguise would work much better."

Miss America has posed:
Team spandex. Alice manages to wrest a grin from America, small but doubtlessly amused in that wry way of hers as those dark brown eyes roll the officer's way. "We're good," she assures, tapping a fist against the front of that billowy mess of a sweater she's wearing. "Not really the cape and tights type. I do my own thing." Which really isn't an assurance one way or the other, at the end of the day.

With a short, passing wave for both the arriving Lyssa and the departing Kaelyn with a simple, "Watch your back," to the leaving redhead before that basket slides her way. She blinks, looking down at it for a moment, and then back up at Hana. "Damn right I do," is her answer, taking up that basket to partake in one after offering up a small, grateful nod and an uttering of "Thanks."

Brown eyes flit Rachel's way. She chews on that siu mai, swallowing it down with a gulp before she speaks. "Got plenty of those, too," she says, like someone who's been around that block. "My experience, plenty of jackasses on both sides of that equation."

Hana Yoshida (1316) has posed:
Hana jabs her chopsticks in Alice's direction. "<You can't keep the Bat out of your business. You know he is going to interfere.>" she says in Cantonese. Then a bit of a smile for Lyssa. "Welcome. Sorry for all the mess. I always order too many steam baskets." A look to Rachel. "That's probably what they want when they're wearing their colors - to announce that they're there and are good. It's the people who live in the shadows that wear the disguises... and they often are up to no good." she says that as if she knows this all too well. She peers back at America, considering if she just more or less admitted to being a superhero. "Dozo."

Breath has posed:
Lyssa uhs at Rachel. "I don't know, I don't think anybody would take me seriously if I started yelling about monsters and aliens and things dressed like this, you know? By the way.. Do I.. know any of you? Or do I just have, like, some sort of reputation I don't know about?"

Lyssa racks her brain a bit.. I mean, other than that thing with the sea monsters, mostly she just does stuff around the bad part of Brooklyn, unless somebody recognized her from the LGBT center she watches sometimes? She supposes she's a *bit* distinctive still? Unless she actually knows someone here and doesn't recognize them? She gives faces another pass checking for any distinctive effects of hormones, just in case, because that would be embarrassing.. awesome story though she guesses.. but no luck so far.. Maybe they are mistaking her for some *other* distinctive T-girl? That seems *very* implausible.. and it's not like she has glowing eyes or anything...

Wu has posed:
Alice finishes her meal with a final flourish of enjoyment.
"I think it's time for me," she says apologetically, "to get back to my part of town. By which I mean my actual town." She stands up and gathers her utensils together for the convenience of bussing. "It was a pleasure to meet the Joy Luck Club again," she says with a grin. "I look forward to our next gathering."
With that she tips an imaginary hat and works her way out the door.

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "OK, you're ugly, your skin don't fit right, and your mother dresses ya funny. Now punch me and buy me beers."

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "Pork scratching is when you take a dead pig, run your fingernails over it, and fry up what gets caught under them."

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "Thor, date me instead. My father was a clean cop (by Hong Kong standards, I mean) and my mother a mystic guardian."

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "Ares is a gentleman and more concerned with his son than his gonads."

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "This is the quote I'm emphatically not thinking of when Thor says that Diana wants to steal his hammer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7bdr6fjg-k"

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "It denotes a position or a direction of superior altitude."

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "I had to feed you the line as penance for my bad joke."

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "So some kind of neighbourhood bar like Kelsey's from All in the Family?"

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "Well the way I eat it isn't salted. Fatty, definitely. :D"

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "I didn't mean to give you such a mediocre bean. :-("

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "Can be as short as 5 minutes and as long as two days assuming no issues."

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "The staff here is usually VERY quick on these things."

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "Actually I once saw someone approved before they moved from the final CG room to the OOC room."

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "But that was exceptional. Ruby was bored and was reading the app as it was being written, so was right there for the submission. :D"

Wu has posed:
Alice Gulliver says, "I'm one of those people who lives for others too. You can always spot these others by the hunted look in their eyes..."

Wu has posed:
The phone call was as vague as it was unexpected.
"Mr. Aaron. This is Detective Gulliver. I've come into something that I think I need your expertise in. Could we meet at Four Freedoms?"
Time and date were 1PM and today respectively. And, at 1PM sharp, with the accuracy of a mechanical clock with a 25m long pendulum, Alice appears in the plaza, her low heels clacking against the pavement like a metronome.
The plaza itself is a little unusually empty for the time of day, likely a result of the threatening drizzle that almost, but not quite, entirely fails to materialize. To her usual ensemble Alice has added a beige overcoat, slightly rumpled, like she's channeling Columbo. She pauses only to pick up four hot dogs from a vendor, covering each in a different topping, before proceeding to the most central point in the plaza for ease of spotting.
