Cast of Characters: Daredevil, Karen Page, Radiance, 300, Jessica Jones

Daredevil has posed:
The invasion had come and gone and New York had weathered it well. The reconstruction efforts were well under way. Midtown's skyline would recover, though there would be cranes amongst the skyscrapers for the next year and some as some of the buildings were rebuilt. The people, however, had handled it amazingly well. The last five years had seen New Yorkers face the insanity of super heroes, mutants, gods, demons, the undead, and now aliens with monstrous soldiers. Yet through it all the citizens of the greatest city in the world had handled it with aplomb.
So much so that when the first call came out to the NYPD, they didn't know how to take it.
"Sure, kid. A robot. Don't call here about your daddy's roomba, alright?"
It was most likely forgotten over the course of the next few days. But it wasn't until a block party was being thrown, with the neighborhood gathered during the day where the first building had been repaired (with the help of Fisk industries) that things started to seem like they might, just might get back to normal. People were gathered, much drinking was to be had... and even a few local city celebrities were in evidence what with a news van there, the crew getting set to report.
Sure this wasn't the most scenic of locations, just a block and some change from Alias Investigations and the Law Firm of Nelson and Murdock. But it was an easy to close intersection since the traffic in the burrough has been pretty thin of late.
It was there, munching on a hot dog, that Matt Murdock finds himself this afternoon... for once getting away from his desk and the courthouse.

Karen Page has posed:
It's a beautiful day - autumn is taking its time in arriving, and what with things settling down finally, and work swinging back into normal gear, it's business as usual. Made even better by her boss suggesting lunch. Of course, lunch meant hotdog cart, not somewhere where they brought you menus and poured you a glass of water while you decided what to order. Not that Karen Page was complaining. Nice weather. Nice company. Food she didn't pay for. Three big ticket items in her things to do instead of work while the weather was so nice.

Radiance has posed:
A real honest to goodness New York block party! Hermione couldn't be more giddy. She wanders about, trying to look at everything at the same time. The people, the food, the decorations - It's all so awesome!! She stops at a hot dog stand, biting at her lower lip. To have one or not, that is the question. She looks at her phone, seeing how many calories she's still allotted today. "Well... maybe just one. With mustard?"

Sassa (300) has posed:
Ah, the joys of being ageless and superhuman. No calorie counting and no diets. That also means that one can enjoy sidewalk cart vendor foodstuffs with reckless abandon and that is exactly what Sassa is doing, cause like, why not. One, it's a block party and that means there's plenty of potential for things to somehow go horribly wrong and she likes to be in the place before the things go wrong. Two, it's a block party and those are usually fun. So, here she is, stuffing her face full of hotdog number two.

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica arrived via a transport vehicle in the form of a city dump drunk. She stepped out of the passenger seat not too far from where she'd spotted Page and Murdock.

"Thanks, Mac." She said in a casual tone as she closed the door and Mac shouted something back at her.

Jessica had a leather jacket on and her scarf around her neck, she started to walk toward where Matt was with his food and her hands went to her messenger bag.

"Hey." She said when she got close to him. "Got something for you."

Jessica's right gloved hand offered him a folder of images. "Well... its not so much for you... as it is for Danny, or Foggy... I guess. To tell you about it."

It was a folder of a stack of photos. Probably easy to tell by feeling the glossy cardstock they were printed on.

Daredevil has posed:
Settled on a bus stop bench, Matt's got his cane between his legs, one hand resting on its grip as he tilts his head slightly in Karen's direction, still holding his hot dog up partially. "You know, when I was growing up here..." He quirks an eyebrow, "I never really imagined I'd be at a party celebrating the world defeating an alien invasion."
His crimson glasses are turned towards Karen, offering her reflection back to her. "Yet the world keeps on turning..."
As he says this the hot dog vendor grins towards Hermione, "Right, one red hot, extra zest. Comin' up, darlin'." He grabs the tongs off the side of the cart and starts in on prepping her dog for her, getting it set as he accepts the cash and tosses it into the little tool box he uses for his proceeds. After a moment or even two he hands the dog to her and grins, "Want some chips? Somethin' ta drink?" And if she does she'll get it, but if not... "Next!"
Of course that's the moment when Jessica makes her entrance, arriving with such fanfare on the dump truck, though in this burg she doesn't get a second glance really for her choice of conveyance. But when she approaches Matt Murdock he at first won't seem to notice her until he hears her voice. Then he tilts his head slightly and his smile broadens. "Heya, Jessica." He lifts a hand and reaches out, letting her guide the folder into his grip, he'll accept them with a nod.
"Have you met Karen?" There's a pause but then he adds, "Karen Page, it does me the honor to introduce you to Jessica Jones, of Alias Investigations." A tilt of his head, "Probably seen some of her work from time to time."

Karen Page has posed:
Karen smiles as Matt goes on about his childhood. "You wouldn't find something like this back home. We didn't call them block parties - we called them barbecues. And everyone brought a dish with them. I like this, though." She's got herself a hotdog, a rather plain one at that, only adorned with mustard. Her other hand was holding a cola, that she's caught sipping on when Jessica approaches.
When Matt introduces the two woman to one another, Karen is caught, something in both hands, unable to offer a handshake in greeting. She doesn't miss the file folder, though. Nor the mention of Danny. Eyes widening ever so slightly at that, though by the time she's greeting Jessica, she's nothing but welcoming smiles. "I'm fairly certain I've seen a lot of your work. Nice to finally meet one of the hidden faces behind the paperwork I touch all day."

Radiance has posed:
When the hot dog vendor calls her darling, Hermione blushes beet red. She covers her smile with her palm and looks away shyly. She's not used to being flirted with. But when he suddenly drops the flirting to call for the next customer, the niave country girl realized it was all just a bit of banter on his part. She thanks him for the hot dog and backs off, looking for somewhere to sit, hoping no one saw the embarrassing exchange.

She tries her best to take up as little room on the bench that Matt is on, trying not to interupt his conversation as she nibbles on her hot dog. She looks at the party some more, watching the celebration. After all, the conversation really has nothing to do with her.

Sassa (300) has posed:
Sassa, finishes munching on dog number two and seems lost in thought for a while. No doubt the question of to have a third one or not racing through her head, the answer coming as she shakes it no. She stretches out instead and looks for a trash can, which she finds and walks to dump her trash in.

For now, she's content to just walk around, keeping her eyes scaning over the crowd. Always the protector.

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica would nod her head gently at what Matt said and as he introduced her to Karen... Jess' eyes looked over at the woman and she gave her a slight nod after hearing her response. "I think I stole a bag of pretzels from your spot in the kitchen in the office." She said to Karen, adding an unconvincing. "Sorry."

Jess would look back down to Matt. "Its photos of those places you wanted me to snap shots of. Its all the details you'll need... for your case." She would then sigh/exhale and look over at Hermione as she sat down on the bench... tourist-look all over her.

"Where'd you get the food?" Jess asked Hermione, without spending any time on pleasantries. "Haven't eaten in over a day, you guys are killin' me."

When she heard the trash can a little ways to her left she saw Sassa dumping what she was eating and then the hotdog stand... and then the block party?

"Whaaaat the hell is going on here?" She asked, -anyone-, Jessica felt quite uncomfortable in such displays of happiness...

Daredevil has posed:
A few brownstones down the way, the front door opens and down the stoop runs a kid, barely eight years old who darts into the crowd, calling out for his dad, skittering on his way even as the block party continues on. One of the street vendors stops his cart from smacking into the kid by drawing it to a halt and shouting, "Hey watch it!" But kids, being kids, he keeps on running.
When Hermione takes her seat, Matt adjusts his posture a little and pulls his cane a touch closer, trying to give her some room. She'll have a moment where he turns his head to the side, smile warm as he offers a nod, seemingly looking a touch past her shoulder, but then his attention is drawn back towards Karen and Jessica. "We may actually be seeing more of Jessica around the office. If things fall that way. We've got a lot on our plate at the moment."
That child that had called out earlier barrels further into the crowd and then... almost right into Sassa. But he draws up short, eyes wide as he looks up at her. His brow knits, brown hair a crazed mop that could use a good combing. But then he says quickly, with the urgency of the young, "Sorry!" And immediately breaks off into a run again.
But it's Jessica response that gets Matt to smirk a little as he takes the last bite of his own hot dog, crushing the wrapper into a small ball and holding it light in his hand. "Thanks Jess, I'll get to work on getting things prepared soon." That having been said is lip twitches at her discomfort. "It's um, a celebration. Because of the invasion, survival. You know, typical celebration of life thing."
There's a pause then, his nostrils flaring slightly as he asks. "Is... is something burning?"
But that question may very well go unanswered. From where they are it might be hard to see, but Sassa is in just the right place should she glance in the direction from whence the boy came she might well see a glowing square start to appear upon the concrete sidewalk in front of that house. A square that glows hotter and hotter...
Until it explodes outwards, rock fragments rocketing into the air so powerfully that they may only come back to earth to splash down in the East river, their flight chased by a square shaped laser beam that carves not just a square in that cement, but in the top right corner of the building across the street.
The beam abruptly cuts off, and suddenly things are very warm as greenish flames lick out of that hole, growing stronger somehow.

Radiance has posed:
Is the brusque woman talking to her? Hermione looks up when Jessica asks her about the food. Is she serious? The cart is right over there. She points silently to it, hoping that the woman won't get New Yorker offended. The blind man gets a smile and then a pained look crosses over her face. Yes, smile at the man who can't see you. THat's not stupid or anything.

The boy racing around, calling for his father gets her attention. She reaches out to him, trying to grab his arm when he bumps into Sassa. "Hey there, little man. Four eyes are better then two. What you say you tell me what yer daddy looks like and I can help ya find him?" And then there is the explosion. Instinctively, Hermione places her body between the shrapnel and the boy, holding him close as she hopes that her power is working today.

Karen Page has posed:
Karen's eyes widen, lips turning upward in amusement as Jessica informs about the stollen goods. "I wondered where they went. And no, please. Don't apologize. Just replace them." The apology noted for it's insincerity and tossed back with something of a challenge.
She listens closely while the woman explains about the folder; the photos. Happy to remain silent until the question of food comes up. But Jessica is asking Hermione, and Matt is wondering about something burning.
"Nothing burning here," she chides her boss. "Not unless there's a microwave and you're trying to reheat lu--"
The explosion cuts off the rest of her retort.

Sassa (300) has posed:
Eyes on everything, Sassa's first response is to watch the boy as he comes barreling towards her. She shoots him a confused look and spins about as he runs off. She's about to question him, and Hermione for grabbing him when the explosion goes off. She's here, and she's not in her armor and if she shows an open display of power it'll out her, but, damn't lives are in danger.

There's no need for Hermione's powers to go off, Sassa takes the full brunt of blast against her back as she accelerates from a standstill and places herself between Hermione and the boy. She doesn't know Hermione, and doesn't know if she's got power or not, but she's not taking any chances. She's also hoping that she can take enough of the blast, and the debris, as to not let any of the damage hit anyone else.

So much for her clothing though, as it's no designed to withstand things like this...at least, the back part where she takes the damage is going to be singed or torn up.

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica smirked at Karen and gave her a nod. "Yeah, I'll replace them. Don't worry." Jessica definitely wasn't going to replace them.

Jessica would give Matt and look as he spoke but she didn't say much more to him as her mind was on food now and Hermione was pointing her toward it... Jess was tired, she'd been up for 48 hours and she just hadn't really looked around after getting out of the dump truck and walking up to Murdock.

"Well hot damn." She said in a disinetereted tone. "I knew defeating a giant army of aliens would be worth something... cheap hotdogs?"

Jess would be in the process of walking toward the hotdog machine and reaching for her wallet out of her jacket when the explosion would happen, pulling her attention back toward where it had gone off!

So much for food!

Daredevil has posed:
The kid only has time enough to look at her and shake his head before that explosion bursts into life, the shrapnel firing upwards luckily instead of peppering the crowd, but she does shield him from seeing the basement fire that has sprung to life underneath his home, the green flames flickering wildly. A bursting spatter of gravel and dust peppers Sassa even as some of it falls to the ground, coating her in some of the white debris.
From inside the perfectly square hole that is aflame, two large metallic limbs burst out, multi-jointed with a trio of claws on the end of each, /slamming/ down hard upon the edge of the hole and planting enough to pull the oval body of its form up and over the ledge, two more sets of limbs aiding it as it rises up to over ten feet tall, twisted metallic pseudopods extending from various points on its carapace. And then it emits a noise that sounds out loudly, //PING-PING-PAAAANG!//
For those who had been at the battles against the Apokolipsians, they might recognize it as one of the scout vehicles that some of the parademons had used, or perhaps glimpsed it in the photos in the newspapers and on the news broadcasts.
Matt is on his feet, a hand touching Karen's shoulder as he tells her quickly, "We need to get these people out of here." He takes up his cane in one hand and moves to the side quickly...
"Everyone, this way. This way!" He gestures to the side and motions towards one of the strips of sidewalk that aren't blocked off by some of the vendors and games of chance. A quick turn to Jessica, "Jess, can you get the pizza van out of the way?" That one, over there? That's blocking their egress.

Karen Page has posed:
Karen gives Jessica /the look/. But explosion. And people. And Matt declaring they have to get everyone out of the way. Which is ironic in her mind, given he's blind. But she's not, and she's more than capable of raising her voice, echoing his words, "Everyone! This way! Stay calm. Just forget about anything that's not already in your hands and move along.." Her eyes quickly scanning for a place that they can all be safely herded to.

Radiance has posed:
Looking over her shoulder, Hermione smiles at Sassa for getting between herself and the explosion. Ironic. Mind you, it's not like she screams super hero. She looks passed Sassa, seeing the scout vehicle emerging and scoops up the boy. "YOu know what? We'll find yer daddy in a bit. Right now, I think you and I need to get somewhere safe, whaddya say?" She still holds the boy's hand, the skin contact slowly making her stronger, tougher. She starts jogging in the direction that the blind man with the cane points, mostly because he's right. It looks safer then where they are now.

Sassa (300) has posed:
Sassa sighs and smiles warmly at Hermione as she grabs the young one and bolts away, in the safe direction. She on the other hand, does not pay attention to Matt and his pointing of canes. No, that's not who she is and it's already kinda hard to explain taking an explosion to the back and just being mad that you need a new shirt. It was a nice shirt...

Sassa turns about, slowly, to face the vehicle and glares at it for but a second before she gently lifts off the ground with no means of propulsion what so ever. Might as well make herself the first target, if there's any other heavy hitters in the crowd, she can only hope they'll take the hint and join in, if not, it's up to her while the non-heavies protect the civies.

As she floats there a few feet above the ground, rock steady, she yells out to the vehicle, "Hey Laser Lips! Ya momma was a snowblower!"

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica would watch the robot thing come out of the ground, she noted Sassa being damn close to it all too... but, her eyes were locked onto that robot. This is the closest she'd seen one of these 'things' as Jessica had been indisposed during all the major fighting. (She was drunk, shutup. End of the world, what would YOU do? probalby not what she did...)

"Jesus christ." Jessica uttered, but when Karen and Matt's shouting pulled her back into the here-and-now, Jess would just nod toward them as she moved toward the pizza truck that was idling in a bad place. "Look out!" She shouted to the people nearby it.

Jessica pushed her hands up against the side of the truck... she strained... pushed the damn thing right over onto its side, and then started shoving it out of the way.

Daredevil has posed:
Cement and asphalt fragments are crunched underfoot as the thing pulls itself up to its full height, even as the crowd begins to make a break for it, the surge of bodies and the press of humanity creates a wave of motion that brings them forwards, their motions channeled at first by the initial burst of panic, then by the shouting of people as they try to direct them to the best way to beat feet out of here.
The path that Matt and Karen motion towards at first arrests their movement, and then they start in that direction. The young boy looks up at Hermione as she pulls him along and he says with fear shaking his voice, "M-mmy day! I want my daddddy!" His voice trails off, bouncing off the walls even as other people in the crowd scream as well, drowning each other out into an unintelligible wail of despair.
One of the pseudopods swivel around to face Sassa, its apparent answer to her insult is a loud, // PING-PING-PAAAANG! // Then one of the electronic bundles on its back swivels rapidly, clicking into place every few rotations. But then, unceremoniously, that pseudopod begins to glow for a split second before that square beam _lashes_ out straight at the hovering woman, its ire clearly irked.
The hiss of the weapon firing is then joined by the /crash/ of the pizza truck being pushed straight over on its side, clearing the way suddenly for twice as many people to make a break for it. Suddenly the flow of people is faster, people running and running, dashing around a corner, making for their cars even as Sassa faces off with the robot.

Karen Page has posed:
Because she's Karen, and because she really has no clue, she grabs one of the nearest folks, and hands Matt's care over to them. Telling the poor, startled woman, "Make sure he gets there safely with the others," directing them all to move along, move along! The whole while, working her way back towards where they were sitting not moments ago, trying to help get the rest of the people moving to safety.
It's not quite a ship, and she's not the captain.. but she seems determined to go down with it. If only to let those who can deal with the.. sweet mother of god that thing is big and ugly.

Radiance has posed:
"I know you do, kiddo. I know," Hermione tells the boy. "And we'll find him. But first, I gotta keep you safe. Yer daddy won't be too happy with me ifn I let ya get hurt, yanno?" She looks around, here and there and then ducks down the stairs along the side of one of the brownstones that leads to the basement suite. In the covered nook, Hermione hugs the boy tight. "Don't worry. This is just a left over from them aliens from a couple weeks ago. They were dealt with then, they will be dealt with now. And look at me, babblin' again. Seems I do nothin' but babble these days. It's almost like New York makes me nervous or somethin."

Sassa (300) has posed:
These weapons can hurt the uper tier supers, and Sassa is not one of those. However, she got it's attention and she knw what was coming as she did. The weapon hits it's mark, and slams square in to her sending her flying. Though she's not an "upper tier" super, she's still a super. She impacts a building, and is sent flying clean through it and on to the ground behind it, landing in a small crater as she does. The extra debris and damage from her impact no doubt causing more issues.

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica pushed the van over successfully and she helped some of the people get out of the way by just shoving them over some of the fallen debris. She took a step back and looked down at something squishing she was standing on and it was a full fresh pizza that had fallen out of the bag in the back of the truck she'd just tipped over.

"Son of a bitch..." She said, angry to have just completely ruined some free food!

Jess would move to take a play out of Luke's book and she ripped a door off the back of the van and moved to go after this demon-robot-nerd-thing... she'd smash it with the door if she had to get revenge for that dead pizza!

Daredevil has posed:
The older woman looks frantically at Karen, why is this woman stopping her?! But then she sees Matt and he protests quickly, "Karen... I can... Karen!" But she's already off and he's cursing to himself even as he reaches out with one hand as he grabs a man who is rushing past. Without looking at him he says, "Don't go down that alley it's a dead end, follow us." And quickly they move with the rest of the crowd.
Meanwhile, the child is wailing, hollaring as if the world were ending. But no longer in words, just sounds of desperation and fear even as he instinctively clings to Hermione as if she were the last life preserver on the Titanic. Yet down there, in the stairwell that leads to the basement of that brownstone, she at least has cover and is fairly far away from the scout vehicle.
Then that beam connects with Sassa, sending her flying. To the alien vessel it almost immediately seems to forget about her as it begins to lurch forwards, three jolting steps that cause potholes in the asphalt, its stride awkward and off balance. Its sensors continue to swivel back and forth and the it lifts what passes for its 'head' upwards as that sound triggers again. // PING-PING-PAAANG! //
Yet even as Jess begins to make her way back through the waves of fleeing humanity, the machine starts to tromp and stomp in her direction, its limbs splaying as it moves like some insect that had imbibed entirely too much vodka. It's only once she gets past the crowd, toting that door that one of the creature's sensor limbs swing towards her.

Karen Page has posed:
Karen hears. Of course she hears. She just choses to ignore her boss. He can what? Find his own way? Pffft. There's a crowd of frightened people. That's just a recipe for disaster. He needs a helping hand. And the crowd here needs some crowd control. Especially with that.. dear gods.. why did it have to be so damned big and what the hell was it doing anyway? ... that thing running amok and seemingly intent upon pew-pewing everyone in sight. And once she's out of hearing range, she's too busy with moving people along and dodging trouble to give the matter a second thought. Even if she does mentally chastize herself for what is undoubtedly a stupid move on her part. Heading *back* towards the robot. What was she thinking?!?

Radiance has posed:
Holding the panicked and frightened child in her arms, she rocks back and forth while she coos and makes soft soothing sounds. "It'll be okay. You know what? I bet that man in red shows up. Ain't this were that guy is always showin' up and savin' the day?" She doesn't know how else to calm the child, so does something her nan used to do with her and starts to sing a lullaby, rubbing the child's back. "Mellow, the moonlight, to shine is beginning/Close by the window, the young Eileen is spinning." Yes, she is grasping at straws here, but what else can she do? Some super hero she turned out to be. She can't even use her powers half the time!

Jessica Jones has posed:
Jessica just charged at the damn thing. Door up, head down and teeth gritted, the woman ran at her full speed right into the Parademon nerdbot and she slammed into it with a metal-on-metal clang/crash that would resonate throughout the whole neighborhood!

A second later and the demon-bot was planted right up against the side of a redbrick wall and its arms were flailing and slamming into the door, trying to get around it at Jessica! She hunkered up close to the door... she may be super strong but she can still get damaged pretty easily by sharp spindly pokin'-spikes!

"Little help!?" Jessica called out to anyone nearby, assuming Matt (In his dorky costume) would here any second, right?!

Sassa (300) has posed:
Sassa's not out of the fight, not by a long shot. She's actually back in the fight with a quickness that has her stopping right next to Jessica and smashing the ever loving beejebus out of this thing with a rather angry looking uppercut.

Daredevil has posed:
As Karen moves towards the danger, the danger seems inclined to move towards her. The great metal legs stomping forwards, one /smashing/ through the windshield of an old VW, causing the vehicle's axle to twist up on itself even as the vehicle tries to step forwards, unable to disentangle from the vehicle... it begins to drag it forwards, sparks flaring from the places on the asphalt where the car frame scrapes across.
But down there in that cubby hole beside the stairs of that brownstone, the young boy looks up with wide eyes, seeking Hermione's gaze even as he sniiiiifles and wipes at his runny nose... her song and attention helping to distract him. Even when that alien's leg starts to drag across steel, causing it to squeal madly.
When suddenly... seemingly having dismissed Jessica's approach, the robot is upended onto its side by the heavy impact of the Alias Investigator, her shoulder slamming the car door into the side of the robot, causing it to smash into that brick wall, its long limbs clattering and writhing as it somehow sought to grasp her with its triplicate claws extending outwards and snapping shut...
But then as if summoned by the PI's words, Sassa slashes through the air, darting straight into position and then laying one on the already damaged monstrosity. It squeals an electronic medley that sounds almost animal-like as its front portion cracks open, exposing the curious components and strange alien liquids that powers the device... another punch /smashes/ it to pieces and renders it inert...
And then, now inanimate, the robot vehicle hits the ground with a clatter, all life having fled. The two heroines might have a moment to take a breath, to realize that the crowd is still fleeing, that they are for the most part alone save for a handful of people...
And the one guy who is apparently filming them with his cellphone.
