Date of Scene: 08 January 2018
Location: Classified SHIELD Location
Synopsis: Vincent visits his daughter while she is in SHIELD custody. During their visit, Director Fury offers them an opportunity.
Cast of Characters: White Phoenix, Vincent Black, Nick Fury

White Phoenix has posed:
After the initial interrogation which took hours, Hope was placed in a cell. SHIELD didn't follow the rules of normal law enforcement. They were dealing with the bigger picture. The girl in their custody fell into that category. They suspected she had not worked alone. The level of damage at the location where Magneto had escaped meant there was more than one mutant on scene. The metal damage could be explained by Magneto. Other things such as how she got through security meant that she had her own powers. Although there was no video, they suspected she had an accomplice. There had been vague reports of another woman but nothing concrete. A portion of her interrogation was aimed at finding her accomplice.
Hope never broke. She never gave up the woman who had helped her. The woman who had betrayed her. She wasn't surprised. Magneto was Wanda's father. Sometimes people couldn't do what needed to be done. In truth, Hope would never be able to turn on either of her fathers so should she have expected Wanda to bay any different. She'd hoped to achieve her goal but she had failed.
In the end, she was finally given a phone call. She did what would be expected which was call her father, Vincent Black. The call was recorded. The man was looked into. A cop in Westchester County, good recor, promoted to Detective. It was agreed that he would be allowed to visit his daughter. In doing so, they might learn more information about her plan, who helped her and all the bits of the puzzle they were missing.
Upon his arrival at the building, Vincent was secretly scanned as he signed in. The mutant gene was noted. Security was put on alert just in case but that did not keep him from being allowed into the holding area.
The room was split into two parts. The first half was for visitors, a couple of chairs to allow them to sit while talking to the prisoner in the cell. The cell itself was large but with only the necessary pieces of furniture. Chair, small desk, cot. There was a small screen that allowed her actual privacy and hid the commode, which was a bit of a luxary really. Since the security personal were not all female, they had alloted her that much. The 'wall' between the cell and the visitor area was a invisible, an energy field that would repulse anyone trying to get through with an electric shock for good measure.
Hope was behind the wall, pacing, dressed in a blue jumpsuit.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent steps into the holding room and frowns with a glisten of his eyes as he lays eyes upon his red haired adopted daughter for the first time in several weeks. Vincent fights his initial reaction to run to her and to fight the tears welling up in his eyes and instead, the grand headache that's wracking his brain, a lingering parasite attacking his head as his body continues to heal rapidly and fighting the pathogens in his head.

No, instead the cop level his brown eyes onto Hope and he places his hand upon the back of his chair and stands behind it, as if Hope was in the chair metaphysically. Vincent says no words, he doesn't speak as he keeps his eyes on the young woman he's raised and again he never wants to be appart from her, she's become so important and influential to him and his life.

White Phoenix has posed:
As he comes to a stop there, Hope settles into the chair she had set facing her side of the invisible partition. Taking her place in the chair he is behind, in some way mentally. Taking that moment of comfort from just having him there. She wants to scream, to cry, to beat on the barrier and try to get to him. It's useless. She knows it. He does as well. Instead she looks to him, her eyes bright with unshed tears. This is the closest she had come to them. Nothing SHIELD has thrown at her as seemed to ruffle the girl. She tapped in to her life in the future war that they are trying to prevent. She used the skills learned there to keep herself away from any emotional responses to their tactics.
But seeing her Daddy? She's undone. "I'm sorry," are the first words she speaks, her voice soft and low. "I couldn't tell you what I had planned." She's playing her role, making sure the monitoring devices only get the tale they want to share, not the truth. "I needed to kill Magneto and I tried. But I failed." Then she lets some truth come out though she can't give the details of how or why. Not here. Not now. "I lost my powers in the battle with him. Completely. I still scan as a mutant but I can't do anything."

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent does his best to cut her off, but it's hard to interrupt his daughter, she has certainly earned the right to reveal her heart and open up. He knows deep in his bones that she will only open up to him, and so he allows her this, let her exfoliate her mind. Vincent stays behind his chair and lifts a hand to rest on her metaphysical shoulder, but falls back down to the chair when she isn't physically there.

"Hope. You don't have to be sorry." He says as he looks to her with his intense eyes and stoic mouth. "You did your best and you're alive. That's what matters most." The detective says in that calm way only a father can, but without that hint of dissappointment most children hear when their father finds them in super jail.

White Phoenix has posed:
She reaches up a hand to her shoulder, as though his hand might be there for her to hold. Instead Hope's fingers just slip over her own shoulder and rest there. "They are convinced someone helped me. I've told them over and over that I worked alone. With telepathy, I'd made sure everyone was clear of the facility, that the cameras were off and no way they could know what was happening until too late." The story again, not the truth. Others would not be able to read that but her father knows her better than anyone. Vincent can tell the difference between what is tale and what is truth when the words come from his daughter's lips.
"Magneto got away. If I ever get out of here, I'm going after him again." Simple. Blunt. There is no apology for her part in the escape, only that she failed in her mission. "I..." She drops her gaze then looks back up at Vincent's face. "I've missed you, Daddy. Are you alright?"

Vincent Black has posed:
"That's alright Hope." Vincent replys with that half cocked smirk he uses just for Hope, she'll know he's okay but has been busy based solely on that facial expression. Then his headache flairs and his hands don't move, but they do squeeze onto the back of the chair and his nose slowly begins to run, a small trail of blood slips down onto his lip.

His hand finally moves as he lifts up to brush the blood away with his finger tip and smears the blood against the crook of his lip that draws a frown across his lips and he closes his eyes tightly from the pain, but mostly because he knows Hope is going to go nuts over this.

White Phoenix has posed:
There is a sudden slamming sound, a chair overturned as she abruptly flings herself forward to try and help her father. Hope stops just shy of hitting that barrier wall, her brow furrowed, worry readily apparent. "Daddy?!" She has seen him come back from the edge of death so many times. In all of them, she has never seen him have a nosebleed. Ever. "What's going on? What's wrong?" She looks frantically toward the camera she knows is nearby. "Let me out! He needs me!"
    Nothing happens.
She turns to look at him again, her fist coming up and punching at that invisible barrier. It is pushed back with equal force by the repulsor technology, an arch of electricity zapping her. She doesn't seem to notice as she punches it again.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent's other hand snaps up at Hope, demanding that she stops hurting herself to get at him and he looks down at the red on his finger tip with his other hand. He reaches into his jacket and pulls out a small napkin he had tucked away as it seems he was prepared for this and presses it to his nose.

"I'm fine." He says from underneath the piece of paper held to his nostrils. "I went to the midwest yesterday, and ran into this child who mutated in the most unfortunate way." The old detective says as he lowers his extended hand as he makes sure Hope sits back down and stops hurting herself.

White Phoenix has posed:
Strangely, him holding up that single hand stops her in her tracks. Such is the power he has over his daughter. Hope stays her hand shy of the barrier, watching him closely. The trauma in seeing him this way is obvious. To anyone on the outside, it likely seems an overreaction. But they don't know what she's seen him just walk away from. This is serious. Frightening.
She follows his order. Picking up the chair, she places it back where it had been and sits, green eyes refusing to leave him for more than a second or two. "Midwest? How? Why?"

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent pulls the napkin away from his nose after a few moments, knowing his body has already healed that again, and more of the pathogens have been cured and he's back to being okay, for now. Though he is getting annoyed at how long it's taking to cure this kid's bio-disease. "I was hand picked by someone to go out and help this kid who like I said, had an unfortunate mutation." Vincent then pauses and puts the napkin back into his jacket, yeah it's a bit gross, but he's never concerned about that.

"Several dead, I never got a full count on how many people got hurt because of this mutation." He says, knowing that SHIELD could likely track his whereabouts based on that much info and realize that the news could really fuel anti-mutant sentiments so he doesn't go deeper into the events. "I was the only one who could approach the kid." For obvious reasons.

White Phoenix has posed:
Hope realizes what that means. Someone knew about him. About the nature of his mutation. They knew he was able to heal and they chose him. That sets off a lot more warning bells in her head as she looks over him. He's put away the napkin. He's healed. The fact it wasn't already fixed lets her know just how bad it was. "I...see." She isn't sure she likes the sound of this mutatation. But her mind goes to her training, to the reality of their lives in the past. Future. Past for them, future for everyone else. At least some future, if not the one for this world. Things get confusing if she thinks about that too much.
"Is the kid okay?" She didn't hurt anyone when her powers manifested fully the first time, yet she was very traumatized by it. She's sure the kid isn't okay mentally. Physically, could be another story. He may have needed to be eliminated to get rid of the threat, something she understands and accepts as she looks her father in the eye.

Nick Fury has posed:
The crackle of a speaker sounds in the room, shocking both people with it's suddenness. A disembodied voice echoes in the room ominiously, as though coming from somewhere else entirely. The voice has a deep timbre, a voice that was unmistakable and unique. The voice of the Director of SHIELD.

"You know, you two make for an interesting conumndrum. Right now, I have a a few things that are incredibly troubling, and you two may be a solution." A slight pause. "One, I have a time travelling detective, who is also a mutant, speaking to someone in DEEEEEPP trouble. In my building."

There was another pause, as though the man was considering what to say next. "The second...conundrum, is I have an unknown mutant, another time traveller, that just caused me no ends of problems with her participation in helping to release the World's Most Wanted." A sigh. "Now, how do you think I could fix such a problem?"

The crackle of a speaker being turned up sounds in the room. TAP, TAP. "Yeah, this thing is on." Another pause. "So what am I going to do with you...both of you?"

Vincent Black has posed:
"I'm not sure if he's okay or not... I was not allowed to know where the child was taken to, but I was assured he would be safe, and others would be safe." The man says explaining all he really knows about the situation. "I assume it's something like Xavier's but it's not, I was promised it wasn't a place I know about." Vincent says with a soft sigh, his hand moving back to the back of his chair that he's still isn't sitting on. He's more comfortable standing.

Vincent's head snaps up next towards the sound of the speaker and squints his eyes in the direction of the sounds, and he is about to speak when Hope interjects --

White Phoenix has posed:
"Let me out of here so I can go to my father!" Hope has a bit of a one track mind when it comes to her father. She's not going to believe he's okay until she can examine him personally. Anyone else in Super Jail might be less inclined to boss around the voice in the sky. But this is Hope. She's been taught by two militaristic fathers to say what she thinks and give orders when necessary. Right now, she feels it is necessary.
Not likely to happen but she's going at least try it as she looks at the closest camera, a bit of a glare.
"You have a lot of theories and a whole lot of no proof," she says flatly, her mind wheeling as she tries to figure this one out. How does he know they are time travellers? SHIELD is just plain freaky and she's hiding her fears behind bravado. "Magneto wasn't your most wanted. Everything went silent after you took him into custody. My guess? You had your beliefs but no proof. So in the end, he would've walked anyway. Likely returned to continue being in charge of an entire nation of mutants he can manipulate into doing his bidding. There will be a war between humans and mutants. Make no mistake about it."
She weighs options and forges ahead, trusting her instincts. "We know. We've lived through it. We know what will happen and we can help stop it. We will do what you can't with all your laws and regulations! I will get out of here someday and when I do, we will do what has to be done."

Nick Fury has posed:
A long pause as the shock of being spoken to by someone outside the room passes the two inside the room. Then the voice speaks again, ignoring the responses he got - the brief one from Vincent and the longer one from Hope. Only he could see them right now. They couldn't see him. But it was obvious where he was.

"Gas is one option. After Hydra made a mess of things in here last time, I had some interesting things installed throughout the building. Although I am sure you two could handle a little gas right?" TAP, TAP. Loud!

"Two, make you both disappear. Now, that would be no fun, as I am sure you could take down MOST of my Agents. Although a few may surprise you. Hmmmm..." Fury's voice got deeper, and deeper as though considering something. "I could ask you both, nice and polite like, to come and work for me. I am SURE that several Agents would NOT like that at all. So, see, conundrum #3." Fury pauses again, and considers.

"Now stay with me here. Here comes the interesting part. Ah'm sure you'll appreciate this..." Another pause. "War is coming Hope. You are absolutely right. Now, on my side, I need people...people with abilities, to be able to prevent things like that. A kind of "X Force" so to speak." Fury pauses. "And I want you two to be a part of it. Covert. Off the books. Beholden only to me. What do you think?"

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent takes a single hand off the back of the chair as he turns towards the hidden speaker and then with a glance towards Hope, Vincent keeps thinking about these options as they are levelled towards the two mutants. The self healer then turns his attention back towards Hope and nods once towards her. Meaning he's in agreement with her before she's even spoken, but he allows her to decide as she's the youthful one, she's the one meant to change things. Vincent's not, as he hasn't before, and he likely one. She's the chosen one, so ... she gets to choose.

White Phoenix has posed:
The options the voice goes through have Hope feeling terror. Gas. Vincent would likely survive. Without being able to mirror his powers, she would not. Making them disappear is the same. She knows that the voice is exaggerating. They wouldn't be able to take out most of the agents. A few certainly but there were some high level people in SHIELD. She had no doubts she and her father would fall if it came down to it.
At the mention of coming to work for him, Hope's eyebrows lift in surprise. That was not something she would've expected in a million years. And the man is correct, they would always be having to watch their backs if they did it. Not that she's going to be constrained by rules so it wouldn't really be much of a choice. To have to shackle themselves with policies and bureacracy.
So when the offer comes, she almost falls out of her chair. Covert. Dealing with threats the way they knew how already. "You...want us to help fight other mutants who are going to cause the war?" she asks carefully. "To stop them before they have the chance?"

Nick Fury has posed:
Behind the barrier, Fury's eye scans both people. There is a nod, although they can't see, and Fury makes the call.

"Yes. Before they have the chance...to end things. I will let you think about that. It would be dangerous, and you would have little to no support, except for what I could give you."

Fury pauses, and adds, "The World is changing and we need to adapt to that change. If you think this may be a good chance to prevent things from falling off a cliff...then we have something here." The speaker crackles suddenly, and then there is the voice again. "I will be in touch."

With that, the speaker shuts off, and the room is filled with silence once more. Fury was gone.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent looks back to Hope. "You always wanted to make a real difference." The self healer says as he steps around the chair and closer to the wall to put his hand up to it, he's willing to suffer the pain to be even an inch from Hope. "Let's make a difference." The man says softly, waiting for the wall to zap him and push him away from the invisible barrier.

White Phoenix has posed:
As the speaker clicks off, Hope looks at Vincent for a long moment. Then she rises, walking toward the barrier as he comes to a stop before it. He raises his hand. She doesn't want him to be hurt but she understands the need. Bringing her hand up, she positions it directly in front of his. Then she pushes her hand forward, willing to take that shock to get closer.
Only there is no shock. No barrier stops their hands.
Hope's palm meets her father's, fingers lined up with his. She gasps softly, curling her fingers to twine with his then flinging herself forward to hug him.

Vincent Black has posed:
Still holding onto her hand, Vincent uses his thick arm to pull her close to him and with his free hand he wraps it around the girl's shoulders and holds her to his chest and clings onto her like it's the first time holding his daughter or his last time. He doesn't want to let go but he whispers. "We have to hurry Hope." The man says, taking off his Carhartt to put it on the smaller woman and then he moves towards the doorway to worry about slipping out as quickly as possible, though he's certain the Voice will make sure they're cleared to get outside.
