Cast of Characters: Shadowlite, Redstar

Shadowlite has posed:
Mutant Town. Not the sort of place Shadowlite comes often, but business is business.

Here? At least he can keep a fairly low profile using his powers. Even if he used his powers in public, there'd probably only be one or two eyeblinks. Instead, Shadowlite appears out of the shadows of an alleyway off a main street. Literally.

Literally, as in a dark, misty mass floats out of a shadow in the alleyway... forms into a humanish shape, and turns solid. Solid enough for the black bodysuit and black trenchcoat of the man to be seen as he looks around, one hand going to a trenchcoat pocket.

Redstar has posed:
"Oh geez!" The voice is young, surprised, and feminine. Behind him comes the sound of someone taking a step or two back, cans and detritus being kicked about. The teen who had been going through someones discards in the alley. A box of old clothes, stained and torn or just no longer fitting, under an overhang has kept them mostly free of the falling snow. She holds a few pieces draped across one arm. The fear quickly behind to fade from her face as her wings come up about her, alert and ready to take her away.

Shadowlite has posed:
"Hmmm?" Shadowlite hears, but doesn't see, for a moment. Then, that greyish triangle visor centers on Vicky, and Shadowlite presses the button to turn on his voice mask. "Oh. Hello there. I'm not here to hurt you." Shadwolite informs the winged woman. Then, he looks to where she was... and Shadowlite frowns under that mask, before he looks back to her. "Homeless, or a runaway?" Shadowlite inquires. He hasn't moved, except to turn around to regard her. "Ah, I remember you from the picture. I'm Shadowlite." He gives a wave.

Redstar has posed:
Vicky is too stunned to anything for several seconds. Her lips slightly parted and brow furrowed she stares at the darkly dressed man. Then she blinks and says, "Ahhh...picture?" There is worry in her voice and she takes another step back. The wings spread slightly and quiver slightly. Her eyes begin to dark to the sky, the fire escapes, and the rest of the alley. Despite trying to seem harmless, he may have said the wrong thing.

Shadowlite has posed:
"Yeah, there's a missing poster about you. I keep track of those for various reasons. So you're probably a runaway." Shadowlite looks to the wings, "I got lucky that my abilities weren't obvious like yours. Shame." Then he looks back to her face. "I'm not looking to grab you or report you. What you do is your business, girl, and if you wanted to go back to wherever you called home, you'd obviously do it yourself." Shadowlite points out, "I was in your situation a long time ago, but I had connections which allowed me to survive. I might be able to help you, if you're interested." Shadowlite notes.

Redstar has posed:
This has been a very strange day filled with odd hope for Vicky. The wings quiver as she considers this man who appeared from the shadows. Butterflies fill her stomach and she frowns in uncertainty. "I...could use help. But I can't go back. They just think I'm crazy..."

Shadowlite has posed:
"Kind of hard to be crazy when you have literal wings coming out of your back." Shadowlite observes, before he takes out a card, tossing it to Vicky. "My number." Then, he takes a cell phone from another pocket, handing it over. "And a burner phone to call with. It goes to a voice mail box I maintain." Shadowlite notes, "I can help you in one or two ways; I can give you a place to lay low under one of my fake IDs. I've got an apartment or two in most major cities. You can stay in one of them until you figure your shit out. Or you can get into my business, and I can mentor you." A beat, "I'm a mercenary. A mutant mercenary, to be specific."

Redstar has posed:
Vicky takes the card in a sort of automated way the look on her face still one of shock. "I...don't know what to say," She says after a heartbeat. She takes the phone next and blinks quickly as she looks between them. "I...honestly don't know what or where to go from here. I mean...I...I'm not good at hurting people. I'd make a poor mercenary." When she finishes speaking her eyes unfocus and her lip curls slightly at some seeming passing thought. "And it isn't the wings that make me crazy it's...other things," She shrugs a shoulder and looks at the ground.

Shadowlite has posed:
"You don't need to hurt people to be a mercenary, sweetheart... but it can certainly help for the higher risk jobs. Bodyguarding for someone, if it goes right, can easily mean just standing around and looking mean." Shadowlite observes, before he gives a nod to the card, "Up to you. girl. You look like you could use a place to stay, and I can find ways for you to repay the favor easily that don't tread on any morals you might have."

Redstar has posed:
Vicky was about to look offended until Shadowlite mentioned morals. She stands there frowning and then takes a deep breath and nods. "It's better than digging through trash. I don't know what I can do...or help, but I'm willing to give it a try. Heh...I'm a never ending supply of liquid nitrogen?" She raises one hand and a sphere about the size of a soccer ball forms above her hand. It is made of an almost formless liquid bubbling around itself within the sphere. Vapor and mist floats away from the source of extreme cold. Vicky smiles proudly as she tosses it back and forth between her hands. Looking around she notes a bag of plain garbage. Then she tosses the sphere onto it and it splatters as it lands. The liquid running across plastic and causing it to become horribly brittle, falling apart when she nudges it with a foot.

Shadowlite has posed:
"Everyones got to start somewhere, sweetheart." Shadowlite points out. "When I first started out, it took me a few weeks to work out the basics. Luckily, it was fairly natural for me." He shrugs, before he reaches down with his free hand, and a stream of blackness emits from him... along with a small disclike blackness floating horizontally next to him. The blackness 'coats' the disk, and Shadowlite steps on top of it. "I saw that look. I'm not about to ask for bodily favors from a total stranger mutant. You don't need to worry about that." Shadowlite observes.

Redstar has posed:
Vicky blushes bright red at the ears and looks down at the ground. "Sorry...it wouldn't be the first time. But...you should know it isn't just me...there's another. And she isn't nice and I have no control over her. Or...or when she shows up really," This seems to be an uncomfortable topic of conversation for her. The wings quiver and then fall to wrap closely to her arms, sort of like giving herself a hug. "I don't want to cause you any trouble...And anywhere I go...she is."

Shadowlite has posed:
"Well, I'm no expert on your shit, sweetheart... but it seems to me like you've got a lot of work to do finding a way to live with another personality, then." Shadowlite notes as he float up, then around her... giving her a circle around looksey. "If you trash one of my apartments? No biggie, I can just zip on out of there. Normals don't get what we deal with, and I've got no interest in explaining it to them."

Then, he floats back down to in front of her. "Alright. I've got a meetup to deal with in a minute, here. It's why I came out to this hole in the first place. I'll go and do that, then I can take you to one of my places, and we can go from there?"

Redstar has posed:
Vicky is quiet and watches him circle her. A slight frown is hanging around on her face and when he lands she summons a weak smile and nods. "It's...not like that. She...exists. She is totally separate from me. She has her own powers, separate from mine!" She hopes this might help.

Shadowlite has posed:
"Well, we'll find out." Shadowlite gives in a non-chalant shrug, before he flies off skywards, then over a rooftop.

It takes about ten minutes, but eventually he flies back over, then down, hovering a foot above the ground with a hand still in his trenchcoat pocket. "I've got a decent apartment about half the city from here. You can stay there until I figure out something better for you." Shadowlite states. Then, he reaches his free hand out towards the wall behind himself, and a blackness oozes from his hand... and Vicky can see reality bend 'inward' a misty blackness coming out of the tear in reality.

A moment later, black 'lightning' begins to arc around the hole, and soon enough, the aperture is big enough for Vicky and Shadowlite both, easily. The black hole in space pouring black 'mist' at the edges. "Welcome to your first time through a pocket of my own brand of smashed reality. Just step through, and in about ten seconds, you'll be in my apartment."

Redstar has posed:
Vicky stares at the blackness and frowns even more deeply at it. She'll be sure to have wrinkles if she keeps doing that. "What...what is it? It's so...darkm" She says as she walks cautiously towards the portal. Her wings flutter about her nervously, trailing ever so slightly on the ground behind her. "Is it safe? Do I need to hold my breath?" She's read comics before and sometimes that's how you have to go. She read a book series recently about a cat that walked shadow roads.
"Well...I hope you don't turn out to be a seriel killer," She says, trying to be funny and offering up a lopsided smile. Then she takes a deep breath and steps through the portal, cringing slightly as she does.

Shadowlite has posed:
"It's safe. As long as I'm focusing on getting you through, you'll make it." Shadowlite assures her, before he steps on through himself.
