Cast of Characters: Polaris, Shadowlite

Polaris has posed:
It's a warm day in Genosha, like so many days on the tropical island. In light of Magneto's implications in the assassination of the US President and his detainment, Polaris has been making herself busy on the island representing the royal family and leading their people. Her famous green locks are bound in chains and beads of gold and silver. She wears a linen button up of cream and lavender trousers, working with a line of people to help sow crops in a field just outside the city proper.
There's a little space offered around the woman but largely she works with everyone calmly, cameras about to no doubt cover the princess and her efforts to show a gentler side of mutants, and the island's people with all the political tension in the air.

Shadowlite has posed:
It's around this time an electrical crackling can be heard from... somewhere. Anyone looking over to some of the more sizable farming equipment can see black 'lightning' arcing here and there... followed by a loud "FUCK!" as something smashes into one of the containers. Shadowlite grumps, "Glad this isn't on camera..." this voice mask scrambling his voice as he starts to slide to the ground in pain. The man is wearing a pitch black suit and trenchcoat, the hood having a white visor where the eyes are being the only break in that blackness.

Polaris has posed:
Tensing, Lorna looks up, green energy fluttering about her fingers. She looks over towards the farming equipment and steps out of the line. Energy crackles up her arms in arcs of green as she walks over to the cursing voice and glances at the cameras and camera men about. Waving them back to the gardeners she dismisses the ruckus to them with a clear voice. "Must be some traveler's power flickering. We will see to it." her tone clear as she approaches the strange individual.

Shadowlite has posed:
By the time Polaris is within line of sight of Shadowlite, the aperture that brought him here is almost closed, and she can see the 'flicker' of black 'lightning' as reality closes back in on itself, and Shadowlite stands up, clutching his head and leaning against the container wall.

"Ow. Ow." Shadowlite grumps some more. Then, he sees Polaris, "Uh..." Then, he sees the green energy, and brings his hands up, some sort of black mist starts to float around his hands as he watches her, "Fair warning, I do defend myself if provoked." Shadowlite threatens. He's not firing anything yet... but he does have the stance of tension, ready to get moving.

Polaris has posed:
"Oh this? Purely defense." Polaris assures with a flash of a smile. "It's a part of the deal. No body guards, but I need to keep my shields ready." Her eyes travel curiously over the newcomer and the flickers of the closing portal. "Snag on something in your travels perhaps?" She asks with a look about. "You're on the island nation of Genosha at present. Few portal here, were you reaching for our neighbor perhaps, Madripor?"

Shadowlite has posed:
"I've never been anywhere near this part of the world, so having an accurate dump point when I'm smashing reality is pretty critical. Turns out reading maps I bought second hand didn't really help." He groans in pain then as he rubs his forehead. "I came out all wrong. I thought I was diving into a lake." Shadowlite grumps some more, before he shakes his head and gives in a bright, cheery tone. "Well, I got into the right nation, at least. You can call me Shadowlite. Don't worry, you've never heard of me. I don't like to be found." A beat, "You are...?" The mist around his hands fades... flowing down to his chest instead as a black 'liquid' sticks there, and he goes into a neutral stance.

Polaris has posed:
"Polaris." The green haired woman offers with some surprise. "I'm a member of the royal family here." She blinks and glances back at the farmers and the news reporters, waving them back to the more important work again as she studies Shadowlite. "So your intent was to come to Genosha? Are you some sort of teleporter?" She wonders and places her hands on her hips lightly.

Shadowlite has posed:
"Polaris? A pretty name for a pretty woman." Shadowlite gives. if he's intimidated by 'royalty' he's certainly not showing it in his flirtations. "I'd heard rumors about this place for a while, but I didn't know who to trust. So I figured why not come here myself? It'd take me a day or two max to get back to my place, and with the news lately I wanted to get the lay of the land."

Then, Shadowlite crosses his arms, watching Polaris... then those behind her. "oh. I was on camera. Wonderful." He dryly quips, before he looks back to Polaris. "I'm... a teleporter in my own way, I suppose, as most understand it." He informs her. "I can do a lot of things, but most people hire me for my transfer abilities."

Polaris has posed:
"Transfer abilities, a curious way to phrase things. Well then, welcome to Genosha, home of mutants. This place had an ugly history, we're working to turn it around. It's infrastructure runs largely on clean energy, with locally grown crops helped by a few mutants with some skill in that department it will help limit what we must import to survive. Would you care to join our volunteers to help with the planting?" She offers with an easy gesture.

Shadowlite has posed:
Theres a look to the planters, before he looks to Polaris, "I can appreciate what you're doing... but I have no idea if I even like this place yet, let alone want to work to keep it self-sufficienct." Then, he starts to walk over, "I do like you so far though, so that's a start." Then, he stops a few feet from Polaris, "Are you available for a tour, or are your volunteers taking up your time?" Shadowlite looks to the side, behind to the planters.

Polaris has posed:
"I can at the very least show you to the road into town. Hammer Bay is the seat of Genosha, but of course the island is fairly large." Polaris offers and looks up as he comes closer. "But I would be remiss to abandon my compatriots here in the dirt after volunteering my afternoon to them." She points out with some amusement in her tone and directs Shadowlite around the efforts and starts walking, clearly expecting him to keep up.

Shadowlite has posed:
Oh, there's traveling involved now? Shadowlite looks downwards then, and a piece of that 'liquid' ozzes down to his feet. Polaris can hear the sound of that electrical crackling again as a new portal forms under Shadowlite, and the blackness forms a thin disk over it... before lifting him into the air a few feet. The man starts to 'fly' along on a black platform, black mist 'oozing' from it as he keeps up with Polaris standing.

"Why do *you* like it?" Shadowlite inquires.

Polaris has posed:
"The island?" Polaris asks and watches him with a crinkle of amusement in her eyes. "Because it was a haven to me as one of the "dangerous" mutants. A lot of places in the world just haven't gotten used to the idea of us despite all the time that's passed. Here I can prove my power can create beautiful things, safer buildings, a stronger infrastructure-what I do is seen for what my father once did with his very similar skills. I would never be accepted say, in Queens, or Los Angeles. Here, I am an asset." She stops herself and chuckles. "No sales pitch. See for yourself what the island is like and decide if this is a place that works for you."

Shadowlite has posed:
"I don't do sales pitches anyway, I do honesty. If someone does a sales pitch, my first thing I usually do is find out where the thing is made and go there." Shadowlite gives a chuckle, the scrambler make it sound a bit electronic, "Which is why I'm here."

Shadowlite notes, before he turns in place towards Polaris, 'floating' sideways alongside, "So, a pretty thing *and* an idealist." Shadowlite notes, "What's stopping the nations of the world from, say, launching a bunch of missiles and turning this entire place into glass?" Shadowlite inquires.

Polaris has posed:
"My family. I spend a great deal of time working with the UN to keep us from war. Being implicated in the assassination of a US president isn't doing our leader any favors, but he's working with the system and I am keeping our government running, and the missiles off our backs." She glances a him as he floats sideways with an even stare. If she's strained for her efforts she's doing a great job masking it. "It's lucky we have powerful mutants dedicated to defense here-not looking to start wars."

Shadowlite has posed:
"Hmmm." Shadowlite gives in response, before he looks around. *Really* looks around this time, his head swiveling here and there, before he looks back to Polaris. "Sounds like a lot of work and a lot of hope on your part." Shadowlite notes with a hint of empathy. "You don't delegate any of it?"

Polaris has posed:
"I delegate, sure. I have people to make sure that we're keeping with Geneva Conventions and UN law, there are people who handle the day to day and I look over what I can-but I am an X-Man, a mutant of good standing, so I put my name and credibility on the line for these people-so they can have families, and stable lives safe from the fear their neighbors will drive them out or report them out of suspicion if someone's cat goes missing-for example." Lorna says and lifts her chin a little. It's there, around her eyes, the furrow of worry she struggles to keep at bay in the public eye. "No nation-young nation runs with out a great deal of hope that it's people can together build something lasting."

Shadowlite has posed:
"Sounds about right." Shadowlite notes, before he starts to look around. "You've put a lot of yourself into this, from the sounds of it. I think I'll let you go and get back to it, and come find you later. See you later, Polaris." Shadowlite gives a wave, before he he practically takes off like a bullet train up into the sky and flies off. The man can *move* on that disk thing.
