Cast of Characters: Melinda May, Nick Fury

Melinda May has posed:
May knew this was coming. After the hash she and Clint made of Madripoor, she's fully been expecting Fury to pull her into his office for a 'chat'. She's had her fair share of 'chats' in the past and this will be no exception.

She knocks on the door to the Director's office and waits. She knows he's expecting her just about ... now, so she shouldn't have to wait very long unless it's Fury's intention to let her stew for a bit. He should know by now that that doens't work on her.

Nick Fury has posed:
There was a lot going on at SHIELD right now, with Fury in the middle of most of it as always. With Skye, Magneto, the Summers situation, and several other items on his agenda, from Stark to the Avengers, to the situation with Alpha Flight, SHIELD had their hands full. Which meant, Fury was busy.

Currently located in his office, Fury is going over the latest intelligence from...well, the person that his visitor probably wanted to discuss. "Come in Agent May." Fury says through the doors, only having to raise his voice slightly for the system to pick up his security release, allowing her to enter.

Melinda May has posed:
May steps briskly into the office and closes the door behind herself quietly before moving to stand in front of his desk as is her usual MO. She's fully aware of exactly how much the Director has on his plate at any given moment, so she doesn't start speaking first. He'll talk at her when he's ready.

In the meantime, she starts thinking aobut other 'errands' she'll need to run, like making another trip down to Gotham to cancel the 'detain and notify' request she'd put in with the bat types there for Skye. If the kid's traipsing about overseas, there's not point in having the Bat and the baby bats on the lookout for her.

Nick Fury has posed:
Fury goes through a few last minute orders, taps them into the console, and finishes off his approval for a covert op in the south pacific. Then, without a pause, he stops and puts down his work. Looking up from the several data pads on his desk, Fury regards May thoughtfully.

"Go ahead Agent May. I am sure I know exactly why you are here, so let's get directly to it." Fury leans back and waits for May to begin.

Melinda May has posed:
Yup. Classic Fury. May puts her mind back on the matter at hand and starts with, "The cilivian injury in Madripoor. That one's on me. I should have checked the hotel manager for a firearm, and I didn't." She's also mentally taking the blame for Clint getting shot (again) because of that. She also takes his leaning back as invitation to claim one of the other chairs in his office, and sits on the egde of the seat.

"There's also the microSD card that Clint found in the phone Skye left behind. Clint was able to unlock it. That can't be a coincidence, and I know Skye is not that sloppy. It was intentional."

Nick Fury has posed:
"I understand Agent May. You feel responsible, however, no one is to blame. Things happen. I understand you feel you are responsible for Madripoor, but it was out of your control. We can't all be psychics like some of the mutants out there." Fury says, dismissing her self-recriminations. As though reading her thoughts, Fury adds, "And no, Clint is also not your responsibilitiy. He just gets shot a lot."

Then, the conversation changes as May finally takes a seat. Good, she picked up on the body language. With a shrug, Fury says, "Maybe it was intentional. Maybe it wasn't. Fury looks around the office, and then at her. "I believe we should all trust our instincts, and be cognizant of what may be occurring even as we speak." Lots of code in there. In his words and body language, that any mikes would not pick up. She was good. She would get it.

Melinda May has posed:
Responsibility or not, May is going to continue doing what she can to make sure Clint isn't a complete mess all the time until this whole mess with Skye is recolved one way or another. She's had suspicions since Madripoor, and she's pretty sure Fury is confirming them for her now.

She raises an eyebrow at Fury's clearly coded response, her own way of saying she has heard and understood. And then, for the ears that are always everywhere she says aloud, "Understood, sir. I'll continue working this. Permission to head into Gotham again to speak with a contact there." She hasn't moved from her seat, though, so she's letting Fury decide when this discussion is over.

Nick Fury has posed:
Fury did confirm her suspicions. "Permission granted Agent May. You have my full support. I also want to thank you for looking after this whole Agent Johnson situation as the Case Officer. This is a troubling time for all of us. A lot of good people are in danger, and I hope everyone comes out of this intact." Including Skye. Fury nods, and leans forward.

"Be careful in Gotham. There may be...rogue elements that could make the situation tenuous at best." Fury then returns to his position in the chair. "If you need me, or anyone else to help you, we can be there." With a nod, and if May is finished, that would be all.

Melinda May has posed:
May nods. Message received and understood. "I'll do my best, Director. And I'm always careful in Gotham. But I'll keep that in mind." She stands and heads for the door, pausing just before exiting.

"Oh, one last thing. You owe me a bottle of bourbon when this is all said and done." Then, without an explanation as to why, she's out of the office and gone.
