Tacos and Snow
Date of Scene: 04 January 2018
Location: Xavier's School, Westchester, New York
Synopsis: A bunch of mutants meet for tacos. Talks are had, and Quentin gets a new project.
Cast of Characters: Kid Omega, Rift, Arc, Glacier

Kid Omega has posed:
If there was a bright centre to the universe, Salem Center was the furthest point from it. Still, Quentin Quire still found himself being dragged back here, mostly because of Xavier's. Not because he was a student, he'd been there, done that, started a riot, got the t-shirt and got expelled, but because the school held his audience: mutant youth. Held hostage and indoctrinated into Xavier's dream of human-mutant friendship. So, Quentin made the odd trip to try to break a few chains and free a few minds, but not today. Today he was here on business, putting up posters for the club he was opening in Mutant Town, and, now that it was past lunch, hitting up a rogue taco truck that had set itself up in Apple Park by the skating rink.

The magenta mohawked mutant, slouches at one end of the truck, tacos in one hand, posters in the other as he scarfs down a quick lunch, his eyes behind his thick rimmed glasses scanning his surroundings idly, looking for opportunities for a little bit of fun before he made his way back to the city.

Rift has posed:
Generally, when Rift uses her gravity powers to travel, she flies or portals. She has another options - she can do a gravity slide at impressive speeds - with a foot of snow on the ground, it's like she's skiing, even though the ground is flat. She's wearing typical skiing clothes - though they're washed out by her aura so it's hard to tell just waht she's wearing - and you can still see that eerie glow inside her arms, legs, chest, and head. She is homing in on a taco truck as she screeches to a stop nearby behind a tree as she looks around, before deciding to raid the truck. She then squints, seeing a magenta mohawk. Quentin? It's been a while since she last saw him - last was when he was expelled from Xavier's. She doesn't think she ever actually talked to him.

Arc has posed:
There are some perks to attending the school. THose perks lend themselves to warmer clothing in this case. A foot of snow already on the ground and it don't look like its gonna be stopping. This also means that its COLD!

Rikki is hungry. She's not eaten near enough today and whats worse, she's got a craving for some mexican food. Rumor was there was a taco truck not far away. So. Quietly she steps outside. She's wearing an Xavier's sweater and sweat pants as well as a pair of sneakers. Then, with no warning. Lightning errupts around her as she takes off running towards the skating rink.

One slight problem. Its snowing. Its snowing and she's blinding fast. She sees the taco truck and tries to stop. She goes sliding and loses her footing. She hits the ground rolling for the next 2 blocks.

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell steps in from the north, stepping cautiously with a nervous glance about. She's not wearing much, certainly not enough for the snow, with just a baggy tank top and skinny jeans accentuating her already thin frame. She doesn't even have shoes, despite the snow, and seems to be pale, as if she's been out in the snow way, way too long. She's not shivering, though, so she's either already dead (which seems unlikely), or simply comfortable in subzero temperatures.

A sudden burst of lightning catches her eye from the park. She picks up her pace and stares over, but doesn't see any giant monster or supervillain blowing anything up, so she slows her approach, feet crunching the snow beneath her.

Kid Omega has posed:
Kitora's sudden arrival earns an arched brow from Quentin. He remembered her from school, she was right, they never spoke but Quentin had a way of remembering everyone, the facts he'd gleaned about their lives organized into little mental dossiers in his brain. Kitora Alua aka Rift, gravity powers, emotional, likes food.

Quentin swallows down the last of his taco and lifts a hand in greeting. "Hey, Kitora, long time no see," meanwhile other parts of his brain, the ones not running Omega City or working on some details for his club slide a suggestion into taco guy's brain that Kitora had already paid for her food.

Then there's something rocketing towards them rolling in the snow. "Crap," he says lifting himself up above ground level with telekinesis to avoid whatever it was coming his way.

Maya isn't noticed yet what with the rolling Rikki to contend with.

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua sighs as she turns off her aura of power, immediately shivering as she feels the cold again - but it's the price necessary to ensure that she's not chased away for being a freak. Without her aura, she looks relatively normal - with it, she looks extremely mutant. She shrugs as she trudges up to the taco stand and orders a dozen tacos, with the works (except cilantro and guacamole). She was about to reach for her wallet when the guy mumbled about having already paid. Confused, but not about to turn down free food, she takes her plate and goes to find a spot.

Arc has posed:
A rolling stone may gather no moss, but a rolling Rikki certainly gathers a lot of snow! With a foot of snow on the ground and her catching places that haven't been plowed yet, the rookie speedster is gaining inches upon inches of snow round her body as she rolls along the street.

The good news... She's slowing down. The Bad news... She was running fast enough to not be slowing down fast enough. Finally though, she stops, not before slamming into some rich jerks Ferrari. A massive gout of snow is launched into the air and just blankets the high end sports car.

The young speedster blinks a few times as she stands up. Dizzy is the word of the day. "Ooof. Okay... Ice is not so good!" Quietly she starts moving back towards the taco truck.

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell slows to a stop a few dozen feet from Quentin and Kitora, just in time to see the latter turn her aura off. She blinks, then, "Oh! Uh, f-from New York! I, uh...w-we've met, right?" She takes a few steps toward Kitora, then glances to Quentin. "Oh, uh...a-am I interrupting anything?"

Kid Omega has posed:
"Really?" Quentin asks when Kitora takes her food and says not a word to him. "Don't even rate a hello when I paid for your food?" he asks looking at Kitora through his glasses. He doesn't seem that ticked off about it, really, more amused. "Or did Chuckles tell you guys not to talk to me anymore?"

When Rikki hits the car, Quentin snorts a laugh. "What sort of a-hole takes a car out like that in the middle of winter," he says with a shake of his head.

When Maya joins them, he gives her a studying look and shakes his head. "Nope. Just lunch. Treating everyone today. I am generous like that."

Poor taco guy, for whatever reason he just has the idea that he should give these nice ladies some free food. You know, ring in the New Year and all of that.

Then to Rikki and Maya he adds, "I'm Quentin Quire by the way."

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua blinks. "You did that?" she asks, frowning at Quentin. "Abusing your powers like that is probably why you got kicked out," she mutters. "Think of how this will affect the truck owner when he finds out that he gave a bunch of free food - it'll eat into his profits." She goes back to the counter and says there's a mistake, and does pay for her food, then returns to her seat, shooting a dirty look QUentin's way.

Arc has posed:
Rikki makes her way closer and then races around in circles for a few moments to dry off. "There better. Needed that. Yuck! hate being wet in the cold!" She moves up to the food truck and sets down her card. "I'll take 20." She smiles and just turns away, letting the guy work.

Her attention goes to the man who addressed her, "Hello Quentin, My name is Rikki. Rikki Riley. Speedster, Orphan, and destroyer of Ferraris apparently." She gives a smile and a wave to Kitora and then a smile to Maya. "Nice to meet you as well. Sorry. Didn't mean to freak anyone out. I just didn't wanna be too cold you know?"

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell blinks to Quentin as he answers her question. "Wh-No, I-I was talking to her." She nods toward Kitora. "I just don't think I got her name." She looks between the pair, then slowly steps around them and over to Rikki. As she does, the air seems to chill even further around her. Her eyes drop to Rikki's sweater. "Xavier's school? Do you, uh...go there? I-I just...er, enrolled, I guess."

Kid Omega has posed:
A smug smile plays across Quentin's lips. "You say abuse, I say use. I can fly, does that mean I should send Roxxon the money I would have spent on gas every time I take a trip?" he asks, brow raised. He lived for these little arguments. "And, no, I got kicked out for starting a riot on parent's day." The smile, if possible gets even smugger.

"Heh. Your parents sound like they liked alliteration as much as mine, good to meet you Rikki," he gives a glance to the Ferrari then shrugs negligently. "His fault for parking it out in the snow."

Quenton turns to Maya, shivering a little, and pulling his jacket closer like he'd just been hit by a cold breeze despite there being now wind at all, just proximity to Maya. It doesn't take much to puzzle out the source of the sudden cold snap and step back a couple of paces. "New huh? My advice, run for it while you can. They get in your head."

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua smiles. "Hello, Maya," she states. "I'm Kitora. I heard about you joining the school. So glad you're here." She decides to ignore Quentin - not worth the argument as she inhales a taco or two. "Seems like this id your kind of weather, huh? Come sit by me. I'm bundled up enough. If necessary I'll light up again and it won't bother me at all."

Arc has posed:
Rikki gives a little smirk, "That isn't really the best of advice. I'd be on a boat to some third world country if not for the people at the school. Some jerk decided he was going to try to traffick me. Sadly he ran into some crazy powerful super guy who gave him a little ride. Also I may have gave him more then a few punches for his trouble."

She pauses and takes her tacos. "Anyway, The school is pretty cool. The people there are nice. Ms. Blair is awesome! I'm sorta one of her fans anyway. But they helped me through my first chirstmas without my family." Her attention shifts to Quentin. "Only when I'm calm." She smirks.

Then she darts over to a seat and begins devouring her tacos. Where Kitora has a Speedster like appetite, Rikki IS a speedster and she is definitely showing it. "Sorry. i've not eaten much today and I had a craving for tacos." She's already on her third one.

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell lets out a heavy sigh, breath coming out in a cloud. "Right. I'm still...uh, t-trying to form my own ideas about the place, so..." She shrugs and steps closer to Kitora to sit. "It's better than summer. If I had a sweater and shoes, people might not even notice I-I'm a mutant." She looks over to the other two. "Oh, uh...M-Maya. I just joined, like...a few days ago."

Kid Omega has posed:
"Glad you got your shots in," Quentin says of the mutant traffickers. "Were it me, I'd happily rip apart their minds. Don't suppose they're still around?" he asks hopefully. He did feel the need to put his money where his mouth is and do some good deeds. To a certain value of good. "And Xavier's has it's place, but it could be so much more, let people like the three of you do so much more. Right now, Magneto is trying to start a war, no, /the/ war, and you're all here eating tacos in the snow."

Anticipating the counter, he says, "And I know I'm right here with you, but I am here on business," he says putting one of his posters on their table. "My club is opening in a few days, in Mutant Town, a club for us, a place to have fun and organize. Come check it out. There may even be tacos on the menu," he adds the last with a smile. There wouldn't be, it clashed with the aesthetic, but that was hardly the biggest lie he'd told today.

Rift has posed:
Kitora Alua smiles faintly. "I hope to see you in class soon, Maya," she states softly, as she shoots one last dirty glare Quentin's way as she simply grabs the rest of her plate of tacos. "See you later, Rikki!" she calls as she walks off, deciding to do it 'normally' till she's out of sight.

Arc has posed:
Rikki smiles, "I'm just happy to not be the new girl anymore!" She laughs. She takes a bite out of her 8th taco... yes she's flying through them right now. Her attention shifts to Quentin. "I heard about Magneto but there is a reason why I agreed to attend a school. I don't really know a lot about my abilities. I mean I just obliterated a car I couldn't afford in 2 lifetimes! I can do a lot of damage and I know I can do more then just run around..."

She stands up gathering her own food, "Tell you what. I will catch ya back at the school, Maya. Hope you have fun!" She looks at Quentin, "I will stop by your club sometime. Also... I'm pretty sure that jerk is out of the business now. Anyhoo catch you both later." Lightning crackles and she's gone in a streak of speed.

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell blinks to Kitora, then, "Oh, uh...bye." She nods over to Rikki, too, before finally focusing on Quentin. "I'm...going to take a shot in the dark. Is he a member of a 'Brotherhood'? I-I met some guy, uh...back in Metropolis. Kind of...er, chubby, balding, wore a suit. Tried to hire me for--" She chews on her lower lip for a moment. "I-It sounded like...ah, a group of 'freedom fighters', however you want to, uh, paint it. Said we needed to...ah, kill humans, basically, if they're...going to kill us. I mean, I-I haven't had a human try to kill me yet, so I just...thought they were, ah...radicalists." She shrugs...then her posture shifts, shoulders slouching and head turned away. "Then the guy, uh...k-kind of changed? Some blue girl, um...tall, not...really wearing anything? I thought I imagined it, or something, but..." She shrugs. "Mutants."

Kid Omega has posed:
Quentin nods to Rikki, "If you want to learn how to use your powers just put me, you and an experienced speedster in the same room and I can just upload you what you need to know," Quentin says with a smile. "Anyhow, yes, visit."

Then, Rikki is gone.

Maya's stumbling questions are met with a frown and a tilt of Quentin's head. "Magneto? Yes, he founded the brotherhood, but who you met is Mystique by the sound of it, she killed the president recently," he doesn't seem too bothered by that, if anything rather pleased. "When did all this happen, the attempt to recruit you?" he asks as he shifts some snow off the table with his mind then takes a seat.

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell blinks rapidly. "Ohhh, I heard about that." She lowers her gaze and shuffles uncomfortably on her seat. "Yeah, er...th-this was just a little bit before that, I think. Maybe six months ago? Five? I-I don't know, I'm...not good with dates. S-Sounds like I dodged a bullet there..."

Kid Omega has posed:
Quentin nods, "Definitely did by my estimation," he says of Maya not joining the brotherhood. "Their hearts are in the right place, the Brotherhood, but their methods are thuggish and crude. Really, their way isn't much better than Xavier's just different. My advice is to stay clear of both, make up your own mind on how to be a mutant. Trust me, you'll be better off." He settles back. "Your way of speaking, the pauses, is that nerves?" he asks. "If so, I can probably help with that."

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell sighs and slouches a bit more at Quentin's suggestion, but stiffens up (or freezes, if you prefer the pun) at the question. "Uh, y-...yes it is, but I-I'd...I'm not sure I'm comfortable with you...rooting around in my head just yet. Look, I-I came to my own conclusion on the Brotherhood myself, I'll...do the same for Xavier. Maybe you're right. Or...m-maybe not, I don't know enough yet." She shrugs.

Kid Omega has posed:
There is a little smile playing on Quentin's lips when she freezes, given the drop of temperature around Maya it's enough for him to find that mildly amusing. "Fine. Don't take my help," he says with a shrug. "But good. That's all I ask, make up your own mind instead of letting so called 'authority figures' do it for you," yes, he even does air quotes for authority figures. "Us. The youth, we're the future, the last thing any of us need is to get caught up in the wars of the previous generation. Or well, a few generations before that, Mags and Chuckles are olllld."

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell lets a breath out her nose. "Well...just because it's a previous generation that started it doesn't mean it's...stupid. I-I mean, mutant rights are...kind of important. But, I mean, when you go back to stuff like the Vietnam War, that's...a-a lot more, uh...like, young people dying for old peoples' cause. But this is -all- of our causes." She blinks, then frowns. "All off our's cause. All of--Y-You get it." She runs a hand up her frozen forehead, brushing her bangs out of her eyes. "But I'll...keep an open mind, yeah."

Kid Omega has posed:
"I don't mean mutant rights, that war is one we need to fight. I meant more about Chuckles and Mag's decades long lovers spat over how to fight it. Just think the two of them have had their day and it's time for us to make our own choices," Quentin explains. "That's all it's ever been about with me, us mutants finding our own path."

Quentin scrubs a hand through his mohawk, now damp with snow. "But anyhow, yeah, keep your mind open, it's the best thing you can do for yourself," he says before producing a poster and handing it to Maya. "And come by the club, may not be your scene, but at least give it a look."

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell looks over the poster, then gently takes it. "Uh...right. I might do that. M-Maybe." Her eyes flit up to Quentin. "Who are...uh, Chuckles and Mags? Mag-...Oh, that Magneto? Xavier and Magneto?" She pauses for a few seconds, then, "Well...uh, Magneto's still...going to fight, even if we think the fight to figure out -how- to go about mutant rights is--I-I mean, plain and simple, uh, cold-blooded murder is wrong." She doesn't seem to notice the pun. "But he still thinks it is, and so...w-we...stop him. Right? It's not a matter of who's right or wrong anymore, but it's more...making sure he doesn't kill anymore people, yeah?"

Kid Omega has posed:
"Do it, it promises to be fun times," Quentin says before he laughs. "Yeah, Charles is Chuckles and well if you can't figure out-" but she does and he smiles. "Yeah, of course he's going to fight, that's what he's been doing forever, he's just doing it dumb. We're not at the drop trains on the White House lawn and kill presidents stage of things yet, and don't get me started on Genosha. Yeah, lets gather a ton of mutants in one spot like nuclear weapons aren't a thing. Idiot. Even if I do agree with his basic principles."

The idea of stopping Magneto though. He hadn't thought of that. "Well, last I heard he was arrested, or let himself get arrested, so I am not going to go after him, but if he gets loose, there might be something to that."

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell sighs. "Yeah, I-I don't...trust those prisons, honestly. I, ah..." Her gaze lowers again, and she rubs at an arm sheepishly. "I...may have been in Metropolis prison for...a-a week or so for something kind of minor. It's honestly kind of unbelievable how easily I could have gotten out. I mean, they were smart enough to make me shower alone, but...just a trip to the bathroom would give me enough water to, uh...bust out." She scoffs and shakes her head. "But I'm not stupid. Point is, uh, even those superprisons like Arkam are basically -known- for not holding people that want to get out badly enough, right?"

Kid Omega has posed:
Quentin seems lost in thought for a moment. Which for someone who routinely thinks about six things at once and can still hold a conversation, means he's being particularly focused on something. He peels away some attention for a moment to smile "Wait, what were you in jail for?" he asks, suddenly curious. "And ice powers right? Dumb of them to let you near water. And yeah, you make a good point they might as well install a revolving door on those places. So I guess Magneto will be out sooner or later."

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell huffs and slouches again at the question. "I...I-I'm homeless. Or, I was, until I joined Xavier's. I don't need to eat much, thanks to m-my powers...basically slowing my insides to some extent, but...I-I still need to eat, you know? Normally, I'll...loiter around some restaurant and wait for people to leave food. I'll flash-freeze it, take it home, and...there's dinner." A hand goes up to pinch at the bridge of her nose. "One night, after a...string of, uh, being shooed away, basically, I thought I could cause a distraction i-inside this...restaurant. Freeze the soda machine, it breaks, maybe sprays soda everywhere, I take some stuff and go. Nobody gets hurt, just have to clean up and replace a soda fountain." She shakes her head and moves her hand, which had migrated to her forehead, into her lap. "But, uh...i-it was some kind of different model, I guess. Screws popped off, metal started flying...A few people got hurt, and somehow, people gathered that it was me. Being covered in blankets in the middle of summer might've had something to do with it, I guess."

Kid Omega has posed:
Quentin nods, "Not a terrible plan, the distraction then going in for what you want," he says. "Works better if you can find a patsy for the distraction," he says with the tone of experience. "Well, I can understand your reluctance to leave the school if you're getting three hots, or I suppose, colds, and a cot out of them. So, do you have to flash freeze everything you eat or is that just a preference thing?"

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell winces slightly. "I, uh...can't eat hot food. Even, l-like...room temperature pizza is a bit too hot. Like, ah...eating soup when it's not quite cooled off. Not a full-on burn, but...you know. Just need to cool it off a little bit more to eat it." She smirks slightly, but it quickly fades. "I'd love to be able to eat something warm again. Tastes a -lot- different."

Kid Omega has posed:
Quentin peels off another section of concentration from 'how can I beat up Magneto' to work on, 'how do I make hot food work for someone cold'. "So it's a heat thing, like it's uncomfortable?" he asks about warm food as the gears begin to turn.

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell nods quickly. "Yeah. I mean, I'm...c-cold all the way through. So what's just kind of hot to most people would burn me. This is--I'm -comfortable- in the snow." She spreads her lanky arms out, gesturing to her surroundings. "In the summer, it's like...well, I'm a little more protected, thanks to my mutation, but...i-it's still really hot. Like, a hundred degrees to me on a just kind of hot summer day."

Kid Omega has posed:
Quenton puzzles on that for a bit twisting the problem around in his head looking for new angles. "It's an interesting problem," he admits. "I'll think on it, see if I can figure out something to do about the food. Maybe the summer too, I hate the heat."

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell chews on her bottom lip for a second, pondering internally. "Well...ah, I-I've been kind of hoping to get some kind of, like..." She chuckles and looks down sheepishly. "I've...kind of h-had this...fantasy of having some sort of...supersuit that helps me hold in the, ah, cold. Keeps me comfortable, and keeps others from getting cold. I mean, I know, that's...a ways away. I'd at least like...proper clothes. I've just got this, really."

Kid Omega has posed:
Quentin blinks owlishly behind his glasses. "What? Nobody at the school has made you one already? Idiots. That's stupid easy. I can write up some plans and send them to the school, let Beast or someone slower than me actually put the thing together. I'll work on the food thing too, because the suit's not even a challenge."

Glacier has posed:
Maya Caldwell blinks rapidly. "Wh-...A-Are you sure? I mean, I-I just got there a few days ago, Xavier's...got a school to run." She sighs. "Okay, I...I guess a suit would...uh, be appreciated, but I don't have any money." Her shoulder sag again, before she remembers something. "Oh, uh, shouldn't y-...I mean, ah, won't you...n-need my, ah...measurements?" After an awkward clear of her throat, she continues. "I'm kind of...tall and lanky, so...most clothes are either too loose, or too short."

Kid Omega has posed:
Quentin shakes his head. "I am not going to be making the thing, just coming up with the technology behind it," he explains. "I'll let the school handle the measurements and the costs. Don't worry though, I know them, they won't bill you, anything to make a mutant more comfortable. That's their way. As for too long or two short, the thing will have to be fitted to you to work so not only will it keep your cold in but it might just be more comfortable than your regular wardrobe."

Kid Omega has posed:
"Anyhow, I'll run the design by the school in a day or two, but for now," Quentin says before flashing a smile. "Stay frosty. I'm out of here." then with that Quentin gets up out of his seat, and flies off, remembering he had something to do back in the city.
