Hoodlum has posed:
Libraries are endangered in this day and age. More and more people are turning towards digital editions instead of printed word, and even libraries advanced enough to have lend-able digital editions still suffer from something of a pr problem. Many users come to read the paper, because they don't have internet access of their own, or simply because they're in college and need free access to books they can't afford. All valid reasons, but it means attendance is down. And as librarians are fond of quoting: If you don't use them, they WILL go away.

So today, there's a book fair. Out on the steps to the library, one can find cut-rate cheap books due to be pulled out of library circulation, as well as the hottest new authors and even some fancy-pants tablets for reading one's digital editions. There's even one up for raffle! Of course, people are more likely to visit these things if they feel like it's a fun party. Dignity must be maintained, however! Therefore, music is lively classical, and there are even free squares of cheese, punch and...

Well, suffice to say, an impromptu sort of crafts market has set up in front of the library now. Necklaces homemade from crystals, handwoven blankets, crocheted blankets, kitsch of every shape and form. A few harried looking library staff are running around trying to keep things all calm and well-organized, and it is for the most part. But the Library's normal patrons have to pass an unusually chaotic gauntlet to get in to research the latest whosits and whatsits.

Clarine is one such bemused passerby. She stands next to a table with a man explaining his book about bespoke cheesemaking at home. Bewildered, she informs the man,"I... I'm just trying to write an anatomy paper. Why do I need a cheesebook?" She does NOT in fact need a cheesebook.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana was in civilian clothing today. She was wearing a light black leather jacket and a white tanktop beneath it. She had on some dark blue jeans and wedge heeled black leather ankle boots. Black sunglasses on her eyes helped conceal her identity, but the woman stood at over 6'0" tall with the heeled shoes on so she definitely turned heads even if she had the designer sunglasses on.

Diana moved past where Clarine was and she smiled at her. "A book about cheeses?" She said in her Greek accent. "I am unsure why one wouldn't want to buy such a wonderful thing." She was teasing of course, but trying to be personable and fun.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae is at the book fair! The tall redhead neeing a bit of a respite from all the crazyness going on and whatnot. She pauses near a stack of old books, the girl looking them over and smirking a bit when she sees a title on modern alchemy... She raises an eyebrow and picks the book before flipping through it's pages curiously for a moment, before she sets it back and begins to peruse other titles...

Eventually she finds a few old Mercedes Lacky books and she looks them over before stacking a few up and setting them in a basked she has under her arm. Eventually the redhead passes by Diana and Clarine and blinks as she hears mention of cheese.... "Well it would be quite useful to know how to produce various cheeses.. Can you imagine if you wanted a bunch of mozzarella and all and decided just to make your own instead of paying the extravagant prices that good mozza can cost?" She asks curiously, keeping a perfectly straight face.

Ghost Spider has posed:
Gwen Stacy was at the library because it had air-conditioning and free internet access. She had been at it for a while and sadly there were no vending machines inside. So, out to see if she could find something to fill her belly. Yes, cheese and punch will do.

She nibbles on her square of fromage and wanders towards the knot of women chatting about the power of cheese. "What's going on here? Are there games?" she asks.

Vincent Black has posed:
An unmarked black car pulls up against the curb out front and the hazard lights come on before the car is shut off and an unremarkable man with salt and pepper hair steps out and moves to the back. Vincent opens the trunk and digs in the back almost looking swallowed by the trunk before he steps back up and has a milk crate full of books of various thickness, age, and use.

The cop hefts the blue crate and carries it up the steps towards one of the tables and stumbles slightly against the first step but catches himself just fine. He sets the crate of books down on a table and smiles up to the vendor or volunteer.

"Do you accept donations?" Vincent asks, totally aware that his trunk is wide open for the city to go through but isn't too concerned. It /looks/ like a cop car, no one will go near it, usually.

Hoodlum has posed:
When she's distracted, other peoples' memories have a habit of pushing to the forefront. Like now. Hearing that accent, Narkissos the winemaker pushes forward with that language. Greek, the dialect is hundreds of years old, and it's got the weight of ages,"I have a very small bedroom in my mentor's apartment. It's filled with his thinks. I'd feel like I was invading by commandeering any of his own full space for myself. Besides, I need anatomy books, and-" Wait a moment. She looks up, and all-the-sudden, she's in english again, looking at Diana,"I... I've seen you somewhere." Doesn' quite recognize her without the costume? Or is it a former life? She looks to Kaelyn for help, as if this random stranger would know.

Gwen though? She's hopping and waving as she approaches (as if the tall girl needs make herself anymore visible than just standing there, since she towers). Vincent's car gets a few uneasy looks. This is Harlem, after all. Still, the volunteer at the table looks at the book crate, blinks owlishly, and says,"Uuuuuuh..." Eloquent. "I... don't know? Probably? We're sort of trying to... you know... sell books and stuff, but..." The woman picks up a small 'walkie-talkie' and murmurs into it,"Can I get a dolly out here? We have a uh... donation." The voice on the other end crackles to life, an older man,"Seriously? Uh... yeah. Give me, like ten. We have a line at the front desk. Offer whoever a receipt and some cheese." The volunteer looks dead at Vincent and asks,"Do you... uh... like cheese?"

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana would move down a few steps toward a pile of books about southern Europe tourism and she'd pick up one large one that was in great condition. She opened it while listening to the others and a smile present on her red lips.

When the realization taht someone maybe ID'd her came to pass, Diana would look up at them, smile still there. Her right hand would leave the corner of the book she was holding and she'd gently press her pointer finger up to those red lips and she'd whisper out a "Shhhhh." To the person, assuming that that probably wouldn't work, as it very rarely ever did in public... she was used to it, it was okay. "I am just a simple book buyer and collector." She said in a soft voice and a little grin tugging at the corners of her mouth afterward.

Diana's shaded eyes would look over toward the cop as he brought in donations inside a crate. "Oooo, the mystery of newly arrived materials." She said to the cop in good spirits.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae looks at the person talking about chese, then she looks to Clarine curiously as she speaks Greek... It takes Kae a moment to puzzle through things, Greek's not her first language or even her second third or 4th... She did spend tme there and did learn though.

Kae then glances to Diana and nods "I think most people here are book buyers... "She glances at the police officer... "Or a book donator!" she adds with a grin.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent blinks at the volunteer he's looking at and chooses not to dignify any of that with a response and instead lifts his crate of books and shuffles his feet a few times towards the next table over and speaks to that vendor-teer.

"Hi." He begins with a smile for pleasantry sake. "I'm going to give you these books. One hundred percent profit for you." With that Vincent turns to go back to his car when Diana speaks to him. He smirks briefly and motions towards the crate. "Feel free to look and grab what you want before they try and sell it."

"Hey! I'm gonna want my crate back!" Vincent says, looking around at the crowd, lots of tall women, most who seem shaped like goddesses or those that do the vigilantee work. New York. Hmm. He thinks and starts to move back towards his car.

Hoodlum has posed:
Clarine opens her mouth. Probably to blurt out her revelation on who Diana is (or at least who she thinks she is). Then she closes it. Probably if it'd been a year ago, the tall girl would've still shouted 'OH EM GEE IT'S HER' or something like that. Having one's brain leavened by a tide of other peoples' lives, energy, and memories gives you a more long view of things. So she makes a zipping motion near her mouth to show Diana she's not going to say a word about it. Instead, she sighs, and begins pulling bills out of a clip from one of her pockets for the cheesebook and holds it up,"Happy now?" Her smile is warm at least.

A moment later, and she is focusing more directly on Kaelyn,"Well, now that she's said that, we can't miss out on what's going on in that crate. This is going to be a very unproductive day for me. I can already feel it. So, you just browsing?" Time to head over to... THE MYSTERY CRATE.

This volunteer is a lot more receptive to Vincent's rampant generosity. "Oh neat!" The vendor in question finds an old-fashioned pricing gun and just starts stamping things 'five dollars'. They look like five dollar books, right? Well, the vendor thinks so! "Yay! I'm going to be able to afford all those baby dolphin posters now!" These vendors have REALLY specific tastes, it seems. When Vincent calls back about his crate? It means the vendor has to start pulling a ten dollar price tag off of it, looking sheepish.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana would give a little grin and a nod to the zipped-lips motion from Clarine and then set the book back down taht she was holding before moving on to some others while listening to the nice music playing in the backdrop and scanning the other items with her shielded blue eyes.

The somewhat-incognito Princess continued to just shop and browse for items she might want, gathering up a selection of a few small books in simplistic old leather bindings. She'd start a dialogue with the seller to try to determine their price.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent walked back to his car to grab another crate and walks it back over to the second table, his eyes glaring at the original vendor as he goes past and smirks as he sets it down and starts pulling out all the books and setting them down to empty his crate.

"Do you know everyone here?" He asks, assuming the book vendors at the Harlem library might be a tight nit group, or he could be totally wrong. But that's just the hunch he's basing his question on.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae is very curvy and all... Might not be like hugely muscled or anything, but she does fill the curvy attribute quite nicely! Kae tilts her head and looks at the Crate curiously.. Meanwhile Kae's backpack wiggles a bit then a narrow muzzled head with backswept horns pokes out, this being Kae's pet construct... The little creature looks real enough, but hsa an odd mechanical quality to it, could be the fact that its scales litterally appear to be alternating nickle or Brass, not to mention the shimmering quality to the wing membranes and the wing spars appear somehow to be solid nickel yet somehow they move naturally, jointed where they should be. The little creature pulls its self out of Kae's backpack, it's long tail whipping back and forth as it catches sight of a cheese plate, then a chirp comes from it followed by a happy warble...

Kae freezes in place and slowly turns her head to look at the creature "Fan? Yer nuts, I mean it too." she mutters... She then gets a few cheese bits and bites into one as she offers the other to the tiny creature that rests on her shoulder... Meanwhile, Kae goes to check out the mystery crate

Hoodlum has posed:
The woman excited to have Vince's books throws a look at the other vendor,"That's my ex. When we broke up, she took all my dolphin posters. I hate you!" She pulls off a shoe and hucks it at the other vendor. Who picks it up and says,"I'm keeping this!" The answer to this is to look down at her missing shoe, shrug, slip the remaining one off, and place some sandles stuck in her purse on her feet,"I brought sandals anyway!" Dispute over, she looks back at vincent as she begins pricing again,"No. Just that butt-head." She sticks her tongue out at her ex.

Clarine is sort of watching this with a raised eyebrow. "Uuuuuh... huuuuuh." She goes back to digging through the books, speaking up to the officer,"You sure have a lot of boo- Holy crap, what is that?" 'That' is of course Kae's little construct.

As for the leather bound books Diana peruses? The old man places the last one in wrapped paper, murmuring 'for you', for what you do. "No charge." Seems he's got a rosey smile for the princess.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana would glance back at the others as the Cop brought another box over and the 'holy crap' was uttered.

But then the old man spoke to her about giving the books for free and she gave him a big smile, reached up and removed her sunglasses. "You are sweet." She said to him. "But really, I am here to support you, not take your items... I must pay for them, truly." She'd pull a twenty-spot out and offer it over to the man.

"These are for my sister and if she finds out I took them from you without paying, she'll claim that I stole them." A grin was shown then.

Vincent Black has posed:
"Please don't throw shoes at your ex." Vincent says in a deadpan tone of voice as he turns back to his car to fetch a third box of books. Vincent on his way back to the table leans towards Diana and starts to say something, but thinks better of it. The cape is trying to do something on her own, it's not his place to call her out for anything. Despite his feelings.

Vincent does look at the mechanical looking pet and just blinks a few times, choosing to ignore it and sighs as he thunks the heavy crate down with a bit of a loss of breath.

    "There."

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae looks tot he person who calls out holy crap and rubs at the back of her neck, immediately getting nibbled on by the little construct dragon. Kae then glances to her and shrugs "He's my pet? His name's Fanuil...." She says and the little creature now glances at Clarine, his (litterally) amethyst eyes twinling a bit as they open and shut while it stares at her. Then Fanhuil turns his head sideways before warbling.

Kae meanwhile picks up another book that caught her eye, this one a realy old antique book. She turns it upright, looking down its spine and running a hand down it... A turn through the pages and she carefully sets the book in her basket... Sometimes it pays to come to library book sales.

Hoodlum has posed:
The old man smiles gently at Diana,"My wife, she told me, you would change things. And you are. You give so much. You are allowed to take a little." Still, he accepts the money with a dip of his head, gracefully leaving the matter. When Wonder Woman says to take her money, you take her money, darnit!

Meanwhile, a certain hot-blooded young vendor is eyeing her ex as she shoves that shoe into a box. After a moment, she sighs, rolls her eyes and lofts the other shoe TO her. "Take it. It's a really cute pair and it's no good if you just have one." She goes rifling through the third box, saying,"This is super awesome! You restore my faith in humanity. Wait. Pro-skub or anti-skub?" Injecting memes into every day life!

Clarine crouches down next to where the dragon passes time. "Why am I the only person freaking out about this! He's adorable." A pause. "You kinda make me wish I was an engineering student now."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana would smile again when the man accepted her money and she'd nod once to him. "One day at a time. Hope for the best for each of them." She said back to him before turning to glance at all the books that Vincent had now brought to the table...

One in particular catches Diana's eyes, and after slipping the three she'd just purchased into a bag hook on her left elbow by its straps, she reaches out for the book just beneath the top of the crate.

"Excuse me." Diana said back to Vincent, holding the book up toward him now. "But where did you find this?" She asked the man, a look of mild confusion upon Diana's face.

"I believe that this journal belonged to a man I once knew." She elaborated a little further.

Kaelyn Silverleaf has posed:
Kae blinks and looks to the creature riding on her shoulder, then smirks at Clarine. As Clarine gets closer to the dragon riding on her shoulder, the little amethyst-eyed construct chirps and waggles its forelimbs at the college student. Kae then smirks "Regular engineering won't teach you how to make one... He's a construct..." She says and grins just a bit...

Said construct litterally tries to place it's forepaws/hands on Clarine's nose if she were to get close enough.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent's busy over turning the last crate onto the table when his walkie goes off under his jacket and he pauses. and pulls it out from his belt and responds into it. "Unit 12181 is en route." Vince then puts it back on his belt and starts to give the girls and vendors a soft nod as he walks back towards his car and finally shuts his trunk before driving off.
