Date of Scene: 13 October 2017

Synopsis: Family reunions almost always have surprise moments.
Cast of Characters: Shadowcat, Cyclops

Shadowcat has posed:
It's early, but Kitty's already been up to do a workout and she's put coffee on. So now, sitting at the counter in the kitchen with a mug of the freshly brewed coffee typing away at her laptop, her hair pulled up in a ponytail and dressed in her running gear... it's home. She finally feels like it's home again. Her dark eyes flicker toward the doorway when she hears footsteps, waiting to see who comes in.

Cyclops has posed:
Gentle steps to the kitchen, before hand runs through his hair. Scott was a morning person, but he did enjoy the morning cup of coffee. Of course he was usually the first one to put the coffee on. It was a pleasant suprise to see a fresh pot right there ready for him. "Oh...good morning." He offers to Kitty, grabbing a cup and starting to pour.

Shadowcat has posed:
She smiles at the sight of him. Mornings are when the people come out -- not the team-leader Scott but just 'Scott.' "Morning," she replies. Closing her laptop to put both her eyes on him, Kitty tilts her head. The three years at college have given her a much calmer demeanor than the girl who first came here to be on his team. He always somewhat intimidated her, but the sense of her now has none of that hesitance. "Good meeting last night?" she offers, though... well, you know how meetings go around here. Always a bit chaotic. "I apologize for slipping out on you before it really got going."

Cyclops has posed:
"Apart from the others thinking my idea of a team name 'sucks monkey balls'" With air quotes. "It went as expected." Scott drinks the cup, black, to try first, then adding just a little sugar. The mug is held in his hands, warming up. "Your were around for your part, which was fine."

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty covers her grin with a sip of coffee from the mug in front of her. "Well," she observes... "no accounting for taste, right? It's hard to name a team. I mean, especially if you're trying to run with a theme and using an X." When she sets the cup down, her amusement is still visible. "It's nice to see that you've relaxed just a little bit."

Cyclops has posed:
"Then the students started getting snarky, some of the X-Men weren't having it." Scott takes another sip, right before his slight mellowing was mentioned. "That's the morning talking, once this coffee is in my stomach, I'll be the one you know." A joke? Perhaps, or perhaps not. "So, how are you adjusting back to things?"

Shadowcat has posed:
It makes her laugh, though -- a surprised sort of giggle. He really has lightened up! "Okay, I think." Kitty considers the question and the circumstances. "Yes," she decides with a nod. "I think I'm doing okay. It's a little disconcerting -- coming back here feels sort of like stepping back in time, so being here and doing things like having a job rather than being a student is an adjustment." She sips her coffee. "Honestly, it was something I figured I better talk to you and Jean about anyway... I don't really have a job HERE except on the team. And I'm not exactly going to be teaching -- at least that I'm aware, although I'm happy to help if you want. Is it ... okay for me to keep living here? I mean... is it ... I don't know if I should be looking for an apartment, Scott," she admits with a chuckle. "I don't know how to be the *adult* here. It was easy in England, but the role shift here has me off balance."

Cyclops has posed:
"Do you want to stay here?" Looking to Kitty from behind his glasses. She would know exactly that his eyes are looking at hers, even with the lenses obscuring them.

"That is up to you. Some of us live off campus, some of us live here. You'll have to speak with the Professor if you'd like to have a position here."

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty is quiet for a long moment, well aware that behind his glasses Scott's eyesight is sharp. The mind behind it moreso. She doesn't flinch from his regard. "The mansion isn't the only home I've ever known," he knows that, obviously, "but it's the place my heart lives." Her tone is quiet. "I'd like to stay, at least for a while -- the invasion has made me a little ... unnerved to be too far away," she admits. And then she smiles. "But I can pay my way -- I have a job offer from STAR Labs. The internship last summer apparently impressed them. It's a remote position, though, so I can stay here in Westchester and work with the team. Assuming you want me back." The last is a mostly teasing, although there's perhaps just a tiny hint of the insecure there.

Cyclops has posed:
"You can stay as long as you'd like." Scott offers, taking a sip. "As the Professor always says, we will always have a home here." It was true, even former adversaries have found themselves welcome here, it was a level of tolerance that Charles was known for. "An offer at STAR labs? That's quite impressive."

Shadowcat has posed:
There's a bit of a blush, and Kitty nods. "It's really cool -- a lot of research, I think. I'm supposed to meet the people who head up the project teams that I'll work with this week, I think. I'm looking forward to it." There's a long pause, and Kitty admits to him, "But I'm *really* glad to be home. I missed everyone. A lot." She grins cheekily at him. "Even you."

Cyclops has posed:
A healthy sip of the coffee before he continues. His glasses glean in the light. "I'm shocked. Someone actually missed me." He quips, looking to the young woman.

Shadowcat has posed:
"Ffffft." Kitty grins at him and slides off her stool. She picks up her laptop and winks at him. "Who else would kick me in the butt when I needed it and let me pick on them about being a stick-in-the-mud while still making sure that I passed all my classes and came home safe and sound?" The tone is teasing but the sentiment behind it is very clear. "You're best big brother around -- you looked out for me all through my teenage life. Of course I missed you, Scott. You're my family." And she slips out of the room before all that mushy stuff can make him too uncomfortable.

Cyclops has posed:
In that moment, Scott had taken a step back. He hadn't really heard that from one of the younger students before. But the reaction to it had him a bit caught off guard. "Well, thanks Kitty." He says, mildly sheepishly, hiding his mouth behind the tipping mug.
