Cast of Characters: Vincent Black, Shadowlite, Rift

Vincent Black has posed:
Tension continue to boil over in the mutant/human relations, today it's occuring in Clinton. Tomorrow who knows where, but right here, right now, the situation has reached a tipping point when a physically altered man was returning home with groceries ended up being the final straw for a bunch of protestors and it seems these kind of people are coming out of the woodworks since the President's assassination. Police have been dispatched and riot gear has been doned while being used more as a line to keep people from killing mutants and vice versa. This whole struggle and series of sharp conflicts haven't been easy on the city as a whole, and the police force is divided by the schism as well with many being anti mutant or pro mutant in sometimes vocal and visible ways themselves.

Tonight's focus isn't in the middle of the riot, and actually begins during the final stages of unrest. Several people have been shoved into paddywagons and EMTs are on the scene administering first aid to man and mutant alike. Leaning against one of the open ambulances in the dispersing crowd is Detective Black with his notepad held in his left hand and in his right a polished metal pen scribbling notes quickly as he interviews a suspect who's having a paramedic wrap a healthy amount of gauze around the man's lascerated shin.

"They're taking our homes! Don't you see that!?" Says the injured man up to the apathetic, at best, cop who jots down the words rapidly and mutters them back under his breath. "Taking, homes. Yes sir." Vincent hates this part of the job, but he's doing it.

Shadowlite has posed:
Ah, New York. One of his favorite places to get into all kinds of stupid shit. Shadowlite hasn't been back here for months, but when a colleague of his calls in a favor to get him out of the riot zone, Shadowlite grumbled as he dons his suit and took the two hours trip via the Darkforce Dimension over to the area.

He finally appears in the alleyway off to one side out of a dark aperture just off an alleyway near Vincents position, his 'friend' in a dumpster. Shadowlite wears a fully black suit as he steps out, with two teenage punks hovering over said dumpster. Upon seeing the new guy come out of nowhere, both turn to regard him. Shadowlite? He just stands there, watching them.

Rift has posed:
Rift sighs audibly as she hears about another riot. Things are just getting worser and worser. She begins traveling from school to the riot zone - deciding to fly at her maximum speed, munching on a protein bar, having several more whre that came from. She hopes it's overblown as she arrives where the news said, hovering over the crowd, glad that people generally don't look up at the sky unless something draws their attention - for if anyone would look up, they'd see the eerie sight of Rift in all her splendor.

Vincent Black has posed:
The riot is slowly disolving as many of the tensions have brimed over the metaphorical pot and with the heat of the moment passed, at least for the crowd itself, many people are still fuming with rage and anger and prejudice. Vincent Black however is not given that luxury, instead he's booking a man with attacking a police official, having watched the young man throw his life away with the rock he used to throw at an officer's helmeted head.

"Have fun in the hospital Che, if that's your real name." The aged cop says with a scoff in his voice at the dumb fake name the kid gave him. "I'll be by in a few hours with many people who will want to talk to you." Vincent says before turning to the EMT and patting their shoulder as he flips his note pad away and just catches out of the corner of his eye the blackness in the alley. He assumes it's another kid in a full balaclava and while it's cold, there was a riot just here. He does not need another one breaking out. His eyebrows lift at the sight of another individual up in the air, and rolls his grey-brown eyes with a sigh before shaking his head and walking towards the alley. His hands down at his sides almost like an old school cowboy when he calls out. "Hey, you in the alley." Towards Shadowlite and the others in the dark exterior hallway.

Shadowlite has posed:
There's a brief glance to Vincent from the black suited man, before he turns his eyes back to the two hovering over the dumpster. "Another freak, brother. Probably here for the freak in the can." One scoffs. The other gives a chuckle.... then, they're interrupted by the man. A voice mask is obviously being used, though his baritone is clear enough. "Get out of here now, or no one will hear from you again."

As Shadowlite threatens the two, they grabs their bats and crowbars, "Looks like another mutie needs a lesson." As they reach for those weapons, though... the alleyway plunges into pitch black for ten meters all around.

"Last chance."

Rift has posed:
Rift squeaks as the alley goes all dark. She opens a bag as she lands on the side of a building so she doesn't stick out as well, standing on the wall like a floor, being orbited by a medley of tiny metal objects - BBs apparently. She starts sliding down towards the ground, 'skating' on the side of the wall, looking in front of her (down) at the bubble of darkness, but stops on the 4th floor, waiting to see what's happening - she doesn't want to fire blind...

Vincent Black has posed:
Standing at the mouth of the alley when the thing goes blacker, darker, like the light is pulled away from the alley or prevented from going in. Something, Vincent blinks once before his sidearm is drawn and leveled down the alley with no clear targets. He does snap his head up at the girl about fourty feet above him, standing on the wall like some sort of spider-man-person-thing.

"Hey, get out of here!" The cop calls up and out towards the vigilante, not wanting to be responsible for the girl's injuries, but he does have to stop the attack from happening and with a subtle shrug and a mumbled word or two under his breath, Vincent steps into the darkness shouting, "NYPD! Step out and show yourselves. His free hands pulls a flashlight and clicks on the powerful beam as he steps into the darkenss fully.

Shadowlite has posed:
The beam does nothing to penetrate the blackness, and in fact, once Vincent steps into the light, he's completely blind. This goes beyond shadow, this is... the absence of light.... and the flashlight? It's as if it isn't even there, as if the light from it is being consumed.

Once the two start to stumble with their weapons, an... electrical crackle of sorts can be heard, as Shadowlite opens an aperture right below the two brutes.... and a few seconds later, the sound of the two men screaming can be heard... and abruptly gets cut off as they're sucked into the Darkforce Dimension through a floor portal.

Rift has posed:
Rift just frowns, hearing some screaming. She walks the last twenty or so feet to the edge of the darkness bubble, kneelign down on the wall as she pokes it with a finger, the BBs orbiting her whizzing around faster. She doesn't feel anything, but when her hand crosses the threshold, she can't see it as she yanks it back.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent curses to himself and continues forwards with purpose, but cautious purporse. Not being able to see is a handicap for the detective, but it's not something he's never had to deal with before. Instead turning to his ears, the sounds of silence, the sounds of reverbation and the sounds of ambiance and the lack there off.

"Kid, bring them back, or you're going to be in far worse trouble than those guys are." Vincent says. He's known a teleporter or two in his times in the future mutant wars. He's heard the sound of men being sucked into places they never even knew existed. It's not a sound you can forget easily.

Shadowlite has posed:
If Shadowlite heard Vincent, he's certainly unfazed... and once the man is in the bubble and gives his threat, Shadowlite coats his suit in Darkforce, the misty shadow forming around him until it becomes a titanium like shell.

Then, Vincent can feel something akin to a net settle over him, slowing his progress as Shadowlite streams Darkforce over him in the pitch black. The net itself isn't too well constructed, unlike the armor he now wears... but it isn't meant to keep Vincent in place... just to distract him. Those bone blades of his can cut him out of it in about ten seconds or so, probably.

That crackling sound can be heard again... this time the sound of the dumpster can be heard as it slides into another aperture in the ground.

Rift has posed:
Rift whimpers as she hesitates at the edge of the bubble. She hears that crackling sound again. She slithers another foot down the wall of the building and suddenly is blind. She steps back and can see again. "Damnit," she mutters as the glowing female mutant crawls down into the bubble, still on the side of the building until she reaches the ground. She has no idea what is going on, but the orbit of those little metal balls around her is enough to make a faint whirring in the air as she isn't sure what to do as she tries to reach out with her senses... but other than gravitational anomalies, she just has the normal human senses and they don't do much good here.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent feels the tendrils of none-rope fall across him and squints his ancient eyes, glaring into the nothingness. "Damnit kid." Vincent barks as he drops to his back, lifts a hand and rolls out from under the netting. Memories of teaching Hope how to deal with such a simple trap having recently reinforced his synapses and speed in the action.

On his back, Vincent's head turns in the direction of the voice above and behind him. "Stay back girl!" He says with the authority of a soldier, before he tries to listen even deeper, in the direction of where the wind in the alley ceases and breaks. He levels his gun in that direction and speaks again towards Shadowlite. "Kid, this is how you get more mutants killed. You're not helping."

Shadowlite has posed:
"You have no idea what I'm doing, so don't pretend you do." Shadowlite shoots back, that voice mask clear. Then, he steps back into the alleyway... and disappears into a shadow, literally

The bubble drops... and when the light returns, so does the flashlight beam. The two men -and the dumpster- are gone.

Shadowlite? He's nowhere to be seen. For the moment. The only sign of his passage a misty darkness floating like particles of dust away from a deep shadow against the wall.

Rift has posed:
Rift squeaks as hse rapidly covers her eyes. Rift stands there, her body (clothes and all) glowing a dull red but with bright lights visible inside her arms, legs, chest, and head. She squints. "What's going on?" she asks softly. "And I can take care of myself, though I thank you for your chivalry." She sighs softly as she walks around, the BBs no longer oribitng her but hovering in front of her as she returns them to a cloth bag and puts them away. "I just came to see if I could help but... that's beyond my league."

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent smirks silently as soon as the kid starts talking and squeezes off two shots just below where the voice was coming from. Body shots will certainly suffice.

Vincent sighs as the lights return and he blinks a few times before clicking off his flashlight and yet he holds it in his hand still, the barrel of his gun smokes for a moment as he looks up while still on his back towards Rift. "I'm not being chivalrous." Vincent says flatly to the girl before he pushes back up and clambers onto his feet and motions to the badge hanging around his neck.

Doubled over and with his flashligth in one hand and gun in the other he's catching his breath, or he looks like it. "You and me both kid. You and me both."

Shadowlite has posed:
"Typical bigot. Won't do a thing about the assaulters in the alley next to him. Then when someone turns the tables and puts them to task, he draws his gun. Then you people wonder why tensions are so high." The voice sounds like it's around the corner of the alley.

"I'm not interested in getting involved in these. This was a favor. Keep this shit up though, cop, and you just might get more riots." The voice isn't moving yet... and the sounds of screams can be heard again, following by crashing into objects. It's an easy trail to follow.

Rift has posed:
Rift widens her eyes as she quickly starts sliding along the ground in that direction, moving at a good pace, leaning a bit 'away' from it as if it's a slippery slope as she heads towards the source of that sound. Not wasting any times, re-deploying the BBs to orbit her as she stops to see what's going on.

Vincent Black has posed:
"I'm the bigot." Vincent says to himself as he stands up and his hand holding the flashlight puts it away on his belt and draws out his radio. "Unit 317 in Clinton, I've got a teleporter at the scene of the riot, set up a perimeter two blocks around my position and turn on some damn lights." The detective says in his radio before putting it back on his belt.

Still with is side arm drawn he turns back to face Rift, the girl closer to the mouth of the alley, he calls ahead to her. "Be careful." Vincent says to the girl, chosing to not respond to the 'voice' that's running away.

Black steps up to the wall and presses his back against it, keeping an eye on Rift as she's someone he now needs to make sure gets home in one piece too. Shouldn't be too different from when he was teaching Hope, right?

Shadowlite has posed:
"Oh, don't bother wasting your resources. Have fun with dumb and dumber, though." Shadowlite says with amusement, "Consider it a favor on my part. I didn't need to give them back to you. I intend to collect one day." Indeed, when Vincent starts to look around the corner, he'll find the two men from the alley, sans weapons... knocked out, but in tact.

Rift? She's the first to notice it when Shadowlite floats out of the alleyway and a few meters off a rooftop... on a dark disk of some kind. Misty darkness flows off of it, leaving behind a slight trail as he gradually floats away over the rooftops... that Darkforce armor solid and completely obscuring even his physique. He's just standing on it, watching the streets.

Rift has posed:
Rift calls, "Mr. Officer? I have two people down!" she calls as she kneels by them, putting the BBs away again. She doesn't want to touch them as she sighs, and once Vincent comes around the corner, turns her glow off so she looks relatively normal - an Asian teenager wearing red clothes with red har. (And eyes). She glances up towards the rooftop where the shadow guy went, but decides to focus on the situation here.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent steps around quickly when Rift calls out and he drops to his knees next to the two unconscious men. He steals a glance to Rift and then back over to two men before he pulls out his radio again. "This is Unit 317 again, I have two men down and need medical attention rapidly." The man says before he replaces his radio and steals a glance at Rift again, more worried about getting these men safely into custody and getting their testimonies.

"Thanks for the help kid, but be more careful. I don't want to have to call in for you some day. Got me?" Vincent is rather forward in his warning. He always hates seeing mutants getting involved in these things. It never helps in the ways they want or mean to.

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua nods. "I was careful," she states. "I'm also undergoing training to handle this kind of situation - it's an advanced cource at school." She smiles faintly. "I'm tougher than I look, and harder to hit than I seem..." She rubs her right arm subconsciously - there's a small scar there that looks suspiciously like a scar from a bullet.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent turns his attention back to Kitora, standing up as the flashing lights of an ambulance bounce off the brick wall. He extends a hand to help her up and quietly slips his pistol back into the leather holster on his belt. "I do appreciate the help, but I'm not sure of any schools that teach you how to deal with a powered individual like he was." Vincent says with a defeated sigh escaping his lips.

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua smiles faintly. "A school for the gifted," she states softly. "Farewell, OFficer," she states, nodding, as her aura engulfs her again. A portal tears open, showing a distant rooftop. She steps through, waving to you, as the portal winks out as Rift leaves. She didn't want to be ther when the ambulance personnel arrived.
