Date of Scene: 19 February 2018
Location: Vernon - Park Ridge
Synopsis: Lar attempts the V-day thing with Kara.
Cast of Characters: Mon-El, Supergirl

Mon-El has posed:
After having received some...advice from Drake about this whole 'Valentine's Day' thing, Lar has decided to go ahead and make an attempt at celebrating it with Kara. First, he did what research he could on this 'strawberry ice cream' thing, and found that a business called the Coldstone Creamery that seemed to sell it. So it was agreed upon to meet at a Coldstone in Metropolis. Then he worked on finding out where to buy flowers. Only that didn't work out quite so well, because they kept breaking. After about the third vase that had shattered, he decided to just go ahead ahead without them, because he was running out of time.

Supergirl has posed:
Kara got dressed up, the Kryptonian in a pretty blue shirtdress with a pleated skirt and a jean jacket with flats. She adjusts her glasses looking about for Lar. She blows out a soft breath, tucking her hands in her pockets and checking the time. She was early, over thinking the whole date thing.

Mon-El has posed:
And of course, since Kara is early, Lar is late. Because, again, of the whole failed attempt at flowers business. He knew the time was coming, but maybe he could squeeze in -one- last attempt. Maybe without a vase. Just some paper wrapping instead. This time, he managed to make it -almost- to the door with them, but because he was moving too fast, knowing he was almost late, he noticed when he arrived that all the stems just kind of...snapped off in the rushing air. Grife. Well...so much for those. He just kind of dumps the ruined arrangement into a garbage can outside the restaurant and comes inside.

"Hey, Kara! Um, sorry I'm a little late." He quickly orders a generous portion of strawberry sundae for Kara and tells the staff to order whatever for himself.

Supergirl has posed:
Smiling, Kara links her fingers in front of herself. "Hi Lar." She greets and steps closer to him as they order. The strawberry sundae keeps a smile on her face. "You remembered. Maybe you should start with a classic banana split. It has a bit of everything so you can work out what you like." She suggests with a little shift side to side, making her skirt swish.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar nods. "Sure, uh. Yeah I'll take that." he says, glancing at the restaurant staff, who quickly get to work on preparing the desserts. Then he goes to sit down at a booth since the workers intend to bring the food out to them. "You look beautiful tonight...I mean, you always do, but I think that....I think that outfit looks really good on you." he compliments.

Supergirl has posed:
"Thank you. I wanted to wear something cute." Kara murmurs and sits across from Lar. She puts her hands on the table, palms up while they wait for their ice cream. "I hope you enjoy ice cream, it's such a great treat, it's like the best thing ever, and we can eat so much because we basically can't get fat here."

Mon-El has posed:
"Yeah, it's definitely very cute!" Lar replies enthusiastically. "At least, I think it is. I don't know the first thing about Terran fashion, but I seriously think anything would look amazing on you."

A staff member then brings the ice cream out and sets them down appropriately. Lar peers across the table at Kara, considering her last comment about getting fat. Even what he does remember of Daxam is somewhat...clouded. Then he glances down at his own dish, then at her, as if waiting for her to start eating first. Well mainly to see how she eats it so he can copy her and eat it in whatever way it's supposed to be eaten.

Supergirl has posed:
Picking up a spoon, Kara gets a bit of everything on one bite. She digs in happily, wiggling side to side in delight over the sweet, crisp taste of strawberry ice cream with whipped cream and fresh strawberries drizzled with chocolate. She gets a second and third bite before nodding to Lar to try his.

Mon-El has posed:
At the encouragement, Lar finally digs in, trying to emulate the way Kara is eating hers by picking up a piece of everything that's on the dish. He nods after the first bite. "So this is ice cream. Nice. Cold, as expected. But good!" he grins. "Very sweet. I can tell why it's called that. It's definitely very creamy."

Supergirl has posed:
Chuckling, Kara nods. "It's up there with dumplings. Also pizza, and tacos. Ooooh. You'll love tacos." She tells Lar and watches him try his banana split. "Have you had coffee yet? Coffee is so magical, I think you'd like it if you haven't tried it yet."

Mon-El has posed:
"Dumplings, oh yeah. Those things we had at uh, 'Duck Soup' I think it was called. Yeah, those were pretty good. Tacos? Oh, what are those like?" he asks, taking another bite of the banana split. But he frowns a little at the mention of coffee being magical. "Um, I don't know about that, Kara. I think I should probably stay away from magic as much as possible. Given the last time I was under its influence things got wrecked and people almost got killed." he sighs.

Supergirl has posed:
"Oh-no. It's a turn of phrase, it means really good, or wonderful." Kara explains and considers how to explain tacos as she takes bite after bite with a happy sigh. "Mmmmn. So, tacos are like...cooked meat and this spicy salsa with shredded...lettuce maybe in a folded bread called a tortilla, oh Rao, it's...really really flavorful and tasty." She tells Lar and sets her hand on the table again.

Mon-El has posed:
"Oh." Lar says, still frowning thoughtfully. "Why is magic automatically associated with something good? I mean, maybe I'm just biased, but I've never really seen anything good come out of it except using it to get rid of itself." he chuckles.

He listens to her description of tacos, tilting his head slightly. "Ookay. I got meat and bread. And spicy. Guess I'll have to try it sometime."

Supergirl has posed:
"We will." Kara nods in agreement. She lets her hand rest on the table a moment longer and drops it to her lap. She focuses on her ice cream and considers magic. "Humans like magic, I think they find it fascinating, it has been around longer than super heroes and the like. Most meta humans were likely designated as magical before science advanced here. Earth is still primitive compared to Krypton, probably Daxom too."

Mon-El has posed:
"Heh, yeah." Lar nods, chuckling a little. "It kind of is. I mean, it is. And apparently they do." he says in regard to humans liking magic. "I guess I don't like it just because it's among some of the only things I'm not immune to."

He shakes his head. "You know that bar down the street, that's the first place I went after I woke up not remembering anything. I made a real mess of the place. I didn't know a word of what anyone was saying...I think I told you about this."

Supergirl has posed:
"Hmmm. Magic is bothersome like that." Kara agrees and picks up a slice of strawberry with her fingers and popping it in her mouth as she studies Lar with a smile. "Don't worry, we'll get you settled so you don't get into quite so much trouble."

Mon-El has posed:
"Thanks Kara, I--really appreciate it. Everything you've done for me. I uh..." Lar shakes his head, glancing down at the table for a second. "I never could have imagined that a Kryptonian would actually be--I mean, that you'd actually talk to me like this. I'm probably doing everything all wrong, but to be honest, I've never had..." he pauses, not quite sure how to explain it.

"...on Daxam, every girl I met tried to get me in bed with her--they were always chasing after me, but only because I was heir to the throne. And physically attractive, I guess. So what I suppose I'm trying to say, is...that...I've never had anything like -this- before."

The banana split is about a quarter eaten, and has begun to turn into somewhat of a melted lump. Some droplets of liquid ice cream are dribbling onto the table around the dish.

Supergirl has posed:
"Oh! Don't let it run!" Kara smiles and leans over, scooping up the melted parts and taking bites. "Mmmmn. There, bought you time." She tells Lar with a laugh. "You've never had a girlfriend? I'm sorry. That must be lonely after a while." She looks at him and puts her hand back on the table. "Here, we can hold hands, since you only need one to eat." She explains and wiggles her fingers.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar glances abruptly down at the sundae when Kara brings his attention to it. "Er--oh! Sorry. I...forgot." He sticks the spoon back into it, but it's so watery now that this just kind of makes it worse, causing more of the half-melted ice cream to glob onto the table. He laughs, shaking his head. "I knew I would be terrible at this."

He shrugs at the comment about being lonely. "Lonely? Hm, I don't know. I just know I always thought that's how it was supposed to be and that's how it was for everyone all the time." But he does takes her hand on the table. "Uhm...happy Valentine's Day, I guess."

Supergirl has posed:
"Happy Valentine's day." Kara says and shakes her head as he makes a mess. "Well, it's a start. Now you've had ice cream. We can cross that off the list." She murmurs and traces her thumb along the side of his hand idly, fingers laced with his.

Mon-El has posed:
"I look like an idiot, don't I?" Lar chuckles. "Drake said I should get you some flowers, which I tried, but I broke three vases before I gave up on the containers, but then the plants themselves broke while I was flying so I just gave up on that altogether." he sighs. "Well you probably saw me outside, anyway didn't you?"

Supergirl has posed:
"Its not...dating on Earth is more complicated is all." Kara shrugs and studies their laced hands. "Flowers were thoughtful, but they don't handle flying well. I appreciate the thought though. Honestly. Flowers are lovely but totally not required. I am just happy to go out on dates like this and be near."

Mon-El has posed:
"Good," Lar laughs. "I'm glad they weren't a requirement because then I would've been in deep trouble!" he jokes.

Then he just sort of sits there, listening to her voice and gazing into her eyes with a distant yet content look on his face, as if transfixed. "..."

Supergirl has posed:
Looking up at Lar, Kara flushes. "What?" She asks, embarrassed. She squeezes his hand before letting go to adjust her glasses and tuck her hair behind her ears. She looks back up at him over the rims, meeting his eyes.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar doesn't respond to the question immediately, continuing to gaze at her for a few seconds. Then he suddenly snaps out of it. "Oh--uh-I-I-" He stammers. "Nothing, I just..." His face flushes as bright as hers. "I was just thinking." he finishes finally. About how amazing she is. "I'm...glad we got to spend tonight together. Everything has been so chaotic lately, it was nice to relax for a little bit at least."

Supergirl has posed:
"Oh. Yeah. It is nice. I know you have a lot on your plate. I'm glad you're still hanging out with Drake. It's a huge relief you have each other." Kara tells Lar. "I should drop in on the Titans...it's been a while, now that I think about it. I've been trying to keep up with my peers in the Justice League, and that whole human life thing." She shakes her head a bit. "It's a challenge. But ice cream with you is totally worth it." She nods and settles back in her seat to study him.

Mon-El has posed:
"Yeah, no small thanks to you, Kara." Lar says truthfully. "I don't think I would still be talking to him if it hadn't been for you." He glances uncertainly at the ice cream dish which is even more melted by now at the 'plate' comment. "Uh, yeah. Don't worry, it's not that I don't like it, it's definitely very tasty. I'm just--distracted I guess."

Supergirl has posed:
"Oh, well, if you're done eating we could walk it off?" Kara offers. Her own sundae is destroyed, the cup nearly spotless. She starts to rise, offering her hand to Lar. "Sounds like a quiet day, and I bet Powergirl is on patrol, so we don't have to worry about responding to calls." She points out.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar nods and stands up, taking her hand. "Oh, I'm sure it's no quieter than any other day. But...Power Girl is probably better qualified to handle most of those things than I am." he sighs. "I...tend to just end up making an even bigger mess of things than before, a lot of times." he admits with a little sigh.

Supergirl has posed:
"It will get easier Lar. You just need to practice and have some patience." Kara says, not for the first time. She holds Lar's hand and looks up at him cheerfully. "She's pretty good. She's had a few years on me. I'll get there-after all." The pair leave the ice cream shop and she bumps her shoulder against his arm as they walk.

Mon-El has posed:
"I know, I know." Lar says with a smile. "You've said as much. It's just hard living in the shadow of who I'm -supposed- to be, I suppose." he admits, walking out of the shop with her. He pauses, then asks, "When you're at home with your...human family, do you use your powers all the time or do you try to do things their way even though they know you're not one of them? I mean, just to relate to them better or anything like that?"

Supergirl has posed:
"Oh, there's a rule about no powers. I can't be Supergirl unless it's an emergency or I have permission." Kara huffs out a breath. She swings the hand holding his and smiles. "Why not stop living in your shadow? Be a new you. Start fresh, with me. Like a do-over. I'm sure Mon-El was great, but you've had new experiences and rediscovered things in different contexts...you should make the best of this do-over."

Mon-El has posed:
"Wait, seriously?" Lar laughs and does a bit of a double take. "Wow, that's pretty intense." he says, sounding a little incredulous. "Why don't they want to let you just...be yourself?"

He considers the notion of starting fresh. "Hm. I hadn't thought of it that way, I suppose. But who I was is still there whether I like it or not." he sighs. "And I do want my memories back soon...I think it's important that I know what happened in my past." Then he squeezes her hand gently. "I mean--not that I don't want to be with you. I do. I love you, and nothing will ever change that."

Supergirl has posed:
Kara shrugs at the house rules but nods. "I know. I'd be restless if I forgot my past, forgot Krypton." She smiles a bit at his words and presses her forehead to his arm to hide her blush. "You're ridiculous." She murmurs, holding his hand a little tighter.

Mon-El has posed:
"What?! How is that ridiculous?" Lar asks, raising a brow at her, yet laughing a little at the same time. "It'd be ridiculous for someone -not- to love you." he insists, pulling her in closer.

Supergirl has posed:
"It just is, you could be with anyone." Kara points out and lets herself be pulled closer, leaning into Lar. She fusses with her glasses, looking up at him. "You don't need to waste time on a scruffy nerf herder like me." She tells him in a soft voice, looking into his eyes and trailing off in her reasons why there are better girls.

Mon-El has posed:
"Stop iiit..." Lar whines as she starts self-deprecating. "I could say the same about you! You're beautiful in so many ways. But most of all, in the -important- ways. Why would you even come close to believing that some bratty Daxamite royalty could be more than what his people had a reputation for being, a bunch of selfish hedonists? Besides, I don't even know what 'nerf herder' means." he laughs.

Supergirl has posed:
"Remind me to show you Star Wars." Kara murmurs and smiles up at him. "And to be fair, I did think you were a bratty, entitled prince at first." She admits and rubs her fingers along Lar's arms lightly. "But I got to know you a little better. You're impulsive and wild, but I think you have a good heart, and you genuinely care for the friends you make."

Mon-El has posed:
"Star Wars huh? Sounds exciting." Lar chuckles.

"Yeah? Well, I thought you were a racist, self-righteous Kryptonian hypocrite who would always have some kind of superiority complex against Daxamites so there wasn't a chance in the galaxy you'd ever even let me get close to you." he admits. "I thought maybe that day at that ice thing, you were just putting on a show for the Terrans so that you could maintain some kind of a reputation with them." He puts an arm around her back as she rubs his arm. "But then, I got to find out that you were kind -all- the time, not just in front of others."

Supergirl has posed:
"Well, it might shock you to know that we aren't all snobs...weren't I mean." Her brows knit together and she presses her cheek to Lar's chest with a soft sigh. "I still forget sometimes, our planets might have been different but still, when we're together it's less painful to think about home." Kara tells Lar and wraps her arms about him in a tight hug.

Mon-El has posed:
"It did shock me, to be honest." Lar replies, nodding. "I could hardly believe it when you actually started opening up to me."

They come to a particularly nice view at a local park--standing on a bridge across a large, iced-over pond with the moon lighting the surface from above. He stops in the middle of the bridge, pulling her in to return that hug. "I know," he says quietly. "I know." He stays in that position, arms locked around her, for a long time.

Supergirl has posed:
"I love you too Lar, a little bit. I'm glad you ended up on Earth like me." Kara murmurs, content to just stand there in the park and hold onto him. She breathes in, taking comfort in his presence until it's time to walk home.
