Return to the Quiver
Date of Scene: 09 May 2018
Location: Starling
Synopsis: Oliver and Dinah return to HQ after months of Oliver being overseas, powering up the Quiver once again.
Cast of Characters: Green Arrow, Black Canary, Yin

Green Arrow has posed:
The Arrowcave, or as Green Arrow calls it, the Quiver. This large bunker located under the Queen Mansion was originally a nuclear fallout shelter built for the cold war. A bunker that has since been repurposed and remodeled in secret, into the secret headquarters of Green Arrow. There are multiple ramps hidden throughout the city into the Quiver, each of which lead to a vehicle platform that doubles an elevator into a hangar and vehicle storage.

The Quiver has been powered down for a good while now, with Oliver gone overseas to deal with Queen Consolidated matters with subsidiaries and the like... but tonight sees it powered up for the first time in months, and Green Arrow fully suited and in the gym and sparring room as he practices in the shooting range with his compound bow.

As one might guess, he hasn't missed yet, half a dozen arrows have been split right down the shaft below his chosen bullseye.

Black Canary has posed:
The roar of Canary's classic and souped-up Harley is audible as she goes down one of the secret ramps. She has a passenger, Yin, who is blindfolded. "Sorry, Yin. But I wanted you to meet Green Arrow, and he would have to meet you before the location of the Quiver is revealed to you." She stops by the vehicle elevator, guides her friend down towards the base, and once no sign of where they came from is visible, removes the blindfold. "Yin - welcome to the Quiver." She escorts her friend further down.

Yin has posed:
Yin clings to the back of the bike. She has a costume on. It's the Yin costume, version 3.0 - a black body suit with a full mask over a black jacket. Over her right eye is a white, matte patch like a curved teardrop making a yang symbol that curves down by her jaw. There's a matte white circular patch in the center of her chest. The rest of the costume is black, with reddish-brown trim on the sleeves and fastenings. Her boots are black wrappings with soft soles.

She nods, "Of course. I would do the same." In costume, she plays up a bit of a Chinese accent. When the blindfold is removed, she looks around with her eyes, taking a deep breath and centering herself before following softly with no wasted effort.

Green Arrow has posed:
Hearing the ping for incoming traffic in the gym, Green Arrow steps out into the main chamber, his compound bow gripped firmly in one hand as he steps out. Green hood and green domino mask hide identity as surely as the voice mask gripped onto his ear, "Welcome to the Quiver. Black Canary vouches for you, so you get to see it." He notes, the distortion -and the handsome squared jaw- making it clear he's a man, at least. The green suit isn't skin tight, but it's clear he has quite a bit of musculature under it as he walk over to Yin.

A glance and a nod is given to Dinah, before his left, free, hand is offered to Yin in a friendly gesture. "I'm Green Arrow. You might have heard of me." He quips.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary smiles as she gazes between Yin and Arrow. "This is where we train between missions. Where I kept up my physical shape when I took a break from crimefighting. I needed time to clear my head. He even had a special room built in that I can test my Canary Cry in without breaking something important - like the roof over our heads." She walks around. "There's a small arsenal in here but most weapons tend to be bows." She smirks. "No crossbows though - he had a... thing... about them."

Yin has posed:
Yin nods. "A pleasure. I am Yin." She takes the hand softly and shakes it, femininely, then looks around the space. "You're very accurate. I approve. I've used a bow a bit, but it was never really a focus of mine."

She nods. "That's understandable. You've seen my studio. I don't do much with weapons; they're big and hard to carry through customs. Hmm.. I assume you have a bit more of a budget than I have.."

Green Arrow has posed:
"I do crossbows too. They just aren't my preference. Arrowheads are much easier to attach on the fly." Green Arrow observes, before he turns around and heads for the gym room again, "My quiver builds my arrows on the fly, so I don't need to worry about how many of a specific kind of head to bring with me; they stay in storage until the quiver builds them for me." Once at the entryway to the gym, Green Arrow gives a 'come here' gesture to the two of them, "This is where we keep the magic going."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary smiles as she walks towarsd the gym. "I was hoping to have some fun in here... the punching dummies are top of the line." She smiles faintly. "Or we can both see what you're capable of, Yin." She glances at Arrow. "I think she'd make a great addition to our team. Yes, I just met her, but I saw her skills."

Yin has posed:
Yin follows after, silently checking the place out. She lacks the technical background to understand most of what she is seeing, however; it's training floors and any indication of training methods her eyes are seeking out. Offhandedly, she comments "I wish I had a vehicle, but I don't have anyplace to PARK it. I spend way too much time walking."

She mmms, nodding. "The ones you liked weren't as visible as some things, but what would you like to see?" She sinks onto her heels and relaxes a bit, putting her hands together quietly.

Green Arrow has posed:
"My skybike handles my transportation needs." Green Arrow notes as he steps into the gym. "If you want a parking spot here, you'll need to earn it... but if Black Canary vouches for you. We'll see how that goes."

Inside is a training ring, a bunch of training and punching dummies, and a shooting range. One of said ranged bulleyes still has an arrow planted it it, perfectly center, "I bring other weapons down here sometimes... but bows have always been my favorite."

Once a bit further in, Green Arrow turns to regard Yin, that compound bow put on a table next to him as he speaks, "Assuming you bring something other then fists to this team, you're welcome to store something in the armory, too." Green Arrow smirks. "Black Canary can show you around."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary smiles. "I don't use the offer - I prefer unarmed combat. Besides - my most powerful weapon is right here," she states, tapping her throat. "But most of the time punches are all I need - I keep a bo-staff in my bike in case I need. Unlike some, mine can't fly."

Yin has posed:
Yin nods. "I mostly just use my body. Like I said, weapons are hard to carry, and I don't like how they escalate things for me. Sometimes it's nice to talk people down." She looks over the training equipment, then does the 'opening' movement of a taiji form, looking at one a bit and measuring it up.

Green Arrow has posed:
"In my experience, most gangbangers out there underestimate people like us. They think that because they have a gun means they can just shoot us." Green Arrow takes up the bow again, and walks over the firing range. There's a quiver of standard wooden arrows there; nothing at all like his usual modern ammunition. "You might have different experiences in specific parts of the city. Me? I don't take the chance. I take them down quickly and efficiently-" An arrow is grabbed, drawn, and fired within a second... with perfect accuracy to the bullseyes again. The sound of wood being split down the middle and broken in half can be heard as the new arrow replaces the old.

"It helps I tend to be up in the sky when I do it, so they don't see me coming." A handsome smirk comes to Green Arrows mouth as he gives a glance to Dinah, "Skybikes are useful for /something/ after all."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary snorts. "Yes - but a flying motorcycle is still preposturous. One day it's going to fail and you're going to fall out of the sky and go splat. And not just anyone can afford such marvels." She grins as she picks up a spare bow. "I sometimes practice my archery. I find it relaxing." She fires an arrow at a differnet target and it almost bullseyes, off by an inch.

Yin has posed:
Yin nods. "Yeah. Still not my favorite thing. I can't shoot well enough to do less harm." She frowns a bit at the bows, picks one up and shoots at a target gracefully. She is.. competent, but no master. "Closing has been an issue, and I don't know how to solve it yet."

Green Arrow has posed:
There's an amused snort, "Why do you think I carry parachute arrows?" Green Arrow quips, before he pulls another arrow... shooting at the same target. Once again, perfectly splitting the shaft.

"Flying cars are the wave of the future. Haven't you ever seen back to the future?" Green Arrow continues prodding Black Canary verbally.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary shoots another arrow at her target and it lans next to the other one, an inch off hte bullseye on the other side. "Yeah... but Back to the Future was a stupid movie," she notes, nudging Arrow in the side. "And you've never taken me on a ride on this skybike of yours yet." She shrugs at Yin. "What do you mean, clothing is an issue?"

Yin has posed:
Yin ohs. "Closing. Getting close to people. I am sneaky, but sometimes they're not in a good place to sneak up on. I wish I knew some sort of quick step or something." She shrugs. No comment on the sky bike, she doesn't really know how to take care of that. "Maybe there's a long lunging gung I can study..."

Green Arrow has posed:
"I can give you advice on that, though most of my techniques are based on my build." Green Arrow gives Yin a look over, appraisingly. "I'll have to do a bit of improvisation with you, but nothing major. It's mostly in the footwork." Green Arrow continues, before he launches another practice arrow.

Once again, a perfect split.

"If you think Back to the future was a stupid movie, I fear for your taste in movies. That was a classic." Green Arrow laments, another arrow launched downrange.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary snorts. "That. Was not a classic. Gone With the Wind is a classic. It's a shame - most of the best movies are only in black and white..." she notes. "It's bad writing and a dorky scientist. If I wanted believlable technobabble I'd go up to Mackenzie Station."

Yin has posed:
Yin nods. Maybe a smile, but you can't really tell through her mask. "Of course. There are a few baguazhang techniques I have been using, but they don't have the reach I would like by themselves. The fencing lunge works a bit better for that, but still. It's a bit hard and scuffy." She ignores the cross talk about movies, since she's neutral on the subject.

Green Arrow has posed:
"It's /never/ about being believable, Canary." Green Arrow observes in a thoroughly mocking patronizing fashion, "that's what documentaries are for. A good movie /entertains/ you, while still being believable enough to suspend it's incredulity." Green Arrow shakes his head, before he heads over to the armory, replacing the practice compound bow there and grabbing his main, customized, bow. "I'm going to go on patrol. I haven't made my presence felt in Starling for far too long." Green Arrow gives a nod to the two, before he heads for his Skybike.

Hopping on, Green Arrow heads out into the city.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary nods. "Good hunting, Green Arrow. If you hear a canary sing, do investigate," she cooos, winking. She blinks. "So... that's Green Arrow," she muses. "What do you think, Yin?"

Yin has posed:
Yin tilts her head. "Trained. Blended arts, maybe a military mixture? He seems nice. Lots of funds. He's much better equipped with tricks than I am. It's hard to tell too much about who he really is deep down from that so far.." She contemplates a bit. "I'm sure you have seen a lot more than I have, so I have to defer to your judgement."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary smiles. "He's a bit of an ass but he's a good man. We can stay and practice some - or I can take you back home. I'll have to blidnfold you again for a while when we go to leave. Sorry." She smiles wryly.

Yin has posed:
Yin nods. "Either way. I don't think we've had much chance to practice together so far? If you had something in mind, that is. I'm not familiar with some of the equipment here." She gestures around a bit. "The masters I trained with had much lower budgets. Lots of wooden dummies, improvised bags, troughs, bowls, baskets."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary smiles. "There's dummies here. They just are more expensive." She sets them up and gestures. "Let's start," she states as she starts to punch and kick one of them.

Yin has posed:
Yin nods. She goes to one and considers it, then runs through a few steps of a form, drilling with a number of soft, flowing and graceful strikes and parries, circling with soft stepping footwork. Then she comes out of a movement into a very deep stance, driving into it in one coordinated movement with one hand under her forearm, and SLAMS into the dummy hard enough to make it swing backward hard with a push, part of it lightly 'paff'ing against the floor. "They have give, good."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary nods. "If you can't tell, Arrow has some money. He prefers training dummies that simulate striking people..." She clicks her tongue. "It takes some getting used to, but if you like, we can spar and get a feel for each other. We seem a decent match for each other - and other than the Canary Cry, I'm a normal human... well... loud noises don't bother me."

Yin has posed:
Yin shrugs some. "If you like, sure. I haven't seen you move all that much yet. I know I can get a little bit hard on the walls if I push myself." She settles, taking a slow breath and stepping out a bit into the clear. "And bruises don't worry me much."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary smiles. "Let's do some sparring," she states, cracking her knuckles as she shifts into a combat stance. She smiles faintly, gesturing for you to come at her. "Let's rock and roll."

Yin has posed:
Yin bows her head faintly. "Okay." She looks up at you, deeply relaxed, and sizes up your stance briefly. Taekwondo base stance, interesting choice. Skip mobility, mostly forward, high.

She starts forward, then suddenly zags along around you, immediately twisting her hips to align along the side of where you were standing. Her lead foot moves to put her foot down behind yours as her arms unfurl in a gentle seeming movement with one hand aimed at the side of your knee and the other at the side of your guard. First control and limit the movement.. though on somebody less trained, this would certainly unbalance and lead naturally into a few throws.
