Deadwatch has posed:
So... yeah...

Alien Invasion.

Not exactly up Nolan's alleyway. Sure, he spent a bunch of time at waterfront, hiden in the shadows, watching the sporadic battlea across the water but.. meh.. Gotham is a strange place. People were hanging out like it was a tailgate party, watching the invasion as if it were a game or fireworks. Gang members were actually bring coolers of beer and sharing them with /cops/... who had brought a small barbeque.

Yeah.. Gotham. Go figure.

Of course Nolan was seeing the invasion through very different eyes.. mismatched ones that can peice the veil of life and beyond and all that jazz.. So it wasn't just people watching but a whole mob of Ghosts and Spirits watching as well. And when it became pretty clear that nothing was really heading there way? Well..

Nolan rerturned to the old porhibition-era bar he converted into his office and is now kicked back in an old chair near the small emprty stage with a bottle of Jim Beam and an old radio on the table. His braced leg is up on the chair across from him and he lights a smoke with a palm full of dark inky flame before snuffing it out by closing his fingers. The new announcer is recycling news about lulls in the "invasion", warning people to stay indoors (which, of course, one of his fellow gothamites do) and shakes his head.

"Aliens... It had to be fucking aliens.. Can you believe it?" he asks an empty chair at the table... waits for a moment, then shrugs. "How many aliens do you /think/ I've met? One. That Ziggy Stardust chick..." he pauses again, then grins. "I know it irritates her. Thats why I keep calling her that."

Aaaaaand, yes.. Nolan is sorta a jerk.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae has come to visit.. In her hands are a couple large bags, with B B B On the surface and a burger printed complete with wings! Kae grins a bit, looks at the bags and then knocks on the door... She waits there and grins just a bit while holding onto the bags of food... r
Kae glances around and looks across the way, the woman taking a deep breath. She needs to unwind after being one of those that was fighting for the last couple days... And no she's not at all unscathed.. She has a bandage on her forehead, as well one on both of her hands... She waits now at the door, waiting to hear if she's allowed to come in or if someone is going to answer the door... She looks around her self, then winces a it at seeing a flash across the way.

If Kae was feeling ok, she'd be over there currently, however again, one needs to relaxe and gain respite every now and then... She lifts the burger bags, and takes a deep breath, muttering a little magic to keep everything nice and fresh. Before she'd lightly rap on the door again.

Deadwatch has posed:
Nolan Voight is taking a sip of bourbon straight from the bottle.. not because he is bad ass but because he has no clean glasses and abhors liquor in plastic cups. Thats when he feels the presence.. because thats how his curse sorta works. That and he hired a few of the ghosts of a bunch of 1920's and 1890's street kids to watch his door for him. "Wait.. Who is here?" he asks no one in particular, then raises a brow after a moments silence. "Her? How did she know where... " pause... "Oh, right.. I left my card."

He sighs and doesn't move to get up because it's a pain to move his bad leg. He sips the bourbon again and makes a few hand gestures and the strange wards that no one can see, laid in the ghostly world of The Dark, open and in the REAL world the heavey metal door opens.

"If you got food, Come on in!" he says. "If you're solicting, go to hell!"

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae shrugs and opens the door, the woman wandering on inside and holding the bags of food... "Umm, so I was in the neighborhood... Well in Gotham, Gotham General... It's where a lot of folks are getting treated for injuries. Anyhow I got out and since I was kind of in the area, I picked up burgers and thought I'd visit!" she says cheerfuly, the woman wandering nearby and setting the burgers and fries and of course drinks up on a table, and yes, she's gotten a lot...

Kae glances at the bags and rubs the back of her neck "Dunno how it is for you, but well magic makes me hungry and I've been in the thick of the fighting for a couple days now." She says and tilts her head curiously... "I'm glad to see it's not really spilled over here..."

Deadwatch has posed:
Nolan Voight 's "office" is a TEENY bar.. and definately goes back to Prohibition times.. And is pretty stripped down to the basics and augmented with stuff to make it more homey.. looks like he probably lives here too. "Yeah.. I saw the aid stations this side of the bridge.. Even with aliens around it amazes me that people are coming to /Gotham/ to be safe.." he tells her as he takes a puff on his cigarette, shaking his head.

He looks over his shoulder in her direction and spots the bandages, frowning. "You went OUT in that mess? Are you /nuts/?" he asks. "Apparently are are because you look like you got walloped." he rolls his mismatched eyes and mostions to an empty seat. "Come on.. sit down.. get some food in you and take a break... AndI don't need food to fuel my magic, usually. I just like Big belly Burger, is all. First thing I had when I got out of..." he stops.. "Uhm, yeah.. never mind.."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae umms "Well I'm thinking we all pay some price for it. I find I gotta keep my self in good shape and eat... Specially if I'm casting a lot of magic.." Kae says and then opens up the bags, setting out a probably good dozen burgers or so and 4 large orders of fries, and of course a couple big milkshakes... "They're all all the way if that's ok?" She says.. "Half mustard half mayo..."

Kae then grins "Also I was at ground zero when the alien army came out of the boom tubes, it was either fight or die.." She points out and shrugs slowly.... She then holds her hands up... This was from actually casting battle magics through foci to the point I burned two out..." she says and sighs "This things not just taking a tole on me but my wallet too..." She then smirks a bit and tilts her head "Suprised you and your spirits aren't out there gathering up intel." she adds with a mischievious grin.

Yes, Kae's teasing just a bit... "The head bump is what happened when I took a shot from one of those tanks. Wards stopped me from being incinerated, They were burned mostly out with me getting knocked off my feet from the sheer impact and well I went through a window... Will say that's small beans in comparison to what coulda happened."

Deadwatch has posed:
Nolan Voight winces as he sits straighter lowering his braced leg to the floor and reachig for one of the burgers. "There is no magic without a Price." he says, putting a capitol P in it. "But in my case it is not food." he unwraps the burger carefully, as his left hand, like his leg, is bad.. scarred heavilly /almost/ to the point of being twisted but not quite. "And if you are /grinning/ when you were at Gee Zee and almost got wacked by a bunch of extra terrestrial whatever they ares, then you are one cracked chick.." he points out, taking a bite of the burger and chewing.. He moans lowly, almost dirtily, then slumps back a bit. "God thats good.." he says between chews, then swallows.

"And who says I ain't collecting intel?" he asks. "I got spirits coming from all over the place.. not as many Ghosts though.. Ghost are usually more localized. But the thing is, most iof the spirits just don't CARE whats happening. It's outside of their interest. Besides, I work Gotham. I protect me and mine.." So no, he's not a super hero.

HE winces when she explains whow she got the head wound bmp thing and shakes his head.. swallowing another bite of Burger. "See, thats not my kind of magic at all. or my scene. Not that I won't step up if I have to. But I ain;t a warrior. Fuck, I can barely walk three blocks without getting winded most of the time.." he motions to the metal brace on his leg.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae umms "Well dunno if Im a warrior per say, but doing the artificing job requires that I have a very wide array of spells I can infuse into an item and whatnot..." Kae says and shrugs... "I guess that makes me a little bit of one... I just have a lot of things I can do I guess?" she then smirks "Oh and I was hardly smiling when I was getting shot at, more like shreeking and either flying, running, jumping, or gating out of the way... Even went so far as to Apport to dodge some of these parademon thingies... " She opens her self up a burger and takes a bight, sighing as she swallows the first bite...

"Anyway, I ended up zipping around on an enchanted broom with a Mutant on the back of it who could open gateways her self... She was opening them inside their gateways... Ya know what happense when ya pop an extradimensional spell inside another..." She shrugs and takes a handful of french fries now, before chewing a few down. Kae grins broadly now and asks "I take it you've been doing ok then? Other than yer leg bothering you?" she asks curiously.

Deadwatch has posed:
Nolan Voight chews as he listens, trying to be polite.. and actually succeeding. he will nod when is apporpriate, shakes his head qwhen he thinks she is nuts (which is quite a bit) and snort when something amuses him.

Nope, dunno what happens when you open an extra dimensional portal within another.. But i can guess it is bad.." he says as he crumples the burger wrapper and grabs some fries.. which he dips in a milkshake. "I'm not what ya call an academic mage... Hell, I barely call myself a mage. Oh I know magic, yeah. I know a LOT of spells.. But I am hardly what someone would call classically trained. I am more school of hard knocks trained. I know a bit of everything.. even artificing.. But my strengths are more related to Ghosts and Spirits. Thats the source of my gift.." he explains, if not in great detail.

He then looks at his leg, which she mentioned, and shrugs. he pulls up the hem of his pants a little and shows off that his leg looks like it was heavilyy damaged at one point? Heavy scars, flesh maybe melted as bit, or smoothed with old injury.. "My leg always bothers me.." he explains. "I was born this way. Gimped leg. hand.. twisted muuslce and bone.. congenital nerve damage..."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae oooh's and nods "Well sorry to hear that... " she then nods at the training "Oh I'm quite classicly trained. Mother, and sisters are all witches.. Dad's family are wizards and mages, sorcerers if you prefer... My talents lend me toward magic in general and sorcery. I know mom's version of witchcraft and all, but yah, I'm quite classicly trained. Apprenticed, journeman, did some teaching overseas..." She adds and shrugs then grins a bit "Also in my experience, every mage works magic differently to a point... Spells are really just a way to focus that energy which we're familiar with... Some mages can even cast on the fly, weave as you would... I kind of do that.. Though I find I use a lot of poetry to help me focus... It's another cost I guess?" she says and shrugs slowly.

Kae is now finished with her burger, then grabs a second random burger and begins nomming on that as well and raises an eyebrow in the fries in the shake... She shrugs, again shes learned not to question that stuff... She also spreads out her latest wrapper and puts plenty of ketchup on said wrapper before dipping fries in it... "Sooo yer more of a spiritualist then? Practice some Necromantic arts too?

Deadwatch has posed:
Nolan Voight chews on a milkshaped dipped fry, nodding, then swallows before he reaches for the bourbon bottle. The cigarette in the ashtray has long burned out. "Not yer fault, so no need ta be sorry." he tells her. "The only gift I got from my parents, and I ain't sure which one it was since all I know is my mom was.. a worker of the streets if you catch my drift.. was the birth defects and my psychic ability." he taps the temple beside his blue eye.. the other is amber. "I guess thats the source of my magic, as well. I ain't a mutant. They tested me in.. well.. never mind. I got my knowledge on the streets, litterally. They can talk, sorta. My teachers were mainly Ghosts and spirits so I guess you could sort of call me a spiritualist.. though that sounds like hippy nonsense.."

He pours some of the bourbon into his shake and stirs it with the straw. "I /don't/ do necromancy. Ghosts and spirits do not fall into that shit, unless they are being used as fuel."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae oooh's and nods slowly "Soo spiritualism them fo some kind... Though I guess it pends on which school you learn from as to what the definition of Necromancy is... There's soo many leanings and learnings on magic.. It's what makes it kinda fun. The whole Art/science thing ya know?" she says and yes she's about half way through another burger, before she dips more fries into her ketchup and begins nomming...

She glances at the burger and smirks "On a lighter note, ya ever figure out what they do to the burgers to make them soo good at big belly?" She asks curiously... "It's almost like magic or some crazy drug or something they stick in em that makes these things not only taste great but addictive to boot..."

Deadwatch has posed:
Nolan Voight ehs and shrugs. "I like to think of it more as being a Medium, with some ectomantic tendancies.." he says. He sips his fortified (aka boozed) milkshake (which is now, like 100 percent better) and leans back in his chair. "I just think it's sorta insane for people to want to LEARN magic. TO me it's something I was forced to learn because I had no choice.."

He then looks at anothe rburger, and grabs it. "Oh I know exactly what makes the burgers so good. It's not the beef. It's those small dehydrated onions they use.." he tells her. "And, of course, copious amounts of butter that they put IN the meat, as well as coat the grill with."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae laughs and nods "Soo they're wonderfully greasy.." She says and smiles slightly... "Well for some, you use magic or it uses you. Both sides of my family can use it. I either use it or wierd crap starts happening..." she says and shrugs... "Like you say, forced to use it. Still most of my early experiences were pretty good... Like anything I've seen my fair share of bad toward it too, but eh... I think in the right hands it can do more good than bad..." Kae adds and smiles a bit. "Least that's what I try to do ..." She says with a slight smile...

"I'm however running low on healing potions, unguents, salves all that like, what with all the injuries that are cropping up everywhere..." she then rubs the back of her neck "Im going to have to make more rods of destruction here in the next day or so... Just so I can use them and burn em up again..."

Deadwatch has posed:
Nolan Voight sigsh and shakes is head. "Do you understand how rare it is for people who are /born/ with The Gifts t have positive experiences?" he asks, then takes a bite of his burger.. chewing for a moment.. swallowing. "Look, you were /lucky/. Most magically 'gifted' children are /abandoned/ at birth.. Midwives.. doctors.. mothers.. theya re all sensnitivbe to children, teh first two becauise of what they do, and motehrs because they are MOTHERS. They can sense that their children are different. Thats why a LOT of mages are foundlings.. So a LOT of us don't get the benefit of a positive upbringing unless we are one of the EXTREMEMLY lucky few that come from a bloodline that nurtures it.." the more he talks, the more bitter he sounds. "Those of us who don't get that? We end up in the system. Foster children or runaways, abused and exploited. Unlike the 'norms' who seek out magic power, these kids mostly end up junkies, or dead.." he finishes teh burger and sets the wrapper aside.

"Sorry.. It's a touchy subject for me.." he murmurs.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae nods slowly "Honestly? I don't know. My experiences are vastly different than yours." Kae says and shrugs slowly "But, don't get me wrong, I count my self as being very fortunate... " Kae says and grins a bit "I'm never going to complain about my upbringing, aside from my difference with my sisters... But I think that's just a common sisterly thing. I imagine sibling rivalry is quite common.." She adds with a slight grin...

Kae then adds "Anyhow, I've a few girls I'm teaching. I try to make their experiences as good as I can, the twins came up through a foster family, just like you mention. Wendy was lucky in that her mother refused to abandon her... Instead her mother tried to find someone who could help her.. Hence she came to me." Kae adds and shrugs.. "I've been teaching Wendy for like 3 years now."

Deadwatch has posed:
Nolan Voight nods and slowly works his way through his burger... taking heed of what she is saying.. when he is done he crumples up teh seciond wrapper and grabs his fries again. "Look, I do understand that some people have more psoitive experiences than others.. But I also understand that, except for some extraordinary circumstances, most of the ones with 'Good Upbringings' tend to be a bit blind to the rest of the world aroundthem. They see it through rose coloured glasses. I applaud that you are helping these other girls out, but again they represent a very small number of the ones who /get/ help."

he motions to the door. "I grew up on those streets.. Literally. And I can bitch and complain about how terrible it was.. still is. hell, /I/ was terrible. And I paid for it. And thats why I protect these streets. To keep the children, /all/ children, be they normal or magical or mutant.. and believe me, there are a lot fo them.. I do my best to protect them and the other innocents wh don't get a chance. But because of my gifts.. all to often I am finding justice for those who have already passed on.." and for a moment his eyes look.. well.. haunted. "I try to save the living, but too often I end up avenging the dead.."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae nods slowly "Why do ya think I go out there and fight those aliens? Or help the Titans, or work with others at a more street level when I can? I have abilities, a good upbringing and whatnot... I appreciate it. But I also go out and do my level best to help folks when I can." Kae says with a smile "And yah, I am a cheerful happy-go-lucky sort at times.. My defense mechanism is comedy, smart alleckyness and whatnot... " Kae then smirks "Though I have a differing upbringing I have seen some pretty bad stuff. Extradimensional beings, demons, angry elemental spirits, you name it.. I've helped put plenty of the bad sort back. However I've found my calling is in making things for other mages who are better at that kind of thing than I am... So I do just that... I still get out though, unlike a bunch of other artificers who love to stay in their shops and do research..."

Kae grins a bit... "So in other news, Ya had a chance to meet the bat or any of his boy wonders yet? I've found them quite fasinating, if a little on the quiet and well very blunt side." She says and starts on her third birger at this point.

Deadwatch has posed:
Nolan Voight massages the bridge of his nose a moment, sighing. "When you live in the world of magic, I don't doubt that you like the rest of us see a lot of dark and hinky shit..." he says. "But you just said it.. you use a defense mechanism. And for mages and psychics that is very very dangerous.. I won't say I never joke, but you can't hide behind it... Errant thoughts backed by power.. repressed or hidden feelings... these are what spirits and bad mojo are made of..." he tells her..

Then he lowers his hand and grimaces. "And no, I haven't met The Bat or his innappropriate partners in crime fighting. I'm not a vigilante..." LIIIIIES. "I am a detective.. and i deal with magic. I keep as far away as possible from the maniac. And don't go mentioning me to him if you cross paths with your.. superheroy stuff.. I don't advertise what I am except for those in /our/ community... and he isn't part of it. I deal with the shit he missed."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae smiles just a bit "Y'sound a lot like my teacher in London..." She says and grins a bit... "This isn't a bad thing..." Kae is, as far as mages go rather young at just shy of thirty... "I'll get it all figured out." She says cheerfully. She then ooohs "Another thing, yer a detective right? Ya have a somebody else's problem field? Useful for not getting noticed and it's not as overt as invisibility and can block digital detection means..." she says and then holds up a ring... "I made a couple extra of these, was curious if you wanted one..." She asks and grins a bit before sliding the simple circlet with silver runes in it across the table.

"Giving these to those I consider friends... I also use it a lot to keep my self off the public eye and all... Seems to work quite well." She adds and grins just a bit. She's also now on her 4th burger and has started her second jumbo fries... yes the girl could probably win an eating contest or three in one day maybe....

Deadwatch has posed:
Nolan Voight looks at the circlet a moment.. then slowly pushes it back. "I appreciate the offer.. and maybe in the future I would accept it but.. a) I barely know you right now.. b) It would sorta clash.." he pulls up the sleeve on hi bad hand side to show off.. an AMAZING watch.. A 1966 Bulova Snorkel Oceanographer Dive Watch, known in many circles for near perfect timing. And the moment he revealed it a veil dropped and if she has the senses... it is DEFINITELY magical.. Like.. /master/ crafted magical. Not by him, though.. Oh he has added to it but the initial vibe from it is... wow.. As he covers it up it becomes completely invisible to magic senses again.

"And c).." he stares right at her and makes a gesture... and suddenly the bar changes.. It is still the bat but there are PEOPLE there.. A dozen or more, all chatting and laughing and drinking.. the old tarnished colours glow, almost pastel, and there is muted sound... All illusion. "I am pretty good at keeping myself hidden.. or making people see what I want them to see..." So.. an illusionist too.. then again, that usually goes hand in parcel with people who deal with spirits.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae blinks and shrugs, tugging it back "OOokie. I don't blame you for not taking it... I guess, but as far as most mages go, I'm pretty transparent." She says and grins a bit "Another fault of mine I guess..." She then tilts her head and asks curiously "Soo if I may ask... What kinda cases you been workin gon lately?" she asks, now yup, shes going for small talk...

At this point, a tiny construct dragon climbs its way out of Kae's backpack, Fanhuil is now looking muuuch less clockwork and now more realistic than ever, even iff his scales are made of random mixes of nickle and silver... He's even got a few runes down his spine too.. Probably to help him out, and hes moving sooo much more realisticly. Kae motions to Fan "He's about as... evolved' as he's gonna be I guess, He's not become more lifelike in weeks now.." Kae says and grins a bit before rubbing the cat-sized construct under the chin, getting a warble out of the creature... "Oh and if you've not met em, this is Fanhuil..."

Deadwatch has posed:
Nolan Voight smiles apologetically at her. "It doesn't pay to be transparent when magic is involved, just like it isn't good to give someone your true name.." he reminds her. "Besides my psychic gift lends itself to some psychometry.. and mixing psychometry with magic can be a bit of a headache for me and whoemever's artifacts I touch.." he tells her.

He then blinks as the dragon construct and raises a brow. "Uhm.. hello Fanhuil..." he says slowly..
