Sparring in the Quiver
Date of Scene: 22 May 2018
Location: The Bunker, Starling
Synopsis: Oliver and Dinah spar, and discuss possibilities.
Cast of Characters: Green Arrow, Black Canary

Green Arrow has posed:
Green Arrows suit is a complex matrix of engineering design. With various hardened and soft materials, it strikes a customized balance of protection and agility.

What it doesn't do... is help keep ones pain tolerance high when they can't feel the hits. Out in the field, the suit is a good thing. In sparring? Oliver prefers a gym suit, or to go shirtless. The suit is a necessary crutch in the field, but he'd go soft if he used it during sparring sessions.

It's one of Dinah and Olivers schedule training sessions, and Oliver comes down the elevator from the Queen Mansion in his gym shorts and nothing else, taking a look sip of an iced water bottle as he steps out into the Bunker. The scars from his time on the island, and his heavy musculature are on display as he starts to head over.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary has her own set of scars. She was already down at the Quiver, loosening up on a training dummy. Her own suit has some armor in it as well - she has a more custom set of full-body armor from her days with Team 7 that she kept. But for a sparring session, she's dressed light with her own gym shorts and a sports bra. She hears the elevator in motion and moves towards the sparring mat, standing there. She waves to Ollie as he emerges. "You're late," she notes.

Green Arrow has posed:
"I had a call from the board that couldn't wait. So sorry to keep my revenue stream in tip top as much as my body." Oliver smirks with an amused tone as he replaces the bottle, before he starts to head into the gym section, heading for one of the instrument tables and giving it a glance over, "unarmed tonight, or did you want to do some escrima?" He inquires casually.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary smiles. "True, the heavy burdens of being a billionaire. Well, at least you didn't mention an archery contest," she states. "I do prefer unarmed - but I could use more escrima practice. But this is your mancave, so your choice." She stretches as she loosens up a bit more, getting ready for whatever.

Green Arrow has posed:
"Mancave? Really? Does this-" A hand gestures over the entire Quiver, in broad strokes, "-look like I keep it to myself?" Oliver shakes his head, before he takes a two escrima sticks from the table, "My last escrima session was a few weeks ago. This seems as good a time as any." Oliver notes as he gets onto the practice matt, then adjusts his stance; he's looking fairly balanced, with no obvious openings.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary nods as she assumes a more aggressive stance. "How lucky that I just got some 'practice' in yesterday over on Hamilton street in the Glades," she states. "That drugrunning operation?" She winks. "I'm trying to challenge myself to not use my Cry unless I must. It takes all the fun out of things." And the moment she finishes talking she lunges towards you on the attack.

Green Arrow has posed:
When Dinah lunges in, Oliver moves aside in a swiping parry, redirecting the momentum briefly to resume position to the side, "Even with the storage pods in my skybike, I only have so many arrows. If I know I'm in for an extended fight, I make sure to use my staff as much as possible." As he speaks, his right stick is brought around and down as he attempts a leg sweep.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary jumps over it and tries an overhead assault. "Yeah... that is the limitation of the archer. I've also seen you beat people senseless with the bow if you can't get to the staff..." she states. "Beside - why haven't you got me a skybike?" she asks, continuing her assault. "And... do you take it to the DMV or the FAA?" She smirks at the joke.

Green Arrow has posed:
"My latest bow transitions into a staff, actually." The sticks are brought up into a solid block for each attack Dinah presses. Looks like Oliver is mainly trying to conserve energy, with the effort he's putting into it.

"Why do I take it anywhere? I'm a vigilante. Do you think Batman registers /his/ Batmobile?" Oliver asks, incredulously, as he ducks down and around, trying to get a shot to the side of her torso when she swings next.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary was a bit surprised by that and you got a score, yelping as you get a strike on her side. "Ow." She shakes her head. "You have longer arms and a better reach - but I should be faster," she states as she shifts to a more defensive posture, waiting for your attacks, studying your patterns.

Green Arrow has posed:
Instead of coming at Dinah, Oliver moves into a more neutral stance a few feet away, "I keep in peak physical condition, and far as I'm aware, your 'awakening' didn't give you superhuman reflexes." Oliver notes as he starts to walk around her, "and I don't have the luxury of having my voice as a weapon, so I need to find my edge somewhere else."

Oliver smiles as he goes to where her back would be if she stayed in place, and goes for the back of the knees... before revealing that to be a feint, going for her right side arm. "Would you prefer to use your staff?"

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary smiles. "I do as well. I spent time with a paramilitary group known as Team 7, remember?" she asks. She smiles. "Other than my voice - and my eardrums... I'm normal." She smiles. "I like to think that I keep myself at the peak as well... but you'll always have the advantage. Men are simply stronger than women. It's basic biology." She smiles, keeping aware of your presence as you walk behind her, then as you swing, she jumps forward and barely manages to block the stick. "Clever tactic," she states. "Anyway - wanna call it here? I'd rather not get a bruise by a good guy - and maybe we can try to get to know each other better outside the vigilanteism. Perhaps I can take you to dinner?"

Green Arrow has posed:
Once Dinah calls for a stop, the sticks are placed in his right hand, and then onto the table again. After a few seconds, Oliver gives a look to Dinah; a raised brow is given in response to the invitation, before he crosses his arms. "It'd ruin my playboy image to settle down, you know... but I'm open to a dinner."

Oliver takes a long sip of his water bottle, before he purses his lips in thought. "I'll admit, I didn't think you had an interest in me."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary snorts. "Oliver, you have to be kidding. You are the most eligible bachelor in Starling. I bet if you put out a personal ad, your phone would NEVER stop ringing." She smiles faintly. "Of course I have an interest in you. At the moment professional - for we fight well together. Though I have often wondered..." She trails off. "Like most of the female population of the city," she mutters, then clears her throat. "If we could be something more." She ponders. "A dinner. And see where it goes from there. I have left some clothes down here - including a suitable dress..."

Green Arrow has posed:
He tilts his head in amusement as Dinah goes on, "I didn't know you had such strong feelings on the subject." Oliver teases, "Oh sure, the number of women interested in becoming Ms. Queen is up there. Most of them don't really stick around after they learn how much time my work demands of me." Oliver notes, before he nods softly, a few times, "Let's make it in a few nights. We can see where it goes. Tonight, I have a prior appointment to handle after we're done here." He starts for the elevator up, "raincheck, I promise."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary nods. "Yes. But I, on the other hand, know where you spend your nights. The streets. It's where I spend mine. I think - it's a possibility worth exploring." She smiles as she takes a drink of water, watching you as you leave. She sits down, wiping her brow, and wonders if she made the best decision of her life... or the worst.
