Mentoring Meeting!
Date of Scene: 26 November 2017
Location: Xavier's School, Westchester, New York
Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Polaris, Rift

Polaris has posed:
After classes are called for the day, Lorna has occupied one of the class rooms, reaching out to the seniors to discuss options for life after graduation. The green haired teacher is sitting at one of the student desks rather than the teacher's desk, preferring to keep things informal.
Dressed in a knee length skirt and button down blouse with pumps, she looks over the empty classroom, embracing the quiet as she tidies her binder and pens. Twisting her wedding band around on her finger she eyes the door, waiting for her student patiently.

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua enters the room exactly on time as she smiles faintly. "Ms. Dane," she states. "I have come as requested... may I ask what this is about? I thought I was doing good with all my assignments... or was it that selfie with Johnny Storm?" she asks, frowning. She was in her 'powered form' at the time she took that photo.

Polaris has posed:
"Selfie with-?" Lorna asks and holds up a hand. "Ah, no." She shakes her head. Green eyes settle on the young woman. "No. You're coming into your last semester." She tells Kitora and gestures to the chair. Looking at Kitora she smiles. "Have you put any thought into what comes after you graduate?"

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods slowly. "Well, college comes to mind. Either physics... cooking school..." She hesitates, taking a deep breath. "I'd love to try to be an X-Man..." she whispers softly, clcking her tongue. "Fighting for mutantkind. I have all these abilities, Ms. Dane. It'd be a shame to just have a normal life. I've read all I could about the X-Men."

Polaris has posed:
"Well, we as a school can certainly help with college." Lorna murmurs. Sliding out a chair, she adopts a wry smile. "Plenty of mutants live normal day to day lives. I myself am a teacher, family job aside." She opens her binder. "So, lets focus on college first. There will be plenty of time to discuss being recruited to a hero team if you decide the risk is worth it to you."

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods slowly. "Setting aside the hero stuff - two paths are before me. I am enjoying studying physics - mostly because some of my abilities can disregard them. Or... I could become a professional chef sine I'm a big eater." She sighs softly. "But really - I want to use these gifts..."

Polaris has posed:
Looking up, Lorna nods. "I understand. It's a strong want-to make the world better. But joining a marshal team really is more a discussion to have with Scott." She informs Kitora gently. "So! Physics and cooking. Well!" She straightens into her chair. "Would you like to be a scientist. As a geophysicist, I can certainly appreciate the allure of physics." Her lips quirk into a smile. "There are a number of schools friendly toward mutant students."

Rift has posed:
Kitora Aluanods. "I could go either way... I actually was talking to Mr. Summers about it - he was going to talk to me yesterday but apparently he was taken out of town." She ponders. "I'm really not sure which way I'd wnat to go - with the physics or becoming a professional chef. I am sure that I can't follow both fully."

Polaris has posed:
"Sadly, it is a challenge to follow both." Lorna nods. "I mean, there is nothing stopping you from getting degrees in both. Do you take cooking with Tatum? She's quite the gourmet. It might give you a taste of what being a chef could be like?" The instructor leans on the desk and studies Kitora.

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods. "Perhaps I'll just keep cooking to a hobby and physics my profession. Studying gravity mainly." She ponders. "And do you mean Ms. O'Neal? Yes, I'm in her class. Gourmet indeed. I've learned much from her."

Polaris has posed:
"She is inspiring." Lorna nods and looks at Kitora. "Well, let's make sure you have some advanced physics next semester and get you on track for college." She closes the binder and slides it away. "I recall gravity being effected by your power, in that sense we aren't so dissimilar. That's why I got my masters in Geophysics." She tells Kitora and leans on her elbow. "How is your training going in that regard? Your mutation, I mean."

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua winks. "I'll be right back," she states as she stands. She suddenly starts to glow, a dull red glow suffuses her body, washing out the colors, with bright liens of light visible inside her arms legs, head, and chest. She gestures as a portal tears open and she walks through it into her bedroom, fetches her physics textbook, and walks back. "I think my training is going well. I can walk on walls or ceiling. I can even take someone flying with me... I think I can go a few hundred MPH through the skies..." She blinks. "The main problem I have... is whenever I use my mutant powers - my appearance changes to this. I cannot be subtle about my ability usage."

Polaris has posed:
"Some of us aren't subtle. That's not a bad thing. We are just mutants who are better suited to errr, not being so subtle." Lorna explains and looks at Kitora. "And that's ok. Some times it's nice to be an obvious mutant. It sounds like you're developing control, that's good to hear Kitora. That's the most important thing any mutant can learn." Her voice warm as she studies the girl once she reappears.

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods as she smiles, as she floats upside-down, legs crossed. "I think I have good control. But... I have not had any real tests..." She shrugs. "I do know that if I don't eat enough, it becomes harder..." She then returns to her seat, and as she stops using her powers, that eerie glow dissipates. "I look normal when not using my powers... well... other than my eyes."

Polaris has posed:
Leaning back, Lorna crosses her arms under her chest. "Right. We'll get you training with Mr. Summers extra curricular team. It's the only way to get a taste for if you can handle being on a super team like X-Men or Avengers. I'm sure it doesn't seem glamorous, but the X-Men weren't either when it started out." Her expression is warm still, encouraging.

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua smiles. "But they are glamorous now." She shrugs. "I think studying physics would be best... I always do enjoy your lectures." She pondres. "You control electromagnetism, right?" she asks. "Kinda like Magneto come to think of it..." She ponders. "I know - gravity vs. electormagnetism would not be in my favor..." She shrugs.

Polaris has posed:
Laughing, Lorna shakes her head. "Happily, we'll never have to find out." She tells the student. "But to confirm your observation, yes-Magneto and I have a very similar mutation. Hank would tell you that in all likely hood it's due to being so closely related." She drums her fingers on the binder. "So, advanced physics next semester and testing your control in power training. I think that's a sound game plan. Oh, and talk to Scott." She writes a note to remind herself. "Well. Is there anything I can answer for you?" She wonders, glancing again at the student.

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua murmurs, "Am I being foolish in wanting a chance to use my powers for good? I mean - I know a lot of our kind just try to ignore their stuff and try to leave mundane lives. But I don't want that for myself - I want to be... awesome. I even have a codename chosen. Rift." She ponders, trialing off.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna takes her time choosing how to answer. She shakes her head, drawing in a breath. "Wanting to better the world is never wrong." She tells Kitora softly. "And there are many ways to do that. But...choosing to give up normal life for the one we live as heroes-it shouldn't be entered into lightly." She advises softly.
