Cast of Characters: Jemma Simmons, Nick Fury, Leo Fitz

Jemma Simmons has posed:
The R&D department is a whir of machines, the shake of agitators and the movement of scientists as they go about their business of science. Toward the back, a brunette with her hair pulled back and lab coat covering her plain clothes observes multiple test tubes and charts. Each one is meticulously labeled and she hums a bit as she goes about her business. Generally, Fitz and Simmons are rarely apart from each other in the lab: FitzSimmons, joined at the hip. There's a reason they have a shared name.

At the moment, though, Simmons is alone. Pulling on a pair of gloves and safety glasses, she picks up a pipette and dabs a droplet of one vial into another. "Come on, come on," she murmurs, waiting for her desired reaction. There's a pause and then the blue liquid begins to foam like dishwasher detergent, spilling over the vial and onto the table. "Oh! Oh dear, um, towels! Towels someone! From the blue bag, the one for biological! Watch your step!"

Nick Fury has posed:
Walking into the Lab in the Triskelion was none other than the Director of SHIELD himself, Nick Fury. The General was alone, and wearing his traditional SHIELD uniform. His eyes scan the room with confidence and zeroes in on his target - Simmons. Where all the chaos was coming from, of course.

Walking towards her, Fury ignores the looks of fear and terror he receives from most of the junior Agents present as they see him, and decide whether to hide or rush to help Simmons. Fury remains in the background for a few moments, before moving forward, absorbing everything.

"Agent Simmons." Fury says. Those words carry a lot of meaning in them. His tone of voice betrays that he was there for something. After all, how often did the Director come down to the lab? Fury crosses his arms across his chest, and says, "A moment of your time...if you are not too busy?" His words were glacial and calm.

Leo Fitz has posed:
"--Wait!" of course it's already too late "--Spalding's math is wrong! It won't produce what we think and I don't think it'll stop--" Fitz's voice emits from behind a large white board in the far corner of the room. Evidently the pair don't have a problem yelling across the room.

But the mention of towels draws his attention. "Next time let's do all our own math, yeah?" he's still a little prickly towards the presumed outsiders that he hasn't exactly embraced since he and Simmons came here. He pokes out from around the large whiteboard and his eyes widen. "That's a biological reagent! Towels!" he repeats to the junior agents who are now just standing around. "Now! Move your butts! Now!" Of course, when Fitz orders something it comes out as more panicked than demanding.

Yet the shock of the visitor doesn't seem to have anyone else in a panic aside from the infamous FitzSimmons. He actually runs across the lab, jumping over the spreading biological reagent and crashing into the cart with the blue bag which is promptly thrown towards Simmons.

Leo twists around to the other agents. "That's why we don't eat in the lab, yeah? Food in the lunch room. I mean you, Rory." His eyes narrow and then fall on the Director. "...Sir." He straightens and adjusts the tie that sits over his gingham-print blue shirt.

Jemma Simmons has posed:
As always, Simmons expects Fitz to have her back. It's too late for her to take back the reaction, but Fitz is there with the bag she requested. Expertly, Simmons dumps the towels over the table and then with the - now empty bag - scoops up the overflowing vial. The special fabric swells as it absorbs the fizzing liquid and the bag itself swells and then steadies as it contains the overflowing substance. Holding it up like a prized bird, she grins. "Got it!"

To Fitz, she immediately shakes her head. "I doubt it was merely the math, Fitz! There's something having to do with the--" Then, she blinks, seeing that the Director is standing there. And did he address her? Oh dear. "Director Fury!" The bag is quickly lowered and then hidden behind her back in a sheepish fashion. "No, of course, not busy at all. Merely finishing up a bit of a lab experiment. It's going..." she side eyes to Fitz, "...very well." Then, with an embarrassed smile, she adds, "How may we be able to help?" She automatically assumes that Fitz is also required.

Nick Fury has posed:
Watching the organized chaos around him, Fury stifles the smile he felt coming as Fitz does the "pole vault", and instead does his best "Fury Frown". Looking over his shoulder at the man behind the white board, and now beside Simmons, Nick Fury nods, and says, "Agent Fitz. You need to hear this as well." Everything was calm, as though nothing had happened.

Looking at the area, as chaos slowly slid into order, Fury says, "Agents, I wanted to speak to the two of you about confirming your positions as head of R&D for SHIELD here at the Triskelion." Fury looks around again, and if it was possible, his frown deepens. "Although I may be re-assessing that." Fury unravels his arms from across his chest, and rests his right hand on the gun in the holster at his hip, while using his left hand to point at the two scientists. "I am also considering you for Field Agent status i.e., Operational Medical, Science and Technology Section Heads on the new Helicarrier we are commissioning next month, the ODYSSEY. Thoughts?"

Leo Fitz has posed:
Fitz ALMOST maintains his composure as Simmons rescues the lab from imminent biological threat. But... not quite. His relief is palpable as he looks to the ceiling. And, if anyone is paying attention, they can catch the small fist pump at his side. It's a win when they don't put the building into lockdown.

Leo snap-points at Jemma, "Right! You're right--it probably has to do with the oxidization. We accounted for friction--"

Jemma continues, ""--velocity---"

"--density--"

"--mass...even oxidation!--"

"--but not oxid//ization//!"

Simmons nods, just as excited as Fitz in this moment. They've reached a break through. "We did not account for the betas or the fatty acids! This manner of attempting to break down the trifunctional proteins would in fact strengthen the bonds, causing such a violent and, well, fizzy reaction. Fitz, you've got it!" The pair seem unable to help themselves, the science bubbling over into their speech no matter the company. However, she does quiet as the Director commands their attention.

Much like Simmons, Leo stills when the Director speaks. The notion of coming field agents causes him to suck on the inside of his cheek while his hands tuck deeply into his pockets. He rocks lightly on the balls of his feet. Forward. And back. "I... I don't know about that. I mean, the lab is one things, but field status..." his eyes flit towards Simmons. "I mean, I appreciate the consideration... yeah?" Of course, his hesitation could melt very easily.

Jemma Simmons has posed:
In fact, her and Fitz's break through entirely stops as Fury tells them that he wishes them to run the R&D department of the Triskelion. "Oh, no, we are certainly able to be confirmed!" Simmons says, looking to Fitz to garner his support that they can handle it. The bag behind her back squishes slightly as it expands just a half an inch. Ignore that.

Then, though, he mentions field status and Simmons can't help but perk at that. "Field Agent status?" A smile crosses her face, one that Fitz will instantly recognize as happiness: an opportunity she wishes to leap at. "On a Helicarrier? Director, that would be remarkable! Imagine, Fitz, the travel! The excitement! The amazing amounts of new specimens we might be able to catalogue and explore. We could really take the DWARFS out for a proper run, not just tests on the mess."

Nick Fury has posed:
Fury nods, and puts his hands behind his back. His eyes look at the two agents in front of him, back and forth as they finish each other's sentences and go on and on. Fury absorbs all that, and takes several minutes before saying anything while the lab is cleaned up around them. Including the "squishy" sounds behind Simmons back.

"Coulson told me you two were like this. Huh." Fury pauses, and continues. "If the two of you have a moment to come back to what I said, we can move forward." Fury pauses again, and shakes his head.

"I think the both of you are incredible assets, Agent Simmons. Agent Fitz." His eyes find Agent Fitz, and then Agent Simmons, and he nods. "That is why I am considering the more active role. Including the field test with the DWARFS."
Fury glowers at a Level 1 Agent as the lab tech tries to clean Fury's boots, and whatever it was that had gotten on them from FitzSimmons' experiment. Slowly the Agent backs away on his knees, as Fury continues. "Now. We can talk further. Get this..." Fury waves around the lab with his right hand in a sweeping motion, "...cleaned up, and report to Assistant Director Hill asap with your requirments and requests." Fury nods. "I'll leave ya' too it. Try not to blow up my Headquarters Agents?" Fury's words were almost a plea.

Leo Fitz has posed:
Simmons's excitement causes Leo to take on a pained expression. His face draws into a small frown and he takes a single step backwards from the pair. "We... can discuss it." The thought of field testing the DWARFs does inspire him. He manages a vague smile towards the Director and then another towards the Director.

He nods curtly at the question. "We'll do our best, Sir."

Jemma Simmons has posed:
The expression she receives from Fitz is one that leaves a puzzled one on Jemma's face. "Of course," she tells her best friend a it more softly, only slightly more subdued. Her excitement of the idea of being an agent and working on a Helicarrier is all but visible.

The orders from the Director are met with a bit of wide eyes and then a nod. "Yes, of course. We would never try to blow up the Headquarters." Immediately wincing as she realizes how that sounds she adds, "We would never blow up Headquarters. Unless you wished us to do so." That sounds better, right? She can do better. "Or, well, ever. That might be the best option, I think. Thank you, Director."
