Cast of Characters: Phoenix, Emma Frost

Phoenix has posed:
It's not everyday that Jean Grey, second to Xavier in his School for Gifted Youngsters, gets asked to hold a meeting with a woman who is generally seen as a business icon, particularly for being a rare successful woman in the field, wants to all of a sudden deal with education. Sure there was some connection with the Academy of Tomorrow, but who knows just how much of it was hands on, and how much was another venture. That aside, Xavier's was not your everyday school.

Still, the premise was exciting and interesting enough for Jean to agree to the meeting, and she's waiting in her office, dressed in a red business suit with matching heels. When Emma arrives at the school, she's shown to Jean's office.

When Emma enters, Jean gets up from behind her desk and extends her hand towards the woman, "Ms. Frost, I'm Jean Grey, Vice Principal at the school, a pleasure to have you here...I must admit I was taken off guard when I was told you wanted to talk about a business proposition. But I'm all ears, what is this about?"

Emma Frost has posed:
It still rankled, losing the Academy. Who, just *who* draws to an inside straight like that? Worse, now she'd have to fend off that little rodent, Nigel, in order to fulfil her bargain, and to have any hope of ever getting her beloved school back.

Of course, that was down on the list of priorities at the moment. At the moment there was the matter of the small handful of students she'd handpicked from the Academy's start, and how to ensure their education continued in a fashion suited to their abilities. Or, more to the point, suited to Emma's satisfaction of such. Though her real concern was Julian Keller. The boy had potential to spare and needed a special touch. It didn't need to be hers, but without being able to keep her eyes on his education at the Academy..

Emma arrived at Xavier's on time, dressed in a white pantsuit, with a obsidian bracelet at her wrist. It didn't quite smack of colour, but it did break up the monotony.

Shown to Jean's office, Emma affects a smile for her entourage, and then, too, when Jean rises from her desk, a smile. This one much more sincere. Jean's hand taken and shaken with what one might reasonably expect from a businesswoman.

"I confess, I wasn't sure you'd see me. And less a business proposition proper, than an offer of services." She gestures to a seat. "May I?"

Phoenix has posed:
"Why wouldn't I? You're a high profile business woman, making it in a world predominantly populated with men, that's impressive. It's an honor to meet you," Jean offers warmly, as she moves back to her seat behind the desk, "please, have a sit," she acknowledges Emma's request.

Hands set on the desk, fingers touching tip to tip, Jean looks curious at Emma's words, "an offer of servies...? That I honestly didn't expect, go ahead, make your pitch..."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma shrugs in a nonchallant manner as she takes her seat. "One never knows. Reputations proceed. There's the small matter of a vying institution of education. Small things like that."

She settles in her seat, taking time to smooth out her pantsuit to prevent wrinkles. Though the possibility exists she may also be buying time, considering which version of crow to eat. After all, she was the one come begging here.

One elegant hand perches upon the handrest of her seat; the other sits curled neatly in her lap. Emma regarding the other woman before speaking. "I find myself in the unusual position of having a student, and nowhere to teach them." As far as stories spilling, it was slightly akin to watching an ice floe. Emma's jaw tensing and relaxing with betraying little twitches at the edges of her jawline, even as the rest of her remained perfectly placcid. A contradiction in terms.

Phoenix has posed:
"I heard you were involved in the Academy of Tomorrow, I didn't realize it was in an educator capacity...I thought you were an investor? Business Manager? Something more from your world...at least as advertized," Jean offers quizzically, "you are aware that if you wish to take a teaching job at this school, you will be required to teach more than your own student...who is he by the way? I assume you're interested in having him enrolled?"

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma gives something of a self-derisive chuckle. "Well, it is. But there are some whose education I do pay attention to. Something of pet projects you might say. Unfortunately, a poor business decision has left me somewhat bereft of that luxury."

The luxury of overseeing said students, which, as it happens, follows in a direct line to why she's here: to see that one student in particular gets the education he needs...

And a small matter of licking her wounds, and spending no small amount of pique by pretending she's not out of sorts at losing her beloved Academy. How could she be? Would she be offering herself as a teacher to Xavier's if the loss of the Academy of Tomorrow held any weight in her life?

"Julian Keller," Emma begins with the most salient portion. Who. "He's a telekinetic of nearly unsurpassed potential from what I can tell. He needs proper education in his powers. I can't ensure that any longer, not to my satisfaction."

Emma inclines her head. "I realize what will be required. As it is, I am likely not best suited for his skillset proper. I thought perhaps this would be a compromise we could reach."

Phoenix has posed:
"A poor business decision? Wouldn't the business part be considered your strong suit...?" Jean asks curiously, looking intently at Emma, but as the blonde begins describing Keller's ability, Jean smiles impishly, "I see you've already managed to learn the true nature of the 'gifted' part in the school's name, very savvy of you, Ms. Frost, we do try and keep it under wraps."

"Granted you accept not begrudging having to teach a whole classes, rather than a favored student, I don't see why we can't have you on board. It would add to the school's prestige, I assume you would like to officially be a Business Teacher?" Jean offers a potential role, before adding, "and I think we can see to his education when it comes to his abilities," as if to demonstrate, the drawer in Jean's desk opens of it's own volition, as a standard contract lifts in the air, turns around and shifts before landing before Emma.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma gives another of those self-effacing little shrugs. It's clear that they're something she's learned while dealing with puffed up men in business suits, just as it's equally clear that in this case she's making an admission: she's made a mistake. A huge one.

"Business is my strong suit. However, when the river card turns and gives your opponent an unexpected inside straight, there's really very little a person can do about the matter."

She smiles, then, the gesture cool, but still lighting in her eyes and settling with ease upon her lips. "Business. And.. I'm not without my own gifts. I suppose we'd be fooling one another if we weren't up front about that? I'm also quite adept when it comes to certain types of electronics. Mainly the engineering of. You're aware of some of my patents?"

Patents Frost Industries holds - which, seemingly, Emma is claiming she's responsible for some of.

Phoenix has posed:
"I'm sure you could use the experience to teach our students why gambling is bad," Jean offers with an angelic smile that just might induce in Emma the need to punch her pretty face. Not that she means to goad, but people usually don't like such stinging comments.

"I would love for you to educate me on your patents, Ms. Frost," Jean welcomes the opportunity to learn, before nodding at Emma, "in that case, let me pass you another question, what do you think of mutant's plight?"

Emma Frost has posed:
Another day, Emma might truly wish to wipe that picture perfect (and perfectly smug) little smile from Jean's face, but today isn't that day. Not only would it not serve her purposes - and Emma is nothing if not a woman without a plan, and her plan is to secure Julian a placement, and further, one that she can oversee - for the moment, Emma can see and appreciate the amusment factor of the situation... when viewed from someone else's perspective.

It's a rare moment that the woman finds herself appreciating, not otherwise calculating degress of ice to apply to the situation.

"Surely they're too young for gambling?"

Emma arches a perfectly waxed brow.

"We'll discuss patents another day, Ms. Grey. Or should I call you Jean? We never did firm that matter up. My apologies for that. As to what I think of the mutant's plight?"

Emma steeples her fingers and considers. "I don't think it befits us to follow the path of attempted domination, if that's what you're asking. Ultimately we all inhabit this planet. I do, however, believe it imperative that our kind garner a certain level of control and authority over themselves. We aren't chattel after all. We shouldn't be treated as such."

Phoenix has posed:
"Ms. Frost, if I may, you were a teenager yourself at one point, was what you're supposed to do or not do ever a guideline you followed?" Jean asks with a playful wink, not delving too deeply in the matter, it was a rhetorical question after all.

"I must warn you Ms. Frost, if you call me Jean, I'm going to have to call you Emma, it's only fair." At least she doesn't have the ego to demand others call her Vice Principal.

"You mentioned you have abilities," Jean taps at her temple, as if to show she's a little clued in even if nothing was offered directly, "there might be another opportunity for you, but we can talk about it another day, there's much to do for now...as far as I'm concerned, sign the contract and you're in."

Emma Frost has posed:
There's a light laugh from Emma. "I was a very backwards, bookish teenager, Ms. Grey. Though I'm not unfamiliar with what matter of trouble teens might get into." She, herself had made short work of the backwards and bookish when push came to shove. She didn't imagine youth had changed very much since she had been one herself, let alone such youth as were found within the walls of Xavier's School for the Gifted.

Of course there's the matter of names. So much what foot you put forth is how you shall continue about the matter, and while she was very much *Ms. Frost* in her life, this was also something of a chance to move past that in a new, and unique way. And given she would be working quite closely with these people, Emma makes a decision.

"I see. So that's how it shall be."

Her fingers unsteeple as the woman nods to herself. "Very well, then, Jean. Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Emma. I look forward to seeing what the future holds."

Wisely, she lets the matters of patents and abilities lie for future encounters.

"Now, then, these contracts?"

Phoenix has posed:
Jean looks a bit skeptical when after the pleasantries Emma goes about questioning the boiler plate teacher contract, "you didn't think the school could hire you without a contract, did you?" Jean asks, musing, "we do report everything, and you'll be getting a W-2. We are not a non-profit, you know."

Emma Frost has posed:
"Oh, I expected a contract." Emma allows her features to soften somewhat. "You'll have to forgive me. I work in a man's world. You learn certain mannerisms. Contracts are serious business. I treat them seriously. After all they bind and protect both of us. We'd be fools to merely jump in without attending without all due import."

Phoenix has posed:
"Then feel free to take it and have a gander, I'll be here if you need to discuss anything, you have my cell number," Jean notes, offering it freely to Emma with but a thought. "Looking forward to working with you, Emma."
