Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Miss Martian, Shadowcat

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan is up, even if she'd rather not be. The redhead had trouble sleeping last night. As such, her expression is pretty bleary, as she idly pokes at a bowl of cereal with a spoon as if it's somehow going to reveal the secrets of the universe. Or maybe just wake her up.

Shadowcat has posed:
The slender brunette who enters the kitchen appears far more perky and awake than the student hovering over the bowl of cereal. Kitty has already been up, done an hour of martial arts, and showered. Her hair is caught back in a ponytail and she's carrying her laptop, which she sets on the countertop near the coffeepot before she realizes there's someone lurking right there.

"OH! Morning," she greets cheerfully. "You look like you could use some coffee." She automatically starts making a fresh pot while she talks. "I'm Kitty." She doesn't know hardly any of the students, so seeing new faces is normal to her.

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan looks over at Kitty as if she's a member of the alien species Morningus Personicus. "Coffee sounds...kind of wonderful." She starts to yawn and catches herself. "I'm Megan." Pause. "I've never met anyone named Kitty before. After a cat?" she asks.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty laughs. "Just short for Katherine -- my mom hated Kathy as a nickname, and something about when I laughed as an infant, it sounded like purring in my throat?" She shrugs. "It just kinda stuck." She doesn't sound like it bothers her; more or less, she just has that sound of amusement that means rolling her eyes at her mother. As she makes coffee, she glances over. "Good to meet you, Megan. I'm assuming you're a student?"

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan nods. "Yeah, new one. I mean, junior, but new /here/." She tries to explain. She also considers, then nods. "Kitty fits you better than Katherine, I think. I mean, just an opinion." She takes another bite of cereal. "Have you been here a while?"

Shadowcat has posed:
With the coffee now starting to run through the pot, Kitty leans on the counter to chat easily. "Graduated here a couple years ago," she replies. She doesn't look like she's out of her teens as yet, but she says, "Just got home from college graduation, actually. Moved back in because..." She shrugs. "It's home." As simple and as complicated as that can be at times. "At least until I'm on my feet with a real job." A grin slips across her face. "But it's really cool -- I can work from home and just go in to the office sometimes."

Miss Martian has posed:
That gets a look of surprise from Megan. "Wow! You totally don't look old enough to be a graduate. That's pretty cool, though!" She tilts her head. "Does your power have something to do with reduced aging or something? Cause that would be awesome."

Shadowcat has posed:
Shaking her head, Kitty just shrugs. "Nah... just too stupid smart for my own good," she admits, a bit of a blush coloring her cheeks. "I'm 19. My powers don't really have anything to do with anything... except when I short things out." She rolls her eyes. "Like everyone else, I'm still learning new things about those every day."

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan grins. "I don't think "stupid" and "smart" belong together like that. But that's cool too. So what do you wanna do now that you've graduated?" The conversation is clearly waking the redhead up some.

Shadowcat has posed:
The scent of coffee is permeating the room, and Kitty heads for the fridge to get out creamer. She sets it and sugar next to a couple of cups on the counter between them, and she grins at Megan. "I'm doing computer stuff with STAR Labs. A ... friend set up the job after I interned there last summer." As she pours some of the newly brewed coffee into cups, she asks, "You said you have a couple years left. Any ideas what you'd like to do?"

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan considers. "Mmm...not really? I'm still trying to get a feel for things, and options. All this is kind of new to me." She reaches out to take one of the poured cups. "Thank you for the coffee."

Shadowcat has posed:
She puts the pot back on the machine to finish filling and doctors her own cup liberally. "Anytime," Kitty replies with a smile. "There's almost always a pot going in here -- if not, anyone is allowed to make one. Caffeine is a necessity in this place, and I'm pretty sure some people mainline the stuff." She sips her own and nods slightly. "Are you settling in okay? I know it can be really hard to adjust." There's a small pause. "Did you have a stable place before you came here?" Because the obvious mutants have a LOT harder time out there.

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan replies "I'm trying to get a hang on it. But I'm new to...well, pretty much everything. Stability hasn't been a big thing for me. I mean, I'd love to have it. But...yeah."

Shadowcat has posed:
"This place can be good for that kind of thing," Kitty tells her. "Especially when you're first learning a new ability. I came here when I was 13." She looks around the kitchen. "I can't ... even really imagine being anywhere else now." She smiles at Megan. "Is there anything I can do to make your settling in easier?"

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan laughs a little. "I doubt you wanna play "guide to the teenage experience" for another student." She takes another sip of the coffee. "I'm game for any tips you've got, but I wouldn't impose on anyone more than that."

Shadowcat has posed:
"Fffft," Kitty dismisses. "Hey, look -- if you need to ask things, seriously... feel free. I might not be the most normal teenager around. Heck, are any of us? 'Normal' has a whole different definition around here. But I will absolutely help any way I can," she promises. "The only real tips I can offer are the same ones you'd get anywhere. Learn your powers so you don't hurt other people accidentally. And if you need help with anything at all, ASK. It's what we're here for. All of us."

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan looks a little embarassed. "So far, I've been running head long into messing social things up with people." She admits. "I don't seem to have a really good read on that yet. There was a big argument with some of the teachers the other night, and I wasn't sure what to do."

Shadowcat has posed:
Tilting her head, Kitty looks a little concerned. /An argument with the teachers?/ She'll have to ask around a bit. "If that lot are going at it, best to just lay low and let them have at it. They've been together a long time... they'll sort it out," she assures Megan with a small smile. "Some of us have bigger tempers than the others, but we're family. We've had a few times when that means someone gets hurled into the pool or through a wall, but it always works out."

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan nods. "I made friends with a lady here at school. And then it turned out that one of the teachers didn't like her, and then they were going to fight, and then I tried to stop them from fighting, and then the teacher got mad at me..." Words fall out quickly now that she has someone to listen. "And I just feel like I'm messing up all the time."

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty's expression is sympathetic. She comes around the counter and sits on the stool next to Megan with her coffee. "Hey... listen. I don't know who you made friends with, but... there are a lot of people that we have history with. Not all of it good. Just because that's the case doesn't negate the fact that this person was good to you." She shrugs. "It can get really complicated around here -- sometimes the line between heroes and villains is a little blurry."

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan looks over. "Her name's Grace. Or I thought her name was Grace. The teacher called her Emma." Yeah, Megan's hip deep in THAT mess. "It's just a lot of...ugh!" She says, exasperatedly. "You're the first non-student I've met here who actually /cares/. Or at least feels like they do."

Shadowcat has posed:
Oh dear. Emma. Kitty sighs quietly. And then she smiles for Megan. "Yeah.... things with Emma are definitely complicated." She shrugs. "I know she's been good to James Proudstar." At least in some ways. "And although her methods are different than ours... I know she really believes that she's helping teenagers, just like we do." There.... that was diplomatic, right?? "I'm sorry you got caught in the conflict there. When you're new to all this, that can be really confusing and stressful. Just... let them work it out for themselves, okay? YOu can't fix everyone else's experiences, right? Just trust your own, I guess." She touches Megan's arm. "Everyone around here has a story. That one is probably more convoluted than you want to be bothered to know."

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan smiles, and looks over to Kitty and the touch on her arm. "You should be a teacher." she suggests. "You're a lot better than a lot of the people here at it." She's a little bit bitter, given the experiences she's had so far.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty blushes and ducks her head a little. "I ... wouldn't know how to be a teacher. Not really. I mean... I guess I could teach computers. And help with combat tactics or whatever. I already do that part sometimes." She shrugs and grins. "But I'm not really that much older than any of the kids here. Seems weird to be the boss of anyone, you know?"

Miss Martian has posed:
"Yeah. But..." Megan frowns, trying to find the words. "You're the first person here who hasn't seemed like they were just so caught up in all their own stuff that they didn't have time for us. Like we were a burden."

Shadowcat has posed:
With a blink, Kitty looks.... sad. "I'm so sorry. That's awful." And she wonders if the other students feel the same way. Biting her lip, she says, "I'll see what I can do about helping change at least that much, okay? Because... that's not how it's supposed to be."

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan smiles. "That's be awesome. YOU'RE pretty awesome." she tells the older girl. "Is there anything I can do for /you/? I mean, since you've been so nice and all."

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty's shrug is easy. "Nah... Things for me are working out all kinds of nicely. A good job, a new trainer for some of my powers, a guy..." She blushes vividly and rolls her eyes, laughing. "I think right now, I kinda have it made." For the first time in her life, really.

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan smiles. "That's cool. Well, if you want to go flying or something sometimes, just let me know." She finishes the last of the coffee. "And I'm actually awake now!"

Shadowcat has posed:
Air-toasting her with the coffee cup, Kitty smiles. "Good! Now you can definitely do school stuff!" She winks. "I will keep in mind the flying. And seriously... Megan, if you need anything, let me know, okay?"

Miss Martian has posed:
Megan smiles brightly. "Thanks, Kitty. I will. You're awesome!" And with that, the redhead will get up, put her coffee cup in the dishwasher, and head out of the kitchen, on her way to face the day.
