Shadowcat has posed:
Thanksgiving is a quintessential American holiday -- and like a great many people, Kitty Pryde loathes the day after it. It's crazy town, all over the place! So instead, after a quiet day around the mansion, she's actually taken it upon herself to set up a movie/hangout night in the Rec Room. With a popcorn machine! People have wandered in and out throughout the early evening, and at the moment, the brunette is plopped in one of the loveseats with a bowl of popcorn watching the opening credits to "The Incredibles."

Rift has posed:
Superhero movies and popcorn. A beautiful combination. Kitora is _so_ there. She had found a peaceful spot to relax for some of the day - the ceilign of hte atrium: nobody ever looks up there. But right now, she's pulling up into the rec room, not using her powers so she looks normal. "Hey Kitty," she states, grabbing a bowl of popcorn. "So - Incredibles, huh? Best part is 'no capes'."

Shadowcat has posed:
"I love her!" Kitty agrees enthusiastically. "Remember Thunderhead??" She giggles, shoveling the popcorn in. "Edna Mode is the best character EVER. Seriously, she should have had a movie all her own or something. We need an Edna."

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods slowly. "Yeah... they should've made a sequel or something. They had all this time - but I guess they didn't want to." She shrugs. "So... how have you been, Kitty? Haven't seen you much of late."

Shadowcat has posed:
Blowing out a breath, Kitty admits, "I know -- I've been working a lot both at the lab and with Manhunter. Learning the ins and outs of my new job has taken me a little longer than I'd hoped. It's fun, though. And Manhunter's definitely been an education. I'm learning things about my powers that we never really thought to study before." She looks at Kitora and grins a little. "You know, so much of what we teach and learn here is about how to USE them and how not to hurt anyone with them and stuff. We don't really often have the time to ask things like 'how does it actually work?' Which is what we're trying to sort out with mine -- what's the science behind it, you know?" She shrugs a little and then asks, "What about you? What've you been up to?"

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua smiles softly. "Well... I so enjoy my physics class - realizing that many of my abilities tell the laws of physics to go stuff it... nothing as amazing as a job or... MARTIAN MANHUNTER?" she asks in a squeak. "I visited the city a lot - let's see... took a selfie with Johnny Storm, had a chat with Magneto - watched Thor the God of Thunder not know how to use a pen - all looks, no brain that one..." She shrugs. "Hey - someting I wanted to talk to you about. Mr. Summers came to me yesterday in the cafeteria while eating Thanksgiving dinner..." She ponders softly. "Asked me about what my plans are... and... I think he might be trying to recurit me to some kind of team... or something where I can use my powers... I just thought I'd talk to someone about it..."

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty laughs at the squeak. She can't help it. "Yes, Martian Manhunter. He... took an interest in some of the work I did at STAR during my internship last year, and then he realized that my powers don't work quite like his and he was interested." She tilted her head and then nods. "Thor has tons of brains, he's just come from a really different place. It's always so odd to realize they've got all this major tech and yet some things that are so simple just aren't things they've ever had."
The last part of what she says, though, makes Kitty look a hair worried. "Okay," she says about the idea of a team. "What's on your mind about it?"

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua shrugs. "I asked him for an autograph, handing him a pen and a piece of paper. He... just poked the pen through the paper and handed it back to me." She shrugs. "He acted like a moron." She shrugs. "Well... I don't know what team it is... but an opportunity to use these abilities in a constructive setting... he asked me a bunch of questions after I told him I'd love to be an X-Man one day. He then asked me if I was willig nto fight for our kind - and humans..." She frowns. "I - you're into hero stuff already or something... I wanted your opinion..." She gazes back. "I mean - I think this could be a great opportunity. It just would be a waste to have all these abilities and... just get an office job where they'd be wasted or something, y'know?"

Shadowcat has posed:
Blowing out a slow breath, Kitty looks thoughtful. "I've been with the X-Men since I was 13 years old, Kitora. There are benefits -- the kinds of relationships you build on the teams transcends family, really. There are also down sides... times when you're hurt bad or someone else is hurt bad because of something you did or didn't do." She purses her lips. "I don't discourage anyone from fighting if it's what they want to do... but some of the things I've seen, no teenager should ever have to experience. And I keep doing what I do so that those who can't or don't want to fight don't have to. To me, it all comes down to what you're comfortable doing and when you're comfortable doing it. It's not a life for everyone," she admits quietly.

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods slowly. "So young... but I feel that I have a need to prove myself..." She clicks her tongue as she watches the superheroes in the movie go into 'civilian life' to hide, emphasizing with it. "Maybe you're right. Maybe I'm not suited for it. But I want to try." She pondres. "I've put a lot of thought into it. I know it's not all fun and adventure but it'd expand my horizons. I even thought of a codename to use. Rift."

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty shakes her head slightly. "If you walk into this with something to prove... it's hard to keep a clear head. Just keep that in mind, okay? If Scott asked you onto a team, it's because he believes you already have the right stuff. You have nothing to prove to anyone. Believe me, I know the things that can go wrong when you start with that mindset." Something in her expression -- sadness, perhaps -- is gone just as quickly as it appeared. "I think Rift would suit you very well," she agrees with a smile. "And if you want to try it, then you should try it. Leave yourself room to decide that it's not what you want, though -- don't box yourself into it unless or until you're sure." She shrugs. "Maybe that's hypocritical. I went into it even younger than you, though - and I wonder sometimes what I could have done differently. I don't regret anything, but... you know, the road not taken works on every choice."

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods as she murmurs, "Words of wisdom..." She sighs softly. "I just feel... that my powers would be wasted in a mundane life. I have them for a reason..." She lowers her head. "Maybe one day - my parents will be proud of me... we haven't spoken since my powers awakened... of course, they almost died..."

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty winces. "Yeah... that can put a damper on parent/child relations," she agrees, her tone sympathetic. "Like you, I think we have them for a reason and that any power just needs to be used to its potential, like any other gift. If you have a gift for music, I'd say go use it to make beautiful music. If your gift can help save the world, well... if not you, then who?" She smiles just a bit. "I don't know your family situation... but I can tell you this much. If your parents love you as much as you love them, you'll find your way back. It might not be simple or soon. But it does happen."

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods slowly. "But they won't even return my calls... I don't even know where they are anymore." She sighs softly. "I hope you're right, Kitty. I'm also a good cook... since I have to eat so much, I learned how to make good food that I like..."

Shadowcat has posed:
"I'm sorry that it's been so hard with your folks," Kitty offers, her tone gentle. And she truly is. She knows just how lucky she's been with her parents. "In the meantime -- be proiud of yourself. Because I know that the teachers here are pretty proud of you."

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods slowly. "If... if they weren't... I wuldn't be offered this. I have tried very hard to control my abilities. I think I've succeeded. But I have never been... tested." She smiles faintly as Syndrome makes his grand appearance.

Shadowcat has posed:
Glancing at Syndrome over there, Kitty says ruefully, "Hey -- you're doing better than that guy. You know, if Tony Stark ever were going to be a villain, I bet he'd be that guy." She snickers. "Cuz.. jet boots!"
Winking at Kitora, she says, "I think you must be doing really really well for Scott to consider you. Think of it this way: I was his guinea pig, along with the New Mutants. They honed their recruitment by learning what would and wouldn't work out there. They know how to identify people who can handle it. It's a compliment."

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods. "I hope I am worthy..." she muses softly as she grabs more popcorn, on her third bowl already. "Syndrome was a putz. Badly written." She pondres. "I mean, he gets owned by a baby after all." She ponders. "Guinea pig? Do you regret it?"

Shadowcat has posed:
Tilting her head, Kitty seriously considers that question. "I don't regret... who I've become because of all of it," she responds slowly. "But hindsight being what it is... there are experiences that I wouldn't wish on anyone and if I knew then what I know now, there are probably a few things I'd do differently. But I make a point of not regretting -- if only because if I *had* done them differently, they could have come out worse. Or I wouldn't be who I am. And I rather like the person I've become. Does that make sense?"

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods. "Yes. There is no more terrible thing then the 'what might have been'. I hope... that my battle scars won't be as deep - when I get some." She sighs softly. "I go to meet with Mr. Summres tomorrow. Wish me luck?"

Shadowcat has posed:
"You won't need luck," Kitty assures with a smile. "I have every faith in you. Let me know if you want any help with training. I know I'm not around as much as the teachers, but when I *am* here, I'm happy to help."
