Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
The Enchanted Grounds, Coffee shop, Occult and New Age store is one interesting place. The front quarter of this amazingly deep shop is dominated by a checkout counter, and well a coffee shop and reading lounge too? There is a full service coffee shop opposite the checkout counter, this more of a kyosk style rather than just a coffee bar set against the wall, as a big chunk of the counter swings out into the floor. The wall behind the counter is dominated with shelf after shelf of cofee tea, a soda fountain. There's even an ice cream freezer. Lets not forget the back side of the counter has a few sandwitch grills and a couple fat friers. Seem this place is also a bit of a cafe. There's also a baked goods display, and some refrigerated cases that have cheese and nut mixtures, cold sandwitches, fruit trays. And to the left of that? A quartet cauldron looking pots that probably have the soups of the day.

There are plenty of small tables, a couple larger round tables, and couch areas kind of scattered throughout the shop as a whole, and row after row of shelves.. Some of these along the walls many form isles, the whole place is layed out like some kind of fun labrynth of gizmos, goodies, magical supplies, and many many books. Some are new age, some are sci-fi and fantasy related books. The gigantic turntable shelf in the back has reprints of rare antique books. Half of that turtable shelf sits in the wall of the building, evidently they load the thing from the back. There are also plenty of touchscreen tablets near displays showing some of the more expensive books, as well as a quartet of computers, and 2 more tablets that list the antique books the store currently has in stock. Evidently they don't leave those really pricy books and items out front where anyone can handle them. Two sometimes three helper scan be seen moving about the place. You have Wendy, a blond girl choosing to wear a kind of witches getup behind the cofee counter.. Tanya who likes to tend the register and help customers find things. She's dressed like some kind of sorceress, and Tina, Tanya's Twin who well, she's dressed the same way and acts like a go between from Tanya to Wendy.

All in all the store is a unique blend of different idealogies that someone has found a way to fit together into a nice large-ish botique and coffee cafe. There is another thing in the area that might grab folks attention though, in the far back there's a large ornate iron and heavy wood door with the words "Employees only" written in fine script across the door its self. The other neat feature of the building are the front windows, these being made of stained glass instead of clear glass panes... The designes of the stained glass resemble occult symbols, as do the bars in front of the stained glass.

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah is pretty smart for her age, but there are limits to what she can do. She has been studying to try to build a flying platform, but has been having trouble with the design. It may take her three or four months, she is looking into a shortcut. They say Technology advanced enough is indistinguishable from magic, so possibly magic can solve her problem. She does not really want what she is doing coming to the attention of her friends though, which is why she is here. She looks, when she walks in, pretty much like a very pretty but geeky high school girl.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Speaking of Magic and advanced technology or even advanced magic and all. This shop seems to be loaded with definate advanced 'magic' per hapse. There's a whole display cabinet with lifelike high detail brass nickle and copper clockworks. These things look almost litterally sculpted from clay they're so detailed. At the counter is a tall-sih redhead, instead of one of the normal twins, Those two are currently trying to replace stocks after Kae, again had to spend a ton of her savings to well replace all that stuff, what with the triage they all did the other day... Stocks in the healing department are dangerously low.

The twins have the back door open, and it's obvious they're brewing potions, there are all kinds of alchemical equipment set up and well of course a more than a few cauldrons. At least things actually smell nice. Kae meanwhile has a number of what appear to be clockworks in front of her, she's working on all of them, carefully setting gears and the like on what appear to be small bird and insect clockworks. Nearby is a well, it's a tiny cat-sized dragon thing... IT really looks amaizingly real, however close look would reveal that it may be some kind of construct? It moves quite lifelike, the eyes actually appear to be smooth gemstones, all the way down to the internal faceting and the like. Still they give off a very life-like glow to them, add to it the little creature even blinks now and then, like it's doing a the new entry.

The little dark bronze and nickle colored dragon construct chirps at the new person, tail lashing briefly and wings flaring just a bit. Kae's attention isn't really diverted, till the little creature reaches over and shakes Kae's hand... Kae looks at the critter and mutters "Umm Fan? Wha..." she now catches Sarah and smiles "Oh, Hi! Welcome to Enchanted Grounds!" The girl at the coffee bar, Wendy blinks and laughs "Yup yer in yer own world again Boss!" Kae looks to Wendy and sticks out her tongue "I had a longer night than you did!" She adds... Wendy then smirks "Yup, sure did, ordering all that stuff..." Kae then looks to Sarah and umms "Yah, most of our healing stuff is being restored at this point, so if you need a salve, or unguent, polstice, or potion for that kind of thing there's a bit of a wait." she says and makes an apologetic smile.

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah studies the clockworks intently, she has a fine grasp of...well almost everything really. She is simply that good, he has the equivalent of several advanced college degrees. She takes out something from her pocket, it is a version of her Auric scanner but built into a tablet computer instead of her helmet...it will tell her if there is real magic here.

Sarah says pointing at one of the partly assembled designs, "You know, if you put in two smaller gears here and here, you will get a better torque ratio to this gear over here. Is there a reason not to do it that way?"

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Three's TONS of magic here, the whole place is litteraly a magical playground, wards, magical items, you name it. Hell probably up fron the least magical things is probably the books and the coffee, being that they have to cater to normal folks and not just magic folk too...

Kae smiles a bit and tilts her head, looking at the place Sarah motions "True, but I'm aiming for thrust and movement to weight ratios found in nature." She motions to the wings, that are on the table and picks one up, it's fine, it might as well be made of ultra-fne gossamer or some other material as the veined insect wing is quite see through... The veins in it are actually fine bits of magically reinforced copper. "Too much torque on these lil suckers and they'll break, just like a real wing." she says with a slight smile.

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah nods, "The trick when building an ornithopter is that the materials you are building from are rarely the same density as the natural creature. There are those who specialize in such constructs, when trying to calculate the flight dynamics of extinct species like pterasaurs for example. You have to account for the difference if you are using something like copper in the construction Copper is denser than living tissue."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae grins a bit... "I don't use the copper because it's normal engineering specifications. Its a good conductor." she says and hands over the wing.. It barely weighs anything, in fact it's weight is almost non existant... "There's a lil more than copper there, buuuut...." Kae says and shrugs before the little dragon construct suddenly chirps at seeing Wendy wave to it, and yes, the little dragon flies across the room with a few flaps before gliding and landing in the arms of Wendy, the girl dressed as a mage behind the counter..

The creature is given a small cookie and rubbed under the chin while Kae chats at Sarah

Kae then motions to the little dragon "You'd think Fanhuile there would weigh a bloody ton.. he doesn't even break 20 pounds." she says with a big smile. "Soo is there a ways I can be of assistance? Or we can stand here talking clockworks and magical constructs if you like. It's a passion and calling of mine.

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah says, "A bit of both actually. I have been working on building a flying machine, something capable of hovering and of dynamic flight at moderate speeds. I have been studying Mohlar ducter air flyers but I am having trouble getting the balance and stearing to work properly."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae oooh's and nods slightly.. "Ummm, usually I'm using different means to fly and all than Ducted Air... using magic for gravidic manipulation is more my thing..." She then umms "Thing flying carpets, brooms, etc... Sooo what exactly are you looking for me to do?" Kae asks curiously, and at this point Wendy is over giggling as she plays with the little dragon who is doing a very good imitation of a scaly cat as it's getting into the string that Wendy is waving around it, chasing hopping and getting tangled in... Even to the point of chomping its own tail tip which makes it emit a pained squeek.

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah says, "Well...What I am working on is kind of like a flying surfboard...but one stylized to look like a skull." She is trying to decide how much to say while there are others present.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae oooh's and nods... "Soo yer building a fying thingie to stand on... What is it you need me to come up with? Some way to duct the air? You want it to have a better power source than you can currently come up with? Better interface For control? Enchantments to stabilize it?" She asks curiously and rubs at the back of her neck... "You want enchanted reinforced materials?"

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah starts interacting with her tablet, and pulls up an image file. It shows that the "skull" image is mostly from below, that the mouth and the eyes of the skull are the air vents to let the ducted air fanjets emit the air. She explains, "The problem is that while the three points of the triangle do let you balance the thrust, so you can pretty much steer in any direction by adjusting the balance of the rider, the transition between hover mode and dynamic flight mode is extremely rough. Then there is the problem of the active control surfaces...while in dynamic flight you have to steer using a foot yoke rather than by balancing, using foot pressure to control the aerolons. This leaves the hands free for other things. The transition between modes of control is part of the problem."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae oooh's "Sooo again, what is it you want me to make?" she asks curiously, rubbing the back of her neck. "All those things I might can address, but it would be in a different way than you might be used to." She says and smiles before shrugging "I mean, I could per say make a broom that can hover and maneuver like a helicoptor, then later go super sonic speeds and somehow keep the rider from being affected by the airial turbulance... Really apply the right spells and the right thrust and you can make just about anything fly... I just need to know what exactly you want me to make for this project of yours? You want me to take care of the propulsion, switch you off ducted air and make it a more gravity base? figure out a better way to do the ducted air without you needing large power plants for it? Fix your control surfaces with magic tha twill aid them, put wards on it that would basically make you and your board act like a perfect aerodynamic figure when you fly around so there's no issue with transition from hovering to regular flight?"

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah sighs, "Well, currently I am on a limited budget, there is only so much sa person my age can legally do to make money. The OTHER half my my problem has been getting the proper materials to build with. I am able to help you with construction, at least of technological constructs, but as well as something that works and looks impressive, it has to be affordable."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae blinks and nods "Well that's the trick isn't it? There's a few options here... I can sell to you the materials you can go and do this stuff your self... I can provide you with the scrolls you need to cast the spells your self. The scrolls will allready be imbued with magic, but if you mess it up, like any thing else there can be issues... That's by far the cheapest way to do this... You can have me or my workers here do the enchantments... That will cost a little bit and what with all this crazyness going on with the gangs striking and a city block in Metropolis getting obliterated, I'm pretty backed up..." Kae says and rubs at the back of her neck then tilts her head. "Anyhow, the most expensive bits for any enchantment is the labor and all... Materials arent' too terribly expensive... I do know how to use normal electricity to power a spell matrix so that wouldn't be a big deal. Your board thingie would be electrical in nature... That way you'd just have to charge it with a plugin... But again, yer looking at what? titanium, aluminum and such? Enchanted copper brass bronze copper, steel etc can be pricy, again enchantments... Grown crystaline material can be expensive too... "

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah says, "Mostly I work with recycled materials...Aluminum and fiberglass for most, but the windings on the fanjets pretty much have to be copper or a similar conductor if they are electical...and if they are not you will need jet fuel to run the thing and some refractory materials capable of handling the heat of that. It is a trade off between lithium batteries for power and jet fuel. You get longer operation with the jet fuel, but it iseasier to recharge the batteries."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae tilts her head curiously "Ookay, soo what exactly do you want -me- to do? Help you lighten materials? Stick stuff together? Give you a lighter power supply? LIst is endless? Have me build it from the ground up and arrange a payment schedule? What would you like?" Kae asks and grins a bit... "Ya can be blunt."

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah snorts, "Humph, I wonder if I would be better off with a flying cape or something. Can you give me a ballpark figure on building me a flyer that looks about like this that uses electricity to power the flight and control spells. Assume I want to be able to hover and bly at a couple of hundred miles an hour and steer by some kind of thought control...and that it will keep me from falling off. Once I know what I am looking at price wise I can figure out how best to pay it."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae ooh's and nods slowly... "soo question is, you want it to be all included into the item the control stuffs? Or do you want it to be connected into some kind of item requiring both the board and the item to operate?" She asks curiously.

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah says, "A control item, say built into a wrist band or the like, is probably best...if others lack the item they can not steal the flier." No point in buying something fancy only to have it stolen. She has planned to build something into her costume actually."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae nods slowly "I'm going to have to do some research and whatnot, can you send me your idea's suggested specifications so I can set about developing a proper controla apparatus?" She asks curiously.

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah says, "If you have an email, I can send it to you now." The file she has here contains that kind of information, though not the exact technical specs. There was no real point in having those in there anyway, after all it was not working right.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae nods slowly and hands over her business card. She then grins "It shouldn't take too much to make some kind of magical control ability of it, and give you a Hud and whatnot so you can better operate the thing..." she says and grins just a bit... "Just bear in mind, mixing magic and technology isn't easy..."

Sarah Osborn has posed:
"Even technology alone is not easy," acknowledges Sarah, "If it was, I would not be having trouble." She wonders whether she could possibly learn magic, but even if she could it would no doubt take much time.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae tilts her head "Over on the bookshelves is Mordigans Disertation on Technology and Magic, Magic and technology. I suggest you purchase that book, it's like 10 bucks, start reading through it. This will give you a better idea on how best to intigrate what I'll be making into your doodad...>" Kae says and grins a bit...

Sarah Osborn has posed:
"I probably will buy a copy...it sounds interesting," responds Sarah. It will take her less than a day to read, unless it is worse than a college textbook for length and information density. Sarah has an excellent mind.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae grins a bit "It might help you come up with other ideas too... There's a few treatises on enchanting there too, that should give you an idea on what's ahead... mind you those Treatises are about 5 bucks each, there's plenty there.. They're all fairly good reads, but they're hand written in old english."

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sara says, "Perhaps in a bit, unless I need the informtion in them to understand what is in the first text. Sometimes concepts do need to be learned in stages." The craftswoman still has not named a price...though perhaps she needs to do some groundwork before she can.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae grins a bit... "Ballpark figure, depending on what you show me, is this stuff could run a few hundred to a few thousand, pending on what I'm having to do here... I need to know what you need it to do based the stats you give me before I know more." Kae says with a slight smile... "Permanent enchantments aren't easy."

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah says, "I have often wondered if organic or inorganic materials are better for enchanting. I would seem to me that Amber, pearls, and silk would make good echanting materials, as they magic would be able to bond more easily to the living aura of the substances. Still, many of the items described in myth and legend are made primarily of gold and substances like Jade or ruby." OK so she is no mage herself, she has hung around one or two in her time.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae umms "Six in one half a dozen in the other. They're used differently, but you can achieve a lot with inscribed runes into metals and stones and such that you could do say with organic components, like herbs, and animal parts and the like.." She says and shrugs "I use both.. Both have uses in rites and take burden off the mage.. I generaly go with inscribed runes, even invested in a high end CNC and modified the hell out of it magically so it won't go kaboom what with all the magic floating around in here.." Kae then grins a bit "Sometimes technological stuffs don't last too terribly long when exposed to this much arcane energies."

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah snickers, "I have met Harry Dresdan, I know what effect HE has on technology." Of course, it was Goblin-Girl who met Harry, but the point is still valid. She inquires, "So what kind of materials would be best for thgis kind of enchantment? If I can build the platform as something you can enchant, it should save you some trouble. I have heard that enchanting works best on something crafted by hand by the person who is to use it."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae umms "Pends on the mode of enchantment. Some say echantments work best on things crafted by the enchanter. Familiarity and all... However what you are making is not to be like linked directly to you like a ward ring or the like, instead it's to be a self enclosed system... However mass produced won't work, quality of material is the most important thing... Also on something like yours it's best to actually enchant the frame, give everything a thing to work with and around ya know?" she says with a slight grin.. "Anyhow, you need it to be light, it needs to be something I can put runes into. Carbon fiber won't work, neither will fiber glass. I can't use silver or copper to enlay runes into it... I need something like Titanium... Aluminum is kind of ok, but doing the enlay is tricky as Aluminum melts at the same temp as the metals I use to hold the magic."

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah frowns, Titanium will not be easy to get her hands on...aluminum is relatively simple to obtain. She will say, "It may take a bit to get enough titanium. Did you need the entire frame made of titanuim, or only the major support struts?" It will be easier if it is only the support struts.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae umms "You could get steel I guess, I can maybe save you a bit by alchemicly altering the steel to be lighter maybe.... I can get you a list of ingredients to do such." she says and looks over to Tina "Need list of ingredients to alchemicly alter steel to behave more like Titanium or aluminum when referring to weight, We don't want to alter the material." She adds... Tina nods and runs into the back, Kae then glances over to Sarah "That will work?"

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah says "Steel is easy to get, refining it and alloying it depends on what you want to mix it with. Tungsten is very good if you are looking for strength, but like Titanium, it is not cheap."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae umms "I'm not alloying anything..." She says and grins a bit, as Tina brings out the list of ingredients "Get these, you can use mY CNC equipment to make your frame lets get it together and get it runed and alchemicly altered... I can do all of it for about 250 bucks.. I'm not making much but yer gonna help with this, ok? You can pay it off over time... If that helps."

Sarah Osborn has posed:
Sarah says, "I can get up to about a thousand quickly, more than that will tak a few days. If you give me a list of materials and amounts I may be able to get them cheaper. Steel is always an alloy, I was just wondering what kind of alloy is wanted." There are about 1500 common steel alloys with different properties. Some she could find easily...alloys used in cars and construction for instance. Other alloys would be pretty rare.
