Cast of Characters: Shatterpoint, Wonder Woman

Shatterpoint has posed:
It has been a long time since Diana heard the name Jacob Caine. To be exact, it has been just a few months over fifty years.

The last she knew of him, he was fleeing. A traitor to all of existence, it took every bit of experience and wit to keep himself hidden- where he has remained for so very, very long.

A car arrives at the Embassy, nestling itself into the blue spot so close to the door. The door opens, and out steps a man whose body has been weathered by a vengeful and ungraceful aging process. It is a miracle that he is able to walk, even aided by a cane, and it is more impressive that he can manage to drive.

Despite being so close to the entrance, he still takes a veritable eternity to reach the front desk. When he does, there is an air of impatience that only someone truly aged can muster. His voice, when he speaks, is akin to rolling gravel, but it is from age rather than something more attractive in a man.

"I am here to see Diana Prince."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana's receptionist is a middle aged woman who is an honorary member of the Themysciran people. She'd signed up to be a worker here at the Embassy and is paid to do so... but after a vetting process, she was welcomed as a citizen of the 'paradise island' and gets to visit whenever possible.

But in the mean time, she works here at the front desk and when the aged man approaches from outside, she looks up and offers him a soft smile. "I'm sorry." She says. "Princess Diana is in a meeting at the moment, she shouldn't be too long though. If you'd have a seat, I'll see if she can't find time for you afterward?"

The seating area is just off of the receptionist desk and its essentially a very finely decorated living room with tall windows on the front wall allowing natural light to flow in from outside during the day.

The receptionist would then start to skim through Diana's schedule for the day. "It looks as though she may be free for thirty to fourty five minutes next?" She asks as she looks up at the man once more.

Shatterpoint has posed:
There is this sort of... Frown that crosses the face of the horribly elderly man. His displeasure is clear as day, written in the loose skin of his face. Through bottle-thick glasses, milky eyes stare at the receptionist as if somehow, Diana's schedule being full was somehow directly her fault.

"She will speak to -me.-" He states, paausing only for a moment as if the woman was supposed to know who he was, with that pretentious tone of voice that comes with aging poorly- and never having been too well-mannered to begin with.

"You tell her Jacob Caine is here. You tell her he says she's alive."

It's probably been at -least- twelve minutes since Dianaa received an ominous message from someone who apparently had a bone to pick. Sounds serious.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Since its the year 2026, the technology between Diana's office and the lobby out here is quite advanced. So the man is both being recorded from an unknown point and his words are being sent to the security system inside the Embassy... This, can be tagged and sent to Diana's office as a bit of a 'clip' for her laptop display.

And thats precisely what the receptionlist does. The clip of the odd-man is sent to the Princess in her meeting.

"Of course I'll tell her." The receptionist says back to the man, affording him a big smile so that he feels more comforted and 'heard'. She taps on her keyboard a few times and then turns back to him.

"The Princess is aware of the message, she should be out momentarily." She replies. Diana had gotten the message apparently...

Shatterpoint has posed:
Admittedly, the receptionist is good at her job- likely incredibly so, considering the amount of clout she'd have to have gathered to get honorary Themiscyran citizenship- or as close to it as the concept can be. Regardless, when she states that the message is delivered, the old man spends a moment disbelieving her, before he makes this sort of... Grumbling noise and steps aside.

He doesn't take a seat. His bones are so old that if he were to do such a thing, getting back up would be an interminable hassle, and would make him look weak in front of the Amazon. Not that he's ever been anything more than a smear on her shield if she really wanted it and he happened to at least be visible, but it's the intent and the image that counts.

Wonder Woman has posed:
It only takes about another three or so minutes before voices are heard, Diana is saying goodbye to whomever she was meeting with and they are leaving out a back entrance to the Embassy down the central hallway... out where there is a private parking area with a small garage for two cars.

A moment later and the telltale sound of women's shoes are clicking on the hardwood floors and within a second or so, Diana has arrived, standing in the lobby's entrance from her hallway.

Her blue eyes are on the man... the visitor, and she's staring at him flatly before she looks over to the receptionist and smiles at her. "Thank you, Margery."

Then the Amazon is walking into the area where the old man is, watching him closely. She's wearing a black dress that goes down to her knees and the sleeves down to her elbows, she has a gold necklace on and her black hair is tied back behind her head.

"Hello." She says to him in that Greek accented voice of hers, she's tall as ever at over 6 feet with those heeled shoes on.

Shatterpoint has posed:
The old dog takes a step or two forward. One of his legs doesn't seem to work right, of course- the left knee doesn't properly lock, and it doesn't support his weight.

His cane is old- probably around thirty or forty years such, gnarled and scratched, yet still in one piece. It clacks somewhat heavier than Diana's shoes do, but they don't have to carry the weight in the same way.

The first noise she gets is an acknowledging grunt. The silence following lingers until he's made his slow way toward her, that he's within a foot or so.

"Hello? It's fifty years, and I get a hello? I'm surprised you haven't hit me yet."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Of course after this introduction he's just given her, her eyes are going to her Receptionist who's right there watching and listening.

Diana's gaze averts back to the man after glancing down at the floor for a moment and then she shows him a restrained smile as she steps off to her right and his left. Her left hand comes up and she motions him toward the hallway. "Why not come with me to my office where we might have a chance to speak more privately so that we can determine what it is that I can do for you, Mister Cain?" Diana says to him then and there, clearly not interested in responding to why she hasn't hit him yet... As thats not really relevant toward helping either of them right now, plus, clearly time has defeated him in her stead.

Shatterpoint has posed:
There's another one of those low grunting noises as she gestures for him to follow. He does, but as his own pace. Diana, despite being older, is youthful and healthy. This old man had plenty of bad habits that should have killed him long ago, and his body is rapidly failing.

"So that's your plan. Make me walk to death."

The dull thud of his shoe followed by the clack of his cane follows her towards the office, and once they're out of earshot of the desk, he speaks- as if it's him that's been waiting, somehow, for something one doesn't even wait for.

"You know what I'm here about. Your desk girl shoulda told you. Have you heard the rumors? Your freak friends oughta have feelers out. The Bat alone has to know."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana dealt with difficult people fairly often, her charms and persona didn't work on everyone after all... especially if she had somehow wronged someone in the past.

When he starts to speak more freely, she's looking back at him whilst opening the two doors that lead into her office and then letting him have the freedom to walk inside them. She stares at him closely, but her expression is one of calming observation.

"I will be happy to send out any information that I feel needs to be sent to the proper individuals." Diana responds to the grumpy old man. Once they are inside the office, she motions to the seating area. "You can sit if you'd like, if you need a wheel chair to get back to the front we can have one brought in so that you do not have to walk any further. Would you like something to drink?" She asks, also motioning to the small kitchen area where there are drinks and a fridge built into the wooden shelves.

Shatterpoint has posed:
The idea of sitting down is starting to appeal to the old former detective. Grumpy, sure, but he is in the den of the 'enemy' as it were. By now, even someone as foolish and vain as he has forgotten old conflicts and allegiances.

"If you've got whiskey, I'll take that."

He starts to pace, as insane as that might sound. Slow as can be, but pacing nonetheless. "She's alive. You have to have heard. She's been running around in Gotham, right across the river. I've seen it, it can't be, but it is. Like she's not even been gone a day." He pauses then, turning to look at Diana in silence for a moment.

"And I haven't heard of you going over there to find out what it's all about."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana glances over at him as he makes his request and then she turns to the cabinets to get the drink. Alcoholic bevarages were in-supply but they're kept up above the rest. She reaches right for the whiskey bottle and pulls it down... they get a lot of donations here and this bottle was an expensive brand from a European country. Whiskey is poured for him, water for her and she turns around and walks toward him, offering the amber liquid in its glass.

"She?" Diana asks as she settles down into a sofa chair near to where he chose to put himself. She takes a sip from her glass. Its not that she doesn't know who he's talking about, its more about her wanting to hear him say the name. 'Her' name. That is important, for whatever reasons.

Shatterpoint has posed:
"Mh." the fool grunts, taking the glass without offering his thanks. He immediately takes this elongated sip from it, disapproving visibly, but at the same time, that... Old nasty vibe from him persists. He stops pacing, and seems... Almost admirably pensive for a while.

"You know who I'm talking about. Don't play games with me. I'm too old and I'm no good at them anymore." The next time he drinks, it's a little more aggressive- calming his nerves. He used to be harder to read than this. Looks like fifty years of looking over his shoulder has done that in. It's a longer pause before he speaks.

"It's... It's Caroline. It can't be Caroline but I've seen... Pictures, heard the way some people are talking, saw some sketches, too. What do you know? What have you heard? Where is she?"

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana's glass of ice water is set aside on a glass table beside her chair. She remains with her back straight and perfect posture while she watches the man pace ahead of her.

"Caroline." Diana repeats, and then dips her chin a little as she stares at him. "Ramsey." She adds. A second later and Diana's chin raises again and she glances away toward a near window. "I believe I saw her in a coffee shop on this very street back before Christmas, just a handful of months ago."

Her blue stare returns to the old man and she just watches him for now. "She seemed... distraught and thought I wished to have a chance to speak with her, I was preoccupied with another matter and by the time I got a chance to do just so... She had already left. Gone once again. I have heard nothing of her or from her, since." With a light inhale and exhale, Diana's head shakes side to side.

"Clearly she knows where to find me though, and has chosen not to do so."

Shatterpoint has posed:
At this point, with some sort of newfound vigor, the elderly traitor makes his way to Diana's desk. He -almost- reaches the pace of a normal person, and once he reaches the desk, he slams his glass down. It's probably the most strength he's managed in years, which to some degree is rather pathetic.

"You saw her and you didn't do anything? You know where she's been! You know where we left her!" The word 'we' has to be on one of the most intensely loose definitions of the word, considering the circumstances.

"Of course she's avoiding you! You have no idea why she's even here! What she's even doing! She could be a spy, some sorta... Monster wearing her -face- and you haven't done anything to figure that out?"

Bold accusations- especially for a man that sounds scared, rather than filled with conviction.

Wonder Woman has posed:
When the man slams his drink down onto her desk and shouts like that at her, thats when Diana rises up to her full height again and she comes to step around the furniture to stand directly aside him. She looks down at him since she's taller than the old man with a curving spine from age pulling him downward.

"I am a very busy person, Mister Cain." Diana says to the man. "I observed her and though she seemed uncomfortable, she did not seem to be in pain. She did not attack me, or anyone else and I have had no reports of her attacking anyone at-large either. Here or in Gotham."

Diana reaches down to pick up his whiskey glass and she takes it back. Apparently he's lost that privilege.
ile she walks to the sink on the shelves, she glances back over her shoulder. "Tell me where to find her and I'll go and speak with her."

Shatterpoint has posed:
There is a low growl, rumbling in the chest of the man like an engine forced to life after years of misuse and disrepair. It is there for a few moments before eventually it dies down, the older man slumping further into this hunched pose that shows his age. Fifty years ago, they'd have been the same height. Now, he's just a dying relic, a traitor nobody knows about. Fitting, reaally.

"Of course she was uncomfortable. This is just the kind of thing he'd send, just the kind of monster he'd make to tear us apart from the inside. She- It- is over in Gotham. You go there at night, you look on the rooftops and you'll find it."

After a pause, this horrid moment where he seems to be looking about the room at nothing, he speaks again. "Then when you do, will you, will you kill it? Put it to rest, do whatever you've gotta do?"

Wonder Woman has posed:
What was left of his whiskey was poured down the drain and Diana sets the glass down inside the sink then hears his response and his morbid request. The turns to face him then and puts her hands onto her hips. "I will go to Gotham, I will search the roof tops at night for unusual activity and I will confront her." She replies to him, not sounding annoyed, but patience-stretched-thin by the old man?

She shakes her head side to side then as she stares upon him. "I will kill nothing that does not deserve to die. If she makes no actions that warrant such reaction then it won't be the time for it. I am not a judge, jury and executioner... I am a defender of peace, justice and love. If I take slaughtering people into my own hands, then I am a hypocrit and do not deserve to be in any of the current positions that I am in."

Shatterpoint has posed:
With this small noise, the old man makes a move for the door- not to flee, but because the matter is mostly concluded. He continues grumbling as he reaches the door, and with his hand on the knob, he pauses to speak.

"I don't know what you defend, and it doesn't matter, because if this thing ain't Caroline, if Caroline's dead like she ought to be, then this thing... It's here to kill everyone, if somebody doesn't stop it."

Poignant, but all the same, hollow. Is he afraid that Caroline's return will herald Darkseid? Or is he merely afraid that despite the time it's taken, the past has caught up to him?
