Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Radiance, Zhao Lin

Radiance has posed:
Dressed for work, Hermione headed out the door and started making her way to the subway station. Sure, she could fly to work and it would be so much faster, but she didn't want to bring too much attention to herself. It was bad enough that she had her glow on. Sure, in daylight it's not so noticable, but with winter approaching and the weather turning grey, her glow is becoming more noticable, even in the daytime.

She walks down the street, her heels making soft clicking noises on the pavement. She walks slower then she would out of the heels, still getting used to corporate chic. She's noticed some of the women wearing cross trainers on the walk to work and them changing them when they get there. She makes a note to remember that for next time to save herself having to walk in these torture devices that give her a little more wiggle then she usually likes to display.

Zhao Lin has posed:
Zhao Lin does things a little differently, seeing as how 'not drawing attention' is a little difficult for him. Covered in fur, with a tail and feline features, it's fairly impossible that most people wouldn't at least take a glance at him. It's been a couple of days since he's been in Hell's Kitchen, and there have been rumors going around about a SHIELD operation that resulted in five dead, with witnesses placing a man who looks like a snow leopard at the scene. Still, maybe he's some other guy who looks like a snow leopard?

Even with winter beginning to settle in, Zhao Lin is barefoot. He walks down the street in the direction opposite of Hermione, his pacing a little more... unsteady. In fact, he seems like he's been drinking, and even as he walks he's lifting his gourd canteen to his mouth, stumbling a bit as he leans his head back to drink.

It just so happens that, in doing so, he bumps into Hermione, knocking her to the ground! "Ah, excuse me, please," he says, his voice heavily accented by his Chinese heritage. He offers her a friendly smile. "Are you okay? I did not mean to knock you down." He offers her a hand, to help her back to her feet.

Radiance has posed:
Hermione blames the heels. It has to be. Since she got her powers, she's basically a brick .... house. If she doesn't want to be knocked down, she isn't going to be. But she's still trying to learn how to balance herself in heels as it is. She looks up at the man that pushed her down, frowning at first, but starts to smile when she sees how genuinely apologetic he is. She takes his hand and lets him help her up. "It's quite alright. Accidents happen. You must not be from around here though, cause a New Yorker would have just blamed me for not watching where I was walkin."

Min tries looking behind her to see if her skirt is ruined. She turns her back to the furry man. "Did I get anything on me," she asks, once again brushing the skirt. She then turns back around and looks the gentleman over and smiles. "Are *you* alright?" she asks then. "Would you like a cup of coffee?" Yes, let's try and sober up the drunk man.

While the two talk, across the street, three men notice the pair from inside the noodle shop they are in. They speak to each other in cantonese, muttering curses under their breath.

Zhao Lin has posed:
After helping her to her feet, Zhao Lin smiles again. "I would be happy to," he says, "On me, ah, apology for knocking down." He grins a little, a brief flash of large canines and other sharp teeth. He does his best not to make it look menacing, since it's easy to make that mistake. He does take a moment to look her over - for damage to her clothing, of course. "No, no, nothing bad," he says, swaying a little as he stands beside her. Whether he's noticed the men looking their way or not - or the fact that they've gotten up and begun exiting the shop - is indescernable.

Zhao Lin does nod his head though. "I am Zhao Lin, I come from China," he tells her, "Still very new to the city." He pauses a moment, looking around him now, as though searching for a direction. "Ah, coffee, this way," he says, gesturing the direction she had been walking originally. "What is your name?" he asks her once they start walking, "Are you new here also?" What better target for the three than a drunken man and a woman who doesn't look like she could run a meter in those heels?

Radiance has posed:
"No no, the coffee is on me. I insist. You aren't even wearin' shoes! Are you cold? Hungry?" She gets a look of concern on her face as she and Zhao start making their way to the coffee stand on the corner by the subway entrance. The smile on Zhao's face does indeed look a little more on the menacing side then the friendly one, but having grown up on a farm, Hermione is used to animals and doesn't seem too bothered by it.

The three men follow, one on his cellphone to alert his superiors. The plan? Well, that's simple. Kill him. They cross the street to get closer, a knife being drawn.

Hermione starts to flush a little when asked about her name. "Just call me Min, or Minnie," she says. She's not taking the chance that this guy hasn't read any of that dreaded series from which she is named. I moved here in the beginning of September. Still getting used to everything. Just got a job with Stark Industries."

Zhao Lin has posed:
The leopardine man chuckles, shaking his head as he turns to walk with her. "Oh, no, I am fine," he says, "Fur keeps me warm, very good for winter." Zhao Lin glances over his shoulder as he speaks, aware now that they are being followed. He smiles again to Hermione though, his behavior not changing in the least. "It is nice to meet you, Minnie," he says, "I have heard of Stark, they have done good things of late."

Zhao Lin orders his coffee black, not wanting anything special in it. Though, once he has it, he tips a little of the clear liquid from his canteen into the cup before taking a sip. As soon as Hermione has her coffee, he puts his arm around her waist, and turns towards the subway entrance. There are few people down there in this part of town, at this time of day, and it would be better if what's about to happen doesn't happen on the street out in the open. He leans and whispers to her as they start walking, "We are being followed."

Radiance has posed:
Well, fur keeping one warm does make sense. Still, Hermione keeps this man in mind for one of her scarf and sock bundles. She smiles at the talk of Stark, nodding her head. "Yes, he's really turned the company's direction around from it's start as a weaponry specialist. And the benefits are wonderful! There is a gym inside the tower, plenty of good food trucks nearby, medical and dental and life insurance. He treats his employees very well." And the fact that she's his apprentice doesn't hurt.

She orders her coffee with two cream and three sugars, liking her coffee about as sweet as she is herself. "No cream for the kitty?" she asks with a teasing smile. "Sorry, I shouldn't hold you to the stereotype. That wasn't very polite of me." She stirs at her coffee, taking a sip and then squeaks when Zhao slips his hand about her waist. She's about to tell him off when he tells her that they are being followed. She frowns and her nose crinkles. "Again? Oh, this is getting ridiculous!"

The trio, knives at the ready though kept discreetly at their sides for now, start to close the distance. Hot on the heels of the pair as they head down into the subway station, they decide to just kill the girl too to get rid of the witness.

Zhao Lin has posed:
Zhao Lin seems to let her teasing slide in the face of the more immediate threat, and he continues into the subway with her, allowing the men to follow. "I am thinking I should head back to China if this is going to become a common occurance," he says, mostly to himself, but it's still loud enough for Hermione to hear him. He drops his arm from around her as soon as they're clear of witnesses, and he makes a wide, stumbling turn about to face the three men following them. He takes a drink, a big one, from his gourd, nevermind that he's still holding a cup of coffee in his other hand.

He lowers the canteen with an "aah" and wipes his mouth with the back of his hand. He takes a stumbling step or two towards the three men. "Oh, hello!" he greets them jovially, a big, broad smile on his face, "I did not realize the circus was in town. I..." He pauses, twisting half about to face Hermione again, looking perplexed. "Wait, circuses do not perform in subways, do they?" He frowns, looking at the three men, who are now much closer. He offers them a big smile again, swaying in place drunkenly. "You must be a boy band then. I thought those went out of style." And then he throws his hot coffee in the first thug's face.

Radiance has posed:
Down in the subway, the fact that Hermione has a glow about her is more obvious. Yes, there is definitely light eminating from the young woman. She frowns, not happy that this is going to be the third time in the last month that someone has tried to mug her. "That's it. Enough is enough," she mutters to herself.

She looks a little shocked that Zhao's response to being followed is to get more drunk. It would seem it's up to her. Slowly, she rises into the air, her shoes falling to the floor. Her hands ball into fists, her stance at the ready.

"No, no circusses in the subway," the petite woman says as she hovers a couple feet off the floor. She then looks to the three men. "I will give you this oppertunity to change your course of action," she tells them, her voice stern as she tries to make herself sound like her mentors. They say something about her in a language she doesn't understand, but it doesn't sound like flattery. She is about to say something in response when the coffee flies in the face of one of the three.

There is a scream and then the other two start to lunge at the pair. One at Zhao and one at the flying girl.

Zhao Lin has posed:
Zhao Lin isn't exactly shocked that Hermione is floating and glowing amber. He's met several more mutants since he arrived in New York, each with a different array of powers. His own were less impressive, in a sense, but he makes up for it in his own way. When the man lunges at him, Zhao Lin doesn't seem to notice, twisting and stumbling out of the way of the attack by perhaps mere inches, slipping right by the thug! Once behind him, Zhao Lin suddenly twists about on the balls of his feet, his drunken stance actually being a powerfully rooted one positioned backwards. The turn adds momentum, and both of Zhao Lin's fists thrust forwards, striking the man in the chest and ribs when he turns to face the leopard. "Yah!" With the shout comes the impact, a powerful thud that sends the thug flying backwards several feet. The drunken boxer stays in that pose for a moment, his body suddenly rock solid and steady, like a statue, feet planted on the ground and hands held as though he were holding a pair of small cups.

Radiance has posed:
Hermione doesn't know much about martial arts. Back home in Valentine, Nebraska, the fighting style tended more towards good old fashioned boxing. And so, from her inexperienced views, Zhao looks like he's just lucky rather then skilled. It would seem it is going to be up to her. She backs up in the air as the man lunges at her. "I really don't want to hurt you," she tells him. He swipes at her leg, slicing her hose along her shin but making no mark on her skin from the cut. She looks down at her hose and then at her attacker angrily. "Hey! I have to go to work!" Now she has to go home and get changed and then fly to work to still get there on time. Darn it.

A little put out now, Hermione swings at her attacker. She doesn't have a lot of skill in the ways of fighting but when you hit like a Mack truck, you don't need a lot of skill. Her fist only hits the man's shoulder and he goes flying.

Zhao Lin has posed:
Zhao Lin, on the other hand, knows a -lot- about martial arts, and he's faring quite well! In fact, both of them are a little overpowered for their current opponents. Zhao Lin twists and tumbles about, sweeping the man's legs out from under him, before rolling into a summersault that drops the same leg down onto the thug's stomach hard, knocking the wind out of him. He hasn't forgotten about the guy he threw coffee in the face of, either, though! As he's getting to his feet and wiping the coffee from his eyes, Zhao Lin abandons his winded opponent to run over and, in a move straight out of the Three Stooges, pokes him in the eyes with his index and pinky fingers! Then, a good horse stance later, delivers a powerful kick to his stomach that sends the thug flying backwards, right into the one Hermione knocked away!

Radiance has posed:
Lowering herself to the ground when the last of the three men is knocked to the ground. She takes Zhao by the hand and pulls him deeper into the subway station as she grabs her phone. "Jarvis? Can you call the cops and tell them there are three men of oriental ethicity passed out and that they attacked people on the subway?" The posh British voice from her phone tells her he will do so immediately.

The sound of the approaching train can be heard. "I know I should stay for the cops, but I don't want to be late for work. I'll have to ask my boss about how I'm supposed to do things next time. I'm still a little new at this." She takes her hand off of Zhao and frowns. "You could have gotten yourself killed. Drinking while fighting? Are you insane?"

Zhao Lin has posed:
Zhao Lin lets out a "huh?" when she grabs him and tugs him further into the subway station, but he follows after her. Her concern causes him to laugh, though, rather boisterously. He shakes his head, and grins broadly at her. "Oh, no. I cannot be killed. I am a master of zui quan, drunken kung fu." He strikes up a fighting pose on one foot again, which lasts only a moment before he sways and stumbles back onto two feet. He grins a little and then, suddenly, he just... stops swaying and stumbling about. He puts his hands on his hips, his tail swaying behind him a bit. "Alcohol gives me power, but only in great quantities. The amount I drink regularly does little more than keep me flexible, and serve to create the illusion that I appear less sober than I truly am." He grins wider, and leans in a little closer to her, to whisper, "Misdirection and surprise are key elements to my style of gongfu."

Radiance has posed:
Hermione looks doubtful at this whole drunken kung fu thing. But then, what does she know about all this hong kong fooey? She eyes Zhao suspiciously but slowly nods her head. "Well, if you're not as drunk as you say you are...." she says, still suspicious. She takes a deep sigh and gets onto the train as it stops and the doors open. She sits down and pats the seat beside her. "I'm really sorry about that. New York's not that bad, really. Okay, the muggings are a little annoying, but if you can take care of yourself from those, then it's not so bad."

Zhao Lin has posed:
The leopardman follows Hermione onto the train, joining her after she pats the seat. He settles back, putting one leg up on his knee. He takes out his canteen again, taking another drink. "Oh, they were not there to mug us," he says, "Did you miss the tattoos on their wrists? A serpent, surrounding a skull. The mark of the Serpent's Skull, a gang out of Hong Kong. They were trying to kill me, and you, because you were with me." He pauses, then says, "I suppose it is I who should apologize to you, for getting you involved. I hope they do not think you are a part of all of this." He frowns a little, and the train starts moving. "I am glad you were not hurt," he says, though he glances down at her thigh, where her stocking had been slashed. "I am sorry about your clothing," he adds.

Radiance has posed:
Upon hearing that it wasn't actually an attempted mugging, Hermione groans. "I'm starting to think I don't actually like New York all that much," she murmurs with a shake of her head. She did notice the tattoos and so nods her head. "I didn't know that they meant anything. I figured they were together though." She looks down at her own hose and sighs. "It's alright. Mr. Stark gave me a clothing allowance because.... well? I am likely to go through clothes. A lot. I might be bullet proof, but my clothes aren't. At least he only ruined the hose. Those are easily replaced."
